Well, another typical race day here in Indianapolis..........UGLY!
Uh Oh!...posted May 27th @ 9:35am The unsettled nature of the weather pattern is rearing its ugly head! In the past half hour additional clusters of showers and thunderstorms have formed just west and northwest of Terre Haute, and they are marching northeast. Like wave one, this will be a close call in about an hour or so, I'll keep you posted... Maybe Some Better News...posted May 27th @ 9:05am Just to update you on the rain...the track will see some spotty light rain for about another half hour, then, for now, there is some clearing out west (as far as rain goes). Again the focus will be on where the spotty showers will set-up until early afternoon. RACE OUTLOOK: As for the rest of the day, the key is to have this potential clearing arrive by 11am (so the race can get going close to 1pm). Then, the window of opportunity may only last for a few hours before rain chances increase a bit later today. Here is a close-up view of Forecast 8 Futurecast by 3PM this afternoon.
500 FORECAST: No change for right now. My concern after this first wave, still focuses on the batch of rain developing in central Illinois. This seems to be gaining strength and looks to move along I-70. This could arrive around mid-morning to early afternoon...whether or not it will impact the Speedway is too tough to say right now, we will have more throughout the morning. A cold front will drop into the state. I would say that rain chances will get higher as the day wears on, so the more laps that get in early in the day, (if possible), the better.
And Monday isn't looking any better!
Even the crowds at the track look kind of light. For a live shot of the speedway, click this: http://wwc.instacam.com/instacamimg/SPDWY/SPDWY_l.jpg?rnd=15-052720071001 This is the short chute between turns one and two, all of turn two, and the back straight. You can also make out the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall Of Fame. It's the concrete building just inside the short chute.
Usually by this time on race day it's a swarm of people.
Oh well, maybe they can get the race in, but it looks like it may be a short one if it even happens.
Whatever the case, here's to those who've made it all possible.........
Hey Mr. Vollmer.....what's with the hat? Wife talk you into it?
Oh hey Zoe! Yeah, I'll have those chocolate pancakes if you don't mind.
Good morning and top 'o' the day to all of ye.Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 5/27/2007 Sundown Fire Dept., Station 23
Wind Chill: 68°FHumidity: 90%Dew Point: 65°F So Far TodayHigh: 71°FLow: 68°FRain: 0.00"Rain Rate: 0.00"/hGust: 5mph ESE Through 8 AM...a few showers moving northwest at 20 mph can be expected over southeast Texas.
Today High: 85 Mostly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 80s. Southeast winds around 10 mph.
Tonight Low: 65 Mostly cloudy. Lows in the mid 60s. Light and variable winds. Holiday Weekend Outlook: Warm and StormyMay 27, 2007
The Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of the 2007 summer season, will be full of warm and calm weather along both coasts, even as the central U.S. stays a bit stormy.
Today:
The second day of the holiday weekend will be very similar to Saturday, in that additional storms are likely for the Central Plains and Great Lakes and warmer, more tranquil conditions will persist across the West and South.
The only large variation will be found in the Northeast and parts of the Ohio Valley, where early-morning sunshine will give way to increasing clouds and a chance of late-day showers and thunderstorms. A few rumbles of thunder will be possible over the Northern Rockies as well.
The Central Plains will remain soggy, with another round of thunderstorms likely. Across Texas, the additional rain could lead to isolated episodes of flash flooding.
The hottest temperatures will be found across the Desert Southwest, where highs will easily climb into the triple digits. Temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s will be found across the rest of the Southwest, Great Basin and inland California. Similar temperatures will also be found in parts of the interior South and along the Gulf Coast.
Highs across the rest of the West, Central Plains and Northeast will generally be in the 70s and 80s, with a few 60s found in the western Great Lakes.
Memorial Day:
The extended holiday weekend will end the same way it began, with a scattering of thunderstorms across the Central U.S. and very warm weather across the West and Southeast.
The scattered afternoon thunderstorms will mostly be found across much of the Southern Plains and Ozarks. Additional storms will make their way into the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast later in the day.
The West will continue to warm up, as 90-degree temperatures will expand into more of the Great Basin, southern Rockies and west Texas. While the Desert Southwest will continue to see highs in the triple digits, the Pacific Northwest will only make it into the 70s and lower 80s.
Shifting focus to the East and South, temperatures will also be on the warm side as the thermometers should climb well into the 80s, with a few 90-degree readings possible.

Jeff,
Nope, I'm not on any memorial... My name and the names of my combat weather team are scrawled among thousands of others on the walls in the pax terminal at Al Uideid Air Base as having come out of Baghdad in one piece. Some of the names have dates they died.
But no memorial. I'll be very surprised if Iraq vets even get a generic memorial in DC before I'm old and gray. It would be nice to have a place to take my sons to tell them what happened when they're old enough to understand.

Found the Diner on page 2 and decided it needed to be bumped up.
The US once had a section that wanted to seperate itself from the rest of the nation, and did. It was the CSA, the Confederate States of America. The United States government wasn't going to stand for this, and rightly so. After much political debate and bickering the southern states let their cannon do their talking for them, at Ft. Sumpter. After nearly 5 years of unrelenting war, the south was defeated, but at a terrible price. Was it worth it? Yes. Had the union remained divided, the US would not be the nation it is today. Ancestors of mine, both European immigrants and Native Americans alike, fought on both sides. Many were killed. They died fighting for what they believed in. Some fought for the Union, some for the Confederacy. Today, it doesn't matter what side they were on, except to the historians. They are all veterans, Union and Confederate alike, they are remembered as American veterans, and that is how I will remember them on Memorial Day. As American veterans who died for their country, to defend the rights and beliefs that were important to them, to defend their homeland, their freedom and their way of life. As you look around at all that you have, at your family, your home, I ask you, what is more important than that?
Evening Gang: It has been raining off and on for the entire day. I haven't checked the rain gauge tonight so can't say how much has fallen. We worked over at the track getting the shop cleaned up. We're going to name the shop for one of our members who passed away recently. For those of you who may have seen Jack Lucks HO model railroad in MR awhile back you will remember the type of work he did. Jack was a good friend and a very good advisor when needed. When he would be asked a question he would think about the answere very carefully. I can see him now thinking about what you were saying and formulating his answere. He is missed.
There isn't much else to report tonight. Of course the rain is the big topic around here. It's going to be a couple of weeks now untill we can get the hay cut and baled. It is going to take a week at least to dry out the fields.
Well I'm going to head out and see what else is going on.
Good Night All
Evening all -
Just a quick stop in for a barley pop please? Thanks.
Jeff - I don't, but my dad's father has his name on the wall inside our War Memorial Center http://www.oncenter.org/complex/warmemorial/index.cfm, but I am not sure which war he was in. I do know my dad and several other relatives were in Vietnam, but do not know if they have their names on the wall.
Informtaion about the War Memorial Center:
"An Honor Roll of over 62,000 Veterans is located on the second floor of the War Memorial. Included in this listing are names of Veterans who entered the service with Onondaga County as their home of record.
Additional names for this wall may be submitted for Veterans who have served in World War I, World War II , Korea and Vietnam Wars. There is also a section for Veterans of the Berlin Crisis and Persian Gulf War."
Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

Good day all -
My appologies for being tardy again. Have been spending alot of time w/ Krista as of late and have not had much time for myself to get things done. Thankfully, she is out helping her g/f move so that gave me the day to get laundry done, upload my photos for you all to enjoy and just relax. Although, I must admit, I do miss her eventhough she had this planned before we met. As for me, I am doing fine. Things w/ Krista are going great, or so I think. I am thinging she feels the same, as she has not told me otherwise or any different. Time will tell though.
BobK - Several things... 1st off, I am sorry to hear that you had lost your wife recently. Unfortunately when you told everyone in here, I must have been on my trip to New Orleans. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. 2ndly, Congrats to AprilLyn on her upcoming graduation. Sounds like a real nice kid you have there, as do the other 2. Lastly, JP is the name I prefer, but JohnP will work.
Mike (8500) - Sorry to hear that you lost a son. Again, as with BobK, my thougths and paryers are with you and your wife. On the flip side, Congrats on the good news that she's expecting. My you both have a healthy newborn early next year!
Fergie - I know I am overdo with my Congrats to you and the CFO on the anniversary!
PC - Well wishes to your CFO for a speedy recovery!
Ed - Good to hear from you!
Dick / Ed - Go Red Sox!
Ryan - I think you might know where the photos from my New Orleans trip were taken, so feel free to speak up!
Since this is already a lengthy post, I will wait a few before posting the photos.

Jeff: Over on PC's "What's your best layout photo?" topic, KenL. asked you about the MR newsletter. Since I have his e-mail address, I sent him the newsletter. Here's his reply.
Yeah John, I'm the guy! Thanx for the info. I signed up, still waiting for the confirmation. Say "hello" to any of the Elliott's Diner gang who might still remember me... Regards, Ken

I wanted to stop in and wish everyone a great day. I'm off to a family party.
Today started off a bit sad for me, thought the day would grow worse. Not the case, Even though this would have been my 23rd anniversary with my lovely wife, I am doing rather well. I can smile when I think of the wonderful times we shared in all those past years together.
Do have a great holiday,

Mornin, me n mother will have 2 steak [rare, meduim] n eggs, one short stack, a hot tea n coffee Janie, nope no kids today yet, tanks PC.
Rained some more during the night and more forecast for today. We were going over to the campground this evening, but those plans may get changed by a shower or two.
DICK,, I got a Weed Eater brand electric weed eater. I had one before and they seemed ok.
On the scanner ???, I've got a old Bearcat 150, programable, and a old Radio Shack, chrystal,. I like my old Radio Shack better, but chrystal are getting hard to find and high priced
I agree with you on the garden savin money. With what the stores here are gettin for less than fresh veggies, it's a sin.
No big plans for today or the weekend, other than Monday morning, we're going to Marshall A.L. for Veterans Day Services. Hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe
Good morning everyone, a cool front is moving through this morning so it is 70F now, but when it clears the temp is headed for 90's. Good time to get the outside work done while it is cloudy and a nice breeze blowing.
BOBK: I forgot to mention the mfgr of the cars, they are Walthers passenger cars, Classic series heavy weights. The Rapido cars are real nice, but so is the price tag, I don't need "gold" fleece seats. Ya, Bob is one nice guy, if every LHS had an owner like Bob, there would be many more modelers going to their LHS for sure. I spend an hour just talking with him. Then, he shows me all the new stuff that's in, and continues by explaining the history behind the equipment. He is so darn interesting to talk with, I could easily spend 4 hours or more there, but the wife can't take it that long in the car reading or walking around the area.
PC: Thanks for breakfast. You sure have a big tab, I guess it comes from knowing how to be TOTP..LOL
MIKE: Those stalled weather patterns have the midwest locked into constant TS's each day, I hope your garden doesn't get washed out again.
GARRY: How is the re-construct coming? I likeed your old layout, but I guess one can get tired of the same layout after a while, I suppose that is one advantage of adding a module at a time, you get to build something new with new ideas, providing you have enough room to keep adding on. I often thought that if I had the entire lower level of this split entry ranch, I would have an area that measures 47 feet by 26 feet. I could start in the eastern U.S. and sread west to the Pacific one module at a time. Highly unlikely that I will get the lower level, just the 10.5 X 18' that I have in one room. But the 2nd level of the garage, now thta's another matter...that area is 16' X 27' and is what I call " phase II.
A question for you guys who might own a scanner for railfanning purposes (or otherwise), what make/model do you own, what do you consider the best model for this purpose?

Thunderstorms producing torrential downpours, frequent lightning, and damaging winds will continue to threaten outdoor activities through the holiday weekend.
The trigger of this round of storms is a developing storm system moving out of the northern Rockies. Energized by the strong late-May sun and Gulf of Mexico moisture pushing northward across the Gulf of Mexico, these storms will quickly become severe later this afternoon and evening.
Additional thunderstorms will be possible across the southern Plains, the central Mississippi Valley, and the eastern Great Lakes region. Although these storms will not produce severe storms, torrential downpours could cause flash flooding. Parts of Southwest and South-Central Texas have reported flooding problems since Thursday night due to the ongoing storms.
Looking deeper into the Memorial Day weekend, additional strong to severe thunderstorms will shift from the central U.S. to the eastern Great Lakes region and the Northeast for Sunday. A new storm system forming across the far northern High Plains will refocus the severe threat in this region on Monday.
If a flash flood warning is issued for your area, quickly act and head for higher ground. Remember, never drive across flooded roads; moving water can easily lift a vehicle and sweep it downstream. Turn Around, Don't Drown!
The breakfast bar is open.
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND TO ALL.
