They finished the paving job at the end of the street, and they mostly did it right.  It was two full coats, base and top, and they paved the whole bad road, not just the worst parts where they added some drainage.  I am a bit worried that the pavement drops off sharply to dirt on the shoulders, and a heavy rain will likely wash out the edges and start to undermine the roadway itself.

The insurance adjuster should be here shortly to look at my car.  It was dented last week in a parking lot.  This one is all on the other driver - I was legally parked, not even in the vehicle.  I'll have no out-of-pocket expenses.

Good Afternoon!

Another drab day over here, just wet & awful. Couple of hours ago we had a bad thunderstorm, just when I was heading for the sofa to take a nap. Lightning had struck fairly close to our house and the thunder was really earth-shattering!

I don´t think we will have much of a summer this year. I am hoping for some nice weather for the first weekend in August - it´s the annual Rail Fan´s Weekend at the DEV - a narrow gauge museum line about an hour´s drive away. During this weekend, the will have all locos they have under steam and that´s a total of 7 locos! Some sight!

Garry & JaBear - I am very much in a favor of that solution - I have no better idea for the moment. Maybe we should have a completely different approach to the name of the Diner in the coming year, as the memory on Jeff and Barry slowly starts to fade away, leaving only us "oldtimers" with fond thoughts on those two gentlemen and their contribution to this forum.

My friend Lothar has returned my Z scale Decapod - repaired. This guy is a wizard. It took him 6 hours, as he had to completely disassemble the loco and reassemble it. Truly a watchmaker´s job.

I have started to sell off my trains. Part of the funds I hope to get will be used for acquiring some more old Marklin stuff, but most of it, say 80%, will be put in the piggy bank for rainy days, of which we have plenty these days. Most of our appliances are dying of old age now ...

Ken -please keep us informed on how your daughter is doing!

Good morning all.

Flo, breakfast special with scrambled eggs, home fries, bacon, wheat toast, and a OJ please. Thanks.

Ken - Sorry that your family is going through a rough time, hope that all works out for the best.

JaBear - I like, only we do get to eat pie afterwards, right?

Weather - Hot, humid, and hot and humid together. Nuff' said.

W**k - I go in this afternoon, hoping for a quiet day, but one with good sales and numbers. Also hoping the AC problem got fixed. (And, hoping that I am not hoping for too much here. Wink)

Hobby - Finished one car kit, have to do final assembly on the other, then it's time to weather. Big Smile

Hope all are well, and enjoy the day!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee and a couple of those sour cream glazed donuts over there on the counter....  Please and thank you!

Bear, that could be interesting, but not sure what you have in mind for us to do at the event......????

Ken, keeping your daughter and your entire family in my prayers during this ordeal!  Do hope she can find a surgeon that can fix it.......

Mr. B, so how fast was your car going sideways when it hit the other guys car???  I'm surprised the person didn't try to claim that anyway.... Whistling  Glad it will be taken care of without any cost to you!

I'm waiting for the driveway sealing place to come back over and finish the job.  Evidently 10:30AM isn't first thing in the morning for them.....  LOL  I don't care, as long as they do finish the job.  In the meantime I have been cleaning house again.  Almost have the dining room and the hallway vacuumed.  Found a bit more dusting needing to get done there also.  this afternoon as soon as the sun moves to the other side of the house, I want to finish washing the dining room windows.  Also need to drive to Canandaigua to get a new mat for the bathroom floor....  Going to be a busy day here!

Good morning.  Flo, a cup of tea and an elephant ear, if you please.  On the road again.  The NMRA convention was a success for me, lots of good clinics and a chance to talk to new people.  The Train Show featured a group of live steamers.  Intriguing part of the hobby.  Talking to one of the live steamers, he told me an engine kit contains over 2,000 parts.  Bought several new tweezers, and some Caboose Industries switch stands.  Talked to lots of vendors.  Good assortment of club layouts.

Yesterday went to the hobby store in Davenport, Ia that got me started modeling in 1967.  The store is still in downtown in the same building owned by the same family.  I bought three old car kits at bargain price as they sell consignments for local modelers.

Speaking of travel I have been in 49 states and all but three Canadian provinces.

Ken, prayers for your daughter.

Eggs are ready so I best go eat.

Johnboy, how is the weather your way?

Whistling

G'd Morning Gang,

Have been checking in on ya all, but haven't posted in awhile as I have been to busy and then too lazy to get much done on the LM&E.

Ken,    My Wife and I will keep Your Daughter Sharon , you and your Wife in our prayers. As you know, Our Buddy "Flip"/Phil from Florida and I went through problems with the esophagus and mine is now closed off at the top and will remain that way the rest of my life. It is far from being a fun experience. I truly feel for Sharon and please tell her she is in our thoughts and prayers. We hope she finds a quality Surgeon to solve this problem and the DNR, just remains as insurance and not used. I believe that Phil's was successfully reconnected at the bottom.

Bear,   I like your idea and what you posted in regard to the "Diner".

Hi Jim,   Our weather had been quite hot up until a few days ago and now it is very wet. Lots of storms over Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Estevan, a small city in the south of Sk. about 25 mins. from the US border got 5 inches of rain in two hours on Sunday. Lots of flooding down there.

Blessings to all,

Johnboy out..........till later......... Back to work

from Saskatchewan, in the Great White North..

Ha!  Had to read that a couple of times before I caught on...

The other driver was a pretty, doe-eyed 20-something girl.  You know, the kind you just can't be mad at no matter what she did?  I did call the police as a CYA move.  I felt a bit bad that they cited her for something, but on the other hand, if she got a citation and I didn't, then the insurance laws tilt more in my favor.

If she had walked into the bar later that evening, I would have bought her a glass of wine.

Lunch Time !!!

Flo can I have ice water, card board with seasoning, paper that passes as lettuce and some pretend steak. Sigh Well anyways it is a good day other than the grub. Man I wish 30 again and I could eat what ever I wanted !

Mr B - Happy Anniversary to you

Johnboy - Well hello glad to see you drop in !! Hey be careful with the "w**k" word it is a four letter word that some of the retired folks here take great offense to !

Jim - Tell us more about the NMRA convention please

Howmus - Oh misunderstood that. Are you wearing an apron while you dust ? Laugh just kidding

Ricky W - Any photos of the progress of the kit ? That stinks about the pay and loosing out on sales

Ulrich - My dishwasher died this week, had to put two tires on the family truck, two tires on the car, mechanic had to work on the Mower ( again ),  the work truck is back in the shop and the stinking weedeater will not stay running Bang Head I think I should just adopt some mechanic - it would be cheaper !

bear - That is a pretty fun idea

Jeremy C - Hope you get some rest

Richard - Until we get a change in Government here from the current crowd of crooks, I dont think jobs will improve. At the beginning of the current crowd we lost our 401 k so now no retirment plan at all, Insurance premuims went up to a 10k deductible ( basically non insurance ) , duties added and pay cuts. Yep not happy !

Ulrich - How does YOH like having you around all of the time ? Were you in buisness for your self when tyou traveled a lot ?

Lion - Here Kitty Kitty - I have brought some nice fresh wildebeast !

Reinhard - Give me a call when you get a chance

Garry - Howdy so you like the change in the post too ?

Ken - I pray Angel that our heavenly father will lok after your daughter, guide teh doctors, give you and yours comfort and not fear. That he will heal her and that all will go well. You have my number if you need someone to talk to

YGW - I am not sure whether she likes it or not. She still feeds me, so it must be OK!

Most of my traveling I did when I was employed by big multinational businesses, like Mobil Oil, Toshiba, Thyssen Steel (now Thyssen Krupp Steel) and SFS.

I have been playing with SCARm a little, detailing the trains on my dream layout, which has been pared down slightyl to come a little more within reach. I will keep this plan as a goal to be achieved ... when I grow up and get rich!

... and here are the trains I drew for my layout:

Ken my prayers for your daughter.  It doesn't sound like a DNR issue, but I'm sure the lawyer will also fix her up with a medical power of attorney, which is different and allows the medical team to discuss you condition with the people of your choice.  Something we all should have these days.

It was the 16th aniversary of our first date.  We have been married 4 years but have known each other 28.

Afternoon Diners,

Sorry about your daughter, Ken.

Ulrich- It's hard for me to model building, scenery, and locomotives in scarm. Is it hard for you to do?

Nothing much happening. I was wondering whether or not to get the Micro-Trains Business Car kit for the G.N.O. Railway. I also thinking of getting the NYC Baggage- Mail car to go with the NYC Pullman Green baggage car.

Doug sorry to tell you we did lose Barry about 2 months ago.  He went to the hospital and he did not come home.

I'm not so sure the Barry Burger is the right thing to remember him by.  It's not a matter of PC, it's just unhealthy like hot dog eating contests or Tray Walker (NFL) riding a dirt bike in the dark on public streets.

Henry - Thank You for the confirmation. I totally missed this news. I didnt have hardly any interaction with Barry save for a few passing replies to posts. Still, as a member of the brotherhood - he will be missed.

My sincerest belated condolences to the family.

( Might I suggest for rememberences of fallen friends that no diner renaming, or menu juggling be done. Yet, under the title banner that opens each months thread, how about a list of names instead? Nothing grandios.

Maybe give it a subheading of "'RIP' Track", and a nice little railroaders proverb accompanying it. Should one of us succomb to the end of life as we know it... no fuss, no muss..... just add the name to the list. )

With any luck, it will remain a short list.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer and a Barry Buger please. Buy the Buick Guy a brew as well.

It is amazimg how tired one can become from worry. It was a slow day, so I had plenty time to worry about Sharon. I need to get the details DNR order. I respect her wishes and cannot blame her for feeling that way. On the other hand I do want some details. I think the main thing it is about is having her on a Ventilator. My daughter has very bad Asthma and has to take steriods. To do the surgery they have to deflate at less one lung. That is the part I am worried about the most. Some days her just breathing is a challange.

Big Daddy Sharons freind Sherry (all so her lawyer) will have the medical power of attonery. I am fine with that. Her mom is a bit of a nut job.

Jeremy from NW Ind I am 14 miles from ST Louis Mo. I grew up in Carmel Indiana and born in Washington Ind.

Thank you all for the kind words and I mean it! As soon as I know more I will let the folks here at the dinner what is going on.

 On to happer things.

Yard Wars Boy I am down in the dump when I rather talk about Yard Wars! Smile, Wink & Grin Last big pile of brush and vines have been hauled off by the city! I think that last of the I have to cut down stuff is done! There will big one more big pile, but this is the stuff I want to have cut down, not made to! I need to get about another 20 boards up on the rear fence then I think zoning will cut me some slack, I hope!

I hope to get the last 24 feet of old fence down Wednesday. That should take say a hour in a half depending on the heat and how I feel. Cutting up and hauling away the old fence should not be that hard, but I have said that before! Whistling

Well, time to get going. And again thank you for all the kind words.

Good Morning!

I got up early this morning - 4.30am, but that gave me 6 1/2 hours of sleep without interruption! Not enough to make me feel refreshed, but too much to go back to sleep again. Well, one can´t win `em all!

angelob6660
Ulrich- It's hard for me to model building, scenery, and locomotives in scarm. Is it hard for you to do?

angelob - you have to draw the shapes in 2D mode and add information as to the vertical position (in height above or below the benchwork) and object height. You can also select the color or "mix" your own color.

Drawing in 2D mode is a little awkward as you have to toggle back and forth between 2D mode and 3D mode for checking. My first attempts were a complete disaster, but after a lot of practice, I have become quite handy with this tool.

I found the video tutorial to be helpful:

Zoe, make that coffee in an IV bag for me, and a breakfast bagel, please!

I´ll be back later!

Bill T .... It is great to see you ! .... I was near you about three weeks ago. I drove through Indiana on my last trip from here in western Kentucky to eastern Michigan. Normally we go through Ohio, but I wanted to try the new section of I-69 from Evansville to Bloomington. The new highway is great, but the old highway IN 37 to Indianapolis was not so good with construction on it. From Inndianapolis, I continued on the old section of I-69 to Michigan. .......

Note to other Diners of the past: ... If you are lurking say "Hi" to us as Bill has now done so we know you are okay !

Ken ... Prayers will continue. I think a living will is a good idea based on the recent experience with my mother passing away. It helped my sisters and I make a very tough decision because my mother did have a living will.

On my layout, I am finally running trains over the track I have been working on. This is the project that should have only taken a week but instead took about 2 1/2 months .

I´ll second that motion!

How about something like this:

"The Trackside Diner´s RIP Track - in memoriam of: (followed by the names)"

I also suggest to rename "Jeffrey´s Trackside Diner" into just "Trackside Diner" and add Jeff´s name to the list on the RIP track.

Aye or nay?

Bill- a mad dog on the loose is a die-hard critter! Despitre many attempts for the final call, I am still around.

Good  Morning,

Another rainy day here but it is a good chance to get in some RR work.

Tom, nice to see you in the Diner. Are you still railfanning?

Mr. B, congrats on the anniversary. My wife and I had ours on the 3rd of July, number 34. We didn't celebrate until last Friday as we were too tired from the visit by our friends on the day. We went out for dinner to a great tapas place here called Segovia, a name Ray probably can relate to.

Ken, sorry to hear about your daughter. Aesophegeous problems are a constant  problem for my wife. She was at her specialist.

I finally have the Dairy Queen finished and it is installed on the layout. It looks good and is a reminder of my mother who loved Dairy Queen.

Hope everyone is well.
