Better: Get a good job that comes with a company provided cell phone, then you never have a cell phone bill.

I am going to have a bowl of oats for breakfast, not anything to talk about, but feel free to join me.

Pop quiz, what do you notice about the lower tracks?

The lower tracks belong to the Baltamore Trolley Museum, there are wires there, and one of the cars is resting on their sub-station. And yes, Baltomore traction is/was wide gague.

Yay!  I just booked tickets for the N&W 611 excursion in Strasburg.  I Would be liked to do the hostler tour, but getting me out of bed at 4 AM is problematic, at best.  The photo shoots were interesting, too, but the money tree isn't that full, plus I'm not a professional photographer.  Too bad none of the PRR engines at the Railroad Museum of Pennsyltucky are operational, but oh well.

I was in the Transportation Museum in North Carolina last year when 611 was getting shopped. That was amazing.

Interesting, are they going to tow it to PA?  An article in the Roanoke Times mentioned the Amtrak ban on private excursions.

Good afternoon, everyone!

Yeah, I got Kalmbach emails last night, too.  I'll just chalk it up to some bug.

It sure beats the robo-calls I get from CVS.  And, if I don't answer, I get a voice mail that says "CVS Pharmacy.". That's it.  No info.

I think NS and CSX own all the trackage except for some of the northeast corridor. Bet NS won't have any issue moving one of their heritage units. If no Amtrak equipment is involved, they shouldn't have any complaint. I do know it took a literal act of congress to get our two 44 tonners moved from Groton to Danbury. Once our congressperson got involved, all the no's turned to yes. J.R.

The trip to PA could be a money maker if it were a rail fan trip and the fuel and water issues could be solved.  Getting towed there is like a Harley rider getting his bike shipped to Sturgis, while he takes the plane.

I did not get any of the Kalmbach spam.  When I first joined I got Sky and Telescope emails and there was no way to unsubscribe because I was a non subscriber.  It took a phone call or email and I unsubscribed from everything.  Life must be good if your biggest issue requires you to start threads compaining about spam.

Good day, Folks!

How about our weekly Fox Movietone Newsreel? In 1927 the Hudsons were brand new! Watch the engineer ham it up at 6:40!

I hope everyone is doing well this weekend. It is cold, rainy and snowy here in NE Ohio area. I've been spending time with my model railroad hobby, of course Big Smile

Best wishes to all,

 Afternoon Diners!

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and JR a good glass of red wine. Plus leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Been MIA for a few days. Thursday the little blue wheel went around and a round. Friday after I paid bills and checked due dates and CC balances I just did not feel like posting.

Steven As you know you now have a credit score. I am sure you have heard of Credit Karma. Here is a link if by chances you have not.

                    https://www.creditkarma.com/

While the information sometimes lag a few months it will give you a idea where you stand credit wise. 35% of your credit score is your payment history. I am proud to say mine is 100%. Keep credit utlizaion below 30% of your avaiable credit. That is another 35% of your credit score. I am proud of my daughter, she has only used 3% of her credit limt off $85000.00. At age 16 I gave her own American Express card. My self, well stuff happens (thanks mainly becuse of my wife) and I am at 60.03%.

Yes I track it daily. I used a excel sheet on all my ceditors balances, spent daily, paid daily, checking account balance and intrest charges.

Income taxes are done. Bang Head First time in my life I owe the Fed's. Sigh It was sort of my wife's Market Places Health insurances fault. When we estimated my income in 2017 for the coming 2018 year I failed to include my SS I would recevive after March 2018. Whistling Luckily I have been having a extra $23.00 weekly with held so I only owe around $200.00 to the Feds.

And here I was hopping to pay off a small balances of a high intrest loan with the refund. Sigh

 Trains are running well.

 Later, Ken

Good Evening All,

Waiting for the internet to come back on as we just lost power. I will go ahead and finish this as the whole thing reloads (may take 5 minues). I was watching the end of the Sebring 12 hours which goes to 11pm so I'm not stressing. No trains today as I had chores to do so I can host the VSCCA board meeting tomorrow at the shop.

Ken, thanks, I'll have another Pinot Noir. Don't feel like the Lone Ranger on taxes. All the changes moved everything around and lots of people are not finding what they expected when filing.

Feed is back up, Catch y'all later.  J.R.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the words of wisdom and advice guys.

Brother Lion, I needed a smartphone that would be reliable and something I can use for a few years before replacing, my phone is also my computer, I use it for just about everything I can and use the computer at work if I cant do it on my phone.

I'm sending in an application to the Mariott in Baton Rouge, they're hiring part time front desk, finally got all the paperwork from HR at the Y, I filled it out and returned it the same day I got it from them, I'll be a front desk attendant, which is a nice job.

Went suit shopping again, found a perfect suit at Jos. A. Bank, on sale for under 300, trouble is the sale ends tomorrow and I don't get paid till the end of the week.

Finally got after that big coal gon I kitbashed, heres what I'm doing,

I took the entire underframe off the gon, I then spliced a 89 foot TOFC flat down to 76 foot, I'm going to file an angle onto the bottom ends of the vertical braces like the original underframes had and then glue it onto the TOFC flat, hopefully that'll give it the beefy look I was aiming for and itll run the layout alright.

Tomorrow is Saint Patrick's Day, my Irish heritage is being a 5th generation descedent of Irish immigrants that arrived in this country some time around 1920.

Well off to bed, night all!

Steve

...trouble is the sale ends tomorrow and I don't get paid till the end of the week.

Ask them if they will make a lay-away for you. Any respectable sales person would probably allow that and, in most cases, there is no extra fee, and no nasty interest.

Years ago it was a popular option and most stores honored it. Can't hurt to call and ask.

Good Luck, Ed

Mish Mosh is what my grandfather called this breakfast: bacon, soft boiled egg and cottage cheese.

Installed wipers on non conductive side of the turntable.  It was originally designed to transfer track power through the bearings that were used for bogie wheels.  For reasons unknown, the bearing did not conduct to the axle.

Did some more weathering, installed it and nothing.  Checked the the output, (using just a dc controller because there was no connection to anything else.)  Eventurally found one of the wires to the pit rail had broken.  Soldered a new one without causing major damage and it works.

Happy St Patricks Day.  There is a real Guinness Brewery in Baltimore and they were on the boob tube this morning advertising their party day today.  They will be offering some specially brewed beers featuring their oldest recipies ....dating back to the 1960's ?????  I have clothes older than that.

Hey guys,

Yes Ed I considered layaway, they didn't have it though so I asked them to hold the suit till next week, hopefully they'll have another sale.

I'm guessing beer isn't like whiskey, wine and such and doesn't get better with age right?

Didn't Budweiser do a prohibition recipe a while back?

Anyways, I'm at church now, when I get home I'm going to try to make some more progress on that coal gon, I won't be able to mount the trucks till Tuesday I've gotta get some longer screws, it appears they'll clear everything with a small shim, the top of the side frames usually hit on the underframe of the car, a shim prevents this and the truck sits level (the truck will sit angled if its hitting).

Well I'll be back later!

.

That is way too much money to spend on a cheap suit. You situation does not justify this kind of expense, especially since you are going to your prom solo. $300.00 is way too much to spend on a second rate suit that you will only wear a couple of times.

.

I have two good suits, then I have usually around 4-8 rotational suits of the Jos Banks/Mens Wearhouse variety. Paying more that $200.00 for an off-prime suit is not necessary. Shop around. Everything is always on sale in those stores.

.

Why are you going to prom the year after you graduated? Seriously, you are a working man with bills now, high school is over. I think it would be more appropriate just to go to an adult singles dance or hipster-speed-dating. Your chances will be much better at one of these places. The women are there to meet adult men, not hang with kids and remember the last four years.

.

Prom is a ceremony about becoming an adult and saying goodbye. How many people will you know there anyway? Weren't you home schooled? Are you trying to make up for all the social experiences you missed in a traditional high school in one night? That won't work.

.

Will the memory wall mean anything to you? Do you care who is king & queen? When the faculty addresses the crowd will you share any of the memories?

.

I don't understand.

The suit is by no means cheap, it was a very nice material, I need a suit for prom, a friend's wedding, and my sisters wedding, the prom I'm going to is actually a homeschoolers prom, so yeah, ya only live once!

Lay away?  Lay away?   Golllll E.  If he learned to budget, payed his bills on time, and saved the money he wastes at the junk yard trying to turn his latest broken down poop box into a 2X4 mobile, he'd have enough credit to get one of those little plastic cards that allow you to buy now and pay a couple weeks later.

Afternoon folks....

Maxman.....  hey, give the kid a break!  I would be willing to bet that you, unless you were born with the proverbial silver spoon in your mouth, took some time to learn a few lessons as well.  I sure know I did!  I was married and a Father at the age of 19.  I was also going to the most expensive Music College in the world then as well.  My wife was working full time for the phone company and I was working part time as a professional singer (section leader) for a church.  Summers I worked one year for a golf course and the next three summers as a summer grunt for the phone company.  I can remember times when the fuel oil bill came in counting pennies and then borrowing from the parents to be able to meet the cost.

We were living a an 8' x 36' 20 year old mobile home that was a dump, set across the road from my parents house who gave us electrical and water from the farm for it.  I went without lunch many times because the $$$ ran out before the month did.  It was a very tough time.  I have some idea what the kid is going through with his life at the moment.

Today I pay cash for everything!  When I bought the Chevy Volt, I paid cash for the car (minus the trade-in value and the rebate for it) and the car was $35,000 delivered.  I own my house outright, and pay off my credit card (from the credit union, the only financial institution I will do business with for what I consider moral and ethical reasons, not to be discussed here).  I haven't paid a cent in interest in over 20 years.  And I don't intend to as long as I have $$$ in my accounts.  Yes it took a lot of years to be able to get to that place, and I had to learn some tough lessons along the way.

My credit card has no interest as long as it is paid off in full every month before the due date.  I have learned how to make sure that is done each and every month.  If I can't pay cash for it......  I don't need it.  Steven is not in that position yet in his life.

$300 for a suit???  The last 4 suits (two 3 piece and 2 two piece) I bought were from Men's Wearhouse and set me back about $2,000 with discounts.  I like to wear nice and expensive clothes these days (see paragraph above).  Only reason I bought 4 suits is I lost enough weight to have the first two swim on me 9 months after I bought them......  I will be picking up two pair of dress pants for when I am out and about but don't need the suits, tomorrow.  Those set me back $263.  I have shelled out about $4,000 for new clothes in the past year and a half.  I don't know how the others on here do things and like to look, but I am enjoying the looks and smiles from the ladies I get when dressed well.  Steven might as well...  Ya think?  Only advise I have for the kid is to not share some of those parts of his growing up on here.  He probably knows by now that some on here are not very nice to young adults...Whistling

Two comments, for what it is worth.

  1. Blazer and slacks is an acceptable alternative in some situations, but it is not a replacement for a suit. A suit is a more formal option. Show up to a job interview wearing a blazer when the recommended dress is a suit and the chances are you will be disqualified.
  2. If you are going to get a blue blazer, go with either grey slacks for a dressy look or tan for a casual look. Never wear black slacks with a blue blazer. It looks like you got dressed in the dark and couldn't tell the difference in the closet.

Richard, excellent advise!  Always do your best to dress for the occassion.  One reason for me to spend the $$$ for the 3 piece suit is that three or four times a year I need to be wearing that for the occasion.  Generally that is when I am representing a couple of the community committes I am on.  That dress is pretty much is expected of me in those situations.  The 2 piece I use for church and other dressy occasions.  I have also been told not to bring a suit with me when I visit Key West in a couple weeks.  Nobody wears a suit to anything (including church) down there.  I would look completely out of place.  It is important to know what the occasion is and what should be expected for it for yourself.

Say what?  No, I was not born with a silver spoon.  I think it might have been wood.  And this is not a case of not being nice.  It is a case of calling it as I see it.  Sometimes there is a need for more tough love and less mollycoddling.

It is the world that can be not a nice place.

Young Steven seems to be a very mechanically adept individual, at least according to his exploits.  What he needs to do is get off his seat and at least apply to an automotive (or other) trade school if he has no interest in college.  That would be a carear path with more future opportunity than being a desk clerk or pool cleaner.
