After only 18 months?

I don't post much anymore and maybe I don't have a right to say anything on the renaming because of it,but I do have a thought.
I came in back when it was called the Coffee Shop and have seen the changes, which have been good and here is my thought.
Why not "Flo and Clo's Diner" since they have been the waitress'es the longest, that way it gives it an inviting nature. Also I agree with listing our departed friends in order of which they have left us with no special reconigtion to one or two or more.
Best to all on sick call and those recovering

RideOnRoad And for what it is worth, I vote for a "non-aligned" name for the diner. We could call it "Steven's Trackside Diner," named after John Stevens, the constructor of the first U.S. steam locomotive. It would also be a tongue-in-cheek reference to Vinnie's alter-ego.

Um... no.
I also vote against including Kalmbach*, MR&T, or the like in the name. To extend the restaurant metaphor, we own the building, but we don't run the kitchen. The Diner belongs to its patrons. Naming it something official-sounding would quash the patrons' sense of ownership and camaraderie. The Diner has been around a lot longer than I've been here, after all.

Afternoon Diners,
Thanks for the video Ulrich, I try the techniques when I get on scram.
I can't believe it's been 18 months since we changed the diner's name. I'll be around when you guys decide to renaming it. Than I would vote.

Is that a Happy Days reference?

Sir MadogHow about a modular design with each module (or segment) about 2 by 4 in size?
What I have done is designed the benchwork so it will be built in modules. They are a bit bigger than 2' x 4' (the longest is about 30" x 8') but they can be worked on from a sitting position and then set in place. I'm also planning on bringing as much of the wiring as possible to just behind the fascia.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

So what you are really saying, Mr. Otte, is that "Otte's Thoughts" is right out...
I'm still fond of Jeffrey, and my sentiments are much like Rich's.... However, I miss others who have passed away too.
In addition there are others who were in the main forum..... ... and who can forget Andy Spenandero (I may have messed up spelling his name) .
So.... I'm glad we are having this conversation. Please continue with your opinions.

Only have a minute and then have to head back out to the Grande Caliente -
To all
I believe that no matter how long you have been here I think you should have some input if we change the name of the diner. But I do believe some of the long timers should have more weight in the matter. Folks Like Lion, Ulrich, Garry....I do not include myself in that famous and wonderful group of guys I have only been here a few great and wonderful years.
May not get back in here tomorrow. The Grande jefe is coming out and wants to have a meeting. We will be discussing the start of four more houses. I was down to only 8 houses under construction. Now I will be back to 13 or 14 depending on how manana ( sounds like minyawna ) meeting goes.
Some Great news today - My heart doctor gave me the ALL CLEAR - HURRAY !!!! Will be back to chasing Momma around the house
If I do not get back in Hope all have a great day
PS - Steve I agree with your comment about the resturant and kitchen

Evening Diners
Flo, PLease.
As I was afraid of it, my caboose derailed today and it was dragging. I did have 2 hours of running around, did most of the wifes running besides mine. Got home at Noon, took a nap and woke up at 1:50 PM? Then off for more running around. This time I used the car that A/C is not working and the heat beat my caboose into the ground.
Yard Wars Boy I wished we did not have the yesterday! I did not do anything with the backyard today!
Train Front Stopped by K-10 Model Trains today and bought 2 switch control boxes. Pretty sure that is why one of my turnouts is not working. Wires are fine and I replaced the motor last week. Bought yet another Accurail 3 Bay Centerflow Covered Hopper? Well, I like them and guess I should have bought all of them when K-10 got them. For $5.95 hard to past up, like I need any more rolling stock!
Speaking of buying what you don't need. While I was checking out I spotted a B&O GP 30 laying on the counter. Asked if it was being bought and was told no. Looked at the box and it was a Lionel HO scale engine. Knew I did not want that so I put it down. Ken (owner of K-10) said I could have it for $10.00. I said no. Then it was $5.00, I said no. Then he said $3.00 and I said no, then bought the dran thing!
He did thell me it did not run and I am sure it is pancake motor engine. So they way I lookat it, it is pre-broken. I don't have to spend time wearing it out! Well maybe it can use the shell on something.
Diners Name If it is not broken, don't fix it! Jeff was a friend, I have some of his engines and rolling stock on the layout as I speak.

richhotrainJeff was such a big part of the Diner, such a big part of the forum, a moderator, a friend to everybody. I mean no disrespect to any of our dearly departed friends on this forum, and there are many, but Jeff was almost bigger than life. Why on earth would we want to change the name of Jeffrey's Trackside Diner to something less meaningful?
No
Ken
Rich. Actually I was thinking of Barry (Blownout Cylinder) and asked if we should also do something to honor him.
How do you feel about Barry and others who have passed away?

Rich. Thanks for your thoughts. Another person was Wolfgang Dudler if I recall the spelling right.
One thought in an earlier post was to have a "RIP track" within Jeffrey's Diner.
Maybe the second page after the first one with the memorial to Jeff
more thoughts will be appreciated.
Garry, sorry that I missed your post a few days ago about remembering Barry and others who have recently passed away. Good idea on the RIP track.
Greetings diners from Devils Lake, ND where the temperature is a cool 64 degrees this evening. One more day of driving before arrival at the lake for the rest of the summer.
Saw several different storage train on various BNSF trackage today. Crude oil cars, covered hoppers and box cars. Sure the covered hoppers are for this years grain harvest.
Later,all.

Flo, could I get a basket of breaded mushrooms with some blue cheese dressing and some iced tea w/ some lemon (no raspberry. It doesn't work with blue cheese dressing very well.)
On the hobby front, I got the SD45 yesterday (Wednesday) and discovered that my reassembly and improvisional skills are going to be needed. The end rails were both broken off in places. Thankfully, there are no missing pieces and I have bashed enough things that I think I can get stuff put back together. The only other major issue is that the airhorn was damaged, but I ordered a metal one to replace it. (I was planning to order some additional parts anyway so I just added it to the order.) Another minor problem is that a hole for one of the nose rails seems to be filled in. I think I will get my drill bits out and carefully drill the hole back back to fix that problem. The other fixes (couplers and snowplow) were planned for anyway. This might end up number two in the queue as the ordered parts won't be here until Monday (and the needed couplers weren't part of that order). However the decals for the GP30 are supposed to be here Saturday (a day I happened to have taken off from w*rk. Needed a break.). Hopefully, I can get the 30 done on Saturday. (Depends on how ambious I get.)

Good Afternoon!
This is a sad day for the civilized world.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of last night´s Muslim terrorist attack in Nice, killing 84 people, who had been celebrating the Bastille Day on the Corniche, the main promenade along the waterfront of Nice. Entire families were wiped out by this mad man who drove a truck into the people standing there and watching the fireworks.
A German family is also among the victims.
In this sad moment, my duties as Forum admin require me to remind everyone to please observe the Forum rules and keep the attacker's ethnicity and religion out of the discussion.
I know that emotions are raw after events like the one in Nice, but to let our anger get the best of us serves only the agenda of the terrorists.
Let's keep our thoughts on the victims, and ensure that at least in this one little corner of the Internet, the attacker and his hateful agenda are forgotten.
Mornin'!
Zoe. I'll have the #2 Special this mornig and Barry Size everything including the Coffee....

What ever we call the diner, we ought to have a cover photo of the diner. It should be a diner on one of our layouts. Submit photos of diners. Spruce them up with the proper signs etc. Park some vintage cars on the outside. Maybe put a LION in the scene.
LION has no diner on the layout of him. There is no place for them in the Subway Tunnels, although up on Pitkin Avenue the Monk's Table Resturant does a fine business. The Avenue actuall had to be properly modeled before I submit pictures of that.

Lion .. The Diner has been a dining car which was moved to a new location each month. . .. So I am not sure how to implement your good thoughts.
Rich. I guess you thought I might have been bothered by something you said, but I was not. You have good thoughts. No apology needed .
I think we could say the specialty of the house would be a Barry-sized burger with an RBF ( Root beer float).
I definately like the idea of the RIP Track posted at the beginning of each month. I think retaining Jeffrey as the name is good.
More thoughts from others will be appreciated.
I want to clarify that although I've put in my for possible new names for the Diner, I'm not encouraging renaming it. I liked Jeffrey and I was pleased Diner patrons saw fit to rename it after him. My ideas are only suggestions in the case that Diner patrons decide to change the name. I'm not advocating that it be changed. That's up to you guys.
Lunch time?.... Not just yet Chloe. Just finally took my shower looking at stuff needing to be done today. Tomorrow and Sunday I will be the car host on the Eire Caboose out at the R&GV RR Museum.
I too would like to see the name of the diner remain the same at this point. I do really like the RIP list proposed for those that are no longer among us. Somebody, maybe all of us can suggest names to put there.
Currently 85°F here in the Finger Lakes. The air conditioner was alreadyt running whenm I rolled out of bed this morning..... Ontario County is now under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning! It looks like it will hit just North of Geneva though.... Calling for 60mph winds with possible damage to trees, roofs, and damage to homes. Telling people to take shelter in an inside room if the storm hits where they are.
Lunch Time.
Meeting with Grande Jefe went well. He is out of my hair now and moving onto the next meeting with new Home owner for a Predrywall meeting. Then send out final notes, lock up for the wekend and on to a week of being on Vacation. One of the many things I love about the folks I work for if I need time off they give it to me no questions. In fact next week While I am off they are bring in another PM to handle a bunch of teh houses, another guy will handle two of the houses and the Grande Jefe will handle two of the critical time frame houses. Three people to do the job I normally do !
To our friends in France: Dear God we ask that you heal the broken bodies of those that remain, heal the hurting souls of those have been scarred by this latest act of hatred. And we pray that you protect us in our homes from this same hate. Evil comes in many shapes and from many directions and we need your guidance and wisdom. How do love enemies when we are hurting ? How do we give them a cup of cool water when they hurt us ? We know that when you return evil for evil it only breeds more evil. Help us be the light that you have called us to be
It is another hot one hear. My coworker told me yesterday his car registered 104!
Reinhard - Hope you are staying cool here is some tall cold water for you ! Look forward to meeting again next week !
FRRYKid - When you ordered teh engine did you know all of those parts were broken ?
Jim - Please send some of that cool air here ! Please !
Howmus - That is so true about teh Rabbits foot. Never did undersatnd that whole lucky charm thing.
Ken - Is that a J ? You could always put the B&O engine in a repair shop. I have one last question for you about renaming the forum. I like you loved jeff. I still think of him. Do you remember his stories of dealing with some of his family ? Or how he could take scrap RR stuff and put together his Frankstein RR stuff ? I even didnt mind it when he got cranky. I say all of that to ask this. What do you think Jeff would say about renaming the place ? I do not know but I beleive he would have been embarrassed that we named it after him in the first place ? I am open to whatever the other folks here decide including you. Heck maybe sometime in the ( hopefully way distant) future they will be renaming this place "Kens Mopar and Beer paint shop ". I liked Jeffrie and still feel a pang of regret at his loss. I sent money to him and helped Galaxy start fund raisers behind the scenes for him, prayed for him.... Whatever the decision is I believe the most important thing is that we have a community of like minded people here from all walks of life and from across the great bodies of water. Everyone here means more to me than whatever name is chosen.
Now for some history on the start of this thread. - Thanks Flip for sending it -
The thread was started on April 29th 2004 By Big Boy 4005 from St.Paul Minnesota. Following is a copy of the first thread:
"Hey Guys, ever since the DOS topic was closed this forum has seems to be lacking that certain something. A place where there is no topic. A place where the members can just say HI. Over on the Classic Toy Trains forum, one of the members brought an idea from a fishing forum that he belongs to, where there is a daily "check in" topic that the members can use. http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14891 So, the idea of this topic is to provide that kind of space for this forum. It will help people get to know each other better, and keep some of the topic clutter off the forum. This topic will always stay on the front page if you use it properly, so ENJOY!!!
My Pastor has this saying "Keep the main thing the main thing" Which means loving people and helping them up when they have fallen, when they are hurting, when they just need a friend, and loving them like God has loved us and forgiven us is the "main thing". Whatever is decided here on the name, what is important is the fellowship we find here and encouragement we give each other, is what we should focus on. The name is important. But is secondary to why we are here. It is a place to say Hi and that you matter.
I count each and everyone of you here a friend and I look forward greatly to hear from you all.
YGW
May I take the liberty and wrap up the discussion we had so far on the naming issue?
I sense a certain reluctancy to change the name, after we had changed it to honor Jeff only 19 month´s ago.
Jeff was a very special member of this community and a dear friend to many of us, so we should keep the name as it is!
Barry was also a very special member of this community, who, just like Jeff served this community as a moderator and ligthened things up with his good natured humor. While having his name "up front" would be fully "deserved", we can´t make that name of the place much longer - hence the idea of a RIP track.
The RIP track should include all the friends we have lost over the years, regardless of them having been frequent visitors to the Diner or not! Wolfgang and Stein hardly ever found their way into this place, yet we should pay our respect to them
May I suggest to end the discussion on the Diner name and concentrate on collecting the names for the RIP track? I am sure I won´t be able to recall all of them - shame on me!
