Jeff,  Street Racing?

Oh yeah! I'm a street racer from way back. In the early 80's I was using a 68 Dodge Coronet R/T with 426 hemi, high rise cross ram intake, turbo charger and 2 4 barrel Holley's linked to an automatic 4-speed with overtake (not overdrive) and a split shift rear end. I'm not racing anymore, I'm just the safety tech for the team.

Morning all.
I don't have much to say... I still am waiting for the 2-8-0. Maybe we could all take bets for when it arrives and whoever wins decides who gets the bill for the next page, or the current one if it was just started.
Well I guess I can say this- I built a trebuchet out of rokenbok. It fires all of 10-15', which is pretty good for something thats slighty over 3' tall.
I think I'll go trick my mom with the "It snowed" thing... Thanks Sue!

Good morning, and an April Fool's to everyone.  The best joke ever is to wake up and say, "It snowed!", before your spouse can wake up.  It gets them every time.

I'll have one of Bill's donuts with my coffee this morning.

Jeff,  Street Racing?

Dick,  Sounds like you are a regular lumberjack.  It feels great when they fall exactly right.

Inch,  Do the grandkids get to help in the train room?  That would be a great chance to mentor them in the world of trains.

Philip,  Sounds like you are getting around even if you are stiff. I hope that the recovery time is short.  Does this mean that you should sit around and work on the layout today?

The sun is out here, so I probably should haul some of the firewood that we have cut down in the trees.  I am not very motivated, but I will probably do some.  I will wait until it warms up a little (freezing here this morning), so back to my hill side.

Sue

Hey all!

How goes it this morning?  Me?  I'm good.

 gear-jammer wrote:

Philip,  A dislocated anything is bad.  How long do you have to stay off of it?

The leg is much better!  I can walk with only a minimum hitch to my get-along today.  Yesterday I looked like something out of an old horror movie when I walked.  Picture Egor saying "Yes Master' as he drags his lame foot along.  That was me. Ha, ha!  Much better today though.  I didn't go to a doctor or anything.  I figured I'd be fine without all of that, so I'll just take it a bit easier for a while.  I don't go to the doc for myself very much.  The last time I went they had to look up my "latest" records on microfilm!  I hadn't been in a while I guess.  Anyways, thanks for all the prayers and support everyone.

So, I'm going to chill out here at the house this morning and then later grab one of my coworkers (a telephone tech) and drop by my parents place this afternoon to fix a bad phone line.  I figure, I work at the phone company, the least I can do is fix their bad line.  I'll flip a 20 spot to my friend and everyone will be cool.

Bought some grass seed yesterday and got that out.  I looked pathetic trying to put it out as I gimped along, but I wanted to get it out because I knew it was going to rain off and on for the next week, so it'd get a chance to grow real good.  It's a good thing I did it yesterday too.  It rained lightly last night and the sun is out this morning.  you just couldn't ask for much better!

So what's today got for you guys?

Morning, I'll have a farmers special, OJ, n coffee Janie

Looks like we're going to have some sun for awhile today, still got a chance for a shower this evening. No big storms through here last night, all we got was a lot of rain. All warning and that was NW of us.

JIM CG, I don't have to worry bout getting into Mother's flower beds, cause I'm the one who does all the gardening here. The boys are wanting to add another 12'x20' on to the train room, but that's not going to happen till some of the CFO's wants are done first.

I'm hoping to see of those KCS hoppers out back this summer so I can get a pic of them.

GARRY, hope all the test go well and ya get some good scores at the LHS

JP, that new camera does a  purrty good job it looks like. I the beer trucks too.

PC, hope that knee fellin better today and take care of it. I know dislocations can hurt for a long time, if you don't.

DICK,, glad you got the frig ta working right, hope it last.

I don't know of any place selling block ice anymore, at least round here. It would be high priced if there was, going by crushed ice prices.

Got grandkids be here some time later, so no big plans for the day. Need to do some cleaning in the train room, maybe during the race this afternoon. Best gets round, Janie can I get a couple Bills doughnuts and an Irish coffee ta-go, kinda cool out now, think I'm gonna light stove for abit. Hope ya'll has a gooden

I haven't had the amount of time to work on the layout lately that I would like to have. I've been working with one of the local street racing teams checking out some cars as potential racers.

Good evening everyone...a very busy day today. The only RR stuff I managed to do is to read another 3 chapters of a really good book called White Cascade, the story of the GN RR trains that were swept off the Cascade route by a tremendous avalanche, killing over 100 people, in 1910. This is a great book, the author does a GREAT job, and I highly recommend this book, you will not be able to put it down.

This morning, son #3 on the other side of the hill, needed help to down 8 large oak trees, especially on big boy that was over 75 feet tall and had a girth of 2 feet. This tree would reach the house if it fell the wrong way. It fell exactly where I wanted it to go with the help of my trusty steel wedge. It is very important to cut the notch no deeper than 1/3 of the way through the tree in the direction that you want the tree to fall. Then, the back cut needs to be two inches above this cut, and straight...no downward or slanted cuts. When the cut is beyond the depth of the wedge, I hammer the wedge into the cut with a splitting maul. Unless you have a terrible leaner, the tree drops right where you want it.

The refrig is repaired, I didn't have to involve the repair tech, cancelled that call for Monday, as the frig was down to 38F this morning, and held temp all day. It appears that either defrosting the evaporator coils, or, removing and cleaning the temp sensor on the evaporator, did the trick...at least I hope so.

DER JOHN: OK, what is the temperature of "cellar" beer in Britain? Any beer over 50F (10C) is "pee". Come on, don't tell me that after a hot summer day cutting your lawn, or bustin your butt and dripping with sweat, that a nice beer from the frig at 38F (4C) doesn't taste great as compared to "pee" at over 10C!!! hehehehehehehehehehehe LOL How did the show go today? Did Kris do better with shoes then you did at the show? Did LUC and Fergie make it there?

JEFF: Your paint jobs really come out good, please show your work on the new locos when there're finished. What do you use for your spraying for equipment? I need to invest in a sprayer and I have NO IDEA what is good, bad, ugly on the market.

MIKE: There are times that I wish I still had an ice box, but then again, they would probably charge us more for ice now than gas or electricity.

JP: Nice job with your new camera, the pics are quite clear. I see you made a Home Depot run also ( pink foam ).....I think Lowe's carries the Blue foam.

Bed time, see you guys in the morning

I guess it is my turn to buy a round.Dinner [dinner] I will serve some of my homemade huckleberry cheesecake.

Philip,  A dislocated anything is bad.  How long do you have to stay off of it?

der,  I know that it is late, but that highway looks great.  Things are really moving for you.

I worked on the layout for about an hour this morning.

Larry got one of the MDC Shays regeared.  Of course, no instructions come with the kits.  Banged Head [banghead] Last night he was having trouble working through the kit.  The combination of adult beverage and tiny parts interfered with progress.

After working out, I went  to help Larry load for California.  It is about 70 miles south of here.  We went bowling down there.  Maybe I will get something done tomorrow.

Oh, yeah, I ordered a Bachmann 3-truck Shay for a belated birthday present.  I wish it were here yesterday.

Goodnight,  Sue

Been off the web this afternoon.  Decided to get laid up with a dislocated knee.  You know how your knee allows your leg to bend in one direction?  Mine went the opposite direction!  Guess what!   THAT HURTS!!!!!!!!!!!!  So now I'm laid up.

Evening Gang: Well yesterday went well. I felt pretty good and got some stuff accomplished. Today was another mater. We went to breakfast and then chased around paying the feed store and going buy the bank and the vets supply. Buy the time I got home I was all in. I went to bed about 1pm and slept untill 4. We went into  town for supper and then to Kohls to get Mary Ann some new cook ware for her new stove. After that we came home And I just sat. I did get up and took Dasiy out for her walk and did alittle grass cutting. The place is overgrown again in just a week. We got about 6 inches of rain yesterday. The pond is full to overflowing and the feilds are really sloppy. No out side work in the fields for a few days at least.

Jeff: It sounds like you did right well at the LHS.

Guys I'm bushed so I think that I'll hit the sack. I'll see you all tomorrow.

JW - The camera is a Fuji. Like I said, so far, so good. I have found it easy to use even. So, all n all, yep...good deal.

And as for those beer rigs, my mouth was watering so much, I had to get one while I was posting the photos.

One more thing, on the way back from Philly this afternoon, my dad stopped at one of the train hobby shops we had passed on the way down. I left after spending $40 there for the Walther's 2007 HO Catalog, and the other 2 Woodland Scenic Learning Kits. Suppose to rain here tomorrow so I am not sure if I'll be able to paint or not. If not, I may do one of the kits.

Ok all - off to bed.

Good evening Tracksiders:  It was a “one pair of shoes show” as it turned out Jim, but quite long enough to do all that I needed, and see what I wanted to.

There was an N scale dealer with some new Atlas equipment for about ½ price (judging from the Walther’s catalogue now that I’m home), but I restrained myself because I’ll be in his home town in July, and can see his whole stock then.

JP: The photos of your trucks are making my mouth water. (nice score on the camera, BTW. ) I’m especially interested in the N scale vehicles this dealer has, and did pick up a two pack of Ford Taurus, and a two pack of Ford F 150s.  They’re Atlas, and very well modeled.  Came out at exactly Cdn $4.00 each (taxes forgiven )

At some stage both “twins” may get a repaint, but I’m not as swift as Jeff in that department!

Jerry: The paving crew are going to have to hang around here a bit longer.  I’ve decided to swap the positions of two of the industrial park buildings, and turn one (they are, after all, just card boxes right now) on its end to make a 3 storey building, the sort of thing that would be a medical centre with a drug store on the ground floor.  You can see it in the first photo here, as well as the bare patch in front that has to be paved.  This new arrangement gives the road the same width all the way back.  It bothered me that it wasn’t.  The added height of the 3 storey will give a bit more visual interest too.  There are unpaved areas under both “old” box positions that have to be fixed, so the crew stays for now! Big Smile [:D]

CapeJim:

How do you see small enough in 'Normal' scale to paint that flag and all on the door, anyway?
…The flag (and this is easier with ours than yours) was made by drawing two thin vertical red lines at the bottom of a piece of copy paper, and a small red dot between them, and trimming the result to be a scale 9 inches by 6 inches.  Several attempts were necessary to get the technique down to where the sizes came out OK, and of course, a new X-Acto #11 blade for the project!  I did have to use reading glasses for this one, especially for fixing it to the inside of the door!

Time for bed, so I’ll say all, and God Bless.  Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

A view of the underside of my tabletop from one end

And from the front

Here's the 2 new Boley Utility Trucks waiting assignments....

Oh...before I forget...Ed sends me Orange Juice directly....

And then there's the 6 'Collector' beer trucks....

And the 3 'Collector' Pepsi Trucks....

And the Railroad Engineering firm has been on site since Thursday night....

So, as you all can see, things are progressing!

JimCG - the digital camera was 130.00 @ Best Buy, but add tax, a case, 1GB memory stick, and the $60, 4yr warranty and it was roughly $250 total and well worth every penny so far!

Hope you all have enjoyed my photos!

Night......

Hello diners........

Rain's arriving here. T-storms forecast for evening.

I posted a pix of my new geeps on the week end photo thread. Catching up on misc. stuff today.

Sounds like most people are doing fine, and I'm glad.  We're headed for Nashville tomorrow afternoon.  I have tests scheduled Monday at Vanderbilt Hospital heart clinic.  Routine for me.  I've been a patient there a few years (3 heart surgeries so far) , and expect no new problems.  Hope to get to train stores in TN before returning to KY.

Happy Model Railroading everybody!

Good evening, all! Goodness, but it sounds like everyone's been busy the past day or so! Cool [8D] (except maybe for me...) Janie, even though DerJohn's touting how good that British beer is, I'm going to stick with a Dr. Pepper today, and a side order of cheese fries, please. Thanks, Der!

Jeff, I was suspecting those new locos would be going through the paint shop. Sounds like you probably made the LHS owner a happy man today Wink [;)] - that's a lot of useful stuff on your list. I guess you'll be busy for a bit, huh?Thumbs Up [tup]

Paul (and Inch, Jerry and the rest along this front's path), we've been getting some rain today - not much, mostly enough to knock the dust or pollen off the cars. I don't think it's quite enough for watering a small garden yet. In fact, the sun just peeked back out from behind the clouds. Inch and Jerry, I think south of here (Memphis way) got more rain out of this run than you guys or I did. Supposed to cool off here some tonight (50's) and tomorrow night, but back up into the low 80's on Monday.

Dick, I'm glad I got you started planning early enough for your summer supply of those beersicles! Hate to see a man run out about halfway through a hot summer's day! Wink [;)]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^] Hope your fridge decides to behave itself soon, and you don't have to have the fridge repair guy come in and fix its brain...

DerJohn, that office by the wharf looks right nice. Smile [:)] How do you see small enough in 'Normal' scale to paint that flag and all on the door, anyway? Good luck on your 'browsing' at the show, too. How many pair of shoes will Kris be getting? - in other words, is it a two pair, three, or maybe even a four pair browsing time for you at the show? Wow!! [wow] - a four-pair show could just about give you time enough to fill up the back of your vehicle with goodies for the layout! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Inch, those KCS hoppers look really nice, all freshly-painted and clean like that. Wonder what they'll look like in a month or two. Oops [oops] On the layout space, could you add onto your train room - put an extension out one side? Or is that where Deb's got her garden (and we know that's a no-no, right guys?)?

JP, any pics yet? Wink [;)] (I need to get a digital camera, so I can show what I've been doing instead of just seeing everyone else's, dang it!)

Luc, how's Gloria progressing? When does she go back to see the doctors again?

By the way, don't want to neglect Bill T. - that guy's exceptionally faithful about bringing us those fat pills donuts in the mornings. If I didn't know better, I'd say he works at a bakery before he comes through in the morning, those donuts are so fresh! Yeah!! [yeah]

About time for me to head out for now.  I'll see you folks tomorrow! Prayers for all of us (and family members and friends) in need of them.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good morning, All.  Coffee, please.

I managed to get some ground goop done around my latest rock project.  If all goes well, I might have some photos to share this weekend.

Dan, Sign - Welcome [#welcome]  I am also fairly new to this thread, but everyone here treats you like family.  It is a great place to come for a pep talk.

Time for the weekend workout.  I will check in later tonight.Big Smile [:D]

'Morning all, drive by posting, as I've no time to tarry, but couldn't let Dick get away with that Brit beer remark.  Dick old son, the Brits brew beer for their (traditional) conditions, so it tastes great at cellar temperature. (Not warm, but not needing refrigeration, as is the case for North American, and espaecially US beers.)  That's why your 64F suds tasted so horrible, and why Brit brew at it's design temp is a world beater. (IMHO, of course!)  Glad the fridge is behaving better, BTW.

Mornin' all!

Just getting ready for class this morning.  Can't wait to get that over with!

BTW, nice job on the grades Hoople

Oh, and der, I guess I'm spoiled.  Usually if I order something it's here within a couple of days.  Indianapolis is kind of a crossroads type area, so things tend to get here pretty quick.  I would go out of my mind waiting a couple of months for something.  BTW, the layout is looking good!

Well, I best be off!

Later!

Mornin, an irish coffee please Janie, this cool damp weathers got me stoved up,

Got a thunderstorm to the south of moving this way, looks like a lot of noise, but not a lot of rain on radar. Think it'll be inside chores today and tomorrow.

Weather guessers are saying, there'll be frost on the spring flowers this time next week.

PAUL, hope you haven't washed away down there with all the rain.

DUKE, mines not big enough either, but it's all the CFO will let me have. I'm still hoping to hit the lottery.

DAN, nice looking bunch of engines you got there. I still see some C&NW cars coming through out back here, mostly box and hopper cars.

DER, those contractors done a good job. Maybe I need to hire them when it comes time for roads down here.

JEFF, I got see a KCS engine come through here yesterday with their new paint job, looks good. Here's a link to pics of the new hoppers they've got now

 http://www.trainweather.com/kcshoppersnlr032907.html

You did make a haul at the LHS and got enough to keep the paint shop busy a few days.

DICK, I can still remember the guy there in Marshall that sold ice and still delivered it there in town. My great Aunt Clara was one of them that still had an ice box, didn't like those new fanggled things, made to much noise and cost to much.

Guess I'd best get moving, so ya'll have a good day

inch

The FT is Santa Fe, the GP40 is Santa Fe, The E6 A-B set were Union Pacific but have been repainted in the KCS white 'ghost' paint. Decal are yet to be added. The FT and GP40 are also slated for the paint shop.

I haven't seen any on the market yet. When I do, I'm jumping at it (them) IF I can afford it.

I just finished installing decoders in an Athearn BB F7A and a new E6A. Tested them both and they run like champs, so I assigned them individual addresses and put them to work on the layout.

Good evening everyone, after defrosting the evaporator in the freezer section of the frig, the refrigerator section is down to 46F. Maytag says they like to see the refrig section at 38 to 42F, so we will see wh at it comes down to by morning. How can the Brits drink warm beer anyways, it tastes like pee!!!!

MIKE: I still remember our first ice box. I was 4 years old, and the iceman would come and bring a block of ice and place it right into the top section. Things were much simpler in those days weren't they?

DER JOHN: If Kris is going to shop for shoes while you are at the big train show, you should have most of the day to browse..lol

JEFF: You made quite a haul there young man...4 locos too??? What roads?

CAPE JIM: Beercicles.....lets see, Molson, Coors, Bud, Arctic Wolf, Carta Blanca, Cruz Blanca, Sam Adams.......I had better get going, it's going to be a long hot summer.

Bed time, see you guys around the frig in the am,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! I would have been on earlier today but the Suddenlink cable internet service for the west side of Leesviile was out, including Sundown. It didn't come back up until after noon, at which time I was in Alexandria raiding the LHS. $400 worth! I picked up more track, three dead end bumpers, a new turnout, 4 new locos (An FT, a GP40P-2 and a P2K E7 A-B set, both powered), 2 new decoders and some new freight cars (a CSX coal hopper, A WM boxcar and a wide-vision caboose), also picked up a spare Bachmann EZ command controller, in case I should need it and got a ten foot extension cable to run to a turnout on the far side of the layout. How's that for a haul!

Good evening Diners:  The paving contractors have been busy in my industrial park, (That’s wood filler over the sawdust/glue ground cover, sanded and painted.) and down at the wharf.

JR, take a look at the door of the office building by the wharf.  You’ll see a Canada flag denoting the Department of Fisheries and Oceans office for your sister! (The notice by it even has the government regulation grey paint sign on the door glass)

Train show tomorrow, I’ll be there in the afternoon, while Kris is trying to find a pair of shoes.  However the estate sale of N scale equipment won’t be happening, as someone offered the widow a lump sum buy out that I hear is very generous for what was there.  Probably will not see Fergie as he’s there in the morning, and I don’t know about Luc.

Duke:  That benchwork is WAY elegant.Bow [bow]  Nice to have that much space too.  I remember your Atlas TT conversion…that should work out well with the depth you have in the benchwork.Thumbs Up [tup]

Garry:  If you can’t find Flax, can you get Physilium husk?  It’s very good for what you are after as well.

PC:

Hey, I finally got my turnouts delivered yesterday.  I ordered them two weeks ago and I've been waiting ever since.
…2 weeks would be fantastic service for around here.  I generally reckon to start asking about the order after a couple of months.

Paul: Glad the cold’s some better, but it sounds like it really knocked you out for a bit. Hope you have a restful weekend. We’ve been keeping a “weather eye” out for you guys since we heard about he storms Wednesday through Thursday.

I guess our pond will be filled up.
…so long as it isn’t the 3 months rain in 36 hours that they got in New Zealand the other day!

Dick:  We have a small Danby freezer that got suddenly hot one day last summer (almost too hot to touch the outside casing!)  The inside continued to function normally.  Finally sorted itself out after we unplugged it, defrosted (it wasn’t extreme) and plugged it in again.  Been fine since, but I test-touch it every now and then….

Dan: …Thanks for the photos, (I’m on dial up so have only seen the first few, but those are great looking models!)

Ryan:  Good to know Ed’s OJ will continue to flow uninterrupted, and that he is having fun spending the profit from his tank car shipments here!

Congratulations Mark on the report card.

all, and God Bless. Prayers for al in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]
