Johnboy - Well I am honored that I am your 2000 post ! I still dont get it though. -53 degrees ??? That is insane cold ! Heck I might be faced with a tornado once every five years and hurricane about the same. None of which in my area are usually strong enough to relocate me into the next zip code. Maybe blow some siding and shingles off but that is about it here, BUT the cold up north is what 6 months long and everyday. brrrrrr makes me shiver thinking about it ! Plus I like snow for a few days and then I ready for it to go away.
Garry - Wow I am so glad you joined me ! Some great company ! I tell you I wish you lived closer, from your photos I could learn a thing or two from you. Great looking work ! WOW !
Andel - OH I get it now. Sometimes I am a little slow on the uptake.
Welp the ole phone is ringing - again ! Gotta run

Back from four days in Idaho visiting the grandkids. My son has 6 kids and the oldest is 8. (Yup, you read that right, and it includes a pair of two-year-old twins.) They are some of the best behaved kids I have seen. They almost always do their chores without having to asked twice, and they have a number of chores. They have chickens and rabbits that need to be tended to every day. My son is a good kid, but his wife is a saint. I left Mrs. ROR up in Idaho to help out for a week. My son is in the MBA program at Utah State and is gone four days a week. (Remember, his wife is a saint.)
My time at home is short-lived. I got back last night about 6:30 and am headed to the airport to go to Dallas for work in about an hour. Wahoo. Needless to say nothing on the train front at the moment.

Evenin' Folks!
Janie, I could use a cup of decaf coffee, please.... I'll go sit in the back booth for a while.
Been busy all day trying to get caught up with the NMRA Meet stuff and start on the newsletter that needs to go out very, very soon. Sun was out most of the day, but the temp never got above 65°F. Quite normal for October around here. Tonight it will go down to about 45°F. Went right from Air Conditioner to Furnace this year.....
Talked to me son last night and today. Oldest Granddaughter won a local (Waterloo) Fireman's Art Contest for her age group. So this morning after all the busses had pulled in to unload at her Elementary School a Firetruck showed up with all it's lights flashing. They were bringing my Granddaughter to School!!! She got to get off and walk into school in front of all the other kids escourted by a fireman in dress uniform..... I guess she had a great time and was "Hero for the day!" The younger Granddaughter also found out today that she was picked as one of 20 Second Graders (out of a couple hundred) that will singing a song for the Superintendent of Schools at some big shindig in the Middle School Auditorium next Monday, so she had an exciting day too. I am planning on attending that!
Train front.... I'm checking out plans and specs for the bridge. This will be the largest scratchbuild project I have attempted. Glad I have made a couple smaller bridges as practice for some of what this one will embrace. Before attempting this, I plan to finish most all of the town on the new area. I will also be building a frieght house in HO based on drawings of the Freight House in Naples, NY. That was an end of the line location for the Lehigh Valley back in the day. Need to also find plans for a small Passenger Station to be there as well. Did some odds and ends tonight on the area tonight.
Hope you all have a great night. Prayers for all in need!

Flo, I will have a please, let Ed have one on my tab as well.
Well the letter between F and H stopped workin- on the keyboard!
Work Front Should have taken a en-ine to work today. Had one custmer all day and she stayed a whole 2 minutes? Yep, I was busy!
YGW (G just became un-stuck) I would not mind snow 12 months a year. I don't mind driving in it, it is pretty and the biggest reason? The Dang Grass Does Not Grow! Far as the bigger hammer thing, been there and done that with cars!
GP 7 Front This time around I am looking at the problem a little drifferently. I have been trying to places the LED's in the locations where the light bulbs where. I think this is the same chassis they used on the Short Hood GP-30's. Well, the GP 7 is a long hood engine and there is no reason to try to cram them in the same spot!
Ed The Penn SD 7 has a rice bulbs, the Bessemer has what looks like the stock PK bulbs. So what is dropping the voltage? Thinking about teaming up the Bessemer SD 7 with a Rio Grand SD 9. That way I can haul some real freight!
I will add, the B&O F7's are running great! If it is Wednesday I will make the time for some phots.
Later, Ken

Political Posts! ???
We have political posts on the route of the BroadwayLION. It is a big political rhubarb everytime we put in another post to hold up a fence or a mile marker. You want to stay away from those NIMBYS.

yougottawantaHowmus How do you apply for your certs ?????? Do you submit at any NMRA Meet or at the conventions ?
Sorry.... I was going to answer you yesterday and didn't remember when I posted..... You can find a wealth of information here: http://www.nmra.org/education/achievement-program
Simple answer is that "Merit Awards" for models can be done several ways. You can take the model to a Division Meet, Regional Convention, or to the National Convention and get it "Judged" for the program, or have it evaluated at your home or club by the local AP chair and his assistants. In either case you have to earn 87.5 points (out of 125) to have a model qualify for the merit award. Each of the Certificates may require several Merit Awards to complete. There is considerable paperwork which is turned into the Division AP Chair who forwards to the Region AP Manager. It is checked and verified there and then forwarded to the National AP Chairman who reviews the documents and verifies that the Requirements for the Certificate have been properly completed. Then they send you a nice piece of paper that says "Ya Did Good!" Once you have earned 7 Certificates with at least one in each of the four areas (Model Railroad Equipment, Settings, Engineering and Operations, and Service to the Hobby), you fill out some more forms, get them checked by all that need to do that, and you will earn Master Model Railroader. I can guaruntee that you will have learned a great deal about the hobby and railroading through this process. As I said, I have two more certificates to go before I can apply for MMR. It's a goal I hope I will reach some day! Oh, and yes, you have to be an NMRA member to work the program....
yougottawanta Steve - welcome back. Could you look at my post on power needs for Hobby room and give me your 2 cents worth of thought it would be appreciated.
Thanks for the WB. I looked at the other thread, and it looks like you've got a lot of knowledgable people answering you already. I have nothing to add.
Good Evening,
It is currently a balmy 37F here and that was the high today. It is accompanied by a strong NW wind too.
YGW, you asked about construction here in the winter. Yes it is done 12 months of the year, houses too. They wrap the framed house in plastic and then work on it from the inside. Heaters are used sometimes. Mostly the trades people just dress warmly. Dressing for the weather makes all the difference. I have an old down filled parka and I can stand outside at -40 and not feel any cold. Mind you it was made here by people who understood cold. Sadly most of our coats are now made offshore and they aren't very warm.
Well time to heat up the leftover Chinese food we had last night. As usual we ordered way too much so will be eating it for several days. I don't mind as it is very good.
I did make it to the gym today and walked 2 miles. It is the first time I have been there for a while but must get back into the routine.

Steven OtteI was off for a few days. Now that I'm back and have removed the political posts Angry, ask away.
Steve If it was my post where I used the word the election word I am sorry. I thought it was a inacent remark but maybe I was wrong.
Day off I felt so so. Did some earliy morning running and got home at 10:20 AM. Tried to take a nap but that was a no go. Got the kitchen sink unclogged (full of wifes hair and it was nasty) and that was the main goal for the day!
More running, went to the bank, dumped the trash, got Sparkie The Rocket Dog Ear Infection Med, bought some food and bought 3 soft shell taco's for the wife.
Railroad Front Got my PK1000 C&O RS2 cleared from the RIP track! Great little engine. All so got a C&O caboose and track cleaning car on the rails. Working the Bessemer SD 7 a little harder pulling 15 cars. Think I may install a Digitrax DH 166 in her?
Well, Chile is done, time to cook the Beef Buritos and the refried beans! Yep, don't want to sit with me Thursday!
Ken
Good evening all.
Steve - Welcome back. Hope it was an enjoyable vacation.
Zoe - Any of those cinnamon rolls left? Great! One, with a glass of milk please. Thanks! Make sure Steve had one as well.
W**k - Don't get me started! Been a really rough week! Best employee quit, corporate has been a pain, and grumpy people out the wazoo.... Did I mention that the freight deliveries have us packed to the ceiling? Ugh.... If I mention that, that just might get me started.....
Weather - Cooler, frosted Tues. morning, slightly warmer now. Supposed to get back close to 70 tomorrow.
Trains - Fostoria trip was good, but slow. Only saw 8 trains in 3.5 hours and there were 3 groups of 2 at once... and one of them blocked another... So we went to the Mad river & NKP museum. Afterwards went to Cleveland for dinner, then came home. Started working on my new (old, but new to me) BB SD40-2, tested the motor, and it is a awesome candidate for DCC, have the hardwiring completed to the motor, and new motor mounts installed, will be installing LED lighting, and need to hardwire the power pickups in. I will (eventually) be installing operating ditch lights, using SMD Chip LED's. It will not have sound, as I do not have a sound decoder and speaker(s) available right now. (Eventually might get sound using sugarcube speakers. Unknown right now...) The new motor mounts got interesting. I picked up a pack of the new, screw mounts. 2-56 screws fit the mounts perfectly, but not the chassis... They slide right through. So, got a set of metal washers, then used Kadee fiber washers to cover and insulate the screw heads. It works.
Hope all are well, and have a good night!

*creeeeak* Hey, where is everybody? *brushes away cobwebs* Oh, I see, the staff has been redecorating for Halloween. Yes, very nice, Zoe. I'll just have some bacon and eggs.
Oh, it's all Halloween-themed, is it? Well, how about...
Those are pretty cute, actually. But I think I'll just have some pancakes.
I give up.
cudaken Steve If it was my post where I used the word the election word I am sorry. I thought it was a inacent remark but maybe I was wrong.
The posts themselves didn't contain anything objectionable, but if we let someone broach the subject of politics at all, even innocently, other people are going to wonder why they aren't allowed to reply with something more specific. Best solution is to not allow mention of politics at all. That way, there are no questionable judgment calls.
I come here to escape politics. You need to turn the TV on with a stick and gloves.
Headed toward SC this weekend. The Media has lost all interest in Matthew. About 40 miles of I-95 is closed and expected to remain closed for another week in NC, which got hit the hardest. "Spoke" to a friend on facebook, who used to live in Goldsboro, the SE part of NC. Yesterday she said she had "friends losing their homes as we speak" 20 people died in NC nearly all from driving into standing water. the Nuese river isn't suposed to crest until Saturday. Eastern NC is pretty darn flat. for those who are suffering.

Flo, could I get a roast beef omlette, peeper jack cheese and a toasted cinnamon-raisin bagel? (Yes, I'm in the mood for breakfast for lunch.)
Hobby Front: Got new super glue so hopefully I can get the other two crossings built on the layout on Sunday. The new engine house is coming along. Managed to find a couple of packages of the Walthers Modulars Wall Columns & Caps. Ended up with enough pieces that I might be able to build a few more buildings. (I did have to KB the front for the engine house door. I am using pieces from 4 different wall panels, a couple of spare straight roof trim sections, and a pair of roll up doors. It has been and will be an interesting process.)
I'm also managing to find parts for my SD45 project: an additional set of handrails and what appears to be the correct detail part for the noselight.
Later this week I should also get what Mom let me buy for my birthday (She asked what I wanted, I told her and she gave me permission): a couple packages of tree armatures, a load for a gondola car and a few pieces of track. (For the longest time, she made the rule that she wouldn't get me railroad stuff for my birthday. She finally backed down on that as that's usually the only thing that I want.)
Good Morning,
Been busy studing for my History 17 Midterm so I haven't really been on here.
The Midterm;
8 short answers and 1 essay question, you must purchase a green exam booklet from the college book store and bring it with you on the day of the exam, students may bring any hand written notes or thier spiral notebooks to use on the exam, however, photocopied powerpoint slides, the textbook, writing in the exam booklet, and the use of electronic devices will not be permitted.
Short answers (list of 35-40, pick 8 to write) (roughly 1-2 paragraphs) (10 points each).
Essay (5 essay prompts, pick 1 to write) (as much as you can), "the more you write the better". (70 points)
I've been pre-writing a couple of the shorts I think will be on the exam as well as an essay question. That way, I can just plug the answers in from my notes.
I'm doing the essay first, the short answers second.
This version of a midterm seems better vs answering 100 multiple choice questions on a scantron and doing it from memory.
What do you guys think?
Afternoon all.
Flo, RBF please. Thanks.
Weather - Much cooler than last forecasted, struggling to hit 60. Weekend is supposed to be 70's, we shall see.
W**k - Visiting managers from nearby stores, to assist with freight and "other issues" per our DM.
Trains - Still working on the SD40-2, got a set of ditchlight castings to add on, and will light them using chip style SMD LED's. Will wire them in along with headlights and reverse lights, but control them separately. Might add in controllable number board lights as well.
ATSFGuy photocopied powerpoint slides, the textbook, writing in the exam booklet, and the use of electronic devices will not be prohibited.
photocopied powerpoint slides, the textbook, writing in the exam booklet, and the use of electronic devices will not be prohibited.
Not to offend, but I think you meant to say that it is prohibited, or "not be permitted."
Yes, I would prefer notes on 8 short answers and one essay over 80+ multiple choice questions. That would be a little easier to handle.
Off hand, I have broken one of those rules before... That of not writing in the exam booklet, or rather, on the exam papers. My high school's drivers Ed class, final exam, one of the questions, no joke, was this: "Your car stalls on the tracks, and there is no train coming. Do you: A:-Run towards the train, Or, B: Run away from the train?"
I circled the question, placed my initials in the circle, and wrote, on my answer sheet: "In the absence of a train, I would, C - Push the car off the tracks. If there was a train coming, you should, A - Run towards the train, but off of the tracks, to avoid any flying debris from what is left of your crushed car..."
My teacher was not happy that I had broken the rule of not writing on the exam papers. When I was confronted over it, my only response, was to read the question I had flagged by circling it, with a on my face.
My teacher, very sheepishly, replied: "Never mind breaking the rule, and, your answer was correct." I would hope I got it right!
Of course, the teacher was fortunate that I did not burst out laughing after reading the question!
Hope all enjoy the day, and that all are well.
Good afternoon
Root Beer Please
Been a loooong day at the job but almost over. Too rainy to paint outside so time for some basement cleanup, train sorting etc...
Ooooch ouch, Long day, been beat up at w**k. Will talk ya'll tonight or tomorrow. Heading West into the sunset...
Qoute of the day and history lesson : Nathan Hale - 'I only regret I have but one life to lose for my country" Sept 22 1776. Hung by order of Howe
Convicted of spying for General Washington and betrayed by his own cousin. He was a school teacher by trade.
rickstrains4842,
Regarding your drivers exam, that is a priceless story! thanks for sharing it.
Flo I will have a please. No Flo I am not buying Ed a beer, I am mad at him! OK, it was my fault so give him a if he makes it in, but it is still his fault!
Day Off. Did work on the layout some and got some re-wing done. Should have the turnout motors back on line in the next day or so. Paid some bills, drop by Hanger Clinic to get my shoes refitted for the 4th time. (left foot not looking good at all) Dropped a book off at the Library and stopped in at K-10 Model Trains. With my luck, Hanger Clinic, Library and K-10 Model Trains are all with in 600 feet from each other!
It was Ed's fault! Stopped in K-10 just to buy a pack of Kadee #5's and a set of PK 2000 wheels. Went to look at the Walthers Proto 2000 Warbonnet F7s I keep talking my self out of. What is sitting on top of them? Walthers Proto 2000 Bessemer SD 7's with sound! I just got the Bessemer Ed sent me running this week, so last week I did not really recongnise what the SD 7's where! My bill should have been $14.00 bill went to $178.00 becaused Ed has me hooked now on Bessemer SD's! Price did seem good at $149.00 so I took it home.
First Tsunami decoder but don't know if I really like it yet. Only time will tell.
Train Poor Ken Posting Again.
Zoe, a slice of the pie of the day, whichever that maybe. What's that? Pumpkin? Ok! Of course, whipped cream on it. A glass of cider to go with it? Awesome! Yes, please! Thanks. Make sure Ken gets some cider as well. Make his hard cider though...
Actually, give me the hard cider, Ken the regular cider....
Okay, fine, Ken can have whichever style cider he would like. Or, if he would like, another . Yes, I will still take a hard cider. Thanks.
Trains - Lesson learned.... Always do decoder installation under the same lighting.... I did the SD40-2 under different lighting than normal. Mixed the grey and white wires...
No LED's were harmed. I found it just before I placed it on my programming track.... And that is always before I install lights, to ensure the motor is wired correctly. Hense, no, the shell was not installed yet. Therefore allowing me to see that the actual grey wire was loose. I first couldn't understand how it had become disconnected, as I had securely soldered it to the motor contacts. (Of course, I had done that with the contacts disconnected from the motor.)
Last time I do a decoder install in my living room.
To quote another Simpson, this time Homer, "D'oh!"
Zoe, that cider is delicious! What's that? Oh, yes, the pie is great as well, thanks!
Good night all.
Morning all
Hope to leave early today. Been w**king 10 to 11 hours daily. Promises to be a regular day with no drama - but it is early yet
Ricky W - Duron paints ( now Sherwin Williams ) used to have a light display in there show room that had showed the same color under different lights and it was AMAZING how the colors looked different under the different lights
Ken - What the HECK is that SMELL around here someone eat something rotten ??? I think I know what your problem at the train store is, it is caled " wannahaveitnow" It is known to have advers affects on all train hobbist and usually results in seperating their wallets from the green stuff that is sometimes found there. The only known cures are Death, Knock in the head resulting in a change of hobbies such as rose growing or simply being locked out of LHS or online stores !
Moelarry = Here have DDRP on me. how are you "train sorting" ? I actually like to go through my train stuff and sort it out. What in the world are you doing with a "reel to reel" ?
ATSF - What is scantrons ?
FRRYKids - I have the same problem with my family. I keep telling them the same thing "train stuff" I even give them list, I invariably get ties, socks etc...
Richard/Steve - I doubt I will ever eat breakfast again ! Oh I am feeling sick
Henry - I can never figure out when people have so much advance warning that they still get killed. Just amazing. Me if they say hey you are gonna flood deep. I am in my boat with paddles heading for higher ground !
Garry - Have a safe trip
CN Charlie - It must be tuff working with bundles of clothing on. I have worked in 0 degree weather and we had a TERRIBLE time keeping our air guns, compressors working in low temps. Seemed like something was always snapping or freezing or due to the cold weather.
Howmus - thanks I thought they could only be submitted at conventions
Lion we have a BUNCH of those NIMBYS. I have lived in my area all my life. I am always amazed when someone who has only lived here ten or fifteen years trys to tell the rest of us what we can and cant do with our land.
Qoute and history for today :
Patrick Henry Lee 1736 -1799
Our brethern are already in the field! Why stand we here idle !?...What would you have ? Is life so dear. or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of slavery ? Forbid it almight God!!! I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me LIBERTY or give me DEATH!
Henrys calls to arm was given on March 23, 1775 during the second Virginia convention at St. Johns Church in Richmond Va. ( so much for the lie of seperation of church and state) Thomas Jefferson later wrote "It is not easy to say what we should have done without Patrick Henry...He was before us all in maintaining the spirit of the Revolution"
Have a good day
