Howdy y'all! Cowboy [C):-)]

I don't know how much I'll be posting here within the next few days...

Tomorrow morning I go into Baltimore for my Norfolk Southern orientation at the yard, bright and early at 8:00am. Later that day, the family is going out to dinner as a congradulatory means of wishing me the best for my career.

Saturday morning, I am going to leave bright and early, drop in on my girlfriend so we can say our goodbyes, and then hit the road for Georgia. Y'all don't have to worry, the trip is split between Saturday and Sunday. Since I'm leaving early Saturday, I can take my time and still arrive in Georgia mid-afternoon on Sunday. There's no way I would make that trip straight through. As much as I love driving, even I need a break! :swg:

So if I don't get the chance to post again before I leave...Y'all are great, and I don't think I've ever met a group as encouraging as everyone here! I'll miss you all! Bow [bow]

refill please & thank you.

***Steve, glad it wasn't worse for you. Just one favor to ask, PLEASE send whatever is left of it up to North Georgia...we're desperate for any water. Heck, I'll take a tornado or two as long as there is rain with them. Hope your power returns quickly.

Still trying to figure out how to buy a big ol' Kato diesel without getting caught.Wink [;)]

Good afternoon, all!

Humberto made its way over Beaumont early this morning.  There was lots of rain and 80-90 mph winds, but no real serious damage to the area.  My home is without power but the office is ok.

My pool is full to the brim.  With an underground pool that really doesn't make much difference.  I'll drain it when the power comes back on.  No air conditioning in the house, but my girlfriend has a guest room and power and air conditioning.  I think I'll camp there tonight.

This link is to some video shot a couple miles from my home by our local television station about 4:00 am this morning:   http://www.kfdm.com/video/index.php?bcpid=1138292619&bclid=1155100354&bctid=1184738748.

All things considered, it could have been a lot worse.  This storm literally was a tgropical depression until last night.   When I went to bed at 11, it had worsened to a tropical depression but was supposed to miss us to the west.  My girlfriend called at about 3:00 am and told me her son in law had called and that it was now a hurricane.  The eye passed just south of Beaumont.

We really were lucky.  If the storm had stayed in the Gulf a couple more days it would probably have strengthened significantly and that would not have been good!

Now if I can just get my power back....

Thank for all your concern!

Steve

Afternoon folks!

Hey Steve, nice to see you back and around again!

Jeff - you might need a weed eater soon to keep up with all the grass sprouting up on your layout! Great work there! Good luck with the storm!

Ed - Hasta mañana!

Jim - hope you get to feeling better soon! Have some hot green tea with honey and fresh lemon, it works wonders!

Mike - yes the cool front is headed our way, Sunday low is supposed to be in the upper 50's

Sue the mater paste will make the salsa thicker, and cooking it down too will do that!

Trent - welcome back!

Phil - Chicken tacos looking good!

For those who requested it I emailed my salsa recipe, check your Inbox!

Cheers,

A large ATSF mug full of, Please & Thank You!

***Jeffrey, nice old building there. I wouldn't touch that sign either....it's perfect.

Regarding pools overflowing from storms: Some extra leaf/trash vacuuming/cleaning of pool & filters, backwashing out the extra water, and then gradually re-establishing the proper chemical balance. No problem, just time. (Coach, lifguard, etc...in a former lifetime)

Looked at H2O holding tanks yesterday and having them delivered. Will measure for new leafless gutters today for every large roof on the farm. Hope to have this all set up in a week or two. Still need to look into what kind of pump to transfer water from a tank into the household line(for toilets & washing machine). Anyone here ever do this before?

Have a great day all. Time to go work anywhere the MIL isn't. Banged Head [banghead]

Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, just a go cup, mocha coffee, please. Thanks to Jeff on that. Hope your folks' pool drains quickly enough. I'm not up on pools - tell me later (after Humberto leaves your area) what happens if an in-ground pool overflows.

Trent, have they been keeping you busy at the store there? Good to hear you're still around. Yeah!! [yeah] I'll e you tonight when I get home.

Time to get me back to w**k again. Beautiful weather here today - might be getting some wet weather to the south of us (Arkansas and the Missouri bootheel, also Memphis area) tonight or tomorrow, but our weatherguessers are saying Humberto won't make it up this far. That'll be good for the district fair here. The past couple years, they've got some rain during the fair (and last Saturday was also wet there), but yesterday and today it was perfect 'fair' weather... Wink [;)]

I'm out of here for now!

Good Morning Coffee Clubbers,

Hope Steve (BaylorMax) and Teffy make out okay, as it looks to me as if Humberto is going in right over Beaumont.  I half way suspect that's why Steve hasn't posted yet this morning.  He's usually an early riser.

Dick:  How wide is the river where the Ferry is located? What is the depth of the river at that spot?
Just guessing, but I'd say it was about 250 yards (+/-) across.  Depth?  Maybe 30 feet at the middle, but again, just guessing.  Too deep and wide to drive, that's for sure.

You also have more action in the Carib....not far from the ABC islands, so it looks like a similar path as previous storms.
I'm preduicting this to turn north and come towards Florida and the east coast.  Obviously we'll stay tuned.

Fergie - good to see you back in here.

Catch you guys (and girls) later.  Right now I need to relax with my first cup of hot coffee.

Good morning.  Coffee please.

I am moving earlier than I usually do on  a non-work day.  I need to get 4 fence posts done before it gets too hot today.  I am running out of nice weather, and need to get the fence repair done before I get my next batch of calves.

Ryan,  Salsa is a food group at our house, so canning saves on the grocery bill.  I used canning paste tomatos this year and the salsa came out thicker.

Jeffrey,  Cleaning up the layout has sure given us a better perspective.Thumbs Up [tup] Larry & I tend to use the layout as a work bench so from time to time a thorough clean up is required.  Thanks for tip with the vaccuum.

Later,

Sue

Morning all!

Jeff, you sure are showing off some good stuff lately!  Those trees really bring the layout to life.

Ed, sorry the trip to the grove was a bust.

Well, it's looking like another nice day around here.  Glad that heat from last month is gone!

Today should turn out to be the best day of the week with plenty of sunshine and highs climbing to near 80 degrees this afternoon. A cold front will move through on Friday bringing the threat for a few spotty showers.

Mornin, farmers special n coffee Zoe

Cool here this morning 51, forecast high in the upper 70's, n sunny. Yesterday was cold with a low of 47, high of 70, and a chilly north wind here in the woods. Saturday is suppose to be the coolest day this week, low round 41, high in the 60's.

Been busy with kids and not feelin the best this week so haven't been in but for a ta-go-cup. This is kind of a quickie catch up today.

DICK,, haven't got the pellet stove going yet, but the furnace is and it kicked on yesterday. I hadn't gotten all the summers dust collection cleaned out of it or the ducts yet, so it smelled good for a bit in here.

STEVE,,, congrads on the up coming move way south, and hope things work out down there. Sure looks like purrty country from the pics I've seen.

JERRY, good to hear Sally's doing ok and tell her happy birthday for us, hope she gets home some. Rockome Gardens train show is the 21'st n 22'nd this month, don't know for sure if we're going or not.

SCOTT,, you be careful on your road trip ya hears and don't crowed the travel time to much.

Family up-date, still on baby watch, if Missy don't go today, she'll be 2 weeks late. Doc's suppose to induce her tomorrow if she don't go on her own.

#3 daughter n her bunch bought a house in Girard, 50 mile south of Springfield, so they're moving. So a different area to rail fan now, UP/Amtrak and BNSF meet there. I still haven't caught up with the pics I've got already.

That's bout all that's new here. Need ta get moven, Leroy will be here in a bit to catch the bus later and when he's gone, I'll have no kids and plenty chores to do today. Thoughts for those in need and hope ya'll has a gooden

Good evening, just getting to the Diner for the 1st time today, the weather has been so infigurating that I have been doing multiple projects. I added a gusset to the swing gate in the train room, and painted the surfaces of all the foam on top of each table....pink foam top just doesn't hack it for me. And, and area that doesn't get covered with landscape, grass, trees, etc, will look like earth as opposed to PINK ? It applied real easy with a roller, and being latex, the cleanup was easy. I had a floor fan on high speed due to the fact that this room has no windows and only one doorway.

Tomorrow I plan to add storage shelves under some of the 30" wide tables. The 48" wide tables will not have any shelving underneith, as I need the ability to crawl under these wider tables to get to 16" wide lift-outs.

JIM: Sorry to hear you are not feeling 100%. Take a steaming hot shower to help the sinuses, which should also help your ears, and then take a 6 Oz glass of Ginger Brandy.

ED: How wide is the river where the Ferry is located? What is the depth of the river at that spot? You also have more action in the Carib....not far from the ABC islands, so it looks like a similar path as previous storms.

JEFF: Clever idea for vacuuming Jeff!!! I have a small portable vacuum that my son got me for Christmas a few years ago for small jobs, it is easy to carry with one hand. It doesn't have a lot of power, but I was thinking it would be ideal for MRR cleanup.

STEVE: Glad you mad your decision, I think you will find the climate very nice in New Zealand. You will have another chore also, being down under, you will have to close the Diner at night and shut off the coffee pot...LOL

Time to hit the sack, too tired to type and eyes are closing, see you guys for breakfast,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Evening, Chloe - hot fudge sundae and a cup of decaf, please. Thanks!

My body's been out of sorts a good chunk of the day. Dead [xx(] I've had a medium earache off and on, after starting the day groggy and ready to put my head on my desk for a nap. I took on antihistamine, but I can't take any with multiple ingredients or I usually get that effect. I had two appointments for the whole day (2 & 3 p.m.), it turned out - but both called in and rescheduled. I had trouble keeping focused enough to get some assessments written. Did get a few chart discharges done, though. But by heading home time, the earache started up - one of those 'stick your little finger in you ear and just rotate it in hopes of loosening something up and make it go away...' I took a naproxen in the afternoon; only marginally helping. Hope everyone else's day has been better.

Steve, best wishes on the move 'Down Under' to NZ, the packing, selling the house, finding Nicky a good job, etc. Thumbs Up [tup]

Jeff, I'm curious like Paul - how do you re-gather the grass and stuff (or do you re-use it)?

I'm going to finish up this sundae and then go head for bedtime. Need to get rested up; I'm on-call tomorrow night, and I sure don't want this earache to go along with me.

Take care of yourselves tonight (and tomorrow). I'll see you all later.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

I put the foot of an old panty hose leg inside the tube of my shop-vac and folded the cut end over the end of the tube and secured it in place with duct tape. When I vacuum the layout, the loose ballast and 'grass' gets caught in the nylon.
