Good evening mmrs: Rain, wind and not very warm.  Spring in Nova Scotia…what can I say?  I’m decompressing after doing the family’s taxes this week.  Glad to say that there should be a refund.  Sad to say not much will get to the layout, as most has to go for property taxes.

I’m plunging back here on this page rather than trying to catch up.  Haven’t done much of anything on the layout except make a card sleeve to fit over the newly placed box representing a 3 storey medical centre on the industrial estate.  The green is wrong, but I wanted to have something to brighten it up.  Doing this mock-up has shown me that the styrene version should have more windowless space at the end away from the door and stairs.

Chuck!  Hope it’s a good one for you.

RT:

hey der got your email and u either forgot to put it in or it is being removed by the email host here.
…it must be being removed.  I sent it so that it would be “live” for you, that is in the format with <  and > fore and aft of the address, so they come to you in blue.  Does your mail host skim those out generally?  As you see from my explanation in my email, I was careful to be sure that it was in this time!

I’ll send it again without those <  > things and see if it’s any better.

Well, I think I’ll go and sip a cup of tea in a quiet corner before heading off to bed.

May this Easter be a blessing to one and all.Angel [angel]

Dick - water/glue mix...as in 50/50 or a different ratio? I was trying to get a 'base' color applied to the foamboard before I went that far, hence the reason for painting it w/ a mixture of dirt/paint - for the appearance of a freshly cleared right down to bare hard/compact earth - kinda of like a freshly prepared area for a new section of track or right of way for the MoW vehicles and such.

HEY RT, wish you'd look at my next post, you'd a seen that was #1 son's 4 wheeler not mine. Of all the days for you to show up, now all I need is PC to find his way in.

GARRY, hope your upcoming trip for the kids baptism goes well and any more news from the doc's is even better.

RT if the cats start finding new homes, your gonna be in big trouble son.

Got a little more cleaning done in the train room and I can see most the layout now, probably finish that part tonight. Even got most the honey-do's done, well enough that I'm not in dutch with Mother anyway.

Ya'll have a good evening, catch up with all laters, time to play

JR...New engine is running great...It runs slow enough that I can switch with it..First time I'd been able to drop a car down a siding and pick up another...My Son coupled almost all the cars up and put the new engine on train was about 2 cars from catching its tail ran for about 5 minutes till he had the "mother" of all derailments!!....

Good to hear from Trent that health issues are being resolved.  Cheers to you.

Ryan .....good to learn there may me light at the end of the tunnel on your family matter.

We're still dealing with a very difficult and troubling matter pertaining to an out of state family member.

I received more test results yesterday on my heart condition and they were disappointing.  Earlier test results were encouraging, so keeping things in perspective........... I'll be okay.

Good news is this Sunday, two grandkids (out of state) will be baptised, and we plan to attend.

Some day,  I'll get back to the layout!

Happy Model Railroading, everybody.

Afternoon, an irish coffee Zoe already had lunch, left over hillbilly beans n cornbread.

The reason the kids hadn't settled on continents yet, was because Server Pro and the electronics guy hadn't turned in every thing yet. They should come out ok on that, they had 55,000 insuracance there and almost nothing could be save. Besides they've already replace most of what they lost, [thanks mostly to the folks round here], so most of that will add to their down payment.

JR,, know what ya mean bout something breaking, from back when I did some racing or work in the pits on a couple cars. Didn't seem to matter what ya did before you got there, there was always something to fix before you was done.

I got a little time in the train room cleaning this morning, but I need to finish some extra chores. Mother thought since it was to cold to work outside much. She SUGGESTED, I do some inside stuff for her. After all these years togaither, I clearly understood the meaning. So, maybe I'll get to play some more laters.

Good morning, all.  Coffee please.

Dick,  Yes, I have been up a while.  I did get a late start though.  I did not get home from the rock gym until almost 11:00.  I decided that today I would get back into a more structured exercise routine (starting this morning).  I will probably look for the book on CD since it is harder to get cassette players now. On your butterfly bushes, it will not be too long.  A couple of months and they become weeds again.

Chuck and Kathy,  Did you get your rock down yet?  This dryer weather should be helping it to pack.  We usually put crushed black rock down and it packs almost as hard as asphalt.  Happy B-Day [bday] Chuck.

JP, It is fun doing the experiment to find the natural look.  I am having fun with ground goop on my hillsides.

Inch,  Sitting by and watching them take less is hard.  A fire can be very hard on a relationship. It is like starting over. I am sure that they are just trying to get their lives back to normal.  I hope that they are able to draw from each others strengths and get through this.  A previous employer of mine watched his three story home burn to the ground.  There was not enough water from the hydrant to save it.  He kept saying that it was just stuff, everyone was ok.  There cars were not in the garage, but everything else was gone.  The stress trashed their marriage, and they did not rebuild.  Getting their lives back to normal is a good thing, so be patient.

Ryan, My stumps come mostly from Noble Fir and some from Douglas Fir.  I cut the branches very close to the trunk with the chain saw.  It is hard on the tree so I stick to the ones that we will be taking out, and sometimes they are already down.

Jeff,  It is still early for lunch here, but this looks yummy.  I think that german potato salad might do well to replace the potatoes. It was great to see your layout design.

Well,  I think that I am caught up.  I think that I will go cut a few more stumps before I go outside to work.Big Smile [:D]  They are saying 67 degrees today, so I bet we will make 70.

Good morning everyone, the sun is trying hard to make an appearance after 4 days, but it is a chilly 31.8F right now at 10am. We only received 1" of real heavy wet snow, so I was thankful for that, as I only had to use the wide blade push shovel for that mess. Ohhh, ohh, did I use the word "Mess"? I forgot that FERGIE has a patent on that word.

MIKE: That is too bad about the lower settlement for the kids....but, as you and I know, they get over anxious when they see the $$ and jump too soon. I hope things work out for them however.

We had a bad fire a few towns away two days ago, an older couple perished in the fire. Cause: Smoking. Smoke Detectors in house? YES...Batteries? NO Time and time again we see this right JEFF?

RYAN: I am going to measure my swing range today to see if the gate idea will work for me. I am using a wider gate because I want to use more of that width for landscape. If it is too wide to swing free, then I will cut back to a double RY bridge width, and have a river underneith the bridge.

J.R. : I see you guys got plenty of rain south of us. Both of us didn't miss the big one by very much at all...that is Ok with us right?

Time to get going, coffee break is over..

Ryan,

Conjunction Junction was Schoolhouse Rock, my friend.  Sesame Street was NEVER that cool!

I arbitrarily assigned that group of photos that title as they feature the area around an as-yet un-named wye junction...

Morning folks!

Update on the cousins family. They have sought counseling and are on a better path now, the prayers are working so keep them in your prayers! Monique spoke with Kathleen last night and she seems to be in a better place and her spirits are lifted. This is just a beginning, but they seem to taking care of themselves better now.

Thanks again for all your support and prayers, they do work wonders!

Lee, I like your lumber shot there. The photo name "Conjunction Junction" reminds me of that little ditty "Conjunction Junction what's your function?" from Sesame Street. Nice web site too, very nice! Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Sue, those waffles really look good, but I will wait until the weekend to have a batch of those with some warm blueberry syrup on top too! Your stump project sounds interesting, what species of tree branch do you use? Question [?]

Dick, glad you like the swing gate idea. I had struggled for months with how I was going to tackle that task and then that MR issue had the article in it that inspired me to make a similar plan. Get ready for some more freezing temps, maybe even some snow too!

Duke, I get an email or two here and there from Phil/Flip and it seems like he has been busy lately. Apex is only three weeks away, but who's counting!  Whistling [:-^] Big Smile [:D]

Chuck and Kathy thanks! Oh, and you got your tax return back too! We just got ours a few weeks ago, sure is nice to have the extra $$$ in the coffers. The CFO just approved another RR expenditure, YES! Yeah!! [yeah]

Happy Birthday Chuck! Happy B-Day [bday]

John, as long as you are buying, I'll have the cottage cheese and fresh banana special for breakfast. Thanks! Dinner [dinner]

Paul, sounds like you got a full day yesterday!

Mike, glad to hear they were able to settle with the insurance too bad about the contents though!

Cheers,

Ryan

Good Morning All,

Chilly but dry this morning - we got lots of rain instead of Dicks' snow. Pocono next week (With the vintage cars we use the south course which incorporates the turn three banking backwards and some interesting turns back to it). Started bringing in cars that ran last weekend as we also thrash to get ready for next week.

Inch - thanks. When you bring more than a few cars something always pops up for trouble. The clutch problem was a new unit we were trying - didn't last two days, and the motor was the result of a broken valve spring on a fresh motor which if it's going to happen, will occur sooner rather than later.

Jerry - how's the new loco working out? With luck you can do like Ed and make up a train that nearly catches it's tail.

No MRRing at home yet this week - too busy catching up with chores so maybe later this week. At least it's nice enough that I can think about getting back out in the rail yard. Gotta go - things to do.  CUL,J.R.

Mornin, how bout a short stack, sausage n coffee Zoe

Down around freezing, forecast high, low 40's, maybe some sun this afternoon. Tonight clear calm winds, with a low bout 24, that'll take care of some fruit.

GMT, good to have ya back and the racing went well, even with the problems.

That's what they say anyway, don't know how it works for sure, but it does. Do know the deeper the ground freezes, the more subsoil moisture there is.

UPDATE on the Clyde and Heather's fire, they settled with the insurance yesterday on the house, but not the continents. Paid off their mortgage and still have enough to make a big down payment on a modular. Me n Mother wasn't happy bout what they settled for, but it was not our call.

I got a little time in the train room yesterday cleaning and plan for some today after chores. With no kids around today, maybe I'll get more done. Best get around, hope ya'll has a gooden and stay warm

PAUL: You had quite a day young man !!!! It was wise to dress warmly, the weather across the country has been very unstable this week. First we had record high temps, then a surge of Arctic air is spilling all the way to the Gulf States with record cold temps for this time of the year. Our immune systems don't know which way to go to regulate our body temps. Keep a good stock of chicken soup handy. LOL

Time for bed here on the East coast, I just looked outside and it is snowing hard, an inch on the ground in the last 15 minutes, so seeing it is going to snow all night, I guess we will have at least 6" by morning...is it Spring yet???

Evening Gang: Believe it or not I got up at 6am this morning. I went downstairs and watched the news and weather. The weather girl said the temp was 52f and was going tobe cold and windy. I went back upstairs and got a flannel shirt on. After that I went to the basement and worked on the RR untill daylight. I took the decks and rails off a couple of the N scale deck truss bridges that I bought. After cleaning the trusses up I'll use them for the Sunday Lake Mine head base. I'm still waiting for the signal bridges for the tram tressels.

After it got light I headed out and fed the animals and put the hood back on Mary Anns tractor. Then I graded the parking area for the trucks and loaded the extra gravel in the dump trailer. After breakfast I did some work on the road to the old hay barn and worked on getting ready for the county's spring clean-up day on the 14th. By 6pm I was bushed. It felt good getting up early so I may make it a habit or maybe not, we'll see.

Chuck: I couldn't read the gold lettering ether. I'm happy to see that you and Kathy are doing well. Getting out and around is great fun.

Well both Mary Ann and Daisy the dog are in bed so I think that I'll do the same.

Good Night All

For those of you who haven't seen it on the main page or in the Layouts section, this is my track plan. Several of you have asked to see it, so here it is.

I know there's going to be a flurry of suggestions about where to put what new track and where to rerun a track. There's not room.

Good evening everyone.....we had showers this afternoon at 33F, then the rain really came down which brought the cold air down from above and it changed to snow which covered the ground, then it slowed down so it changed back to light freezing drizzle. It is raw and cold outside, so the Pellet stove and the Wood Burner ( Dutchwest) are going full throttle.

CHUCK: The sunshine looks nice, but I can't read one word in the gold lettering LOL.

ALEX: Hey, good to see you back in the Diner!!!!! I see you are still in love with Guilford, errrr PanAm! Things haven't been the same since the B&M days!!!Maybe project "Phoenix" will bring back the B&M.

J.P. : You want dirt to look real? Use real dirt then spray with water/glue mix. Kind of chilly out in KC for the game tonight.....80F on Monday, 38F tonight....nice !!!!!!!

SUE: I checked the butterfly bushes for dead flowerheads......I'm afraid that the last storm did them in...all they are suited for now is "dead-fall" in the woods and along streams.

10/4

Evening all -

Just a quick stop by this evening. I'd like to take a moment and thank you all for the comments. I really appreciate them alot as this is my 1st take at doing this. I'm thinking I'm going to go with the paint/dirt mix for the 'base' (think of what the dirt would look like if the railroad came in with some excavation equipment and tore up the rail and bed and made a level path for future roads of walking trails, etc.) before I start laying roadbed. I'm planning on doing this over the upcoming weekend, so look for new photos come early next week of the finished base cover.

Have a good evening!

EDIT - rats! TOTP again. Go easy please, thanks!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
