Good morning and top 'o' the day to all of ye. How about a boiler maker, bourbon with a beer chaser.

The rain has finally stopped! It's hard to believe it came down non-stop for 29 hours straight!

Gotta go to work in about 7 1/2 hours, We'll be making 120mm mortar rounds today. Oh joy. More concrete.

Evening all, I'll have an old Mil over Joe, thanks. Set round also
Been a long rainy day day here in the midwest, looks like another tomorrow. Sad part is , still no MRR work, to much help [grandkids]. At least their leaving for the night, so a couple hours of quiet afore morning.

JB,,, we live close to a busy set of tracks out back. Most the time we don't notice the trains, but once in a while it sounds like their coming through the bedroom when the airs right.
The housing market here has soften too, but lumber prices are still going up.

Mike,,, talked to my cousin abit ago, it's rained so much here now. He thinks he'll need a mudhog kit on the combine or wait till a freeze to finish the harvest.

Mr. B. ,,, the only time I notice the forums being busy, is when I've not been around for a day or two.

Need to go pop some grandkids pampers. Hope mommy and daddy get here soon. Catch ya'll laters

Joe, I'll have anothr over here....thanks.
Mister B. I have defentally noticed the change in the forums, a lot more useful post and a lot less complaining. To be honest, a couple of months ago I seriously considered quitting  these forums because of all the complaining, but now I am glad I am still here, things are like they used to be, there is a multitude of useful info here for the model RR enthusist. I for one could not have done what I have done if it wern't for the forums.  Taking that in condersidersation I would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone on the forums.   Mike

Are you sure they were fighting over the house, and it wasn't just a spillover fight from a football game this week?  Or, as Rodney Dangerfield used to say, "I went to a fight last night, and a hockey game broke out!"

With that, I see Joe's already drawn me my Harpoon IPA, so...ah, that's better.  Scoot down some of those beer nuts, would ya?  Thanks.

Now, I've actually been reading some exceptionally dull government documents about the proper codes for pipe colors at distribution facilities.  These are recent, and they actually specify unleaded gasoline only.  Loosely speaking, gasoline is red, diesel is yellow, fuel oil is green and kerosene is brown.

And...have you notice how busy the forums got all of a sudden?  Two weeks ago, folks were saying that they were drying up from lack of attention.  I went away for the weekend, and I had to scroll back two pages on the layouts forum!  Up here in the Northeast, we had a bee-yoo-tiful fall weekend, but I understand the pre-winter nasties have taken over most of the rest of the US of A.  Well, I guess it's an ill wind that blows us back into our layout rooms, eh?

Make the next one a Sam Octoberfest, OK, Joe?  Cheers, to the season...

Well it's that time again, ya know it happens every day about this time,  Hay there Joe, I'm thiristy,  Thank ya kindley there sir.   Had a slow day around here got my work all done by noon so I have been working on the RR all afternoon. Got the parking lot all done with the saw lines in the concrete and weathered. I used some black chalk on the roadways and I am impressed with the way they turned out.  I also tried my hand at making the road way smoothe with the tracks, and the train still crosses the road just fine.
I did break down and order some cedar shingles for the structure from Walthers. I want this to be the best scratch built structure on the layout so I am trying to take my time and be patient.  Will post some pics if you all want to see them, if I am not boaring you all to much with my building.   Well so long for now, Oh by the way, never use dulcote without a WHOLE LOT of ventelation!!!!    One good thing about not smoking....I haven't had to clean cigarett ashes off the layout in OVER 2 weeks.

Good afternoon, a large Coke and a 5th of Jack Daniels please.

Just got in from work a while ago, almost had to row home. It has been raining non-stop here since last evening. I estimate we've gotten abaut 10 inches by now, and it's supposed to rain all night too.

Hope it's dryer where you are. I'm thankful that I'm on a hill top. That puts me over 30 feet above the level of the lake.

Hey all,

Colvin, drop me a PM and I'll hit you with my email; I'll gladly take any Gumbo recipe or even etouffee off your hands (Ryan, that goes for you too).  It's gettin colder here, so time to do some spicey smothered things.  And like you, I can't get Fat Tire here in NC.  The last time i had any was about 2 years ago when our Production Manager went back to Colorado to pick up the rest of his belongings.  He had a Uhaul that was only half full, and asked if any of us liked Fat Tire.  I had him bring me back 3 cases (I think he brought back 5 of his own).  Wish I had one now.

Oh well, I'm heading to Hilton Head South Carolina tomorrow morning early.  Can't wait, finally some time off from work to do nothing.

Ya'll have a goodn.

Chris

Chris,

I sent you a PM with the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo recipe, you can cut it in half if you need too. I made this one on Saturday and it makes a 3 1/2 gallon batch.

Good morning all. Joe, black coffee here,  thanks
Got more rain here during the night, the creek in front of our house is up and running good, and both of the ponds have water in them.  There hasn't been this much water here in 8 months.  I'n glad to see it,
We have had a total of 5+ inches in just less than 1 week, I hear it is raining again as I type, glad for the  rain although I hope I don't have to swim, that might be hard to do carring a RR layout.    Have a good week,    Mike

Coffee this morning please, Joe...Or is that Joe this morning Joe!

The housing market has taken a turn here too...Across the country perhaps! As far as an effect on me, I don't mind, because the cost of lumber has gone down a bit too, which helps with the re-modeling project I have going on right now. With that said, I've got to get busy with a little carpentering this morning. I'm finishing up the last of the framing and may even get some paneling up today!

Yeah, I'll second that.  I used to live right across the street from the B&M, back when they still ran freight on the old Fitchburg line.  I still remember one time when I couldn't sleep because somebody had put their perpetually-barking dog outside.  Once the freight came along, it drowned out the dog and I drifted peacefully off to the Land of Nod.

Jeff, I hope you've got a buyer for that house.  The market has gone real soft here, and there are two new homes in the area which just aren't moving.  And, they are under a half-million each, not bad for a McMansion on a postage-stamp lot.  I hate to say it, but if the bank calls the construction loans, that house might never get finished.

One more round for the house, Joe!

coborn35: Didn't get a pic, nor could I make a link. But, next time I get to Duluth, we should try for a rendezvous. Were you running trains down town at the depot?

Jeffrey, so...you're a carpenter too! Nice little house! My in-laws house was situated close to the busy set of tracks (but not even as close as the one you're building) and was great for railfaning...But really hard to get a whole night's sleep!

Mike: I really like the Coleman Fuel diorama! As for the building...Here in our neck of the woods (but depending on the year), the building would have been sided with wood "car-siding" and most likely have a steel roof. Or...corrugated steel on the walls and roof.

     Joe,  I'm dry again.
jeffrey,  I like the home, I have been wanting to do something like that on my layout.  Make a house under construction, with a couple of trucks from Fillmore Concrete on the job.  Did you get this as a kit or scratch.  Is there a place on line that I can order scale 2x4's, 2x6's and the such?  What about wood siding such as ''teardrop siding''  any one make this stuff in HO scale.
The biggest problem I have in making a house under construction is finding the room.    Mike

How about this nice home going up in a nice quiet neighborhood.

Should be a great train watching spot. Just sit out on the porch and watch them rumble by.

A round for the gang, since I've been away drinkin' by myself this weekend.  Not alone, but the wife didn't bring any wine, the daughter's too young, and the in-laws did a lifetime of drinking in about 10 years, and now they've got to lay off for the time they've got left.  All things in moderation, I say.

My Walthers Interstate Fuel and Oil Company arrived, so now I've got something else to paint and put together.  My space is a bit smaller than what they intended, so I've got some re-arranging to do. I'll probably use some of my large collection of left-over sprues from previous kits to extend the pipelines a bit, and stretch the whole thing across the tracks.  I've got some chain-link fence on order, too.  Mike's got me inspired there, but I'm not quite ready to scratch something like that yet.

I did get to at least hear a diesel whistle over the weekend, somewhere around Norway, Maine, and I watched a video on public TV which showed a cab view of a train in Wells, Maine.

Evening all, Joe, I'll a cold one here.   Been working on Coleman Fuel today, finally got the parking lot paved and the chainlink fence up. will be putting in the windows in the structure as soon as they come in.  Here are a few pics.

I am not sure what I am going to do with the building as far as painting it or brick or rock. Might rock it up about 1/3 and paint the rest. and not sure about the roof either, Cambells shingles sounds good but $20.00 for the roof sounds a little much. What do you think? well I'll go for, check in later.     Mike

Right before dinner time all!

Well, I made it to Hilton Head, and I can't believe it, but the place I am staying has a wireless router and high speed dsl installed, all wide open.  Woo Hoo!  Now I can check my email at work tomorrow. . . NOT!  But I will check in here.  Lessee, where to begin.  I had the BIL and SIL, their two kids and cat on Thursday and Friday of last week.  The cat is still there (with the wife, so it falls into the categoory of not my problem) but everyone else is gone.  Great weather here in HHI today; it got up to 80 degrees; I spent all day riding a bicycle (think I did about 20 miles and my butt really hurts).  Tomorrows going to be real nice as well.

Mike, two weeks!  Great work.  I quit and the first two weeks were the worst, I made it two more weeks, then fell off the wagon.  I keep telling myself that I am not a quitter!

Colvin, like the idea.  I like eating, especially good food, so that is a great thought.  Count me in.  Yeah it is a small world.  I guess Tx would be the closest place for me to get Fat Tire as well; not sure I would ever drive 2233 miles for beer!

Inch, how dare you mention the "L" word!  I have that to look forward to now as well.  Maybe the wife will take care of it for me while I'm gone, and the mowing, and wash the car. . .  A guy can dream can't he?

Jeffrey, talk about Mr. Peabody and the Way Back Machine.  It's been awhile since I've seen those things.  It's nice to see someone who is willing to keep the past alive.

Well gotta go and have some more fun.  Catch you guys later.

In the case of the one's I worked on today, they're for a school demonstration, showing the advancements in computers and how far they've come. The oldest computer I've ever worked on was a Honeywell Norman. I don't know what year it was built but I'd have to say around late 60's. It was originally paper-tape feed but was converted to 70mm magnetic tape in the late 70's. It had a gigantic memory for it's time, a whole 300 bits. The main processor unit weighed about 3 tons and the tape drive weighed around half a ton by itself. The keyboard had 40 someodd keys and was about twice the size of a modern keyboard. It was a very powerful computer for it's day.
