Good evening all, I'll start off with a large chocolate "Frappe" (shake).
The temps kept climbing along with the humidity today. Didn't realize just how hot it was, the stone carriage house I'm working on keeps very cool. I'm still in awe with those cherry cabinets, installed some appliances today (top shelf to say the least). The lot in Lexington, Ma is shaded most of the day. We had quite an experience yesterday. I was roto hammering for some anchors on a brick inside wall when other workers started hollering to shut the windows. When I looked out a window next to where I was working, all I saw was a huge mass and thousands of things moving around. What I was looking at was a swarm of honey bees. The had aparently made a hive in the walls just beyond the spot I was working. There were so many that I couldn't see the trees through the tornado shaped cloud. It took the good part of the afternoon before they settled down and returned to the hive. Early this morning the exterminators had to eliminate them. It's a shame the hive couldn't be removed. In the past few years many hives have been destroyed by a virus that has been spreading. In the past I've had hives with honeycomb spread accross 2-3 bays of a dining ceiling and wall cavities. Be keepers were able to remove them and vacuum up the bees. They say that as long as the main hive can be relocated intact the hive will survive. Pretty cool ,Eh.
The sea breeze has picked up and is cooling off a bit.
Dick: It's definitly hard when your little girl goes out on that first date. I remember being so happy for my girls, seeing them all dressed up, looking so beautiful, then you realize that they're grown up. So what pass cars did you get? Walther's or Branchline? What's going to pull them? I'm glad you could put the D70 to some work, look forward to some pics. Do you usually Photo shop them? Or you just good? Sounds like a great day. Bob is quite the guy. Some club members have been friends for many years. He's always at our shows and open house.
Jim: So your there to hold down the fort, make looking forward to the weekend that much better.
Ryan: That Rosie's Diner looks fantastic, but where's the Chevelle SS454, you know it has 'em all beat, 450HP cowl induction LS6, Detroit's finest beast and gas guzzler. Actually mine wasn't all that bad if you kept your foot out of it. But who could do that? The SS396 Camaro is no slouch either.
GARRY:The benchwork looks great, good constuction. Looks like the rest of it is the same. Has any of it been sealed? Been up for a while and looks like the MDF is stable. I wasn't hammering the use of MDF, just as a carpenter, I really do like using pine or ripped 3/4" birch or luan. Are you using the MDF for any of the horizontal supports? Any sag or deflection detectable?
Sue: How's those aggro trees going. I did some years ago but used a buffer pad. They are a little to dense, the furnace filter is the trick.
Paul: Don't you just hate it when you get to comfortable to want to go down to the trains. Usually it's so nice and cool in the basement, you can't get me out of it. I still haven't been able to get back into my projects, the desire hasn't returned yet. Still don't have my brain unscrambled or my nerves back to normal yet. I still have the 6 Stewart F3/7As and 2 F7 Bs in WM Circus to finish. All those grabs and relocating the proper 5 chime horns is a chore. These were actually the last run by Steve Stewart before the sale to Bowser. Another project is the 2 Athearn GP40-2s stripped, details grab holes, pilots and Smokey Valley Stanchions. They are waiting for Chessie paint. I have 2 PPW chassis to fit them on. Still need Blomberg B side frames. I guess your heart needs to be into it to do a good job.
There's no layout in my basement, the huge club one keeps me more than occupied.
So have been hangin' in there. Really felt pretty good lately. Michael, I hope that you and your wife can get to feel better as I do now. Some days I almost feel numb when thinking of April, like my emotions have taken a vacation.
Let's see what tomorrow brings, May 26th would have been my anniversary, 23 years with my dear April.
Have a good night,

Good, I'll have oh I forgot the name... wait I think it's fillet minyo? that's spelled phonectically It's the little steaks that are wrapped in bacon with spices.
Nothing new today except it was hot after a little foggy spell.

Jeff's leading the pack, but Fergie is catching up fast. Inch, Ryan and der aren't far behind.
Wow, Phillip's buying, count me in. Kind'a pushy Ah. So glad things are OK. How's your wife's recovery going?
So that thread has taken off. Didn't even know about the newsletter. Is there a way to read it?

PC: Good to hear that your son had a good check up. Did you take him out for a special treat?
Actually, we spent the day together. We went to lunch at both of ours favorite restarant and we're about to sit down and play a video game together.
Almost bedtime.....thought I would stop in for a cold rootbeer. Still 73F at 11pm, so it's going to be a tough night for sleeping, I am not about to turn on the AC yet, so the overhead fan will have to suffice.
JEFF: Real nice progress on the desks, you guys sure have a neat production line. Maybe you can talk the guys into a "layout" assemble line for MRR benchwork!!! As for ISP speed, have you tried one of those online tests to see what your actual speed is? Seeing the Fire station has the same problem, it is going to be hard for the service provider to say it is in your wiring...I don't buy it.
PAUL: If we get down your way, I certainly will let you know. Everytime we get to planning, the gas prices go nuts. I will not take the Ford Explorer for sure, as the best I have been able to tease out her is 21 mpg, and that is by keeping her under 60 mph.
MIKE: Last year I had to re-plant zuchinni and summer squash twice because of all the rains. This year looks better, but I wanted to wait for a dry spell of at least 5 days, which we should have now, but there is a threat of TS's on Monday, so I might be taking a chance by planting tomorrow. Everything that we grow sure helps to have more $$ in the Fall for MRR'g due to savings on the food bill. Sorry to hear that weed-whacker went deep six, but I think you got your money's worth anyways. What did you buy for the new one? I have a Husquvarna, 5 years old, and has been running A1.
10/4
Evening, I'll have a barley pop, if'en ya woods Cloe
Nothin new going on round here to talk about, still got kids most everyday and now schools out, so there'll be extra's here. Did have to buy some new blades for the rider and push mower last weekend. Then my $2 yard sale weed eater quit Mon. and had to replace it, course it worked good for over a year, bought a new one this time.
Heard on the news this morning, Illinois just took top honors for highest gas prices in the nation this week 3.59, but the 39-cent in taxes helped a lot in that record.
In other local news, Lake Shelbyville has closed the beaches to swimming due to low water levels. It's 3 ft. below normal, hard to believe after all the wet weather we had. We could use an inch or two here now, getten kinda dry. Did get a little rain here today, but not enough, Clarksville got more than enough, 2"
GARRY, looks like you had a great layout before and the new bench works looks good too.
On the high speed DSL, there's still those round here that can't get it with out going through Dish or Direct satellite TV. We have it through the phone and it's faster than dial up, but not as fast as on cable n such. The fastest phone DSL I know of is out to Clarksville, and it's a little dinky phone co-operative. There's some story bout that outfit that's kinda interesting, I'll have to tell that one some day maybe.
DICK, I seen that story on DELL and Wallyworld this morning, but it'll be Christmas before we see it round here. Mother still hasn't figured out what she wants.
Our gardens coming along slow, had re-plant the squash an zucchini this week, wasn't coming up. I wasn't the only one, a few others have the same problem..
PAUL,, feeder calves are bringing an ok price I see. I can remember giving 20 cent for'em when I was a kid, didn't make much at market either.
Sorry if I missed anyone but I'm tired n bout ready for between the sheet time, so catch ya'll laters maybe, stay safe, have a good weekend and remember those who've gave their last for all of us this weekend

Evening Gang: I'm early tonight. Nothing special just getting a head start on sleeping. It's been raining off and on for the last two days. We did get a little done in between the showers but not as much as usual. I can't say I'm sorry about that. I should get down to the basement and work on the HO but it's so nice up here and my bed is beckoning.
Dick if you get down this way you had better let me know. I know a couple of other places to go to also.
Fergie is trying to corner the 2-10-2 market. I have one and will get another one of the light Bachman's. I'd also like to get a couple of the heavy's'. I had thought I'd get the 2-8-8-2s but haven't been able to find any of the USRA models. All the ones available now are the Y-3s.
Gary: Nice shot of the Texas Special. The flour mill also looks real good. That's a great way to hide the corner.
Sue: The calves were 6mo to about 10 mo. We lost track of the old ones and kept putting off hauling them to the sale barn. The sale barn is out west about 40 miles so we like to have a good load. They weighed in at 400 to 600lbs. The price ran $1.10 to $1.19 per pound.
Well I think that I'll cut out and see what else is going on.
Good Night All

Good evening folks, all work outside stopped today at noontime when the temp hit 89F. The sweat was so bad I was cleaning my glasses every 15 seconds until I got wise and placed my sweatband on. The Seniors have their big dinner dance tonight, so my D70 was called out for action taking pics of my grandson and my grandaughter, each seniors ( where did those years go ?? ) Now it is 7:15 and still 83F, the kids are off in the limo, and I am in the Diner for a rootbeer float.
MRR News: At the LHS yesterday, I picked up a book called " Berkshire Days on the Boston & Albany", the book is full of action photos in all seasons, of the big Berkshires hauling drags on the mainline, now the CSX and Amtrak main route in New England from NY.
I also decided to get some passenger cars, as I have none for the 30-50 period that I am modeling. I got four (4) cars, a Pullman Heavyweight, a Heavyweight Diner, a Heavyweight Lounge/Observation, and a Heavyweight Baggage car. I also picked up an Armour delivery truck and a Borden's delivery truck made by Classic Metal Works, and a Ford Model "A" pickup truck made by Athearn. The detail on the Classic MW trucks is really nice. I also picked up the May and June Railpace mags, and the June issue of Model Railroad News.
MIKE: I was reading in the newspaper here today that DELL is now going to sell two of their Desktop model PC's at Wal-Mart!!!!! $349 for one of the models, so have the CFO check them out. BTW, the garden goes in tomorrow!!!!
FERGIE: FOUR (4) 2-10-2's ??????? Holy Cannoli, you must have some monsterous drags on the MESS!!!!!!!! I just have ONE !!!
PC: That is real good news on your son, I am happy for the little guy. As for LHS, we won't say a word.
ED: Has your ISP line problem been resolved? And how about your email program issue?
Well, time to exit the Diner, hope everyone had a great Friday.

I noticed that too. At this point I'd hardly call it "my thread" though. That thread belongs to those awesome modelers!

Okay Paul, how about the Texas Special? Here's a photo passing my flour mill. The flour mill was built at one of the room's corners and wraps around the corner to partly disguise it. The PA1 is a Hobbytown model I painted. After seening a photo of a Katy PA1, I just had to have one, myself.

Jim says: "Nice pics of your benchwork, Garry. I'm not sure I'd use chalkboard, though (imagine a little kid trying to pull up to see the layout, and scratching his/her fingernails across that fascia....). " Thanks Jim, but I like "scratch building".
Thanks to others who commented. My overall method is to build one to three sections at a time. I go all the way with construction to include scenery, and next I start building more sections. Normally, each section goes against a wall and measures four feet by 22 inches. ...BUT, the room is a uniquely sahpe room with 14 corners, and therefore, I have a lot of different measurements and shapes for each section. So far, I have "completed" (they're never really complete) sections following about 60 feet of walls. Plus, there's a penensula for the steel mill.
Enjoy the day. Don't get too hot in Boston area today for those up in that region. It's a good day to bake beans, right?
Hey guys.
well for those who saw the videos I hope you enjoyed them. and today it's going to be 92* inland were I have and it's already up to 80*
nothing going on really except to try to keep the scond floor at a resonable temp and hope the the first floor stays like it is now. all windows in my room are closed and the fan is on high. AC is not in yet. (whish it was) 4 day weekend today, Sat, Sun, and monday off, right now it's just me and my brother 'dangerous combo' did some track painting, got 5 or 6 pieces done with the ties painted burned umber (not lumber) my prefured chouce of tie colorand some of the sides painted a dark-light green to "match" the first set of track I painted.

I dare say! I now have four 2-10-2s on the line. It's the Bachmann. So I'll be putting in another sound decoder and more weight and another main line
Gary: I forgot to mention how good I thought your benchwork looked, wish I had taken the time to have done mine that way. I think I could support a full sized loco on mine.

Good morning everyone, 75F already and headed for record breaking territory today. The record here for this date was set in 1934, 88F, so it should break today when it hits the 90's.
The trip to LHS ( Tucker's ) was very successful!! Bob Buck, the elederly gentleman who owns the store, is one of the most knowledgable RR persons that I ever met. He had a stack of old B&W photos that he was showing to a retired NH, and most recently P&W Dispatcher whom I was introduced to, and Bob proceeded to explain each photo. They were all steamers, and dated back in the late 1800's for some of them, locations all over NE and NY mostly, some Canada.
Bob's photos are in many RR books that you may have, so look at the index and you may see Bob's name mentioned.
The author of several very popular RR books is coming to NE in August, and Bob invited me to the luncheon at the Salem Cross Inn, West Brookfield, Ma to meet this fine gentleman, and hear his stories. I will have him sign some of his books that I have bought.
BOBK: Yes, the D70 did get some shots. The Central NE RR was on the south end of the "Y" with a latchup of 5 locos, 3 were P&W alcos I believe. Then they finally started to move over the diamond a bit and then reversed back on a siding with several cars. As I was over there getting some shots, my wife called me from the westbound side to hurry back. The Amtrak 2pm came roaring through, but I didn't get back in time even though it was only 100 feet away.....that engineer from CNE RR just cleared the diamond by 2 minutes !!!!
JEFF: Verizon is converting all the old phone wires to fiber optics here too, so that will give Cable companies a run for their money for customers. The copper wires are so bad here, that DSL is not even a consideration. I am only 2.5 miles from the CO and the line was still too noisy for DSL. So I have hispeed Cable at 3 MB...they offer 10 mB but I don't need that speed for the $59 price tag per month.
PAUL: If we ever get down your neck of the woods, I will take in that display.
FERGIE: Soooooooo, you now have a "fleet" of 2-10-2's???? I guess you will be hauling some long drags around your layout!!!
SUE: I have to download my pics from the D70, I'm tardy and getting them onto Webshots site which is at the bottom of my reply. No word from Lisa yet either.
Time to get going outside, now it is 80F, the temp is climbing fast!!!
Yes, Jim, thanks, they were in a place that was easy to reach.
After a long week, it took a while to catch up, but I should be around more through the long weekend, so I will start with a coffee, and the biscuits and gravy sounded yummy for a start.
I have been making some aggro trees so my project for the morning will be to cut some furnace filter and restock the various shapes that I keep ready. I will often make a tree while something else is drying.
Well, I should get that breakfast eaten.
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Mornin folks!
Thanks for the fresh doughnuts Bill!
Oh, and here is a great shot of another diner we saw recently...
Have a Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone!
Good Morning, Diner Dwellers! Zoe, I'll have some of those scrambled eggs and sausage and hash browns that Jeff's having, plus a cup of coffee. Sue, I see you found the coffee mugs all right.
Nice pics of your benchwork, Garry. I'm not sure I'd use chalkboard, though (imagine a little kid trying to pull up to see the layout, and scratching his/her fingernails across that fascia....).
Got some rain here last night, but the front's weakening as it moves more into our area. Guess we've been too dry and the air's just soaking up that moisture. 65 F, with 84 percent humidity currently. Supposed to have chance of isolated thunderstorms today and a high in the upper 80's (88 is what the weatherguessers are saying). Tonight in the upper 60's again, and just cloudy tomorrow. That will be good, as have a church small group member's funeral tomorrow morning, so no rain would help. She'd been having some health problems and her health had just gone downhill rapidly at the last. Dee's done with that and pain now, though. She has an only child Tammi who'll be having to make some hard decisions on estate stuff, so please remember Tammi in your prayers. Thank you.
Better get myself moving - my co-worker David (and it seems like 2/3rds of the office) will be out today (early starters for the weekend). Monday we'll be closed, but I'm the backup for the on-call through Sunday. See everyone later today, and take care.
Blessings,

Near a cornfield in Indiana...
Good morning. Thank God it's Friday! I'll be heading out to work at 7:30 but I'm looking forward to this weekend. A three day weekend.Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 5/25/2007 Sundown Fire Dept., Station 23
Wind Chill: 66°FHumidity: 96%Dew Point: 65°F So Far TodayHigh: 69°FLow: 66°FRain: 0.01"Rain Rate: 0.00"/hGust: 6mph SE Today High: 85 Partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 80s. Southeast winds around 10 mph.
Tonight Low: 65 Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 60s. Southeast winds around 10 mph in the evening becoming light and variable. The Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of the summer of 2007, will be full of warm and calm weather along both coasts even as the central U.S. stays a bit stormy.
Saturday:
High pressure dominating the weather on both the East and West coasts will produce warm and pleasant conditions and abundant sunshine for both seaboards.
Afternoon temperatures will be unseasonably warm, with 80s likely throughout the East, Southeast and Gulf Coast. The West will have a bigger range of temperatures, with the Northwest and Intermountain seeing highs in the 70s and the Great Basin, interior California and the Rockies climbing into the 80s. The Desert Southwest will be the warmest as the mercury shots through the 90s and into the triple digits.
Squeezed between the two high pressure systems is a weakening front. Energized by early-day sunshine and fed by abundant Gulf of Mexico moisture, a fresh round of thunderstorms will be possible across the Southern and central Plains and throughout the Great Lakes.
Temperatures will generally be in the 70s and 80s across the Plains, with areas of the northern Plains not climbing out of the 60s.
Sunday:
The second day of the holiday weekend will be very similar to Saturday, with more storms for the Central Plains and Great Lakes and warmer and dry weather across the West and South.
The only big change will be found in the Northeast and parts of the Ohio Valley, where early-morning sunshine will give way to increasing clouds and a chance of late-day showers and thunderstorms. A few storms will also be possible across south Florida and over the northern Rockies.
The hottest temperatures will be found across the Desert Southwest, where highs will easily climb into the triple digits. Temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s will be found across the rest of the Southwest, Great Basin, inland California as well as parts of the interior South and along the Gulf Coast.
Highs across the rest of the West, Central Plains and Northeast will generally be in the 70s and 80s, with a few 60s found in the western Great Lakes.
Memorial Day:
Like a broken record, the extended holiday weekend will end the same way it began, with a scattering of thunderstorms across the Central U.S. and very warm weather across the West and Southeast.
The scattered afternoon thunderstorms will mostly be found across much of the southern and east central Plains. Additional storms will make their way into the northern Plains, Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic late in the day.
The West will continue to warm up with the area seeing highs in excess of 90-degrees expanding into more of the Great Basin, southern Rockies and spilling out into west Texas. The Desert Southwest will continue to see highs in the triple digits, while the Northwest reaches into the 70s and low 80s.
Temperatures in the East and South will also be on the warm side as the thermometers climb well into the 80s to near 90 degrees.
If a flash flooding warning is issued for your area, quickly act and head for higher ground. Remember, never drive across flooded roads, swift moving water can easily lift a car and sweep it downstream. Turn Around, Don't Drown!
good evening all...would like a cup of coffe and a slice of apple pie please!
been a great day, didnt do anything but relaxed...gonna go work on the train room later..
still in the design phase but getting there...
I will have two cups of coffee to get through all the diner chat.
JR, Well, we didn't use white glue. We may not find our track not as easy to lift up. We are quite a ways out, so I guess that I will not worry about it now.
Philip, How is your wife recovering from her surgery? I hope well.
Paul, What age were the calves that you sold? Prices are picking up here finally, too, now that the grass is growing again.
Garry, Thanks for sharing your photos. I wish that we were that far along so we had all that detail.
der, What tree projects do you have going this weekend? You are making lots of progress.
Dick, Have you been hitting the bowling alley lately? Larry ordered me a new bowling ball, but it is coming from Florida. I looked at the map and realized that it couldn't get much further. Oh, we haven't seen your photos for a while.
Evening Gang:
Dick: The museum is about 7 to 10 miles south off highway 180 and about 6 miles south of Strawn. It is on the south side of the interstate east of the cross under. They have some really great modeling on display. Of course it's in HO. The only mistake in the models of the coal mines was they used MDC ore cars instead of wood gondolas for the coal cars. I've meet the director and he is a very nice guy. He's a professor at the state college in Stephenville and is only up at the museum once in a while.
Gary: Nice bench work. I've been thinking that anymore bench work I do will be with Beach plywood. I hadn't thought about using MDF.How about a couple of pictures of the layout. What I see in the bench work pictures looks very interesting.
Zeke: Thanks for the coffee. It was very good.
If any of you are looking for a gift for you better half I'd like to suggest a digital picture frame. Just insert a photo card from the camera and run as slide show or single pictures. Mary Ann's will even do close ups of the picture and crop. It will also connect to the computer to down load from it. She really likes hers.
Well I'm going to hit the sack.
Well I guess you can tell it's summer. The diner better run some specials to bring in the customers. I'll have a large iced coffee, please.
Nice day started to get way up in the 80s.
Garry: The LHS you mention must have been Bill's Freindly Train Store. He used to be located accross from the Middleboro branch of the Old Colony in Randolph, Ma. He has since moved 2x and now in in his own building in Whitman. He was real big into Lionel, has more HO and N now.
Dick: So was it a good day at Tuckers and of coarse lunch at my favorite The Steaming Tender. So did that D70 get a workout?
Ryan: Those dance lessons do sound like fun. Could be something to look into down the road.
Michael and Kim: Still thinking of you. It's been 9 weeks for me today. I am feeling quite good these last couple of days. There may be something to "Time will heal all wounds". I never would have believed this a few weeks ago. I hope that time will also help you both.
Phillip: Hope your wife is feeling better from the surgery. I see the beast layout pic just keeps on going w/ great stuff.
Maybe the diner will pick up later,
