Could I get a pina colata milkshake this evening, please?

Sir Madog

Only 3 folks in the Diner since I said good night yesterday?

In my case I just haven't had anything to type until now.

Weather: It has been over 100 the last two days (100 on Monday {1st time all year}, 102 on Tuesday, forecast to be high 90s Wednesday and Thursday, 102 on Friday. Then back down to 87 for Saturday. (When the temperature drops that much, it makes me worry about the possibility of severe weather Friday night.)

Hobby Front: Should be fairly busy this week. According to the tracking: the handrails for the 30 should be in on Thursday (carefully remove from donor, paint to BN green and white on ends, attach to the 2212), the part for making the additional windows on the 45 should be here Friday (NP 45s had 4 windows while my model only has two), and the couplers for the 45 have a tracking number but the package hasn't gotten to the Post Office yet. I hoping that the 30 can go out to the layout on Sunday. (One less project to worry about.)

Early morning diners,

I been working on my Class 3 short line. I give it a new image, the one I designed three years ago didn't look right, and a little outdated.

For the past two years I couldn't decide if I should buy Micro-Trains weather and graffiti freight cars since it would be very modern. The freight car list would stay to 18-20 with four industries.

I'll type later I'm losing my train of thoughts, maybe some pics if I get to it.

Garry - it´s not yet the season for Apfelstrudel. It´s more for the cold winter days, which we definitively not having right now. We have 30°C, but fortunately, all the humidity has been blown away by a rather strong easterly wind. Now it´s just hot.

Just a sneak preview what will come up when the days get cooler again:

Mouthwatering, isn´t it?

Ulrich .... Yes !

... just the ice cream, Garry. You need freshly picked apples for it and you don´t want to heat up the oven when is steaming hot outside.

Actually, making a good apple strudel has turned into a challenge these days, as the good old kind of apples my grandma used for making it is no longer available. The new kind lacks the "tang" you need to get that particular taste.

Ray - thanks for making that big one for me Dinner

Just found a documentary video of a train ride along the BLS, that´s the Bern-Loetschberg-Simplon Railway in Switzerland. The video shows the opening train in the year 1913!

I have been up and down this line quite a number of times, but things have changed so dramatically that ist is hard to recognize a place.

Afternoon/early evening all.

Flo, just a Barry sized RBF please. Thanks.

Weather - 85, humid today, 90+ rest of the forecasted week.

W**k - Had a scammer (failed, read on) today call 3 times in 20 minutes, but I didn't fall for it. He got quite irritated with me, but, I don't care. When stupid people try to scam others, it gets on my nerves as well. Go out, get an honest job somewhere, and make an honest living like the rest of us (myself included) do! (Sorry, I don't believe you "work for our iTunes cards supplier", nor do I believe "they are defective", so I will not be "reading you account numbers over the phone". I also seriously doubt your name is "Jason" at this point....As Al says, "I don't think so, Tim.") Now, the fun part, I need to file a report that he tried (unsuccessfully) our store, meaning paperw**k.... (Yes, Paperw**k IS a bad word...) Slow sales otherwise, but I did get a account today, bringing me to second place in the store, while I sit 4th in sales. (As of now, we are half of our plan for the day sales wise, with under 3 hours left to make up the other half....)

Well, my lunch is just about over, hope all enjoy the day!

 Afternoon Diner's

 Flo. Beer please

This morning we had more LightningLightningLightningLightningLightningLightningLightningLightning so I had a good reason to say the heck with yard work! Yes But I had been using Yard Work for the reason I did not have time to take Sue to lunch! Bang Head So I had to take her to Olive Gardens. Reason I hate to eat out I am worth less for the rest of the day! Got home and took a nap for 2 hours and I am still sleepy.

While I was away I got two calls from work. Seems Jerry at my store had a question and they all so wanted me to work at St Charles Today. No Thank You! After last week I need time to unwind! I have not had any none medical time off and to be honest I am getting burned out.

Train Front Replaced the swtich for my throw out motor to the none working turnout. Still dead! Guess it is a bad wire. So far I replaced the motor and the switch for the motor. I traced the wires and none of them are broken that I could see. But as we all know that does not mean a thing.

Cleaned the wheels of the UP F-7's. The A Unit wheels where nasty, B unit was still pretty clean? Just seems a little odd but it runs fine again.

B&O Coal Cars Picked up 3 sticks of wheel weights to get them to NMRA standerds. More than likely I will leave the horn hook couplers for now. I only have 2 Kadee #5's so I will use them for the front and rear cars. I will pick up some better wheels Thursday.

Good Afternoon,

Harry Buehrle, our club president is having a DCC camp at his shop tonight from 7-9pm. I'm taking my Red/Grey Athearn Genesis MKT F3 A-B-A set to make sure all of them are set at the correct speed.

Any of you have these units? they were released in 2005.

Those Outside braced Wood Cabooses in the"Sloan Yellow" color are so tough to track down, but I have one.

Since the katy had Green/Yellow units in the 1970's, I believe this paint scheme is from the 1950's.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a tall glass of lemonade would be great right now....  Thank you Ma'am!

I got home aq few minutes ago from camp.  Fun evening out at one of my favorite place on earth!  Ran into a few Scouters that I remember a young Scouts from many years ago.....  Now heading up troops with there kids in it.  Why do I feel so old?  I had a good exam at the Dermatologist's today.  She is changing the medication for my psoriasis and there are no growths she is worried about.  i did talk to her and showed her the bruises on my arms.  Told her I have noticed them on several older men and just wanted to know what they are...  She said not to worry most people start getting these when they reach middle age....  I thanked her strongley.  I figure i am a bit past Middle Aged now! Whistling  She thinks the skin meds I use may have started my getting bruised easily.  Only place I get them is on my arms which have some major sun damage.

Could I get an order of breaded mushrooms with my traditional blue cheese dressing? Thank you.

Hobby front: Got a surprise package this (Wednesday) morning from Walthers. I got a BN corrugated side gondola that I have placed on Advance Reservation. I wasn't expecting it to arrive until the first part of August. Another quick project to my list. (Need to prep a small piece of styrene to the width on an ACI {Kartrak} label and at least twice the heigth, paint it BN green, put the ACI labels on the piece, cut to heigth, CA to the car on each side, let cure, bill home.) Hopefully I will get the opportunity to finish it tommorow.

Good Morning!

My new Internet connection is up and running and is much faster than the previous "line". The best about this that the monthly rate is a little lower than what I had to pay so far. I also save a little on the electricity bill, as I don´t have to have the telephone base station hooked up anymore - we use only the mobile phones, which can be connected to the WiFi router.

A big sigh of relief - unthinkable not being connected to the outside world.

Jan - it looks like the Imperial Japanese Flag, but it wasn´t that - just some sort of patriotic Swiss decoration, I assume.

Here is a picture of the same inaugural train:

... and another one:

If my eyes don´t deceive me, there is the Swiss Cross (in red) in some of those flags, as well as the coat of arms of the Cantons Berne and Valais.

Will be finally working on the sound system at church this afternoon.  Then I have to get supper and head out to the museum for the monthly meeting and train rides.  This morning I picked up a case of canned food for the boys and got a couple Rx's over at the pharmacy.

Hello Railfans!

Flo - wink wink!

RR Front - Not really concerning something im doing in the hobby but I wanted to share this info.

Yesterday, im on my way to grab a bite to eat at the local beanery. To get there I have to cross a dbl track of NS main. What luck! Just as I get there the lights start flashing. I quickly set the car to park and behave mode whilest I fumble for my elusive camera phone.

Im set. Im also first in line at the gates. Ha Ha I get front row view! I could not however get the camera rolling before the blasts for the crossing so I only get a partial there. Next thing I know, i am hearing that familiar 'power steering pump' whine, and its not mine.

Would you believe some dufus right behind me is manuevering his car to get around me. Now Im facing to the left from the drivers seat (left seat in America) and have a clear view. That is, clear view to catch this idiot ON CAMERA, driving around me, then proceeding to go around the gates.

Both gates down. Lights flashing. Bells ringing. And heres an idiot leading the way for the human race. I know I uttered something 'Navy-like' and to tell you the truth i was ok missing the shot of the train in order to get this *** tete on film.

I did. Or so i thought. He made it across in time. Though I wonder when the engineer was passing by if his stare at me was a wonder.... 'did you get that low life on camera?' He didnt wave ( but then seldom do engineers now a days - i see why).

I leave the situation a bit angry, and hungry. I continue on to the restaurant so i can view the video. And per typical to my luck, between my phone and my photo abilities... the video got made, but the phone that made it cant play it. Imagine that. Even on PC, only a frame by frame advance shows the whole story.

I did get the tag number on film. Though I suspect no one will care about it. Much like the bonehead did who went against the gates didnt care. In retrospect, I have thought I should have dropped the camera and done something to block the crossing.

I think instead of promoting grade crossing safety, we should just focus efforts on lobbying railroads to have snow plows added to all locomotives. Whether they get snow or not.

In General - Been a slow week. Reloaded two PCs and built one other. Couple other calls this week to round it out. Am 5 minutes from leaving now to deliver one of the reloads.

With any luck, I will check in again later. Have a great rest of the day folks!

Douglas - this fellow is certainly eligible for the Darwin Award!

Today´s been the hottest day of the year in my neck of the woods, with temperatures exceedeing significantly the 30°C mark. Daytime high at 18.00 hrs was 34°C, that´s 93F! Way too high for me! It´s above 80F inside, which makes me feel funny in my head and "queasy" in my stomach!

We were under a thunderstorm warning with lots of lightning and hail, but that must have passed us by! No chance for getting much cooler at night and no aircon - Sigh

I have been having this crazy idea in my head - with the Gotthard line being an endangered species, wouldn´t it be nice to have a model of a really tiny stretch of it. There is a part of the line which is so typically Swiss - out of a tunnel, over a bridge into a tunnel, with the two ends connected with a "large" hidden staging facility holding maybe 6 - 8 trains. A railfan´s dream!

When I grow up and get rich, this will be the second layout I´ll be building!

Mr. Otte,

I thought you would be too young to remember the Moody Blues.

They go back to the late 60s early 70s.

After their early 1970s breakup, they got back together in 1977 and continued to record and tour into the 1990s. The first radio song that I liked enough to actually seek out who performed it was "The Voice" from their 1981 album Long Distance Voyager. My next-door-neighbor in my first college dorm had a full collection of the Moodies on vinyl, which he graciously let me record on cassette. And theirs was the first live concert I ever attended. So yeah, I remember them. Wink

My all time favorite was "Nights In White Satin" - I have fond memories attached to that song Whistling.

I never liked their later songs, though.

Still too hot! A kingdom for A/C!

Good Afternoon Diners,

Long time, no show.

Brunhilda, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.

MOH sprained her ankle a little over a week ago.  She's healing ok, but at our ages it can be a little slow.

Ah, 'tis the season for conventions.  Funny how everyone says from the GREAT STATE of ..... Fill in the blanks.  Doesn't matter what state it is, it's great!

Big Smile

Doesn't matter.  It's all going to be upstaged by the Olympics anyway.

Ulrich:  I agree with you about "Nights in White Satin."  Really a beautiful song.  I liked a few of their songs although I was never really a fan.  Most everyone remembers the Moody Blues from their "concept" albums, but their first real breakout hit was a British Invasion song called "Go Now."  I think the song was released in 1965.  They obviously took their careers a little farther.

For Father's Day, my son downloaded the entire studio album collection of Led Zeppelin on my I-phone.  It was really a treat because I hadn't heard most of those songs in years, and I used to play a lot of them in the bars back when I was doing covers.  FYI "Black Dog" is still the most fun song to play, ever!

Hello to everyone, Ulrich, YGW, Ray, Lion, V8Dennis, and everyone else whose names escape me for the moment.

I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

 Afternoon Dinners

Flo, I will take a Beer and give the Buick Guy one as well.

Did a lot of running again. What should have taken 2 hours took 3 hours.

Yard Wars. For a change I did not do a darn thing and it felt good! Checked my E-Mail and nothing from zoning so maybe they are off my Caboose I hope. Still a lot to do to make me happy but maybe I can take my time.

Train Front. Got three of the new B&O coal cars on line last night. As I said last night I am still using there Horn Hook Couplers. Used one Kadee on the front and rear coal car and the center one is totally horn hook. I forgot what a Pain in the Caboose Horn Hook can be to uncouple. But on the other hand, no coupler height problems! I did reem the trucks out and they roll pretty good.

K-10 Model Trains. Dropped by and bought 3 packs of Kdee#5 couplers and 24 Inter Mountain wheels. First time I have bought Inter Mountain wheels and I hope I like them as much as Proto 2000's. With some luck I will have 6 more on the layout by Sunday.

UP 831 Band I was in use to do Stairway to Heaven all most every time we played. My Gibson 335 handled the begaing and ending well. I all so enjoyed Claption's Concane. Most of the time we said "Propane" and the crowed never noticed. My 2 farvoits where Japen Live Somke On The Water and All Right Now! Did a lot of CCW, but I am old.

Barry Buger BBQ is done. Dinner

 Later, Ken

Douglas:

Too bad the idiot wasn't hit by the train. It's called 'natural selection' I believe.

Actually I shouldn't talk. I went around a set of crossing gates a few years ago, but it seemed to be the best choice at the time. I was on my way home from work, and it had recently started snowing. The temperature and the type of snow made the roads really slick. My route took me across the Go Train tracks in Newmarket, Ontario and the approach to the tracks was on a rather steep downhill slope. I was driving at what I thought was a reasonable speed for the conditions, i.e. quite slow, but I soon discovered that it wasn't slow enough. As I started down the hill the crossing lights came on and the crossing guards started to come down. Logically I gently stepped on the brakes. The car didn't slow down at all! In fact, it felt like it was speeding up. The ABS wasn't helping at all either. It was making things worse. Without the ABS there might have been the possibility of building enough of a snow mound in front of the tires to stop the car. I had the choice of hitting the barrier which quite possibly would have bent it into the path of the train, and maybe me along with it, or getting off the brakes and steering gently around the barrier. There were no other exit routes that didn't involve ramming another vehicle or a light pole. So, I looked at the train and decided that there was enough time to avoid crashing into anything and I decided to go around the barriers. I'm sure that all the other drivers thought I was a complete and utter (can't say the word 'butt' you know exactly what I mean).

I have to admit I was a little pale afterwards.
