Despite all the people posting "Why doesn't someone start making up a list for the RIP Track?", nobody seems to have actually done it.

Having actually participated in the Diner only a short time, I can't do it. Only names I know are Barry and Jeffrey.

But I do want to be sure the list includes Andy Sperandeo. He participated often in the Forums when he worked here, giving helpful and detailed answers to many modelers' questions. And there are no words sufficient to express how honored I felt when, in his last published column, he referred to me as his friend.

So that's three names. It would be nice to have at least a preliminary list finished by the time August's Diner opens for business.

Good Afternoon!

I am battling computer issues, which started a few days ago. While I am fine with most web pages, this forum, Youtube and Google are giving me a hard time, slowing down my PC. It could be the volume of information in connection with my rather slow line at the moment. This will be fixed by coming Thursday with a change to a new and hopefully faster connection.

Steven - I´ll try my best with adding names to the list:

Aside from Jeffrey "Running Bear" Wimberley, we have the following names for the RIP track
 (by order of my memory):

  • Barry Arnold
  • Ed Murphy (remember his OJ?)
  • Andy Sperandeo
  • Jerry Cox
  • Wolfgang Dudler
  • Stein Rypern, Jr.

These are the names of folks who passed away since I joined in 2009 - according to my not so infallible memory. I am sure others will be able to contribute names from the times before I joined.

I am slowly selling my model railroading goodies via the bay - I have put the Z scale layout up for sale, but I expect this to take awhile. There is some work to be done on the Swiss layout before that can be sold. I have ordered a few more trees and an agricultural vehicle to populate the layout. That would make the scenery a little more complete. I also have to do some work on those two tunnel portals to make them look like the realy thing. It´s basically only putting a thin layer of DAS self-drying clay onto them and engraving the stone structure. Somehow, I am very reluctant to tackle this job. There are also finishing touches to be done to complete the layout wiring, but I leave that to my friend Lothar, the electrician. I am not sure whether to put up the catenary or not. It´s an expensive affair, which probably won´t reflect into the price I may get for the layout. I guess I will try to sell it without it first and see how that will go.

Working on my layout is getting more and more of a hassle for me. I have lost my sense of coordination to a degree, which makes even typing a gamble, let alone handling a hot soldering iron. My doc tells me it is all mental, but how can one be happy living under a constant threat? Things are not turning to the better here - I won´t say more, as I see Cuz´ Vinnie has risen from the backbooth.

Not sure if Bob Hartle (cmrproducts) was a patron of the Diner, but he recently passed away and he was a member of the forum.

I am glad Steven stopped in so we may spell Andy's last name correctly. Whistling

Of course, it is best to include all who particapted in the general MR forum. Being a former Diner patron should not be required.

For Jeffries Diner and or with RIP track is :

Garry,Ulrich, Alvie, JaBear, Ken, CN Charlie, Terry, Howmus, Herrinchoker,Ricky W, Richard, Anelob, Rich, TMarsh, Johnboy

Steve declined to vote ( owner of the building and not the resturant, it is the patrons vote though he is pleased that we named it Jeffries )

Mr. B - Voting present

Lion - Would like a picture of a lion in it  : )

Duke - Likes and has been following ( he goes way back ) the changes he suggested Flo/Clo - But I think he is okay with it as it is ?

Inch - Like Elliot

Ulrich has posted the latest list with RIP.

Johnboy, TMarsh, Inch -- If I have omitted anyone it is not out of ill will. I only went back two pages of post about the time Garry called for a motion to proceed with Jeffries and a RIP track. That was done that way simply because I only have 30 minutes for lunch and time was limited. Please forgive me it was not because you are not important.

I have updated the vote above.

Ulrich - Angel For your health. I wish you didnt have to sell your RR.

Steve I think it okay that Andies name be added.

JaBear - Oh what is POM mean for the english ?

Money Bucket - You had me smiling with your post this weekend. Gave me comfort Dads face teh same thing everywhere in regards to the wife and kids. You cracked me up with the wife thanking you for not burning teh place down. Your kids will long remember that you took time with them Yes Bow unfortunately some of our own country men are being locked out of grazing land by some in power here too.

Ken - LOL Good filks with bad tatse in cars . Made me laugh. I am a hybrid. I have four vehicles. Three from major aouto makers and One is a rice burner. I would think your package will be there by Wednesday or Thursday.

FRRYKid - I had a coup,e of Polie folks wondering around my site. Oddest thing to watch.

Howmus- Wick burned ? What is that ?

V8 - Oh geez I hope you get the AC in soon !

Lion - One thing the docs told me is to keep the DNR short and to teh point. They dont read the whole thing and will not. I think teh hospice folks are amazing.

Garry - It is terrible what kids go through in the courts and police system. Friends of mine are foster parents. Those kids by the time they get there they are messed up by the damage caused by terrible parents.

TMarsh , Bill - Please pop in more often. It would be nice to have some old hands around.

Henry - Shame that didnt work. I think it a great idea. Cabooses for shops.

Dave - what about BB guns ?

Jeremy C.- THAT is a LOT of weed killer. Thta much would scare me that it would poisen us too.

DeeCee - Did you try greasing the pole too ?

Hello Railfans!

Flo - just a small drink for me, I only have a minute.....

After reading the suggestion of changing the Diner name, I aligned myself with that vote. I thought it was a good idea and still do. This puts me in the minority. To which I will concede the vote of renaming.

I am for the RIP Track idea. I think it is pretty much decided this is an addition to the forums opening page.

I think Ulrich has a pretty good start on the names for the list. I would add Bob of CMR Products. Here only once or twice that I saw, he was a good guy and was a great inspiration during the first coupler project I did.

I am still at the "apprentice" level here, having only been a part of the forum for about 1.5 years now (when i can). It is inappropriate of me to work on the list - I have not the knowledge of names who have been here before me.

I believe this responsibility belongs to our elder forum posters such as Ulrich and the like. Those who have certainly paid more dues here than I.

As it stands for my part:

Change name: Yes - conceded to loss.

RIP Track added: Yes - majority votes as of this writing.

See yall later!

Morni.......  Hmmmmm...  Well!  Afternoon folks!

Yep I'm up and at 'em not so early today.  Slept in so Blackie got his morning insulin a bit late...  Chloe, I just need a refill for my Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee if you would please.

Everything outside was wet when I got up this morning.  Thunderboomers passed through a couple times during the night and the road is just now becoming completely dry.  We could use a lot more of this here in the Finger Lakes right now as we have been declared under dought conditions.

Proper term is "Packing" (couldn't think of it last night).  Info here: http://www.atrrm.org/blog/2016/02/journal-boxes-and-their-inspection/

Back to catching up on stuff needing to get done!

Pompous the British may be, but there are several different explanations to the origin of that nickname. The most likely one is Pom being the shortened form for pomegranate, the color of which the British people with their rather fair skin turned after being exposed to the Austrialian sun.

There are a number of different nicknames for the British among the various countries and cultures, but politeness and consideration for my British friends keep me from posting them here.

None of them are nice =))

Chloe, could I get a club sandwhich, some cottage fries (with white cheese on top) and some raspberry iced tea please?

Hobby front: As you folks know, I received an SD45 with a few problems. I contacted the seller and she is willing to give me a partial refund. She admitted that she missed seeing that. The way it sounds the seller handles a lot of engines and check them for running only and doesn't check the details real close. (Of course not everyone is a modeler and checks things like that.)

Update with my SD45: The seller sent me a refund amount even greater than I was expecting or had suggested. It made the locomotive a very reasonable net price. The refund was enough that I was able to purchasse the needed couplers and well as a detail part that will be used to make the correct 4 windows for the NP version of the SD45.

Hi Gang,

Just had a thought, (first one today..  Haha)

But I can't remember if anyone had mentioned putting Elliots name on the RIP list/track.

I don't think that should be forgotten, even though he was long gone, I believe, before I arrived here.  Should probably get top billing...Don't cha think ?   Any thoughts ???

Have to make a quick run to the bank to pay a bill that I can't do online.

Evening everyone,

I vote to keep the diner as is with the RIP track as well. I also agree that anyone thats contributed to MRR or been on this forum should be added regardless the number of posts. Just my My 2 Cents

Could I get a pot of coffee please. I am trying to stay up as long as possible for my oatmel baths every 2 hrs, alchohol rub and Benadryl . Yep you guessed it, poison ivy. Seems I got it when cutting firewood, thought it was under control but temps in the 90''s with 60-90% humidity caused it to cover me head to toe almost overnight. Seen the saw bones today and he put me on steroids, not happy about that but he says my body cant fight off the poison ivy due to my absessed tooth- which I still cant do anything about till this is gone. Just enjoying the AC tonight.

Ken-prayers for your daughter. Going thru similar issue with my FIL with no will. Wife took over gaurdianship and this was one of the papers we had to fill out. Hope it isnt needeed for your daughter.

 Evening Diners

 Flo, Beer please. Sigh

Not sure why I have a long face, over all it was a good day. Think it was the heat after I got off from work and went to the store for the wife. She ran out of Junk Food so I spent $35.00 on the junk.

Work Front Over all it was a good day with $3500.00 in sales but I had to do it the hard way. Some of the deals where a real pain in the caboose to get done!

Gary and other diners. Well I sure will not fight the issue, but was not the idea more to remember are fellow dinners? I have read many things by Andy so I think I some what knew him. Was Wolfgang the modeler that lived in England? If it is the Wolfgang I am thinking about, he did great work!

If you where not a diner would it not be better to have the RIP Track on the main page? Have it as a locked post and have Steve or a modrater add names as needed?

YGW I just checked the and the coal drag is in Hazel Wood MO. I should have some of the coal cars Tuesday. Let me know when you get the Snail Mail.

Ulrich On your side of the pond you can get more for a used done layout? Here in the states if you spent $5,000 and sale it on E-Bay you be lucky to get $500.00.

I hate to ask, but what did you pay for the Z-Scale layout and what do you hope to get for it?

 Later, Ken

Wolfgang Dudler lived in Germany, about 150 miles from my place. Actually quite close, but I never had the chance to meet him. Heas a retired highschool teacher and yes, I think he was the modeler you were thinking of, Ken. His web page is still up:

I have sunk about $ 250 into the lot and I hope to get half of it back.

I´won´t be selling all my treasures. I will keep the Marklin locos and that oval of track, as well as the Japanese N scale mini-modular layout, which is small enough to be taken with my, should I have to move out quickly. I could never sell it! It was your help which got me off the ground and back into model railroading, so the layout is dear to my heart!

Gooooood Morning!!!

Mornin’ Bill.

Just coffee today girls, please and thanks

Was trying to remember the feller that lived down south in Mexico I think, who had passed. Remember it was Ed. Stopped in to offer up his name and see Ulrich remembered him and already had him on the listYes. Miss that tanker of OJ we used to pull around.

Lots of folks missing, but can’t think of any others that have passed that I know of.

Garry- Thanks, but Mom passed back in January 2011. Your Mother passed? I’m so sorry to hear that. I know last time I was in the know, she was getting around good for her age, but I do believe she may have been slipping a bit IIRC. 96 is a good long life. Prayers for your daughter and grandchildrens situation.

Inch- You change your phone number? If I get phone calls with numbers I don’t know, I ignore them. I have you in my phone by name so if it came across as a number I mor’n likely ignored it. Sorry about that!

Welp, got groceries to put up to the restaurant and the outside lights don’t seem to work. I’m gonna get most of my hairs cut today. I say most cause I'm sure she'll miss a couple. Ray told me once if you're gonna get a hair cut, you might as well get them all cut. Good advice. Costs the same so you actually get the most for your buck. I may ask her if the things ever worked before I climb up there.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning  ! .... I'll have a coffee and a waffle with real butter and real maple syrup, please.

Todd .... Thanks for commenting. I have a video of Mom playing the piano on her 95th birthday. She was still very good at playing it then. She died on May 21st, only a fewweeks ago.

Bill T .... Good morning to you too.

JohnBoy ... Are the trains running on your railroad today ?

Ken ... The thought process leading to the RIP Track idea did begin with how to include some sort of memorial to Barry, and it evolved to where it should include any other forum members  who passed away. The Diner is open to the entire forum, and so I think it is best to include all forum members who have passed away.

Ulrich .... If you are the one opening the August Diner, I think you know what to do. I would suggest the top of the first post say "Everybody is welcome" so everybody knows it is not an exclusive club.

Again Galaxy has been away for a while. It sounded like his train of life was running on rough tracks. I hope everything smooths out for him.

I know there are several others who have been MIA for a while. I used to have several eamil contacts with them, but most of my contact list somehow disappeared.

We're having hot weather this week, and I hope to be in the cool train room working on the layout later today.

Happy Model Railroading.

If you where not a diner would it not be better to have the RIP Track on the main page? Have it as a locked post and have Steve or a modrater add names as needed?

Several reasons why not:

• The RIP Track is a Diner thing, not a Forum thing. It's easy to forget that there are many more people in the Forums than those who patronize the Diner. People who come to the Forums just for model train information don't care about people they never knew who died before they ever joined the Forums.

• There are two locked posts at the top of the General Discussion Forum already. Whenever there are three, people start complaining that their threads are "buried." Let's not add a permanent one.

• I participate in the Diner because I want to. Not because I need to be assigned more duties.

Keep the RIP Track in the Diner. Any one posted outside the Diner will be appended to the Diner thread.

I am one who is not easily in agreement with others, but this time I am - let´s keep it in the Diner!

It has turned quite hot all of a sudden. Now it´s steaming outside and I am certainly not made for that!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I need a bowl of Vanilla Almond Granola cereal, a glass of OJ, and a Barry sized pot of MArrakesh Express Darik Roast Coffee for my R&GV RR mug. (in rememberance of those who have gone to the big layout in the sky.)

We got well over a tenth of an inch of rain Sunday Night and Yesterday here in the area.  We need much more.....  badly!  At least I won't have to water the garden today...  I headed out to get my dose of sunshine a few minutes ago and decided to wait a half hour or so and let the chair seat dry in the sunshine. Smile, Wink & Grin

I am in agreement with Ulrich (actually, I agree with him quite often...) on keeping the RIP listing in the diner itself.  I think this is where it belongs, and this thread is almost always on the front page.

I need to bake the cookies I plan to take out to camp when I visit my troop tomorrow.  Should get that done before the main heat of the day hits this afternoon.  Going up to all of 76°F....  By Thursday and Friday they are predicting highs of 93°F.  That stuff in the midwest will be moving Eastward...

Catch you all later!

Good Afternoon all.

Lets clarify my vote here.... Yes for keeping diner as is, yes for keeping RIP track and/or Fallen Flags posting in the diner. I do not feel another locked permanent post at top of main page is a good idea, nor does Mr. Otte need more responsibilities... As a mod on another site, with many less patrons, it still sometimes gets pretty busy, can't imagine how busy Steve gets on occasion.

Weather - Cooler 80 today, but warming up starting tomorrow, with high heat and humidity returning. Thursday on is 90's +, with enough humidity to have heat indices above 100 easily, might be approaching 110 indices by weekend...

W**k - One of the part time people (Kate) turned in her two weeks notice over the weekend, as she is moving on the 1st of next month. (Moving from 5 minutes away to 1:45 awa, one way.) As we still don't have a actual named store manager as of yet, our store cannot replace her, so we will be down to a total of 7 employees (9 last month), and one who can only work 2 days a week due to her other job (so, for all intents and purposes, 6 employees available to fill all shifts all 7 days each week). Our three remaining cashiers (once Kate is gone) are limited to 29 hours each, per week, and ther must be a minimum of two people each hour we are open. And, one must be a MOD (Manager On Duty) at all times. As my hours have creeped up as well, I will be limited to 28-29 hours each week, and the two other managers, limited to 38 hours and 43 hours each week, respectively. Each must have a minimum of 2 days off, and state law requires a lunch break, off the clock, of at least 30 uniterupted minutes, after 6 hours. Now, add in that I have my cousins wedding Saturday, and that I am out of town the entire following weekend, this means one of the 2 others who can be MOD's must be there those days, and on Fridays and Saturdays, we are open longer than 6 hours, so you must have yet another MOD available, so both must be there those 4 days. Now, this could easily become an issue, but then you factor in that all of us are hourly, and we have only 135-155 hours available each week, depending on sales/markdowns and scheduled deliveries, and something is just not going to work. Glad someone else is responsible for the schedules!

Hobby - Planning on finishing a car kit later this week, as it will be too hot to be doing much else. Might even fit in some weathering while I am at it.

Hope all have a good day!

There is an amusing thread about BlueRail in the Electronics and DCC forum, with a lot of back and forth, but still going `round in circles. I like to hop into that discussion now and then and leave my odor mark Devil

Time to hit the hay - I have been watching Buster Keaton´s "The General" - very nice movie and so relaxingly quiet Smile, Wink & Grin!

Didn´t know they already has steel cabs during the Civil War.

TTFN - CU all tomorrow!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I could sure use a cup of decaf right now, please.....

Got a few things done today...  Not nearly as much as I should have though.  I got some toll house, M&M cookies baked to take out to the Troop dinner tomorrow at camp.  Sent a bunch of emails making some final counts for hots and hamburgs and such for the NMRA Picnic this Saturday.  Scanned and dealt with a couple hundred emails, and then decided to water the garden.  Found out that the deer has been back grazing now on the squash and peppers out there....  So, I made a trip over to the Value Center and got a shaker of deer repellent.  Did get it spread around the bottom (ground) by the raised beds that have anything growing in them (one of them only had radishes and lettuce, now gone).  We shall see if it is successful in the next few days I guess.

Ran across an interesting quote today....

“The most worthless of mankind are not afraid to condemn in others the same disorders which they allow in themselves; and can readily discover some nice difference in age, character, or station, to justify the partial distinction.”
― Edward Gibbon, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire

About time to head for bed, I think.  Catch you all tomorrow.

 Evening Diners

Flo, Beer please and keep them coming.

Work Front Boy I am glad this week is over! One of the worst ones I can remember. I was ready to chew my arm off to get the heck out of the store tonight! Foot traffic has picked up, but no buyers. This is the kind of week that God grew Barliey and Hops for man kind. Smile, Wink & Grin

People who come to the Forums just for model train information don't care about people they never knew who died before they ever joined the Forums.

Steve Kind of the reason I said what I said. I come to the diner because of the people I know and care about that are in the dinner. Lossing Jeffery and Barry was personal to my self and fellow dinners. While I know Andy from his writting and Wolfgang for his great modeling I did not really know them and there personal life outside of Model Trains. Reason I sugested it be a post on the main page. I do understand about why you don't want to post it there and again I am fine with it.

YGW Just got the first shippment of Round House B&O Coal Cars, and they do look great! I see why you would not have mind keeping them. Enjoy your week off!

Todd Great to see you back in the dinner again. Have you been dusting your 1970 Road Runner?

Well it is LightningLightningLightningLightning and half way hope it does it for all my 2 days off. Like to have some Train Time this time around.

 Later, Ken

Good Morning!

Only 3 folks in the Diner since I said good night yesterday?

Well, here I am, back again! I woke up at 4am after slleping for 6 hrs. - without any interruption - good!

It´s been quite hot yesterday, so I don´t mind getting up early today to enjoy the fresh morning air - just before it get´s hot again.

No major plans for the day. I sold an HOn30 narrow gauge passenger car through Ebay, which I will pack up and dispatch, but only if the money has been credited to my account.
