HI ALL
Not much time to read all the back notes just 8 pages behind. All is well, nice day out 62 and part sun. Ground is dryiny up and flowers are comming out need to cut the yard most of back is just about thigh high, front was cut down to ankle height and my allergys went crazy, cough, sneeze, watering eyes, oh s**t really bad took 3 days for it to settle down, I won't do that again for a few days. The reason is that yellow weed scotchbroom, wind blows the pollen all over the place, so I found it or shall we say it found me........
I found this just lately "I see you are a logger and not a common bum, for only a logger would stir his coffee with his thumb" , so I guess that I'm a logger 'cause most of my RR has to do with logging. And I also like trees.
SUE:
The rock was put down on the 18th and smoothed out same day [last friday] 6 loads 35 feet with a lot 20 by 20 for parking. Looks nice and Kathy can drive on it, 1/2 minus nice pretty rock, good drainge 'cause of sand underneath.
MICHAEL & KIM:
Really glad to hear the news, just be carefull and watch the weight. Glad to know that yuo'all are happy about the blessed event. Yuo'all will go done on our friday Mass list. KATHY
ALL:

Good morning,
Hope that all of you are enjoying the holiday weekend. Yesterday the weather here was absolutely fantastic. Low humidity and temps barely into the 80s. A gentle sea breeze cooled all day. Today started off cloudy, may rain but expected to clear later in the day.
Today is my oldest daughter's birthday. It seems just like yesterday that we were at the Beverly (MA) Birth Center where the midwives delivered our beautiful girl, Jennie Marie. Selecting a card for this first birthday without her mother was tough. I purposely picked a card "from both of us". On it I wrote," Even though Mom has passed, her spirit is with us forever". This needs to be a special day for her. Jennie is the one who really stepped up to the plate in helping me through dealing with all the financials, life and health insurance nightmares and most of her mother's accounts. Quite the fantastic young lady. We're right there for each other.
JP: Thank you for you thoughts and prayers. A am doing much better lately. I'm very proud of my kids, I couldn't ask for any better. They want to thank everyone for your concern. Some real nice pics from your trip. Happy to hear thing are going good with Krista. Is she broken in on the finer points of "trains"? Or did she break you yet? Woman and trains, there's not too many like Sue. Oops- edit: never mind on the romance front, hope it works out...
Sue: I do mean this as a compliment. There's a rootbeer float here with your name on it. So what are you using for the stain for the retaining wall? Is it to be old creosote or weathered to a gray, maybe a little of both?
Paul: I hope all that rain doesn't come this way. I need a decent week, weatherwise, my entire week is outside work on rebuilding 3 story decks. I'm glad you got out to a show. Even if it wasn't a great one, like you say any show is better than no show. I guess you'll have a busy AM with Mary Ann's containers.
Geez, been sort of working on this post off and on all morning. Think it's time for some lunch, How 'bout some steak tips and corn on the cob. A litle early for a Sam, and a rootbeer float would hit the spot.
inch Looks like your getting soaked along with Paul. Nothing wrong with hiding out in the train room all day. Did you spend any of the weekend at the camp?
Jim: Yes, I really hope I've found the "ticket" to dealing with all those memories. It seems to get better by the day. Maybe next time at church you can find out more about your mystery woman. Do you have a fellowship, coffee and such after church? That would be a great place to "corner", uh I mean talk to her further.
GARRY: I'm handling things pretty good I think. Kind of surprised myself. I'm glad that the MDF works out for you. You just need to excuse a die hard, old school carpenter. I always want to work with materials that exceed the specs for the job, plus I have no problem spending my client's $$$, especially when I know I'll not have any issues to deal with down the road. Sounds like you have a nice shop in that basement.
Philip: Was great posting that link for the race. I was busy most of the afternoon, so I didn't get to watch everything. So I see your out railfan/ spying these days. So what do you think was under those tarps anyway? What a great pic for the remembrance of the day.
Hoople: You gota not let this guy get to you. You be the better man, ignore the BS. Without fuel the fire goes out. Relax and work on a train any way you want..
Fergie: Nice that you could meet up w/ some train buds. Have you two met before? It's really too bad you just "had" to go to the LHS. So that 10 wheeler was calling you.
Dick: Sounds like you had a productive Sunday. I really should have the garden planted, but the spot is far from ready. I even have stored crap there and just haven't the mind to deal with it. Maybe if I hussle and move everything, prep the soil, I might make it. Naa, got way to much goings on these next couple of weeks, w/ all the graduations and parties. I know I'll regret it come July and have a barren plot. Have a question. I want to get my daughter a remote trigger or whatever it's called for taking shots on the tripod. She said something about a wireless instead of cable. I don't have a clue an figure you would know what to buy for her D70. Kind like some rookie buying you and engine and don't even know what road.
Quite the letter to Uncle Buddy. It's sad to see the decline in respect for all those that fought for our freedoms. I have seen this through scouts, school activities and the shrinking presence of the spectators at the parades and memorial ceremonies. Sad.
trainmaster: This is Memorial day, not Easter. So just how much chocolate did you pig out on?
Colby: So what's going on with your F7? Sounds like an Athearn if your wanting to repower it.
luct: So is this just a hit and run?
Michael and Kim: Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Well the weekend is winding down. Not looking forward to this week of work. Have a very difficult 3 story deck to demo and rebuild. The staging is not right, too hard to reach many areas, the electrical service (400A) runs right through the staging, no space for a dumpster but way around the back and all this work is being done with nothing more than the sidewalk below. Will be short 1 man, while he's in florida for the week. Not my choice of work, but someone has to do it.
Thursday evening is my son's graduation from MassBay and his Chrysler certification. All the family is due back for all the festivites starting off from Friday on.

Ahhhhh, the skies have cleared, the temp is 76F and climbing, what a beautiful Memorial Day! The kids just arrived home from their weekend camping trip to the coastal shores of CT, always happy to see them safely home towing that 33' camper.
Today the Wart Hogs had a fly-over at noontime as the parade entered the Common in town and the salute to the flag began. It is sad because this is the last time we will have this fly-over, as the wing is being transferred from Westover AF base to somewhere south of New England.
I am headed out to the backyard picnic table to sit in the shade and read several MRR and Train mags and books, a perfect day for that.
GARRY: I like your idea of building one module at the time, and doing the complete job. I see many merits in that approach. When I do phase II up on the 2nd floor of the garage, I will have to give that method some very serious thought.
Later,
Good morning.Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 5/28/2007

As the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend comes to a close, many Americans will begin their journey back home, either by way of interstate or airport. Regardless of the mode of transportation, weather could cause a few problems for travelers over the next couple days. Here is a daily breakdown of possible travel trouble spots:
Today:
A scattering of showers and thunderstorms will again develop across the Southern Plains and Midwest. As a result, airport travel in and out of Dallas, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, St. Louis and Indianapolis could be affected. Additionally, traffic along portions of I-35, I-44 and I-70 might be slowed by the hit-and-miss precipitation.
Farther to the north, a more organized storm system will bring a greater chance of severe storms to Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas. Travelers planning on taking either I-90 or I-94 through any of the aforementioned states should expect a few slow-downs if a storm moves across the interstate.
Stretching from Florida to North Carolina, tranquil weather conditions will pave the way for a great travel day for airports in Miami, Atlanta, Nashville and Charlotte. Travel along the southern half of the I-95 corridor should be free-flowing as well.
Farther north, spotty showers and blustery winds should make for tricky travel from the Mid-Atlantic into the Northeast. While the precipitation will take aim on Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia, wind gusts in excess of 30 mph will be possible in upstate New York and New England.
The entire Western U.S. has a great day of travel shaping up as high pressure will keep the hazardous weather away. The lack of weather-related tie-ups should keep traffic on I-5 moving just fine and flights in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Phoenix on time.
Being as it's getting near lunchtime, I'll have something appropriate.
Hello everyone .........
Ah...... thanks Luc for the T.H. coffee. Terrific!
We returned from Louisville last night (3 hour drive) where we were the last couple of days.
Catching up on Diner posts, I see many kind thoughts pertaining to Memorial Day including (but not limited to) Dick's Uncle Buddy, Jeff's re-post of the CSA vets, and Luc's Canadian vets. Thank God for our military heros.
There were a couple of comments regarding my layout construction. Thanks for your interest. Bobk asked if there were any problems with sagging with my MDF. No, Bob. there is no problem with that. All main benchwork pieces are of MDF. They have not been sealed or anything. I think all the screws prevent that in the same manner as screws prevent plywood from warping. I use plywood as the base for roadbed. Risers are of whatever is handy (pine or MDF).
Dick mentioned room sizes. The layout room is 64 feet long but relatively narrow with widths varying up to a maximum of about 14 feet. The room is oddly shaped because on one side it follows the foundation walls along the "uphill side" of a house built on a hill side. The layout room is the backside of a walk-out basement. My wood working shop is a separate room at the end of the train room taking up the remaining 24 feet of an 88 foot foundation. The wood shop has an assortment of power tools and a dust collecting sytem.
Also, Dick mentioned my procedure of building only a few sections at a time. One of the advantages to me is it keeps me interested. ....... I don't: do all bench work until it's done. Then do all trackwork until it's done. Then do all wiring until it's done. Then build all buildings until they are completed. Then do all scenery until it's done. Instead, I build one section at a time until scenery is installed, and then I go to the next part. It's more fun this way.
Bobk: we're here for you. Sounds like you are handling the grief as well as can be expected. God bless you and your kids.
I hope Michael (8500 hp gas turbine) is okay.
Jim in Cap G. Sorry the driver died in the truck accident. I could think of some "pun" jokes pertaining to a wrecked truck load of bee hives. But, since somebody died I had better not.
Well, now I'm almost done with my second cup of T.H. coffee. Thanks again, Luc.
Everybody, Happy Model Railroading !!!!!

SUE: No, I have not been bowling since the league season ended in late April. Lorraine has been bowling though, she is in two women's leagues, Mondays and Tuesdays, two different bowling places. Her leagues ended in April also, but she and her friend bowl throughout the summer every two weeks or so to keep in practice. As you may not be aware, we bowl Candle pin, which uses smaller balls and smaller pins, and you get 3 balls as opposed to 2 for 10 pin bowling. Candle pin bowling is only in parts of Ohio, New England states, and Nova Scotia.
So you took the Mallet for a spin this morning I see......better do that now before the grille gets heated for the BBQ this noontime !!
Good morning, I will sit back and enjoy a coffee, please.
I am sorry that I missed Jim's root beer floats yesterday.
We have not had much layout time, but did exercise the mallet while working out last night.
Bob, I have not spent as much time working on trees as expected because the weather has been good because you need to make hay when the sun shines. I am hoping to cut & stain some lumber for my retaining wall by the scratch built tunnel project.
Dick, Have you been bowling lately?
Philip, It is good to hear that your wife is doing better.
Jeffrey, Your photo on the abandoned track thread is one of my favorites that you have posted not counting your abandoned loco.
I am around even if I am quiet.
Sue

Jim - I wish i could still say the social life is going good. Not sure what happened between yesterdays 1st post and noon today other than @ 645 she emailed me to tell me she now wants me to not call/email/txt msg her not even atempt to try and see her ever again.
So, who knows. Best thing is that her cousin ( buddy of mine) is going to see her tomorrow @ a family bbq and plans on asking her what hapened and why. Yes, I called him when I got the email and told him and he's at a loss for words too.
Oh well, life goes on. I am off to bed here shortly. Maybe I can sleep better tonight than I did last night.

Jeff- you know the motor problems I'm having with the FA7 or something. well I have the June Issue of Model railroader and saw an add for NWSL: North West Short Line. the motors they have could be the answer to the motor problems. www.nwsl.com is there website.

Good evening everyone, I hope you all had a great Sunday. The veggie gardens got planted today, so now that is one more job out of the Honey Do jar completed. I noticed that I had not changed the oil in the lawn tractor, rototiller, and push mower, so that made the list for things to do next week. The gas cans are all empty, and 87 octane is at $3.05 now, but we need the mowers and goats are too expensive, so $55 will fly out of the budget next week.
DAVE: There will be a memorial for the Iraq war, there is too much support for our men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
MIKE: That was a very moving video. I have seen this before, and it still brings a tear of pride to my eyes. This is one smiling face that will great our men and women upon their return home.
An open letter to my uncle Buddy, who has been in a Veteran's hospital since 1949, having been the only remaining soldier alive from his squad under attack in December 1944 in the Battle of the Bulge:
I only knew you a short time Uncle Buddy, I was only 4 years old, and you were 18, when you came home to the farm while on leave from basic training. You took me for a walk along the old B&A train tracks that warm Sunday morning. Soon, you were off to war and I never saw you again until 1945. I remember the terrible nightmares you had, which finally caused you to make the decision to enter the Vets hospital for shock treatments. They didn't work, and you have spent the rest of your life in that hospital in North Hampton, Ma. Because of you, and the many millions of other men and women from all the Allied countries of the world, I had a safe home and country to live in, raise my family, see my grandchildren born, and meet so many nice people, like those on this MRR forum. God bless you uncle Buddy, and all those veterans living and passed on who paid the high price of our freedom. We will NEVER forget you!!! Your nephew, Richard.

Oh, and Chloe....Another root beer float over here please! Thanks!
Evening, Janie - I'll have a root beer float, please, and some cheesey chili fries. Yum!
Boy, I take off for part of yesterday and the place slips to page 2 - shame, shame! Good thing Paul came by this afternoon, or we'd maybe still be there. I'll bump it a bit to help the cause along.
Well, and it looks like I'm covering the dinner, folks! Okay, Janie, let me know what the tab for these chowhounds totals when I get back later... I think PC suckered me into this one!
Luc, nice photo for Memorial Day! I assume that's from close to your area, based on the uniforms they are wearing. Thanks for bringing in the Tim Horton's for the morning bunch, too. And how's Gloria been?
In running through most of the (many) posts I've missed, I see Jeff was chowing down on one of those dagwood sandwiches that could feed 3 or 4 of the rest of us... The appetite on that 'kid'!
Hope all our veterans in the forums and around your areas have a good (and well-earned) rest this weekend. Kick back and enjoy the day, and remember all those who didn't come home in one piece.
Bob K., I think you have the ticket there, with remembering all your good times with your April Marie. Hope you have a good time (and a good feed) at your family get-together. Good thing those bees at your job site didn't have an opening on the inside, where you were!
Anyone see about the truck wreck south of Cape along I-55? Happened couple of days ago and they may still be rounding up the bees. There were about 700 hives on the truck when the driver fell asleep and ran off the road. Driver died in the wreck, and three area beekeepers with full protective gear were trying to re-stack the tipped over hives to get the bees back into them. I heard there were a million plus bees on the truck and some thousands might still be loose. Highway Patrol put up a warning flashing sign that told people on the interstate to keep their windows rolled up and to NOT stop until they were long past the area. Local TV station has a video linked to their home page:

Storms haven't been too bad this afternoon; area got a good soaking in the yard (I dashed out to roll my car windows up before the worst of it arrived). Looks on the radar like it's tracking mostly from mid-southwest Missouri up toward St. Louis and then up Mike and Jerry's way, but not a lot of severe cells showing. Should be good for the gardens around here. Now maybe enough will stay in the system so PC and our upper Midwest crew won't have to water their gardens.
Good to hear Ken L's still alive and kicking - and Jeff and JP, are you guys trying to start a tree or something? Heck, we have enough trouble keeping the young'uns from doing that!
JP, nice group of photos there - I think I've seen that one-stall enginehouse in a Kalmbach book (or one a lot like it). Hope things continue well with your social life. Taken Krysta railfanning lately?
Got a few emails from Flip (in Florida), for those who know him. He said they've had smoke smell from the Georgia fires, but not all the smoke itself, and that it's been fairly dry down his & Deb's way. Flip still is working long days, but said they're giving the drivers some time off in the middle of the days, so they end up only working a total of 7 or 8 hours a day. He said he hasn't had enough energy because of the dragged out days to do anything on his MRR'ing. Sheesh - some companies!
Fergie, good to hear you got together with Siberianmo, even if you were 'forced' to go to the LHS... So, was that your fifth or sixth 2-10-2, I'm losing track...
I was able to make it to the friend(from small group)'s funeral yesterday morning, and a good number of the group showed up. Her health had abruptly gone downhill (even after she was admitted to the hospital early last week). Dee wouldn't have wanted to drag on for months or years, so it's better that she has gone to be home. She was a caring and friendly person. Hard on her daughter Tammi (only child), though. You might keep Tammi in your prayers, please.
I got called out early this a.m. (about 6:40) - the primary on-call had just finished up an assessment at local jail and had just got home and to bed (she lives about an hour north of Cape), when the ER called her. So I went there for her, and luckily was able to finish up in time to make it to early church. I was supposed to help our pastor with Communion at the early service, and had no idea of how to get word to them if I was going to be running late.
Need to head for home (now that I've got my appetite started), and fix dinner. See everyone later tonight or tomorrow morning. It'll be good to have the day off tomorrow, and to not even be the backup! Probably won't set the alarm a bit.
Did you guys catch CSX and the Govt. moving alien engine parts down the line in Indiana?

Here it is 4:15 in the afternoon and we're on page 2. No one has been in since PC this morning. I guess the weather is better where most of you are. Actually it hasn't rained much today so far. The gang got most of the first coat of paint on the shop. I went to the train show in the morning and worked over there after I got back. I got one very old all metal MDC taper side ore car for $3 and a couple of books on Mack trucks. It wasn't much of a show but you take what you can get.
Well this should bump us back to page one so I'll say so long untill later.
The 91st Indianapolis 500 is under a rain delay after 113 laps, with track drying underway. Tony Kanaan led when the race was suspended, with Andretti Green Racing teammates Marco Andretti second and Danica Patrick third.
Of course, it's blacked out around here. But that doesn't mean I can't log on to a webcast live from the speedway! http://www.indycar.com/video/
Found the Diner hanging onto the end of page 2 and decided it needed a bump.
I've just been busy changing out all the light fixtures in my trailer. I've switched from fluorescent tubes to those little spiral fluorescent bulbs. I'm using the 26 watt 'Energy-Smart' daylight 6500K bulbs. They come in a blue and white package. They put out a nice blue-white light equivalent to a 100 watt incandescent bulb. The 'Enery-smart' bulbs in the green and yellow package put out a yellowish light that I don't like. If I want yellow light I'll get a bug-lite. There's 4 in the front room, 1 in the bathroom and 2 in the bedroom. That's 182 watts on the spirals and 20 watts on the tube in the kitchen. That's 202 watts total on the lighting if they're all on at once. With the old lights it would take 384 watts. That's a difference of 182 watts.
