Hi everyone,

Haven't been on for a few days, just letting you know the big demo deck job didn't get the best of me. Was no walk in the park, but it's taken down with no casualties. Boy, I feel so bad for those fellow workers that have been on the jackhammer for the last 2 days. I feel like I got to skate by doing some punch list to stay ahead of the electricians, plumbers and granite installers. Of coarse this was after 2 grueling days of demo/ diassasemblly of the sagging/ dryrotted 3 story mess that some would call the front porches. Next week comes the fun part of rebuilding them.

I just wanted to stop in to say Hi. It has been very hectic around the house with all the goings on.  There's so much family here from CA, TX, NJ and DE for the graduations I can't find any time to really get on the computer. Don't want to be rude to all the house guests, Many I haven't seen in years, they couldn't make it for April's funeral.

My son's graduation was very well done. Some of the speakers were a bit long winded but all were so excited they didn't care. I'm so proud of his accomplishment, just wish his mother could have been there.

My youngest, April Lynn is off to her senior prom tonight, she looked absolutely stunning. I'm waiting for a call from her to allow her to leave the prom "lockdown" party.

Need to get to sleep, I have quite a weekend ahead of me. A nephew's graduatiuon/ party from U Mass and my daughter's HS graduation party on Sunday.

When I have some more time, I'll catch up on what everyones been up to and stop back.

Have a good evening,

Root beer float time.  I thought that  I would drop in for a few minutes and say "Hi".

I haven't been in as much because of my work schedule.  How do you guys work full time and get in here to chat regularly?

I did add another piece of retaining wall.  I will get a fresh batch of dirt from the lower field before making my next batch of ground goop.  Maybe I will get pictures to share.

Good evening, Chloe, I'll just have a cup of coffee, since I had dinner at home earlier. No offense to the cook's fine skills, of course.Smile [:)]

I've been gone from the Diner waaaayyyy too long. Kind of in a funk of sorts, which is puzzling, since today I started seeing outpatient clients again (which I enjoy much more than crisis), and the two sessions I had went well. Maybe the weather front west of us is affecting me...?

DerJohn, always good to see that ol' Revell small town station - that's one of the best shots of your layout I've seen recently (lots o'progress, nice background, very good w..k on that!). While I might be tempted to get something larger in a loco, I only have the 90' Walthers turntable, which limits me to Mikados or Pacifics in terms of length. Besides, for my tastes, those big articulated locos like the Big Boys or Challengers look too big, so I'll stick with the medium sized engines for my layout. Might like a 2-6-6-2, though, if I could justify it in the Southwestern setting of my RR. Y'know, my layout does have to fit in an apartment, after all, so can't fit the big engines in... But it's a good thing I only can fit the medium or smaller locos, since Fergie's cornering the market on the 4-8-2's and bigger ones...Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Oh, I did stop by the LHS (in-town) today; I'd left a copy of my list of Kalmbach books that I have with him (after closing, slid it through the gap between the doors). He did mention to me that Kalmbach's coming out with a couple of new books (this fall, Nov. and Dec.) - one by Tony Koester on scenery, and another by Jim Wilson on Detailing Diesel Locos. The prices are going up though - about $20 and $21 (rounded up) for those. I'll probably be ordering those through our club member/LHS-down-the-road owner, since he at least discounts our orders. Heck, some of my older books (bought probably in the 1970's) were $3 or $4.50 each. (Okay, 'gramps' will refrain from a 'good old days' lecture at this point....).

Uh, Garry, did you see yourself floating above the layout, watching yourself running trains during that experience you had? Wink [;)] Sounds like something else! From the description, I'd say it was an excellent operating session.Yeah!! [yeah]

Yep, Mike, if you look at the outline of Missouri, the one 'bump' about halfway down the eastern side of Missouri is about where St. Louis is located. If you follow further 'down' that side, the next 'bump' you come to that sticks out should be about where Cape Girardeau is. We got some rain (off and on) the past two days, but more sun today. Humidity is up, though - didn't really want that before August (if ever...).

Jerry, sounds like you're making some progress on your freight cars there. Keep up the good work! Thumbs Up [tup]

And it looks like you're doing your part, Jeff, to keep your local economy going and strong (via your LHS)...Wink [;)]

Flip, from tonight's news & weather, it looks like you might be about to get some rain from that tropical storm (Bernardo or something; I wasn't listening quite that closely) coming your way. Should water your lawn for you - at least it doesn't look like it'll develop into any hurricane; you just may need to keep the trash cans and the dogs inside so they don't float away.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Well, I finished my dinner dishes, washed and in the drainer. In consideration for Ryan's diet, I won't go into a long description of my dinner. Don't want him to end up raiding the fridge later tonight.Shock [:O] Good luck with that, Ryan. I need to get going with the exercising myself, since I've been trying to keep my portions smaller, but haven't varied more than a couple or three pounds one way or the other. Banged Head [banghead]

Think I'll grab a nice glass of wine and sit over here in the corner spot by the window for now.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

It's gonna be a pricey trip. At $3.039 a gallon for 120 miles round trip (10 gallons at 12 mpg) that's about $30.39. BTW, that's about half a tank.

Afternoon Gang:

Dick, we have a contractor do the cutting and bailing. We're about 4 weeks behind because of the rain. There hasn't been a window when he could get over here. Of course he's behind also so I don't know when it will get baled. It hasn't rained yesterday or today but the fields still have water standing in a couple of places and the creek crossing needs to dry up so I can clean it out again. We just gota wait.

I guess it's a good thing I don't want a 4-8-2.

Well I need to get back to mowing the grass in back.

Hello everybody and good afternoon.

It's root beer float time for me:

I must inform you that I was in the layout room for a couple of hours and had a "a partially dissociative experience or emotion induced when excited, pleased, aroused, or when doing anything that is interesting and desirable" .....................   now, it was really something! (Kinda like Fergie and his 2-10-2's)

Hmmmmmmmmm Dick.  I'm glad I have this 4-8-2 and one other 4-8-2 in the round house. I think you're on to Fergie's doings.

Jerry.... Bachmann took about two moths with the warrantee work which I hear is typical.  My experience with such stuff is limited, but I'll say I had quick turn-around with Walthers and a Life Like E7.

Happy Model Railroading!

Chow time, Zoe, I'll have a ham n cheese and onion rings please. Sunny here with a chance of a pop up thunderstorm later. Been out trying to finish this weeks mowing, but that came to an end. Electric company showed up to drop 2 trees for me and they did. Now I've got a mess to clean up and a bunch of firewood for the campground. Problem is, the chain saw is in town and no way to get it out here till this evening, so this weekends plans have changed now.

JIM CG,, didn't realize you were that far south of St. Louis, but I should have. They said on the news last night, the first thing the pilot said to the guy that found him was "I know you". Turns out they had flown commercial planes together. Small world isn't it.

JERRY,, no pics yet. Waiting to see what it looks like first. Guess I shouldn't really call it a trestle, it more of a wooden bridge that I found north of Mattoon on the IC track.

DICK,, no rain fanning or kids today. Was suppose to have KC for awhile, but my other DIL decided to keep her today. Most the grandkids like to go chase trains with me n grandma. A couple of the bigger ones think it's stupid, but they still like to run the layout when they get a chance.

Best get back to it, got some weed eaten I can do.

Good morning everyone...good Lord it's almost lunchtime!!! Haven't even been outside yet this morning..........two of our grandchildren graduated from high school last night, big party afterwards, didn't get home until midnight....yawn.

Today there are scattered TS's forecasted, and they are going to be severe with gusty winds, downpours, and frequesnt cloud to ground lightening. As PC mentioned, there is a blocking HIGH off the mid Atlantic coastline pumping lots of hot, humid air up the west side, and we have a backdoor cold front from Maritime Provinces of Canada trying to come down the Maine coastline and do battle with the atmosphere. Meanwhile, PC's upper level LOW in the midwest is pushing errant weather all the way up into Canada, then swinging down over Quebec into northern NY and NE....so things are very interesting weatherwise.

TRAIN stuff: Just reading is going on right now, still too much going on outside with yard and gardens, but we are getting there, and soon we will get back in the train room.

GARRY:  Important!!!!!!! I just received a "private" email from a friend on PEI, and he told me that several LHS's up there have orders in for all their 4-8-2's and 2-10-4's, to be shipped to NS and a RR called " MESS ". Now I ask you, what does that tell you ???

PC: I just received a call from the Weather Channel, you have a job interview scheduled at 5PM today, if you get the job, you will be doing segments on how weather effect railroads. Were're "pulling" for you PC ( no pun intended ).

JEFF: WOW...more orders for desks, that is GREAT news.......if this keeps up, you will be able to spend a lot more $$$ on your deisel fleet!!!

PAUL: How do you manage to bail the hay down there with so much rain? I know up here the farmers have to watch the weatehr carefully, cut the hay, let it dry for a day or two in the full sunlight, then bail it and get it under cover before the rains come. You guys get so many TS's down there, how do you manage it? Is it just you and Mary Ann doing the tractor work?

FLIP: Rains are coming at last for Florida!! Tropical rains from the Gulf are spreading into FL, and none too soon with parched lands and reservoirs drying up. Now the FEC won't have to bring all those tankers full of water into the southern routes.

ED: Have you had any luck with re-installing your mail program?  Ohh, I didn't see you taking your noontime siesta...yes, it sure is hot and humid in olde Mexico this time of the year. Just sit back and enjoy that Mango/Orange spiced rum cooler.

FERGIE: Wherefore art thou??? I know you have busy cornering the market on 2-10-2's and now 2-10-4's ( which are much better than 2-10-2's ). And, there is this rumor, well founded I might add, that you are now going after the 4-8-2 market??????

LUC & JOHN: What is going on with Fergie and all these Super Power Steam locomotives? Did he excavate a room under the new sunroom addition to give him much more room for a larger layout??

MIKE: Good day to take the grandkids on a railfan trip, show them the ropes on taking pics, and they can enjoy the trains too.

Time for lunch,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Good morning diners.......

It was a great operating session last night. No derailments! I'll revise my response to the ICRR layout question.  Actually my friend operates IC trains spanning mid 1950's to present. Only steamer is a static display in a park scene.

My Bachmann Spectrum heavy 4-8-2 returned from warrantee repairs.  They sent a new (or reconditioned) one to replace the old. Those are very nice engines and I'm pleased with Bachmann's handling of the warrantee. Don't tell Fergie becasue he'll be buying up 4-8-2's next.

Hey, there's Philip, now.  G'moring sir.  You weren't in the diner last night.  Was that because your inspiration got you to work on the layout continually all evening into the wee hours? Track installed?  Wires connected?

Jeff's really working at the day job. Wow. He's the hard worker of the day.

Happy Model Railroading.

This is probably going to get me TOTP honors, but here goes anyways!

Good morning and welcome to June!!!

It's supposed to be raining here according to what they said yesterday, but there isn't a cloud in the sky.  Guess the weather guesser was wrong!  Probably rain later though.

An interesting weather pattern is still locked in place. A large blocking ridge of high pressure on the east coast and a huge upper low in the plains are the main features(upper-level pattern). The ridge continues to knock down most storms that are rolling into Indiana, but a few got through yesterday and this morning.

Today and Tonight: a few isolated storms or showers popping up out ahead of the upper low and temperatures will move into the mid 80s and the humidity will increase a bit.

The Weekend: Saturday we will see a few more t-showers, with even more coming on Sunday as the upper low moves ever closer to the Hoosier State. Temperatures will drop slightly Sunday, more lower 80s versus the mid 80s that we'll see Saturday.

Maybe I can get some layout time in this weekend!

It's a slow night here. No one has been in since Jeff at 5:50, and the diner is on page two.

Mary Ann and I went out to Clark Gardens this afternoon. We had intended to pick up some Cana plants that they were going to through out but they we all gone. The manager sold her a wnole truck full of other plants for $69. There were cedars of two types, decorative grass that gets to about 5 ft high, some Cana and a couple of day lilies for free. We know the Clarks and the manager. Other then that I got the far back yard partly mowed. I really should be bailing it it was so thick. I'll get the rest tomorrow.

Well I guess I'll head for bed.

Good Night All

Home at last! At the shop this morning, we were discussing what we're going to be doing in the shop now that we have the current order of desks and printer stands two-thirds filled when the head man of the VSW comes in and tells us that he's recieved an order for 40 more desks and they have to be completed no later than June 30th! The current 84 PLUS 40 more? There's only 5 of us there. Two more people will have to be brought in to help. It's going to be balls to the wall, but we think we can do it.

Hello diners.........   I'll have cottage cheese, fruit and a granola bar.  ah........ will power...isn't it something?

Yes, Ryan, I get to Cincinnati.  In fact, we're headed there for a granddaughter's sixth birthday this weekend. (Six. Wow. Time is slipping by.)  What dates are you going to be there?  Great Hobby shop is Golf Manor Hobbies.  Watching trains? Just keep an eye on the railroad bridge crossing the Ohio River next to downtown.  It's a continous parade of freight trains.

There's a really neat train layout in Cincinnati that receives hardly any mention in the model railroad publications.  You have to see it.  It's in the Cincinnati Museum located in the really neat old art deco Union Station building. It's a fantastic replica of the city circa 1950's.  Trains of the era from B&O, SOU, PRR, and others that served Cincy in the 1950's. Trolleys operate, too. It's really impressive.

Dick.......  yes, Fergie must have started his corner on the 2-10-4 market by now.

Jerry ......  The IC stuff is mostly relatively modern era, but not limited to that era.

Well, my layout is ready for operation tonight. Plenty of freight needs to move between Blackhawk and Prarie View.

Ryan .  a diet,eh....  let us know how strong the will power is.

Garry, it's strict diet time! Trying to loose some weight here, the ole inner tube around my waist has got to go! Thanks for congrats on the layout! So far so good, have not cheated once, and we are in the middle of day three now!

I like the auto rack photos from the 70's.

How about that, Ed and Duke posted one after the other on page 196! Glad to see you both back in the Diner!

Anyone been to or live near Cincinnati, OH? I just found out that I will be attending a conference there next month in June, just wanted to know if there were any good rail fan spots or LHS and train shops I might be able to visit.

Cheers,

Ryan

Good morning everyone, cloudy here today and 65F with sun burning through the clouds at times. We have a cold front right over us and we are centered in the battle zone as the warm front and cold front oscillate back and forth for the next several days.

MRR'g: Other than reading the latest mags and books that I bought, not much getting done in the room, too much outside work to do, have to wait for rainy days.

MIKE: The water being left on was 100% "me". I was so tired at the end of the day that I forgot to throw the handle back down on the hydrant fitting on the well. It will be tough for the family for a while, especially Abby, who needs her mother the most at this point in her life.

JIM: I have done the very same thing with books from Kalmbach. When I listed them on a spreadsheet, I realized that I had some duplicates for the most part, just superficial changes.

FERGIE: I hear there is a big sale on 2-10-4's , seeing you have not been in the Diner for two days, are we to assume that you are trying to corner the market on those locomotives too?

10/4

Mornin'!

Thought I'd stop by to say hey!

It is going to turn out to be another hazy, warm and humid day across Indiana today with highs climbing into the mid 80s. Early this morning, skies are clear to partly cloudy and readings are in the 60s. Temperatures will remain in the 80s for the next few days.

Forecast is showing scattered showers and thunderstorms across western and southern Illinois. A weak disturbance should bring a little better threat for scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. We could use the rain as the month of May has been dry in many areas. The National Weather Service is 2.25" below normal for the month of May.

As we head into the weekend, a cold front will slowly move into the region. This will keep the threat for scattered showers and thunderstorms in the forecast through the weekend. As usual, no all day rains are expected but scattered thundetstorms could occur at almost anytime.

Guess that means I get some layout time this weekend!

Good Morning everyone. Oatmeal & TH coffee please! Thanks to Luc for the TH coffee.

Luc, I hope no news is good news (unless I missed something). Is Gloria doing okay now?

Jerry, I do not have pix at the moment of my friend's IC layout. It's under construction like most layouts.  However, he has some very nice scenery already. I'll take pictures when I can. It's worth a shot, so to speak.

Jeff, sorry your town had such a storm. I hope everyone is okay. You mentioned your Dad being a bus driver.  Cheers for him.  I was a bus driver (motor coach operator as the uinion called it). I had some fun driving city transit busses in the snow and ice in the cold north. I was in my 20's then. I've done a lot of goofy stuff after that.

The great lakeside model railroad bash is tonite.  SO, I'd better get busy with more tidying up of the layout.  Time to hustle my caboose.

Everybody: Happy Model Railroading!
