TOP OF THE PAGE for a fully refreshed Tuesday morning! A tall glass of pure Florida Orange Juice for everyone. Also have a whole wheat English Muffin with crunchy style peanut butter. All on me!

Wise move. Drowsy driving is impaired driving. It can be as dangerous as DUI.

.

So true. I am getting old, and I do not take chances anymore. The $125.00 for the hotel room was a wise move. I slept for 12 hours, and now I feel so much better.

.

BigDaddy
Am I the only one who never heard of R Kelly or his music?

.

He broke out with a huge hit called "Bump and Grind" that did not receive much radio play down here, but it went to #1 nationally, I do not like it. The song "I Believe I Can Fly", which I am certain you have heard, is his most mainsteam recognizable song, but it is really not too memorable. I don't think it made it to #1, but it lingered in the charts forever. It was playing on in-store background music loops for years and years. You just could not avoid it.

.

He had a small group of other top ten songs, but as you mentioned, he was huge in R&B. A lot of his later stuff all sounds EXACTLY the same, like he was running albums off of a Xerox machine.

.

Harrison
The Adirondack diorama and associated project won first place at the history compitition, and now we are going to the state level!

.

Serious congratulations on your success. Way to go.

.

It looks very cold in all your pictures. Thank you for sharing, especially since the diner is in New York this month.

Once that is done, I put the wire into a piece of 3/32 shrink tube

If it were me, I think I'd be more inclined to use a brass tube.  The shrink tube sounds like a lot of friction developing over time.

Morning folks,

Going to get a stomach scan today, then I'm going suit shopping.

Kevin, yeah that's what happens when an artist is just after a "hit" they use someone else to write the songs and what you get is the same generic sound with no originality, the worst is when you like an artist and then they put out a new album and they changed their sound for the worst, this happened recently with a group I liked.

Well that's all from me.

Steve

Time to head off home. I had considered using brass tube but I'm cheap and the shrink tube in a bundle was really reasonable. The control only moves about a 1/4" so I think wear won't be an issue for a long time and the shrink tube also let me curve the wire around some obstacles. We use similar to line throttle cable housings and though they eventually wear it takes years of use to do so. Just my My 2 Cents.    J.R.

I used shring tubing here for its insulating properties since it would have contacted the rails I was passing the rod under. After several years I haven't noticed any problems. I wiped the rod down with molybdenum disulfide to give it a little slip.

This is dirty yard trackage under my Hulett unloaders.

Good afternoon from the West Coast where it got up to 11c today under blue skies. There is still snow on the ground as we had some more last night, however, it will be in the high teens near 70f by the end of the week. I have usually cut the grass a couple of times by now, it has been a weird Winter.

Heard from the kid that he got two of his midterms back and is at 98% in law and 96% in economics. In law, he had to sit and write six essays in one day. I often wonder if he's mine.WhistlingLaugh The wife says he looks so much like me, how could he be anyone else's. He said he is going out to buy a Switch video game console (whatever that is) to celebrate. He already has a Playstation with him.Indifferent

Knocked 2 minutes 56 seconds off my best time on the bike today. BP an hour after the ride was 109/69, HR-56. Pretty good for an old geezer.

Got My lighting for the RH all figured out. The lighting was holding me back on the layout as it was a new frontier for me and I was spending too much time dwelling on the matter and not enough time on making progress. That doesn't happen to me very often as I am always the guy that lights fires under people. Must be getting old.

Not driving when your tired is the smart thing to do. I would often go past being on 24 hours straight when I was working and at some point would have someone drive me around and sometimes drive me and my bike the 26km home. I was up for 56 hours straight once when I was traveling I ended up in Sydney and remember walking past a restaurant near the hotel and thought I would shower and change and go have a nice steak and bottle of Australian Cab Sav. Next thing I knew it was 0900hrs in the morning some 12 hours after I went to the hotel to get changed. At some point I had said to myself I'll just have a quick nap first.ZzzLaugh

My Sister just got back from the U.S. judging a dog show and giving seminars and is now off to Alaska to do the same for a few days. I feel I need to get on a plane and go somewhere. Next Winter we start traveling as both kids will be in University. It has been about seventeen years since the wife and I would just get on a plane and go somewhere, even if it was just Vegas for 4 or 5 days. This returned freedom will come as a shock. We are going to try and spend Christmas in Hawaii with the kids this year barring the wife's parent's health issues. I always felt so good coming home from Hawaii as all I would do is swim all day and live on fresh fruit.

Okay, boys, it's all downhill from here.

Chloe, a beer for my friend Ken and leave one out for Ulrich. I'll have the last ot that Pinot Noir I started yesterday. All y'all can belly up to the bar as well if you wish.

Brent,   you are off to the train room and I am back from. Got the rest of the track in place and it is setting up. All the approaches to the yards and turntable are now done and will be ready for wiring and proving by tomorrow.

Not much else to say just now but watching the restoration of Sierra Railroad 3 on the telly. Catch y'all later,   J.R.

For Cuda Ken,

Cody, (not Grivno) and I were out at the Dog Park this afternoon for a couple of hours and another fellow arrived with what I thought was your previous dog of a few years back.

It was an Irish Wolf Hound, about 18 months old, the same coloring that yours had. Cody is a cross between a Blue Heeler and a German Shepard and is a good sized animal but he had to borrow a ladder to smell the Irishman's Butt.  That is how big he was, I was amazed.

Gidday Chloe, a large glass of Kevin’s cold orange juice would go down a treat, thanks.

JR, I think I first came across those side loading container trucks in the early 90s. They were great, drive in, drop the container where we wanted it, then drive off again, the revere procedure once the container had been emptied, or vice versa. No faffing about waiting for a crane truck. I’m thinking it could have been Patchells you visited. Pity about the cost of bureaucracy!!
Yeah, those forestry roads are fun to hare around on, though most are now not open to the public, you don’t want to go hurtling around a corner, (sideways) and run into one of these coming the other way, at speed!!

Good to see you Ja Bear. You are correct it was Patchell Industries we visited. Overall I think they make the best most durable units.

Good morning . .... We returned from Nashville late last night. I-24 inbound is still closed from the mudslide two weeks ago. Shelley's Mom is status quo with diminished mental capabilities following her meningitus. Currently, she is in long term care.

....

Bret .... The line up of CP locomotives in BC is impressive.

JR and Bear ..... Interesting New Zealand photos.

Good Morning,

A nice sunny day here with about 32F for a temp. Mind you a major storm is supposed to hit south of us. Look out Ken from the reports I have seen.

My friend who had the heart attack is doing amazingly well and will likely be discharged from hospital on Monday.

We have been doing a major spring cleaning.

Time to get back at it.

Reminds of a laborer I worked with, he worked well passed his prime Indifferent  but anyway, as a kid, the street his folks live on back up to yard,  IIRC, it was off Lincoln Ave., Milw.

The C&NW parked coal trains there waiting to be taken to their destination,  he, and a few neighbor kids, all got together, and some would climb into the cars, while others on the ground picked it up and put in sacks.

Then they dragged the sacks through a path in the bushes, to their homes, all at the encouragement of the parents.  He said his dad always said, "their kids, what the .... are the bulls gonna do to a kid"

My son was supposed to fly to Denver today, but the flight was canceled because of snow.  He was booked to a flight tomorrow on a Boeing 737 Max.

A condo burned down in the gated community next door.  I heard a helicopter hovering over my house and looked out the door and saw the smoke.  There was a surprising amount of flame considering the fire department had been there a while, before I got there.  No one was injured.

My wife's sister had a breast biopsy last week and today found out it is cancer, second time around, different breast.

My friend that died on a South African motorcycle trip last week was going too fast.  His front wheel dug into soft sand and he was thrown from the bike, breaking his neck.  Three other riders were on the same road and did not crash; he was bringing up the rear.  The bike cartwheeled and broke at the swing arm; trailing truck for you train guys.

New York, huh?  Nice choice.  (But I'm biased... life-long Buffalonian here).

I remember as a kid taking my first train ride behind ARA #14.  So sad to see her today, even though 18 soldiers on, and has even been known to pull an occasional freight...

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HKB6MOkpIsY

Hoping to take my son this year for his first ride.  Meanwhile, I'm using the railroad as an inspiration for my layout, which will hopefully enter construction this year, funds allowing.

And since it's happy hour, this round's on me!

Evenin' Folks!

Been way too busy the last several day to post, but I have peeked in the door a few times to see what what going on...

Ah, Adam, last I checked, Buffalo is in New York State...  We are visiting the entire state not just the Big Apple...  In fact some of the finest Railroads and Railroad Buildings anywhere were in Buffalo, NY.  Unfortunately most are gone now.

I thought I would share some photos of my Favorite Short Line in the Great State of New York with all of you.  That, of course, would be the Finger Lakes Railway based right here in Geneva, NY, the heart of the Finger Lakes.  That would be one of the most beautiful places on Earth!  (Of course I am prejudiced about that.... Smile, Wink & Grin)

Most of the Motive Power on the FGLK is using the old NYC Paint Scheme to advantage.  (These photos were taken about 4 or 5 years ago by me.)

Some shots heading East from Geneva towards Syracuse, NY.

The line goes through Waterloo, NY and through Seneca Falls, NY the birthplace of the Women's Rights Movement...

Somewhere on my computer I have a file of photos from onboard one of their passenger runs to Syracuse to the Syracuse Train Show at the NYS Fairgrounds several years ago.  I will see if I can find those and put them up here.

Johnboy I would love to have another Irish Wolfhound! Gentle Gaints and very loving dogs. No intruder will break into your house if they hear a Wolfhoung bark! Smile, Wink & Grin

For folks that don't know the sizes of a Irish Wolfhound, they are bigger than Great Dane and is the largest dog in the world.

Henry God speed for your wife sister recovery from her cancer.

Ed Like the safty poster. Clive Cussler talked a lot about coal thief's, rail bulls and people picking up coal from rail lines in his Isaac Bell series.

(Bumps door open) Good Morning All,

Too early for a regular to go?  37F out there and I'm still messing with the trailer roof.

Half way down the page we were. Thanks Ken always appreciate a good glass of red when I'm done for the day.

Good to see Ray stop in. If you get to Key West you can enter the Hemingway look alike contest. Could be fun if you can get in.

Garry, you're Mil doesn't sound like she's doing well. Went through all that with my Mom two years ago and she ended up passing the day before Mothers Day after a year in and out of hospital. I have to say the care she got in hospital was top notch though you hear all these stories out of Canada, our families experience with the health system has been good.

Henry, hope your wife makes a full recovery.

Speaking of picking coal from the tracks,, legend has it that the hard coal used in locomotives could cause home stoves to overheat. Not sure it's true but.....

Not much done on the layout last night. Checked the tracks I routed to see if they were secure and left well enough alone. Not much ambition.

My trailer awaits. Time to pick up scrapers and screw guns and other implements of destruction.    Chow, J.R.

Good morning, everybody .

Ray ..... I like your photos of the FGLK locos. The NYC inspired paint scheme looks good on those engines.

Ken .... It sounds like you had a good day at work yesterday.

JR .... Sorry to learn about your Mom passing away 2 years ago. ... My Mom passed away 4 years ago. Prior to her death I made frequent trips to Alabama to visit with her. ... Shelley's Mom will not be able to live alone again, and Shelley's sisters in Nashville are cleaning out her house so eventually it can be sold. The family is hoping she will improve so she can move into assisted living. For now, she is in long term care.

I had a little time to work on tracks last night. My coal mine scene is taking a very long time for me to put together. Too many interuptions.

If you get to Key West you can enter the Hemingway look alike contest. Could be fun if you can get in.

Not if J.R., Tickets already purchased and starting to pack already.  Will be there for a few days the first weekend in April.  The excuse for me to visit is a concert my friend is singing in...  (I think she knows that is not the real reason, but,  that is my story and I'm sticking to it! Smile, Wink & Grin)  We may visit the Hemmingway House while I am there.  My son (in England) told me he has a friend that used to run Boat tours down there.  He was going to see if he could contact him and find out if he is still in business.  Need to check back in with son soon.

Ok some more photos of the FGLK for you.  This time a different paint scheme:

Leaving on a South Run from Geneva on the old NYC tracks going South along Seneca Lake from the Geneva Yard:

Going through the town of Himrod on it's way to Dundee and then to US Salt in Watkins Glen.

Nice day here in the Finger Lakes Region today.  Supposed to make it up into the 60's this afternoon.  Already been for a short morning walk in the neighborhood.
