SpaceMouseA lot of people don't like the humidity (and are afraid of the increasing number of weather events.)
I can see that. I always heard about the "dry heat" you have out West. I finally was able to experience it last year, and I do not like it. Humid heat is better for me. Your dry heat made me feel like I was inside a toaster.
The weather events are interesting. We had two named storms this year before the season even began, then hit letter "N" earlier than any previous season. We still have only run through the alphabet once that I recall. I hope we do not do it again this year.
There are still three months of Hurricane season remaining. Next week is statistically the mid-point of the season's normal activity.
York1He says it seems like most of the people moving into his neighborhood have California license plates.
Most of the people moving here still seem to have Ohio plates. I guess Interstate 75 is a good road to follow when you retire.

SeeYou190Do people move to Arizona from Florida? That is like quitting your job as an undertaker to become a mortician.

Building the Rock Ridge Railroad with the slowest construction crew west of the Pecos.
SpaceMouseI don't know what it means when 15 people put up "For Sale" signs in a neighborhood. They'll probably come to Arizona.
I do not know either. It might just be an anomoly. I have two nieces in the real estate business here. Next time I see one of them I will ask if this is a trend for some reason.

Howdy all. Do they say "howdy" in New Mexico?
I don't know what it means when 15 people put up "For Sale" signs in a neighborhood. They'll probably come to Arizona. I swear 3/4 of the population is over 60--myself included.
Put a long day working on my livery stable. Started around 6:30 am and ended around 5. I took one break and had to stop to take my son to work.
Back hurt. Need a cold one. You get 805 Beer out here in New Mexico?
Ringo58Hello all! This is my first time joining in the diner.

Ringo58Looking forward to talking to you all in the coming months. Are there any rules I need to know about?
Welcome to the diner! The Diner and the Weekend Photo Fun are my two favorites threads on the Model Railroader Forum.
We talk just about everything except politics and religion.
The Diner is also nice because we all encourage and help each other, and we avoid criticism and insults found on so many other sites.
Have fun.
Edit: Top of the page! Since it's 4:00 p.m. Central Time, I'll buy a round of whatever you want for Happy Hour.
Pull up a chair and join in the fun!

Hello all! This is my first time joining in the diner. Where my girlfriend used to live in wisconsin, there is a diner that was bought and shipped from pennsylvania in 2 peices! Also sits next to the abandoned CNW trackage.
Great setting to join in at. On a family road trip to California, we drove through new mexico and it had by far the best views! The landscape was simply incredible. It was weird to pace a BNSF train in the median of an interstate!
Great photos and videos. One can get lost in the amazement of New Mexico.
I don't have any real life pictures of the Santa Fe so heres my newest engine, FVM GP60
Looking forward to talking to you all in the coming months. Are there any rules I need to know about?
CapnCrunchThat 1943 photo is indeed a great shot. I have a few questions about the details it contains. Would it be appropriate to ask them here or would you post the picture to the prototype blog for discussion?
Good call, Tim.
I'll start a thread in the Prototype heading later this evening. I'd like to "crop & zoom" some of the details. I'm sure there will be others interested in commenting.
I have a fairly large "Union Station on my layout. One detail I completely missed shown in the Delano photo was how many carts loaded with laundry bags are there. I have plenty of baggage carts in my station but none loaded with Pullman laundry
SeeYou190 When I returned from Tampa yesterday, I noticed a lot of yard signs in the neighborhood. I drove up and down a few streets and noticed no fewer than 15 "For Sale" or "For Rent" signs have popped up in front of houses. Looks like a lot of people will be leaving, and new people moving in. I hate when that happens. We have enjoyed several years of a really good set of neighbors and no neighborhood drama. Things can only get worse. I know I should not be such a pessimist. -Kevin

It could be a good thing. There have been news stories about how hot the current Florida real estate market is. People who are tired of the taxes and other issues in Northeast cities are looking for somewhere else to settle.
This should be good for Florida's economy, as money comes in.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
RideOnRoadGreen, every time.
I go for green on pork or chicken and red on beef. Both are awesome.
I have the right to remain silent. By posting here I have given up that right and accept that anything I say can and will be used as evidence to critique me.
We have amayroal race going on this year we said one candidate that was running a close second to For Sale, according to yard signs.
We stopped and ate at this place in Cimarron, New Mexico. My wife was reluctant to eat, but it was great food.
carl425 New Mexico is great. I love a state where waiters simply ask "red or green" and expect you to know what they are talking about.

Green, every time.
Speaking of green, we would be remiss if didn't stop in Hatch, New Mexico for some green chiles. Unfortunately, the annual Hatch Valley Chile Festival has been cancelled this year. (It would have been this weekend.) Be sure to add it to your itinerary next year.
Ed,

Late to the model railroad party but playing catch-up.....
Here is an oldie,
Southern Pacific 2-8-8-4 #3800 (AC-9) west of Tucumcari, New Mexico May 11, 1940.Mel My Model Railroad http://melvineperry.blogspot.com/ Bakersfield, California I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.
I camped near Santa Fe once. I really like it in that area, The thing that always got me was that you could see for miles. At the camp gorund we were 25 miles from the interstate, yet you could see it way off in the distance. That mountian that look like it was "just over there" was a day's drive.
Jeremy, I am sorry for your loss.
be poking my head in later.
Heartland Division CB&QEd .... Interstingly, ATSF continued to use the round end observtion on the short local train. The railroad discontinued observation cars on the Super Chief and other name trains, but not the Clovis train.
They had to run somewhere once they were pulled off the mane lion. Seems like a good train to run them on.

Good morning everyone. Flo, I'll take a large cup of joe.
September is shaping up to be an expensive month. Found my garage roof sheathing is getting soft, even without any leaks. Ventilation issue. Seeing the rest of the house roof is getting up there in age, its time. I've got the tools and know how to do it, but what I don't have right now is time. If this were spring, I'd plan on working on it during one of summer's dry spells. This time of year, I need to have it done. I don't have much (any) help available, so the time commitment would be substantial for just me. Winter is too close. Can't take the chance. Then, we have to have some trees taken down. On the plus side here the first place I contacted for a quote came back with a price I was pleasantly surprised with. Then the second place came back with an even better price! I just hope this isn't fate setting me up for a nasty roof quote! Haven't heard back from the roofers yet. It has really surprised me how difficult it has been to get someone to give me a quote for that. So far, I've contacted 4 contractors. One never returned my call, one said no thanks, one came and measured and discussed details, but then never sent a bid. Let's hope the guys that looked at it yesterday come through with a bid. If they don't, I'll be doing some creative reinforcement of my roof until I can get to it next year.
Flo, how about mixing a little something from the bar in that coffee. I think I need it.
Mike

Here is an interesting example of recent investments in New Mexico railroading. Twenty million dollars sounds like a lot of money, but have a look at my next post to get an idea of how much money the railroads spend to stay current!

BigDaddyStill waiting for Comcast to tell me how much they want to charge me for running cable to the house. It is the only provider in my neighborhood, but they have decided I am not in their service area, even though the next door neighbor has it.
That attitude on their part "sucks rail spikes" as Cuda Ken would say! It just sounds like an excuse to gouge you. I suggest that you start by going right to the top of their ladder. Send a polite note to the President of the company. The worst he/she will say is "no". Everything else is progress.
