Sue - I'm trying to do dirt - kinda like what a field would look like after a bulldozer has finished doing site preparation for a shopping center, office building, etc. I figure that once I get it the way I'd like it to look, then I can 'model' the site preparation work being done for for a rail line/spur, etc.

Just poppin' my head in the door to see who's here.  I see Jeff over there in the corner.  He looks comfortable there sleeping.  And there's Colby.  He's not sleeping!  He'll probably never sleep in this place again!

Colby!  You put that ice water down!  Don't you dare throw that on Jeff!

Good afternoon everyone, 33.4F right now and raining....about as cold as it can get and not snow. Areas to the north of us are expected to get 18" of snow tonight and tomorrow, we should get about 3" here....poor man's fertilizer right Mike?

SUE: WOW, that many waiting for the book? I guess others are finding it as riveting as I did. The audio cassette might be a good way to go, but I'll bet there is a healthy waiting list for those also.

JEFF: All you need now for your night shots is a backlit moon in your sky backdrop. Use LED's to backlight the moon.

RYAN: Good ones, I like the Sondra Locke ones. I saw your swing gate idea on the gen forum, that was a real good idea. I'm looking at doing the same if I have enough room to swing a gate at least 90 degrees without obstructions.

FERGIE: So, you bought a 2-10-2 at the show? A Sante Fe model? How does it track on those 18" curves?

Later guys,

JP, Are you modeling a dirt lot or concrete with your experiments?

Dick,  I was going to order the book through the library, but there were 88 holds ahead of me on the list for 12 books. Sad [:(]  Maybe I will check the book store.  A sound recording might be handier because Larry can take that with him in the truck.

Jeffrey,  Those photos turned out great in B & W.  Keep sharing.

Paul,  I know how it is to chase cattle.  The only time that I have had to chase cattle since we have been on this place was several years ago.  One of them scratched on the gate until the latch came undone.  Now all the outside gates are double latched.  But two legged critters are different thing.  There is no way to manage them.

JR, Sounds like racing is keeping you busy.  KW's rule.  It is a lot of work to keep them happy.  We did a rebuilt with CAT while Larry was off at Christmas time.  The tech put some magic #'s in the ECU and that big boy has big power and close to 7 mpg.

Jim, How are the rocks doing?  Did you come up with the reddish color?

Well, today, I will try to cut some stumps and start my scratch building project for a wood tunnel.  The stumps are cut from branches taken off trees on the place.  I dry them for a year, then scrub them, and dry them again.

Later,  Sue

Jerry,

Yeah, that's a Life Like, the later run with the split frame mechanism.  I managed to get a decoder in there, but it took some chopping.

It runs great.  Smooth, quiet, and being as its a chunk of lead in there, it'll pull your molars out.  The paint job is nice, too.

To make sure you're getting the right release, the older one with the plastic frame and lead blob mechanism has truck mounted couplers.  The newer one is body mounted.

Hey, are you gonna finish that plate of bacon?

Jeff- right now I have my power pack unplugged and all wires from it to the layout including switches are disconnected. last week it was working fine. I did run my NYC engine, but I have to have it at Noch 8 for it to go express passenger speed and when the throttle is half way up it hardly moves.

I painted the foam base with a light tan acrylic with some browns muddled into it, then sprinkled a little fine brown sand into it while it was wet.  I wanted it to look like a badly maintained gravel lot...

Good Morning, Zoe - cup of coffee and some of these:

with some strips of bacon and a glass of Ed's orange juice, plus a glass of 'moo juice' to wash it all down. Dinner [dinner] Thanks, Bill T.!

JP, I like the lighter dirt a little better, but use what fits for your RR's setting.

Lee, what are you using for the 'sawdust' around the lumber yard? That looks good, whatever it is. Yeah!! [yeah]

JR, sounds like a good trip - be even better if that stuff would quit breakin' on you! Wink [;)]

Well, I'll see everyone later. Take care and stay dry or warm, depending on if that front's moved through your area yet.

Bow [bow] Angel [angel] Bow [bow] Angel [angel] Bow [bow] Angel [angel] Bow [bow]

We want to send you a heartwarming thank you to all of you who included our relatives in your prayers.

Your thoughtfulness and outpouring of prayers will be rewarded twofold, because you know you always get back more than you give.

On a lighter note, here is some fun wordplay that I found:

  • If Bo Derek married Don Ho, she'd be Bo Ho.
  • If Oprah Winfrey married Depak Chopra, she'd be Oprah Chopra
  • If Olivia Newton-John married Wayne Newton, then divorced him to marry Elton John, She'd be Olivia Newton-John Newton John
  • If Sondra Locke married Eliot Ness, then divorced him to marry Herman Munster, She'd be Sondra Lock Ness Munster.
  • If Tuesday Weld married Hal March III, she'd be Tuesday March 3.

Another interesting bit of tid: IT takes about 200,000 frowns to make a permanent brow wrinkle.

You all have a great day!

Good Morning All,

Drizzly but moderate temp this am. It's good to be back though Savannah went well. Took a first and sixth in the enduro, broke a motor in one car but had a spare to put in, broke a clutch and input shaft in another but was able to borrow parts to fix that at the track, and lost an ignition system then a head gasket in a third car during the race. We ended up running eight cars for six drivers total after one customer dropped out at the last minute. A lot of work, but a good result.

Went to the museum last night and it was ever so relaxing to work on the display there. The yard ballasting is nearly done and the lower level of "my" side is nearing completion at the same time. Takes your mind off all the rest of the nonsense of life.

I see you've been prolific in my absence. New loco's, stuff ordered and lots of good progress and pics to share.

Luc - it's good to  hear Glo is doing better. She and Sallie will remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Trent - Hang in there - you're making progress medically and the rest will follow. Please keep us updated.

Ryan - I thionk the ongoing tragedy in N.O. and the surrounding area is a national disgrace. The mess still to be cleaned up is one thing, but the human suffering is beyond comprehension and to my thinking totally unacceptable. Hope your folks can arrange the help they need and of course they're in our prayers. I wish the government would do what it is supposed to but they seem preoccupied defending all their other issues. And after what just happened they allow faulty pumps to be put in ? Sheesh !

JP - I like the dark brown better - looks more like earth but it could be grittier. Maybe some larger particles mixed in? With the paint they'd look like rock (can't have any earth here without rock in it).

Well, I still have Pocono to prepare for and work on one trailer and my Kenworth genset so I better get after it. My prayers for those in need and I hope the rest of you have a good-un'. Cheers, J.R.

Hello.....  I'm back after being in Nashville a couple of days.

John P ...cheers for your "dirt"...... looks real.

Jeff....... thanks for sharing pix!  look forward to the day you can get a "Southern Belle" loco.  Looks like you've got an active layout.

WM Lee.........  neat downtown scene.

Ryan........ that's a trully disturbing matter your family is dealing with.  Yes, you and family on prayer list.  I hope folks involved are aware of the power of prayer and how miracles do result.

Trent... are you there?  ....still concerned and praying for you.  ....let us know how you are.

My situation. .....  had my routine tests at heart clinic.  The good news is that my heart condition has not deteriorated.  Still awaiting some of the results, however.  So it looks like I'm good for a while longer.

Everybody.........   did you learn about the French train that went over 350 mph?  They may have patterned the drive after the old Athearn Hustler drives.

Keep those layout and model pictures coming!

Happy Model Railroading!

Evening Gang:

Ryan:Angel [angel] I hope that everything works out.

JP: I'll go with the dark brown.

Not much going on today. We got the 97 F-150 back today and it runs like new. It should with a new engine. We went in for supper at the Pizza Place in Weatherford, the best pizza anywhere. When we got back we got the cows out of the pasture and I noticed the gate by the UP was open. Someone had opened the gate and then hooked the chain without catching the gate. So here we go again. Locks on the gate and carry the artillary.

Fergie: I had thought a decapod but since you like the 2-10-2s so much I thought you might have got one of the Life Like heavys.

I guess I'll head for bed. Good Night All

evenin, just coffee Cleo, Mother's fixing fried chicken n baked squash.

RYAN, thoughts n prayers from here, for the best.

Storms came through earlier than expected, this afternoon, not this evening. We missed the bad stuff, even though we were under tornado and thunderstorm warnings for awhile. Got a lot of rain, some hail reported, and wind, so I've got more limbs to pickup again.

LEE, liked your pics there, looks good

DICK, our stove will be going by morning and the next serval days. Highs in the upper 40 to low 50's and lows in the 20's for the nexted week. Going after more pellets Friday, hopeing for the last time.

JEFF, liked your pics too, just for info, septic tanks are mostly concrete anymore.

Only got J Bird tomorrow for bout a half day. Then no kids the rest the week [well not suppose to].. Mother just hollered, soups done, catch ya'll laters

Good Evening, Chloe - I see WM Lee's got the one corner of the booth staked out, so I'll have the salmon steak special

and some coffee in the other corner seat there. Lee, nobody warned you about hitting the TOP (Top Of Page) in here? Oops [oops] Usually, if you get the TOP, you get to buy the beverages (and meals, if you're not careful!). I'll cover for you this time, but next time you get it, you better negotiate terms with Chloe before she turns the bill over to her cousin Vinnie (Don't want to have to 'Mess'(TM) with him, if you catch my drift...)Evil [}:)]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Ryan, your relatives are on my prayer list. I would second PC's suggestion to supplement the counseling, too. That's a hard row to go if they're feeling that they are out there on their own. Better to have as many others for support, an ear or shoulder to be there for them, hugs, or whatever is needed.

Oh, WM Lee, I'd agree - nice work on the building, especially since it's in iNvisible scale. Nice job on 'em. Thumbs Up [tup] I'll have to go back and look at some more of your website, too.

This was a lonnnnggggg day - had one I was trying to get into the hospital and they took almost two hours to get back to me on that. Banged Head [banghead] We had about four (or five) crises going on, some in the building and a couple or so out of it. My co-worker who helps me cover went out to get one done, a case worker supervisor was meeting with another (and I guess didn't have to hospitalize that one), and I finally wound it down about closing time with lunch being a couple of half-sandwiches (those triangular ones that grocery deli's make) and a soda from the maching being my lunch (no time out of the place). I decided I needed dinner over here to treat myself.

Jeff, some nice shots of the layout - I really like the night ones (with the headlights on). Like your shipping company building, too!

Rain has moved through here for now and it's clearing. Haven't seen tonight's forecast, so I don't know if this will be it for a while or if we get more of this tomorrow. We'll see. Wink [;)]

As Ryan said, prayers for Monique's relatives - and the rest of the family, as well. Jerry, Sallie doing okay? And Inch, how 'bout Deb? Seems like the CFO's and other family members have been having it as hard or worse than the Diner regulars lately. Might not hurt to include us all in the prayers.

I'm gonna get back to my salmon for now. See everyone later.

Blessings, and prayers (definitely),

Jim in Cape Girardeau

The box I sent you should be there in a couple of days. There's two power packs in it, both Athearn Train Packs. Be careful with them. Your equipment only works well if you take care of it.

I have over loaded the unit a few times because I was running my 0-6-0 and it derails before a switch and derailed more when it reached the switch and caused a short via the the main driving rod. and with DC wires making contact with AC wires.

Make sure your wires are connected to the DC output and not AC. Also, the throttle could be faulty. Have you overloaded the unit? That can happen if you try to run a bunch of locos at once. It's designed to handle three, four max.
