I found it.

By-Polar

Is the mink pen near Polar Wisconsin.  I always get my drinks for free there the whole night.  It's my brother-in-law's cousin that owns it.  I guess that makes him my cousin-in-law.

The man is great. Every time we go there he tries to take us in the back room and get give us t-shirts, sweatshirts and hats.  We already have those, .... we're good.

The funniest thing is when we drink for free all night we leave tips on the bar.  Tuba takes the tips reaches in his wallet and adds a 20 and tries to give it back to us and pay us for drinking there.  Are you kidding me,  Who does that?   Of course we always give it back to him.

Sometimes this man makes more money on the weekends then he does with his bar.  He caters chicken every Saturday and Sunday and has someone else run his bar during the day.  We have been down there and helped him make it and ate it.  I don't know what he puts in it but I think one of the ingredients is white pepper and the other, buttermilk.  Whatever it is it is goodDinner  He once said the recipe is so simple, I like to keep things simple

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and leave a Stein outside for Ulrich.

Taxes, things did not go that well. Seems my wife job is to keep me confused and she does it Well! Bang Head She said she had some needed paper work so I did not look for it. Guess what? Whistling Yep, next Friday back to get the taxes finished at 9:00 AM again! Sigh

Train Front Went to K-10 Model Trains today if I could donate some stuff to be given away to kids for free. Ken (the owner) showed me this little box and said "put them here" I looked at Ken and said "you are going to need a Bigger Box!" Smile, Wink & Grin The donation will be mainly cheap LL rolling stock from when I first got started and not knowing any better.

Hi, Sparky! Welcome

Sparky Rail
One day I was emtptying the basket from the central vac unit. It is bagless, so you can see everything in it, and I simply dump it in the woods.

My central vac vents to the outside. Do you suppose there was any way the snake could have slithered in through the outside vent if the damper was stuck open or the screen missing? Just maybe?

Cheers, Ed

Harmless Garter Snakes both times, but yuuuuck!

Welcome to the forum Sparky.

I'm with you.  I don't like any snake at all out-side of the house and certainly not in-side the houseZip it!

BigDaddy

I bought a boa constrictor for around $14 circa 1970 and named her Eve.  Fed it mice and at the time, I didn't feel bad for the mouse.  You feed it once a week, it  poops once a week, the perfect low maintanace pet.

We didn't keep our house all that cold in the winter, but the snake would stop eating in the fall and the mouse would chew on the snake.  Despite a 15w light bulb in the cage, the snake wouldn't eat until spring.

My future ex-wife made me give it to my college roommate.  He lived in Connecticut.  The power went out one night and the snake froze.  Had he thought of it, he would have brought the snake into bed.  Snakes are happy to sleep with a warm person.  She grew from 15" to about 4.5'.  She only bit me once, when I forgot to feed her.

This is exactly what happened in New York City.  And since we are all dining here,  I might as well elaborate.

The New York sewers are like a jungle they say.  Many people get sick of their pets,  alligators,  boa constrictors and whatever else you can think of.  When they get sick of them they flush them down the toilet.

I would hate to be a guy like Norton from The Honeymooners and have a job to go down in that sewer jungle to fix thingsZip it!

Still River channelGood Evening All,

WelcomeSparky. I'll pass on the beer Ken but I'll toast your health with a glass of Cabernet. We are well beyond just going in to do our taxes with all the business entanglements. Be interested to see how it goes this year.

Finished W**k early and spent some time fitting and fixing the rest of the throat to the main yard. Not sure yet what the final configuration will be to the engine service area, I have two tracks to the turntable/roundhouse/backshop plus two around the structures and a back door to the back shop. There is room for another turntable lead but with only three round house bays I am at risk of making a spaghetti bowl so I am thinking I'll pass. The only thing I might like is a way to go from the main yard runaround to the service side without having to go all the way back to the entrance to the yards. It's difficult as the main yard is almost 1/4" above the service area. Not going to lose any sleep over it though. 039

Think I'll just hang here for a while. Chow, J.R.

The speak of of taxes here sucks rocks.

Maybe it's something to be kept to ourselves for hard enough to deal with.  The mention of that word always goes south in most of our books.

This is a nice place to be.  A place of serenity.  Maybe we should keep it that way.

I will go along with that.  I like an Eskimo, a Malamute, a Samoyed, and a Husky.  My favorite dog was the malamute that had one brown eye and one blue eye.  But that doesn't leave out my favorite Samoyed she was special,  I loved that dog. I used to call her fluffy.  Okay I'm done here.

Good evening.

Henry ... Beleive it or not I had a boa constricter in college. His name was Edgar Allan Boa. I had similar experiences as you. Thinking back, it was a dumb idea to own one.

After moving to this home in KY, we had a pair of black snakes on our property which we called Charles and Camilla. They were about five feet long. They did not bother us, and we did not bother them. They did a good job of keeping unwanted small critters away from the house. Unfortunately, they were killed by workers building a house next door which bothered us a lot.

Oh you had names for your snakes.  Now I'm starting to get this.

This is a hard act to follow but I get it somehow.  If you see him slither enough you will miss that snake when he doesn't slither anymore.

Kind of like the botfly from South America that laid eggs on the back of my neck.

When they took over my head I really missed them when I got rid of them popping out of my head.... just kidding... that is a true story though just glad it didn't happen to me. I still don't get the snake thing though.

Zip it!  TF.

Athens, Jawjuh is better than anyplace in Flori-DUH, *especially* Gainesville.  (Possible exceptions are Daytona, where Awesome Bill From Dawsonville won a few races, and the Space Coast because of its historical importance.)

Good Morning All,

Just a regular to go please, I already took the CFO to real brekkie. No pet snakes though there is an amusing family story of my dads bus ride home from the Bridgeport post office with a rattler in a box. The snake subsequently escaped in the house much to the consternation of my grandmother.

I meant the UConn Huskies of course though we had a couple of huskie mixes among the mutts we've adopted. Debs and Molly were the best dogs ever along with Rupert and the CFO and I still miss them. Absolutely loyal and fearless if they thought the kids were being threatened.

Bear, I have been to that part of NZed but didn't realize the history of the area. Rotorura is where the side load container trailer company was based that we visited trying to see if we could get a US DOT spec setup. At $250,000.00 it was too dear to consider and the whole idea got shelved. If we were to start over, it is the ideal way to go either with 40 or 53 ft containers instead of the huge expense of a semi trailer for each big car. The first trip we spent a day driving through the forest parks southeast of Taupo. 145k of windy gravel and dirt - what's not to like? Took three trips through the car wash to turn the rental Holden back to original blue from stone grey. We also visited Mt. Egmont which was still active. Quite the treat. I think you win the prize for the best workshop ever.

Well still redoing brake shoes and a trailer roof today so into the shop it is.

Good Morning —

I recall seeing photos of the Troy Union Station area and the overhead signal tower straddling the tracks which I thought was a neat detail and something that would make for a neat scene on a model railroad:

 Troy_PC by Edmund, on Flickr

I have seen something similar on George Selios' layout. That plus the buildong backsides and alleyways abutting the tracks really makes an interesting scene. The train shown here must be the NYC/D&H Laurentian.

Across the Hudson from Troy is the huge Watervliet Arsenal. Been there since 1813 and turning out armament and the "Big Guns" for naval and shore defense.

 Wvlt_gun16 by Edmund, on Flickr

In my former occupation, a Millwright at GE, I worked on a pair of these 16"/45 Mk 5 guns that were removed from the battleship Colorado (BB-45) and modified for use as high-pressure sintering vessels.

GE in July 057 by Edmund, on Flickr

This photo, grainy as it is, shows one of the big 16s loaded on a pair of PRR F22 flat cars for transport. The gun barrels were made at Bethlehem Steel and sent here for finishing.

We had a couple snakes that used to live in the shed out back of my parents' house.  They did a decent job of keeping the mouse population down.  After the snakes died, the vermin population in the surrounding houses went way up.

MOH hates the spiders we get in the house.  I'd rather deal with them than bats.  We've had 4 or 5 bats in our house, though none recently *knock wood*.

I'd offer my take on taxes, but that would necessarily get us into politics, and we know what happens next.

Off to get ready for the arrival of my wife's new recliner in her reading room.  Later.

It's been one of those Saturdays.  I feel the body needs some rest.  Sometimes one of those loaf days is in demand..... I won't argue I will take it.

So a bad habit of mine about 10 years ago was collecting DVDs for my monster system I once had.  I don't know,  I think I still have it? must be down in storage.  Do you think if I dust it off it'll still work?

So I probably have over 1700 movies in my collection.  My friends call me Blockbuster,  they stop by and check one out sometimes.

It depends what kind of mood you're in.  I do not watch TV but I will watch a good movie........ I'm a depressed person unfortunately and need a little humor today....... this is my pic out of approximately 1700 today

If you don't have a copy,  I suggest you find one if you would like to laugh for the better part of two hours.

My wife and I went to Bradenton today for the Real Rail annual train show.

.

Had a great time. No awesome deals today, but I did not spend too much money either. I bought 12 pairs of Kadee trucks and a huge scrap box of leftovers from Vollmer and Kibri building kits.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, get the gang and I a Beer J.R. a glass of Cabernet and leave a Stein outside for Ulrich.

Went to K-10 Model Trains today and dropped off about 15 pieces of rolling stock I had no use for. While I was there I saw a lot of stuff I would have liked to have! Talked myself out of gorgeous stone passanger termial with 4 platforms bulit for $99.00. Saw a AB Pen F units, one with QSI sound, A was $89.99 and B was none sound for $39.99. I think they where over priced for being used but I liked them. I was thinking they where BLI engines but it turns out they where Old Protos, not sure if they where PK 1's or PK 2's.

Ed Running the heck out of the B&O SD 7 #784. The more I run it the better it runs! Big Smile I am close to getting the C&O observation car around the layout!
