RideOnRoadShow up to a job interview wearing a blazer when the recommended dress is a suit and the chances are you will be disqualified.
Unless the job position REQUIRES a suit or jacket, it is now pretty bad advice to show up for a job interview in long sleeves.
You can be sure that if you wear long sleeves the assumption will be that you are hiding offensive tattoo work.
Wear short sleeves and show off the arms. Let the interviewer know you are not an attitude problem.

Living the dream.
I don't have credit, checked credit karma, not bad credit but no score at all.
Also I'm attending college next spring, definitely not planning to be a Maintenance man or desk clerk for the rest of my life, my parents aren't exactly rich we make do.
We've all been in that borrowing from john to pay harry spots, instead of just telling me what not to do perhaps throw some positive advice my way.
Thanks for the kind words Ray!
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
NWP SWPperhaps throw some positive advice my way.
Go to a young adult singles event in Baton Rouge and meet someone.
Take that $300.00 you would spend on a suit and spend a couple of days in Pensacola during college spring break week.
maxmanAnd this is not a case of not being nice. It is a case of calling it as I see it. Sometimes there is a need for more tough love and less mollycoddling.

Oh... And for the first 4 years of my teaching carreer I worked on the Saturday Morning Garbage pick up runs at the Trailer Parks where I lived. That allowed us money to pay the lot rent and for us to squeeze by so my wife could be a stay at home mother. There are no jobs that are beneath our dignity to do if it is honest and needs to be done!

We'll get there sooner or later!
howmusI have also been told not to bring a suit with me when I visit Key West in a couple weeks.
Are you ready for Key West? I love it, but if you have any social hang-ups at all. it can be quite a shock.
I love the bars, I love the party, it is great! Have fun!
SeeYou190Are you ready for Key West? I love it, but if you have any social hang-ups at all.
I went to Provincetown in 1975 for my honeymoon. I didn't know. I ordered octopus but they were sold out. My bride was jealous that the waiter, dressed in a sailor suit, like something from the Village People liked me more than her. I have never had the courage to order octopus again.
I hear you have to cook it very briefly or a really long time. My son ate a live octopus in Korea, to impress some local woman. It was animal cruelty as far as I am concerned.

I doubt we will be doing the bar scene... I do plan to take the lady and her daughter and Son In Law out for dinner on Sunday after the concert. We are planning to visit Hemmingway House, some botanical garden's, possibly go out on a tour boat. I am waiting to hear back from my son in England as he knows someone who used to operate a tour boat. I am one of those, how should I say, straight but not narrow (minded) guys so even if we do some of the Bar Scene stuff I am pretty hard to shock..... (Even if I am am ordained Deacon. LOL) More likely we will sit on the couch and watch some movies and...... Well whatever. Nothing not Kosher, I'm sure.

Happy Saint Patrick Day diners!
Flo, give the gang and I a green and RJ a green glass of wine! Yep, leve a green stein outside for Ulrich.
It was all most a good day. Got some hard yard work out of the way and will be feeling some muscles I have not felt for a few years.
Trains are being real mean to me tonight!
1 Looks like the Mighty B&O F7a BBQ its decoder? Won't go into details now, I will save that for the DDC section.
2 The Mighty CB&Q F7's cannot pull rail spike? Same train it been dragging for sometime now. Made no changes to the train or rails. Need to check each engine and she what the problem is.
3 Was using a C&O RS2 and B&O GP7 to pull the CB&Q train. Then it stalled and by this point I don't care!
Steven Good to hear you don't have a credit score, so you have a good chances still to get a good one. Did you the chech recommended Credit Cards for you? More than likely it will be a secured credit card but it is a start!
Far as us old farts beating on you, well we are just jealous. There is more than likely no one here on the site over 55 that don't wish we your age!
Later, Ken
I hate Rust
Yeah, I might check out a speed dating thing in baton rouge, I'm still going to prom, and far as the Pensacola spring break stuff yeah probably not the best place to find a girl to go steady with, I could be wrong though.
Steven,
cudaken Far as us old farts beating on you, well we are just jealous. There is more than likely no one here on the site over 55 that don't wish we your age!
Ken is right! Sorry if I came on too strong.
I care about you buddy!

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
NWP SWPfar as the Pensacola spring break stuff yeah probably not the best place to find a girl to go steady with
You are too funny.
Hey Dave its alright, sometimes I need a little nudge in the right direction, I'm probably not going to bother arguing with the phone people and just start sending them like 100 bucks every other check to get it paid off.
Ken I'll take a look at secured credit cards, I want to start building my credit so when I'm making enough money to afford a car loan I can go get a nice used car and not worry about getting approved.
And Maxman, yes my truck is a clunker at times but like a tee shirt I saw about the Mets old stadium which read "I miss Shea! It was a dump... but it was our dump!" That's like my truck, it's old, loud, kinda slow at times, guzzles gas, the paint isn't exactly showroom, neither is the interior but it's still MY truck.

Hi Diners,
Brun Hilda, an Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.
Been away from the forum a bit. Aye, today was the day for wearing o' the green and all that. I hope everyone had a great day.
Speaking of, beer does expire with a shelf life of about 3-6 months, although sometimes that can be stretched a bit. Wine usually lasts around 5 years, and as near as I know, whiskey, etc. lasts indefinitely.
It would seem to me that a major question about suits is whether to wear a tie or not. Suits without ties has become something of a full blown fashion trend. Is Jos A Bank really regarded as a cheap suit? I have a couple and they've both worn pretty well.
Nothing MRR to report today.
i hope everyone's bracket does well.
Jim (with a nod to Mies Van Der Rohe)
Suits...? I don't own a suit.
I own one tie, and the last time I tried to put it on was back around 1979.
I won't be putting one on again.

I didn't say a new car Brent, something cheap probably a for sale by owner deal.

Steven! Well stated!
I have driven my share of clunkers! My beloved MGB went in and out of the clunker stage several times. I always found a way to fix it, at least up until the time that the wiring harness melted.
The important part is that I was never embarrassed to drive the six or eight used (well used in most cases) cars and trucks that I owned, nor did I ever apologize to anyone for what they were. As you said, they were MY cars and I took pride in the sometimes extreme ends that I went to to keep them on the road. I did spend too much money trying to keep a Caprice running but I loved driving the big boat. Go figure - MGB to Caprice! What does that say about my taste in cars?!? Probably nothing printable!
You will look back at your loud truck with fond memories. If you aren't a bit of a rebel you won't have any fun!
I do have to support Brent when he questions your borrowing money to buy a car. Put some money aside every month. Buy another car when you can pay for it outright.
Cheers!!
Good Morning All,
17F this morning. I'll have a regular to go and a warm blueberry bagel with creamcheese please Zoe.
Not much done with the layout this weekend though I did clean a bit and finished the booster and auto/reverse circuit breaker revamp. Next will be to wire up the service yard with drops and a buss wire.
Steven, to be a bit contrary, it can be useful to learn to handle a credit card and develop a good credit score. I paid cash for everything until I wanted to buy a house. This being pre Internet, all I had was history with one bank and my Navy Federal Credit Union. Fortunately I was able to get a house mortgage through the VA but otherwise, no one wanted to talk to us. The trick cash or credit is not to spend more than you can afford and by all means build up some cash reserves before you sign up for anything long term (and that includes women). See, no lecture just my and yes some of it might be do as I say not as I did.
All for now, I have paperwork waiting and then a generator set for the trailer.

Water Level Route but was in much better shape mechanically. Not a babe magnet for sure, but I had a reliable set of wheels with enough money left over to take out the babe that liked me for me. To quote one of my favorite movies: "You must choose. But choose wisely..."

PS Impressing yourself builds confidence. A confident person does not feel the need to impress others, it just happens by itself.

Way to go Steven!
Y not?
Good morning ....
We reurned from Nashville late last night. .... I-24 is now open with temprory lanes to get around the big mudslide of three weeks ago while they clean up the slide and rebuild the hillside. .... MIL is improving. She can get out of bed and get back in bed. Unfortuantely, she went across the hall and got in the bed in that room while that patient was in the bathroom. Yesterday, was the first time she remembered who my wife and I are, and she was talkative. So, she has imprived.
NWP SWP .... Sounds like good news for you. Congrats!
Everybody: ....Happy Model Railroading.

Glad to hear that your mother-in-law is improving Garry, and her memory coming back is good news as well.
cudaken. . .There is more than likely no one here on the site over 55 that don't wish we your age!. . .
There is at least one that has no desire to repeat the late teens/early twenties. Been there, done that, happy where I am.
Steven: As for cars and girls, find a young lady that likes you in spite of your car. When Mrs. ROR met me in 1982, I was driving a 1967 Dodge Dart. The engine was dependable but it had been around the block a few times. Mrs. ROR dated me, married me, we have 35+ years of happiness behind us and plenty more ahead. It's not the car--it's the man. (She did make me fix the heater before we got married.)

Congrats Steven, better bone up on your singing, I can see you singing and dancing behind the front counter now!

Happy Happy Joy Joy! Was able to do a hard decoder reset on the Mighty CB&Q b unit and problem is fixed! Thank goodness for Decoder Pro and JMRI soft ware! Have not given up yet on the Mighty B&O F7A yet. I think I have a extra QSI decoder that will fit it if I need it.
Richard Not quite buying what you are selling! If you could keep every materially, famiy and mentally you have now, you would not want to be 18 again?
Did a little backyard work today. THen wife came out to tell me how She wanted it done. So I left and paid some bills and bought and I sure most guys here understand. Why a wife that never touched a chain saw thinks she should tell me how to do it is beyond me?
Richard good to hear your mother inlaw is on the mend!
Trains are running just fine.
