Afternoon Diners,
cudaken angelob6660 I finally tested my CR 8-40CW #6060. She ran very well and fast on DCC on knob 4. How come locomotives power has to be cracked up at 4 -6 speed just to get it rolling. Angelob6660 If it is a sound DCC engine it takes that much power to get the sound decoder going. If it is none sound you can fiddle with the CV's. (think you can with sound decoders as well) CV 2 is one of the CV's that will help. That is the starting voltage. There is all so a Kick Start CV. (pumps just a small burst to get the motor going) I don't recall that CV but I am sure there is help here at the site.

No, it's not a sound equipped locomotive. I haven't touched the CVs yet, but I tried renumbering them in which gives me an error.
Hey Galaxy, it's nice to hear from you. Too bad about your relationship, and medical status.

Afternoon Diners
Flo, I will have a and give Ed one if he makes it in.
Galaxy Glad you made it in! I am am impressed by what you have got done. Both on the house and other matters. Maybe you and YOH should join a club.
Day Off While I felt a tad better today, I still wasted it. Got my shoes re-fitted by a young lady. Boy she was cute! To bad I am 60 and married. If I was single and in my 20's or 30's again, well lets just say I would be busy right now!
Did some other running, dumped the trash, paid the water bill and bought beer.
K-10 Model Trains. Picked up anothet pack of PK 2000 wheels and Kadee #5 couplers. I did leave the B&O E-7 PK 2000 behind. But till I get some engines off the RIP Track why buy more? On the other hand, the PK 2000 Santa Fe F3 A B with sound is still calling me even now! Only $329.00! Did I just post only $329.00? I remember when I swore I never spend over $65.00 on a engine.

Glad to see so many regulars here : ) took the day off. Finally got the barn with train room submitted to the county should have a permit ( I hope ) in two weeks. Then I will set up excavation and start pouring concrete ftgs and walls. It will be 50'+ x 24'. With the train room 24'x 24'.
Took my son to the NRA museum in Fairfax Va. It was a great visit ! It was free, I got to see Annie Oakley guns, a black powder gun that came over on the Mayflower, John Waynes movie guns he used in Rio Lobo, Stage coach and so much more. We had a great time together.

So I just got done reading a "creepy clown" news story on Reuters and I come here a get this.
Hello, Fellow Diners...
Just stepped in for a quick appetizer— perhaps some watermelon rinds wrapped in bacon! One of the favorites that were served in private cars. Maybe a Long Island (Railroad) Iced tea? Thanks, Chloe
Ken, that water bill includes a charge for sewer, too? Seems ironic that you have to pay for beer, then pay again to flush the toilet! 'Ya just can't win!
YGW, that museum sounds like fun. Not long ago I watched some documentaries featuring great inventors. (The Men Who Built America?) The episode on Colt and Winchester featured some scenes with Ashley Hlebinsky from the Cody Museum of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. That might be worth a visit! Miss Hlebinsky held my attention quite well.

Creepy clowns have been in several news stories here in NE Ohio, too. In one very recent case two sixth grade girls were going through neighborhoods late at night. Police were called and finally located them. Can you imagine the risks that this kind of behavior is creating? Apparently the impetus for much of this activity (and that Pokemon stuff) is to create a buzz on "social media"
So...
I'm thinking of hatching a plan!
Since this is the diner and we have recently been visited by Chef Ryan, I wondered if it would be acceptable to share a few recipes and dining car information from a book that I have in my collection. It was given to me by a retired Pennsylvania Railroad chef, Big Daddy Perry, whom I worked with on a private car back in the 1970s.
If it doesn't violate any forum etiquette and you folks would enjoy seeing a few railroad recipes, I thought I'd post one or two each week. Any comments, suggestions or criticisms welcome.
I enjoy reading about the presentation and all of the regulations that accompany the same.
Here is the introduction:
And seeing that most of the Northern Hemisphere is entering cooler weather I picked a recipe for black bean soup as a starter.
IF this turns out to be a dud... let me know! Otherwise, if it's OK with everyone, I'll post a few more for the diner patrons to try at home.

Hulett #4 progresses, slowly.
I have been vexed by my DCC "Power Shield" breakers that refuse to reset once they trip. I have researched options and the solution was supposed to be to add a N-C switch between jumper 3 & 4 which makes it a manual reset. Well, that doesn't seem to have any effect.
What I'm doing tonight is dividing some of the power districts into smaller chunks so that there are fewer sound engines and lighted cars in any one district.
Hopefully, that will make resets a little more reliable.
Thoughts and prayers to all, especially anyone in the potential danger of the Hurricane Matthew! Great to hear from you again, Galaxy!

Charlie isn't scared of desert frogs. Sadly he doesn't know that their poisonous when eaten. I wished dogs were a little smarter when you tell them no, carried them away, and stop that. Don't worry he didn't eat it, he just chased it a few yards in the back.
I opened a post about AAR railroad codes on two trains.
Plus I'm with Ed on buying trains. And you're right Gary that is Spam.

I'd like to meet Anna Liljeberg in a dark alley!
We get calls every few days from a supposed duct cleaning service. Its been happening literally for years. We are now past the point of cursing into the phone. What we do is start to ask questions about things like the company address and phone number, what type of equipment they are using, are they insured etc. etc. They get totally flustered because they can't answer the questions since I don't think they actually exist. Its fun getting them to hang up on us for a change! Makes the calls much less annoying. One of these days I'm going to play them along to see if they will ask for a credit card number over the phone. I suspect that's what they are after.
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Ed:
Interesting to see the recipies. They sound good. I noted the reference under the black bean soup to the original chef at The Coach House in New York. Whoever wrote the manual was at least trying to engage the cooks on board the trains.
Good Morning all,
Back from a short few days off from work. Things have finally calmed down.
spent yest evening changing spark plugs and wires on the wife's car. Realized I had not chnaged plugs for 150K! ( it was running fine why bother). well the plugs had rusted to the head. I had to spray some pent oil in the plug wells, they popped right out afther that. I was lucky I did not strip the threads out.
Garry: I have not been to Classic trains yet I was told he moved across the highway next to Hank Bros. I will have to go check it out.
Be safe all.
Flo just coffee. The railroad recipe with eggs and shells just put me off eggs today.
The NRA museum is on the bucket list. The 90 minute drive for me around D.C. is the deal breaker. The passing lane on the Beltway is populated with the slowest cars on they road. There are 5 museums in Cody, WY Winchester, Native American, Buffalo Bill, Western Art and Natural History. You need at least 2 days
Duct cleaning. These trolls calling are getting worse. They call 6 days a week now from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. They can spoof any name and number they want, even my own. I read yesterday that India bustex a small group of the IRS scammers. 9 guys making $150,000 each. Having just turned 65, I am bombarded by Medicare insurance sales people, or identity theives, not sure which. Medicare forbids cold calls but that doesn't do any more than the DNC (do not call for out world members) list.
The local news said that BG&E was going to send 150 trucks to Florida but their power company said don't bother the damage isn't that bad. Then the national news says there are 1 million people without power???
On the trainfront, I have track layed on the long end of a 2 piece module L-shape. I'm considering just making it a straight run. There's nothing on the short leg of the L, it's not even attached yet. I can't figure out how to add 5' to the left on SCARM. It only wants to give me 4' of space.

If I do not see a name on the call screen, like my kids etc, the call never gets answered. If it is important leave a message, otherwise you are out of luck.
Howdy ...
Ed .... The UP Dining Car manual look interesting... I have a copy of a book with recipes for dining cars of various railroads. I have tried some of them, and the results were very good. I did have to adjust quantities because we don't normlly feed 50 to 100 people. ... LOL ... Also, I look at the photos in the book of the famous name trains of the pre-Amtrak era and feel sad. The USA had the best passenger trains in the world in the 1950's. Today's young people do not know what they are missing.
MoeLarryCurley ... If you get to Classic Trains, you may tell Bill I said hello.
Speaking of Bill. He sometimes calls his business "Classic Trains and Ferraris" ... In the photo below he visited the three model railroad layouts here at the lake a few years ago in his Ferrari. .... (From left to right .... Bill, myself, Dan, Gus) ... Each of the three of us has a house on the lake with a model train layout.
I don't answer either. it is my phone and they can leave a message if it is important.
I even ignore comcast cable and att.

I got me one of these: https://www.cprcallblocker.com/
Phone rings, i don't know whjo is calling, I type the number into Firefox and find out. if it is listed in the problem call sites, I simply reach over and push the little red stop sign that says "Block Now". They are now gone and won't bother me again........ They switch numbers, they get blocked again... I now have 130 numbers blocked! Years ago I used to use a portable air horn on them, but that doesn't work now that the calls are done by message robots. the ones that used to ask for the woman of the house, I used to just say, "I'm sorry she doesn't live here anymore" and give them the lot number at the cemetary for them to send her a letter...... they get more sophisticated, we have to get more sofisticated!!!
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I looked at the lunch and dinner menu but found out what some of the ingrediants were, so I'll stick with breakfast. I'll have the usual #2 special again this morning and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee with it....
Will be heading out to camp around lunch time to switch out the old amp with the new one. I sure hope that solves the problem out there and the system will do the camporee with no problem!
Sun is out today, but tomorrow calls for rain almost all day. that of course means I will be standing in the pouring rain helping people on and off the NYC Empire Express cars for ther Fall Foliage trips. We are completely sold out, BTW. Hoping it will be a great day. Have to move my name tag to my good black suit coat for the day.... Did get an umbrella out to use and will have my winter long black coat as well.... today will get upo to 78°F this afternoon but tomorrow says the high will be 64°F.
Have a great and safe day out there....

A lot of the numbers I have saved on my phone are numbers that I do not want to talk to like the ex. I also do a lot more texting than talking on my phone.
Good morning all!
Zoe, the breakfast platter, scrambled eggs, although not RR style, so skip the shells, bacon, flapjacks, homefries, wheat toast, and OJ please. Thanks.
Garry - When you go for the juggler, do you go after what he/she is juggling? Or, fake a move at them, and get them to throw what they are juggling at you, and duck so they take out the other clowns?
YGW - I don't really know what was setting of the alarms, just felt it odd that 4 different locations all had a monitored alarm give a false reading, all within an hour of each other... Maybe those clowns Garry mentioned did something.......
Weather - Warm and sunny today.
W**k - Water advisory lifted this morning, which is good. Trouble is, there is now yet another leak, and the reservoir itself also now is leaking. The cause of the whole issue? The city took over fire hydrant flushing from the FD, and was doing it this way: Turn on full force, wait for water to run clear, shut off flow immediately after it turns clear. And shutting it off just like you would your kitchen faucet, fast and all the way immediately. WHOOPS!
Trains - Making a trip to Fostoria tomorrow, should be nice. Forecast is sunny, but seasonably cool, with highs around 65 for Fostoria tomorrow.
Hope all are well, and enjoy the day!

At the risk of getting my hand slapped, there is a great firearm museum in the old Union Station Building in Ogden, Utah--the John M. Browning Firearms Musuem. What makes this even more fun, is that the station actually houses four museums and two galleries, and the cost of admission to everything is only $15. The four museums are--
Additionally, they have a number of trains outside the museum, including a UP gas-turbine engine. Well worth the visit, if you are out that way.

Hello folks! I'll have a DDP, please.
It's been a bad couple days...a lot of pain, discomfort and feeling drained.
On the train front, I mentioned to my wife that I wanted to move two small storage cabinets to make a spot for my little train table. She heard "please rearrange half of this level of the house". So until she's done doiing as she will, there is no telling how much layout space I'll have.
yougottawanta ZandOz - Can you do a shelf layout maybe in N scale ? Or maybe even Z scale ?
ZandOz - Can you do a shelf layout maybe in N scale ? Or maybe even Z scale ?
I've never been able to wrap my brain around the idea of a shelf switching layout. My main interest is continious running...with a little switching thrown in for change of pace.
What ever layout I end up attempting it will be Unitrack N scale. I have enough Unitrack to at least do the 10'x7' dogbone layout I was last planning on...and close to enough to do the 18'x14' around the walls layout I had started before the last move.
Reality...an interesting concept with no successful applications, that should always be accompanied by a "Do not try this at home" warning.
Hundreds of years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...But the world may be different because I did something so bafflingly crazy that my ruins become a tourist attraction.
"Oooh...ahhhh...that's how this all starts...but then there's running...and screaming..."

I have the same device. It supposedly now comes with 5000+ preblocked numbers, but there is no list and no way to find out who, what, or where they are. It has a few foibles but overall it does the job. I used to get multiple scam calls a day, but now I'm down to one every couple of weeks. It was definitely worth the C-note.
Whew...Maybe the chilidog waas not such a good idea.
Our phone provider has a free-service. When engaged, the caller receives a message similar to the following:
"This number does not accept solicitation. If you are a solicitor, please add this number to your do-not-contact list and hang up. Otherwise press 1 to be connected."
The number of garbage calls, inclduing all robo-dialed, politcal calls, has gone to zero.
When I found out that Intermountain was releasing their UP CA-3/4 caboose. I realized I make my Union Pacific layout in the late 1950s, probably 1957-58. It would be really hard to buy all 4.
This layout will only hold two trains. FEF-3 #838 would be a good fit, and the newest F3 release.
Hey all. I'm happy, the modern era boxcar I need for my wheeling trains (60ft gunderson) is FINALLY being produced again, this time by athearn. Between four bowser wheeling hoppers and those gundersons, my wallet will not be liking be lol.

I don't have call display. Our land line is through Bell Canada and they want more than $10.00 per month for call display. IMHO that is a serious ripoff and I refuse to pay it. I'm going to start shopping around for an alternate supplier.
I don't have a problem with bogus calls on my cell phone, likely because it is rarely left on.
We could get a phone line with our cable/internet provider but their service is not 100% reliable. Every so often their service goes down for a few hours. We have never had the Bell system fail in 40+ years of dealing with them, even during power outages.

Considering that the phone company's equipment pretty much comes with built in Caller ID these days, and it should not cost them anything to provide the service, ripoff is an understatement.
We have never had the Bell system fail in 40+ years of dealing with them, even during power outages.
That's because everything is on batteries, or should be. You can expect four hours of service in a power outage at a minimum. Provided, of course, that you have at least one plain old telephone on the line. People who have only a cordless phone with an AC powered base are out of luck.
