I have decided the "Keep me logged in" option on the log-in page is just a placebo.

1. Make sure your browser cookies setting allows mrr.trains.com and cs.trains.com.

2. Make sure your browser cookies setting does not block (or allows) trains.com, mrarchive.mrr.trains.com, and images.mrarchive.mrr.trains.com.

That is what worked for me when I had problems with the browser retaining my login credentials. Note, I am not a subscriber to anything but the base magazine, so even that may not be enough for archive or video+ subscribers.

And for Steven O, you might mention to the staff responsible for the web site, that they really ought to list exactly which cookies they need to set and the user must retain in order for the auto logins to work.

Flo, could I get some chicken strips with sweet & sour sauce, some american fries with white cheese on them and a glass of water. Thank you so much.

FRRYKid - No ties ? Lucky guy !

I just don't attend much of anything that requires a tie. (Considering in this neck of the woods, black jeans are considered formal wear.)

Hobby Front: I got the last two crossings installed yesterday. If the weather holds, I will get all four of them painted this upcoming Sunday. (Getting close to the drop dead point for working directly on the layout. Unheated storage building on the ranch.) I also dabbling into getting my hills covered with trees. I have the ground foam left over from the failed furnace filter tree project. I'm going a different approach on the trees: the branches from Christmas tree wreathes. The few that I have done have turned out pretty good looking at least to me. I will need to get a small pair of scissors to clip a few of the "needles" that are hanging beyond the ground foam. The cutters I'm using to rough trim the needles before I put the ground foam are a little heavy for that fine of work. I also bought tow packages of the Woodland Scenics tree armatures. (Next part of the forestry project.) I also hope to maybe get the new engine house ready for paint this afternoon/evening. (And yes, I will post pics before it goes to the paint shop.)

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I could use a cup of hot chocolate right now, please.

Recovering from two busy days at the Museum over the weekend.  Had a very unusual thing happen to me out there yesterday.  I like to kid around with the guests on board the Erie Caboose at times.  Since the kids were able to pick a tiny little pumpkin up at the "Pumpkin Patch" in the upper yard for the rides this month.  I would often ask folks who were carrying the little tiny pumkins for their kids, "What time will the pie be done?"  Of course you wouldn't get enough from one pumpkin to even make a tart...  While detraining in the lower yard I asked that question to a "grandmother" and she replied, "Sorry, no pumpkin pie today, but I do have an apple pie ready..."  We loaded the next bunch of visiters on the train and did the next round trip.  After we got the people off the train the next time we arrived in the lower yard (by the Depot), there stands the lady, next to her is the Museum president and a couple other volunteers with big grins on their faces....  They open the gate and in comes the lady..... with the apple pie which she presented to me as a present!

Tonight I will get to hear my granddaughter #2 sing with a small group of other second graders at the School Board Meeting.  It is a special song for the Superintendent of Schools I guess.  That should be fun!

My quote for the day.....

" "No comment” is a comment." - George Carlin

Have a good one!

Afternoon Diners,

I found a website called Gas Buddies. So I can place a gas station or oil distribution by the name if any.

I know its modern but it's a head start what's around the area in the midwest. I have to figure out if I back date if I see pictures.

J.Powell  , don't know how or when I missed the fact that you had moved north. Please tell me about that.

Except for 6 years in the 90's while in the Marines and stationed in San Diego, I've never lived anyplace else other than the Syracuse NY area.

Hello gang! Hope all is well with everyone. Angel Prayers to those in need, including me.

Yes I said me. I'm going through a rough patch in life, more on the mental side of things than the physical side. Yes, I will be ok. And yes, I am getting professional help for the problem(s). It's also why I have not been in the last few days.

Anyways... moving along...And off my SoapBox

Welcome to the Diner DC Jim. Have the girls put your dinner on my tab today.

Nice weather we are having here in Upstate NY. Was in the mid 70's yesterday, low 70's today, and they're calling for 82 for the high tomorrow (fwiw, the record high for tomorrow in Syracuse is 83). The, rain for most of the rest of the week and abck to more normal temps for this time of year (50's for daytime highs and upper 30's to low 40's for overnight lows)

On the MRR front - Nothing to report

On the WORK front - Wegmans is keeping me pretty busy with 30-35 hours a week. Although if this was summertime, our college kids would be eating up some of those hours and I'd only be working 20 or so hours per week vice what I'm getting now. My store has the busiest Pharmacy in the Syracuse region of 8 stores. We fill over 1,000 scripts a day in store followed by another 1200+ a day that we send out to a "fill" facility in Buffalo that is ran by a major pharmacutical supplier.

On the Landscaping Business side - Not much to report. About to wrap things up for the season in the next few weeks.

On the Amazon Storefront side - Between needing to talk to a lawyer, call my accountant back tomorrow, come up with a business name, file for my dba, and insurance, I've got ALOT to do. Not to mention the course I signed up for almost a month ago that I have not even sat down to work on. So, if anyone has a good cleaver name for an online retail business, let me know. I'm stumped and sure could use the help.

Anyways, thanks for letting me rant this evening.

Take care!

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed and I will have a Beer please.

Work Front Zzz Yep, a slow day.

gmpullman
If you promise to be a good boy, Ken and try not to get mad at me anymore maybe I'll send another package your way with a Bessemer Bay window caboose in it

Ed what do you consider being good? Whistling Far has the caboose that would be great. Yes I am gussing there are not a lot of Bessemer rolling stock out there. I have played with the Reveb a little and do like the effect. I have not messed with the EQ yet but I will. Engine sounds are very high pitch. Gets on my nevres quickly.

gmpullman
Are there any hops left in those hoppers when they get to the brewery? They're awfully light and fluffy to carry in an open-top car

Do you think I am as dumb as I look Ed? (don't answer that) I use Covered Hopper!

gmpullman
Doesn't the ops mode programming work on your Decoder Pro?

Ed Can you use the PR3 and decoder pro while running on the main line? Way I do it is start decoder pro, turn it to stand a lone setting then places the engine on the programing track.

YGW I think the Northfolk & Western is a Class A. It is at the St Louis Transportation Museum about 25 miles form me.

"The old Christmas village didn't fit under the larger tree, so I had the bright idea to make a new setup, using my old trains. B-I-G mistake! The train bug didn't just bite me, it dragged me around the neighborhood several times before dropping me off in front of my computer and eBay. Let's just say that my credit card company likes me........ A LOT!"

DC Jim Yep, been there and done that. What got me into Trains by accident was HO Slot Cars. Wanted some HO Trees to go on the large slot car track. Got some train stuff with the lots I won. Next think I know, well many $$$$$$$$$ later I became a train nut. Does not help that I live with in 2 miles of a great train store, K-10 Model Trains. Stick out tongue

 Later, Ken

I presume you mean clever rather than cleaver. A name depends a lot on what you are planning to market. If you can give a general idea on that vein, a suggestion is possible.

Hobby Front: Per my statement of earlier, here are the promised pictures of the engine house before it will be painted. The awnings that will go over the doors that can be seen in the left hand house picture (2nd in the string) as well as the windows will not be installed until the building and the roofs are painted. (The building will be Apple Barrell Light Mocha; the color of the roofs hasn't been decided yet and the windows, the awning supports, the personnel and engine house doors are SCII NP Dark Green, which is one of the colors of the tourist railroad using it.) There are parts that I bought online and there are parts that Garry sent me that I used to build this. The front of the engine house, as you can probably see, is a kitbash. (Eight different pieces counting the engine house door which won't be installed until after the building is painted.) There are a few more styrene pieces that are on order that will be installed before the final paint goes on.

Good morning ...... Coffee and a cinnamon roll please.

FR RY ..... Your building s looking great ! I'm looking forward to seeing the final results.

Ray .... The apple pie was well deserved I'm sure .... But did you have eat the whole pie? ! ! ! ! LOL

Dennis .. Glad to hear your new dentures are working well. Like many people, you outlive your original teeth.

MLC (Moe Larry Curley) .... Because you are only 50 or so miles away, we should sometime get together. If you have time for a layout tour here at the lake, let me know.

Not much progress to report. Yesterday, I replaced a turnout which had big problems. Also, I repaired another turnout with little problems.

Happy model railroading, everybody  !

Hi, JPowell,

I understand what you're talking about with your Amazon Storefront, and as of yet, that discussion is OK here. But as Forum admin I'm obligated to warn you not to let this discussion wander over that very thin line into the realm of promotion. We don't allow advertising on the Forums, not even in signatures. So I'm afraid if anyone wants to know how to find your shop once it's up and running, they'll have to ask you via PM. Sorry, but them's the rules.

Well, LION does not think that this exactly so. I am sure that MR would be happy to sell him a box in the right hand column. Not that it will do him much good, my firewall tends to block those sorts of things. If your adds were coming as part of your webpage, the would work, but from a third party source... eh... my firewall is smartter than that.

Maybe you can add a 'directory' to the right column, where forum members may buy a few lines of advertizing.

We had a party for my cousin this past Saturday. It was her 80th birthday. She's 4 years older than I am, & we are the 2 oldest on that side of the family. We had a great time as her kids put together a terrific slide show of family going back to the late 30s. Lots of memories & laughter. It's kind of sad when thinking of all those who have passed, but a lot of joy in the memories of all the good times never the less.

Got 4 hours of railfanning in on Sunday. 15 trains with foreign power for Union Pacific, Canadian Pacific & BNSF sprinkled in among the NS power. One of the mixed freights had a smaller tank car labled Nitric Acid which I found interesting. It was the first time I've seen a tank car other than crude oil with the end shields. I'll be curious to see if the shields start showing up with some regularity on cars other than crude oil.

Yesterday I installed a new battery in my laptop, which I've had for a little over 6 years. The old one wouldn't hold a charge, but worked fine as long as it was plugged in. I did a little shopping on the internet, & saved quite a bit over what the laptop's manufacturer was selling replacement batteries for. I have been fully charging & discharging the new battery to optimise it. The old one may have lasted longer if I had done that more often. I really don't use my laptop much on battery power. Suppose I'll just have to get in the habit of cycling the battery more often.

Looks like there won't be any railfanning this coming Saturday either. The wife has a baby shower to attend. And speaking of babies, we are waiting on word from my nephew & his wife, they are  expecting any day now. They live in South Carolina, so I have no idea when we will see the newest addition to the family.

It's 78 outside right now and very humid. But there is a little breeze, so it's not too uncomfortable. Well, better go & finish up the last load of laundry. Take care & enjoy your day.

Not a good day here.  I just put my wife on a plane for Florida.  Her Dad is 99 and went into hospice last week.  I don't know why, but they never gave anyone any indication of how much longer he had.  She talked to the nurses right there, who probably have a better idea than anyone, and they said, "If you get here tonight, you may get a chance to hold his hand before he goes."

Uh yea... sorry for the typo gang. It should ahve read clever, not cleaver. Not sure what I'd want with a Cleaver name unless I was a butcher and was looking to open a butcher shop. Big Smile

Anyways, good evening gang. Hope all is well with everyone this evening.

Chloe - how about a nice big hot fudge sundae? Um, yes, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry on top. Hold the sprinkles (or jimmies depending on where you're from). Thanks. Oh.. flavor ice cream? Um... how about Cookies N Cream? Thanks!

MRR Front - Still at a standstill. Still dreaming.

Amazon Business Front - Still working on coming up with a name.

Landscaping Business Front - May have a potential mowing customer for next week. Too bad I'm booked solid this week at Wegmans. And if it wasn't going to rain this weekend, I'd prolly have it done before next week rolls around. Speaking of rain, boy do we need it. This area is in a drought and they say we could get about 3-4 inches of rain between Thursday and Sunday! Surprise

Wegmans Work Front - Busy, Busy! Actually had a surprise from one of the young ladies who stopped in to shop... in the form of some flirting. Thumbs Up She knows one of the ladies who works the coffee bar in my store so I'm assuming that she is a regular. Let's hope that she is... Big Smile

Anyways gang, I'm off to the corner booth to eat my sundae, watch some trains roll by and do some research on potential Amazon business names.

Take care!

J Powel from your signature, its heartbreaking when a pet dies. Dogs only live around 15 years so i have had several just super dogs, I hope we will be reunited in heaven.

I always get another dog as fast as I can, did you ever get another?

Actually it's a long long story. When I got my dog bacn in Jan of 2000, I was still living at home. I then met my ex wife adn every place we lived, we couldn't have dogs, let alone cats. So there he stayed. It wasn't until the last place we lived at in 2004-05 that we could have them bring him over for vistis. However, my ex didn't like that at all so he only came over once or twice while we lived there. We split in early 05 and the apartment I moved in to, all I could have was cats. Well that turned out to be ok cause about 3 weeks after she moved into her new condo and got her new furniture, the cat we adopted for her son in 2004 began to claw and tear up her new leather couch. Well the cat came to live with me and eventually on to my house. He passed away in December 2013 and I got 3 baby kittens the week of Christmas 2013. They're siblings, a male (Matteo) and 2 females (Matilda and Baby). As for Hunter, he was attached to "grandma" (my mom) and when I moved out of my apartment into my house 8yrs ago, there was no way I could take him from mom. So there he stayed until the day we put him down in June of 2010. I know I will see both Hunter (the dog) and Chopper (the cat) at The Rainbow Bridge when my time comes.

There are plenty of good Cleaver names--Ward, June, Wally, and, of course, Beaver.

Today I had my first colonoscopy. I was overdue as I am currently 56yo and this is my first one. I was nearly clean with one polyp that they removed. The procedure was simple enough, but the prep was a bit of a problem. I had a bad reaction to the second dose of the "cleanser" and suffice it to say the cleanser and all of the subsequent liquids refused to stay down. Not much fun at all.

Evenin' Folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf would be most welcome at the moment...

MisterBeasley, my prayers for your wife that she may arrive in time to hold his hand one last time.........  My prayers also to you and yours during this time!

When my wife passed many years ago, she held on until 5 minutes after her sister arrived from California....  She went in to see her, came back out on was followed by a nurse saying she was gone.  Sigh

Been a very warm day for mid October here in the Finger Lakes Region.  Got up to 82°F by mid afternoon.  Low will be 57°F tonight and the high tomorrow 68°F.  Then for the next 14 days it should be all of mid 50° for the highs.  We are having what some are saying is an "Indian Summer" now except that doesn't happen until after the first killing frost.  Peas will be in blossom within a few more days, so I hope the frost stays away for a couple more weeks.

Quote for the day:

“Last of all came the cat, who looked round, as usual, for the warmest place, and finally squeezed herself in between Boxer and Clover; there she purred contentedly throughout Major's speech without listening to a word of what he was saying.”
― George Orwell, Animal Farm

Have a great night!

Evenin' Diners

We are enjoying near-record warmth here in NE Ohio! 82° (28°C) there's a cooling trend on its way...

Flo, how about a nice peach melba like they used to serve on the New York Central? Coffee to follow... Thanks!

Ken, I was just going by your original statement about the hoppers, nothing mentioned about "Covered"

cudaken
But I have a 30 car hopper train that needs to get the barley and hops to the brewey! was looking for a Bessemer caboose I will add.

Here's the spare B&LE 'boose I have if you'd like it. You're right, they are pretty scarce!

I don't recall who made it but it is really bright! You'll need to tone down the color with some weathering. NO you can't have the box car!! Whistling

When you open Decoder Pro you can choose programming track or program on main after you select the locomotive address from your roster, Ken. The button is in the lower right of the main screen.

Thanks for the compliments on the concrete work, fellas! Playing with all that Sculptamold on the layout paid off!

Train Front:

I finally ran trains last night after spending a few days making some wiring modifications/improvements. I should get busted for bad train handling, though. I had TWO break-in-twos on a seventy-car freight! In one case the trip pin fell out and I had to retrieve it with my new "Magnet" car (Thanks to RR_Mel's ideaYes) in the other case it was the poorly designed draft gear of the Intermountain box car. There's only a tiny plastic pin that presses the coupler box to the car floor! No screws, just a press-fitThumbs Down.

I picked up three of the Rapido New Haven 8600 coaches and they arrived yesterday. Pretty sharp! Outstanding details and—as Jason likes to point out— especially the underframe and interior! The lighting sure is bright but I do remember these cars did have pretty bright fluorescent lights!

Well, there's a gentle rain falling and I hear the layout calling...

On to the trains!

My thoughts and prayers to Mr. B and all others in need...Angel

Regards, Ed

Evening Diners,

I washed the dogs this morning. Charlie decided to poop on the street right before a car was arriving, I quickly ran back to sidewalk. Later on I found out that his feet was covered and a little later on, on his tail in poop too.

I Murray a bath also just in case. Sometimes they side by side and also the leashes.

Train News: I decided to buy the small grain elevator from Branch Line Trains on a EBay for $26.00 with free shipping. Now I need to get grain bins but that's for another time from Rix. I hope to get the 30' ones.

Edit: Top of the page. It seems I'm very lucky. Flo pay for the beverages.

Good evening Diners!  Cheese and Broccoli soup sounds about right, and a strong black coffee please.
Turned on the computer yesterday morning and went to do something else fully expecting to have to wake it from slumber on my return. I should have been so lucky. No, Windows 10 was updating. A full 35 minutes later I was still not able to use the wretched thing.  58% Complete – and it cycled that for a while before finally letting me use the computer.  Carving stone tablets began to look attractive! Well, Apple did at any rate. If learning a whole new OS wasn’t such a daunting thought, and if the equipment was being given away for free….SoapBox
To more pleasant things.  The time has come to upgrade the room lighting at the train end of the basement. So, that happened today. One advantage of a layout on castors is that it can be rolled (or slid, since not all the castors were turning) easily to give access to the ceiling where two new 4” – 2bar fluorescent fittings were to go.  These photos don’t really capture the extent of the move, but this is where the “benchwork “ would be with no aisles
And here’s the whole thing, taken from that same corner, and shifted as far as possible towards the other end of the room The finished lighting install is like this
and is giving me much better light as I type this too. Thumbs UpThumbs Up
Now that half the turnouts are wired, and a connection fault with my stationary decoder found and fixed, I had a go running a train, only to find more glitches at turnouts. So progress will be bit by bit, sorting out continuity issues and rail alignment troubles one by one – all the while wiring in more turnouts as time permits. There will come a day, there really will, when I can do more than just have a train go round and round….
…and that folks is an early warning signal, 2½ months, give or take. Well, give anyway!
DC Jim:
Thanks for posting the layout / structure photos you y’all – it’s more encouraging than you can know. Great to see excellent modeling. Bow Time to climb the wooden hill; ‘night all. Prayers for all in need. Angel

Thanks for the good wishes.  My father-in-law passed away earlier this evening.  I don't think my wife got there in time, but they were trying to keep him technically "alive" until she got there.  That would be some comfort to her.

If that is Windows 10 Pro, you can block automatic updates. I don't think it is possible on the other versions of 10 though. I rarely use Windows myself, only when I have no choice, so can't recite the steps necessary off top of my head. But if you are interested, a Google search should find the instructions for blocking the automatic updates.

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed and I will have a Beer

Work Front Slow day but a good day for the owner with $2500.00 in sales. My Self? Whistling Well I made A Extra $1.00, yep that was it!

Ed If you can spare the caboose that is fine. Sure not like I have to have one. Was told at K-10 Model Trains last week when I was debating about buying the Bessmer SD-7 "We have a store full of stuff you do not need"! Laugh

gmpullman
Ken. The button is in the lower right of the main screen.

Ed I see the said button but it is not high lighted? More than likely because I do not have the PR-3 transfomer pluged in. If I can get the program section to work, well I see the normal program screen I use in stand a lone mode? Only thing I hate about DCC (besides cost) is if you hit the wrong button you can shut down a engine, or change CV's in all your engines! I did that onces!

Der Good looking so far as the layout goes! Are you Ho or N scale?

Mr B Sorry to hear your Father In Law passed.

J Powell What will you Amzom store be selling? Is it hard to start one? I am guessing everything will be dropped shipped?

 See you all later, Ken

Hi all.

Zoe, an extra tall shot of Irish Whiskey please.

Haven't posted in a while I know.

A friend and I applied for a place to share, a 3br, 2-level apartment. Going to find out this week if we're approved. If so, I'll be moving out of my family's home early December. If we get approved for the place. Our income is more then enough, and we have good references. So we'll see. If not, another place may likely come up.

Work lately has been draining. I worked 6-days in a row, and now have two days off. Two coworkers are leaving and I'll get a caseload that is double my current one. I'm not looking forward to such, but hopefully new people will alleviate the situation and can be relied on to ease my workload.

On the MR project front. I misplaced the instructions for my F&C C15 kit. I can ask for a replacement set, but I'd like to try building the model without the instructions. By problem solving, logic, and educated guesses. On second thought, I better get those directions ordered.

I just ordered two Railworks PRR #7 brass water columns. I've been playing with brass off and on since 2002 when I bought my first model using funds from mowing lawns all through the summer. My main focus with brass collecting is just getting models not likely to be available in plastic/resin, and diecast.

Cheers,

Alvie

RideOnRoad

Today I had my first colonoscopy. I was overdue as I am currently 56yo and this is my first one. I was nearly clean with one polyp that they removed. The procedure was simple enough, but the prep was a bit of a problem. I had a bad reaction to the second dose of the "cleanser" and suffice it to say the cleanser and all of the subsequent liquids refused to stay down. Not much fun at all.

I perfectly understand the joys of the "cleanser". I have a family history of colon cancer. (My Dad had it at 43. Caught early thankfully. He did survive it but does have to wear a bag as a result. Yes, way early. Last I checked the ACS site, colon cancer before 60 puts relatives at increased risk.) Due for that again in a couple of years. So far, nothing has shown up but as I recall Dad's was caught completely by accident.

Hobby Curosity: On Sunday, I was working on the fencing for an industrial area on the layout and found that one piece was a lot longer than I had expected. I used a tape measure and discovered that it is 41 1/2" long. (HO scale actual a little over 300 feet) I then rememberred the right angle side is 36" long. (A full piece of cork yard sheet.) I did some more computing and discovered that in real life the area is about +/- 1.8 acres! Yes I was a bit surprised. I didn't think I could get as much as I do in such a small space.
