 Afternoon Dinners Sigh

 Flo, Beer Please.

Sue's Dr Visit. No good news there! Her nomal Dr had a Sports Dr look at here X-Rays. Seems the bone she fractured is a slow healing bone if it heals at all, 85% chances it will not heal. If it heals, it will take 8 to 10 weeks. They took new X-Rays and there is no changes after 2 weeks.

If we can get the Insurances company let her get the Surgery done right away it will heal in about the same time frame. I am afraid they will want to see if it heals on it's own first.

Doctor all so wants her to get a Knee Scooter. Pretty much a tall scooter that you rest your knee on, you can steer it and it has brakes as well. I see nothing good come from this! My wife and mechanical things do not get a long at all!Smile, Wink & Grin I see her either busting her caboose or running over Sparkie The Rocket Dog with it. Whistling

Insurances will not pay for it either! Seems I have to rent it for $100.00 a month. While it counts toward the dectuable it is a $100.00 a month I do not have to spare.

 Later, Ken

Mornin,, an irish coffee please Flo.

KEN,,,, since you’re a veteran, you might want to check with your local American Legion or VFW, about borrowing medical equipment from them, even though you may not be a member. The best part is, it’s free or atleast it is round here.

Up early as wife had a doctors appointment.  Walked the dog, no #2 he will only do it for wifey.  Had another fist fight with Adobe Flash.  Stupid flash video ad on Broadcastify rail scanner consumed 1GB of memory.

In firefox, goto Tools/Page Info/Permissions to permanently block flash on a page.

Good morning!  (Is it still morning?  I lose track of time.)

Got the wife's stupid electric fireplace mostly assembled yesterday.  Tuesday was hockey night, so I take a nap in the afternoon and play at night.  Of course, she wanted it assembled immediately, so she first started telling me how to do it (she knows nothing of these things) so I figured, OK, she knows everything, so she can do it.  Anyway, she broke a bunch of small parts, which is why it's only "mostly assembled" after I took over.

Galaxy, I know what you mean about hanging you upsided down like a bat.  The funny thing is that it might work.  Most of my coughs are actually head colds, nasal things that make me cough because all the goo drips down the back of my throat.  I sometimes lie on my stomach with my head between two pillows, face down, so that the mucus doesn't drip on my throat and the cough stops right away.  Once I know that it's not a lung thing at all, I go with Benadryl, Zyrtec or Claratin to dry up my nose.

It was cold last night.  Our daughter spends a few nights with us each week because she's going to school.  I moved my car outside and let her have the garage so she'd have a warm car when she leaves in the pre-dawn darkness.

We all went out for sushi last night.  We got the giant "Sushi Boat for Three" which we almost finished.  Annie will take the leftovers to school today for lunch.  I suggested that she take a pair of chopsticks with her, but she reminded me, "Dad, I'm going to acupuncture school.  Our lunchroom has more chopsticks than forks."

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

It's sunny and 15 here in wonderful Libertyville and/or North Chicago.

Havin' another Starbucks pod from my office Keurig in my chipped Chessie System mug.  It's alright, I have a fancier setup at home with a burr grinder and everything.

I'm still missing David Bowie today, it seems strange to have world without him.  He was an inspiration to me in highschool, where I was picked on a lot.  He made it okay to be a wierdo.  I'll also miss anticipation of the next David Bowie release.

I've been doing the rest of my decoder installs, and just got a SPROG III controller for my layout.  It's pretty terrific and very responsive compared to the old Roco unit.  I've got a big oval tacked down on semi-loose foam board on the layout.  It does okay, and I run it at slow speeds.

My roommate announced his leaving at the end of February, so I'll be getting his room for trains :)  I can't go too nuts this year, or sadly on any vacations, because the woman and I are planning to get a house next year hopefully.

It's funny you mention sushi, I've been making that at home the last couple of nights.  It gets easier every time you do it.  I started with california rolls.  I still haven't got it right but at least my lady is enjoying it.

What I was shocked at was how much sushi you can get out of a $1.79 package of crab meat, an avacado, one cucumber, and 2 cups of rice. We were both full when only about half of that was made into rolls.  The trick is having a good work surface and good knives.

Morning diners,

If your talking about the BLI E8 YGW. I don't have a digital camera and a photobucket to load it up.

I decided to make templates of coaches for G.N.O. Railway business executive train with colored pencils. I only did two. One looks like CSX and the other one the Chesapeake and Ohio upside down.

Afternoon folks....

Wow, Zoe!  The place is busy today....  Nice to see.  I just need another pot of Dark Roast coffee for the moment.  I'll order lunch in a bit.

I'm busy getting all the odds and ends done that need to get done for the MLK March and Service next Monday.  Art and Poetry entries get picked up from the schools today and we will sort them by age group and give them to a group of judges.  Each judge chooses 3 entries from the pile they have and then on Saturday, all the judges decide on first, second, and third for each catagory and age group.  Then I will get to print out certificates for each student, permission to use slips, and put the prize money into envelopes for each one.

YGW The Prius does quite well driving in snow as far as I can see.  In ECO (Economy) Mode it has a very soft touch on the accelerator letting me give just enough power to do the job without loosing traction.  It is better than the pick-up trucks (2 wheel drive) were but no where as good as the old VW Bugs were.....  Certainly not as good as a Foe wheeeeelllll Draaaahve getting started, but like most cars it has 4 wheel braking so stopping is just as good as them other thingies.....  WhistlingLaugh  Too much power is more of a problem on snow (and ice) than too little power.  The trick is too not spin a wheel.  Learned that 60 years ago on the farm!

Galaxy, you and my cats....  Hairball city in here!

Catch you all later!

Good Afternoon,

A sunny -7F right now is Winterpeg. At least the wind is very light.

Galaxy, sure hope you get better soon.

Ran a train for a while last night, the Mike on a mixed.

Well tomorrow at 7:30 I find out the results of the prostate biopsy I had last month. I hope it turns out ok.

Just about time for Bondi Vet, so I think I will brew a coffee and sit down to that. We are watching the little TV in the bedroom as I haven't finished hooking up the new TV. The stand was delivered yesterday afternoon.

Whistling

Hi Ya All,

Just sitting here at work, very slow day, so am reading the forums.

Fairly mild here today and lightly snowing.. We got about two inches of the white stuff last night. It is supposed to get much colder over the week-end, so hang in there CN.Charlie, you might want to get that new TV hooked up as I don't think you'll be wanting to go anywhere.  Also Blind Bruce and Seamonster,  You might want to dig out your long woolies as you will most likely need them.

Been doing a bit of Rip Track work lately, tune ups and couplers with a few new metal wheels on some cars.  Added a bit of weight to a couple that were causing the odd problem.  The Elevated station is lit and in place now just to do some landscaping and other structures below it. Some of which I have built and some I will build over the next while.

I have everything ready for my air brush. a dedicated compressor with new control and filter, the only thing lacking is a spray booth. Been looking at some you tube videos about making one.. Not sure if that is the route to go.I have a few days off after today other than putting in 3 hours on Sat. night. so maybe I'll get to the train room if the honey doos don't get to me first.

Hope all the patients are improving, Galaxy, Ulrich, Kelly and others, our prayers are continuing for you speedy recovery.

Br. Elias,  I hope you had as good a trip as it could be under the circumstances.

Well, I going to have to start my rounds soon so I had better get off the Puter and look the part.

Hope you all have a good week end and that you can stay smiling,    Smile, Wink & Grin

Hello all

Very busy day. I am not very computer savy and I have recieved a new to me computer at work with wndows ten. It is very different from my pre windows 7 puter. I think the next few weeks computer wise is going to be very difficult ! I think I will keep the ancient machine close by it will work in a pinch.

Johnboy - Sounds like a good day to do RIP !

Galaxy - I am glad they are setting you FREE !

Howmus - Are you getting a ddrraaaawwwwlllll Surprise? I would think that everyone up north would own nothing but 4 drives because of the weather. It sounds like a bunch have 2 wheel drives ? Why would anyone want two wheel drives with the amount of snow you receive ?

Angel - what a shame I was looking forward to seeing your new items

Fiery turbo - SPROG III What is that ?

Mr. B. - WHAT ! Electric fireplace ? What in tarnation is THAT !

V8 - I am impressed that you knew who Don Garlis is. I assumed that mostly folks here in the south east where racing is huge would only know that

Bid Daddy - That is strange thing with your dog. What does your wife do differnt that you dont do ?

BO Cylinder - Glad you are okay know. Geez that was close one ! Here goes a Angel for you and hope that doesnt happen again !!

Garry, Inch, Lion, Der, Ulrich - Hello !

Howmus I missed your welcome, thanks.  My model railroading ended when I gave my ex the house 17 years ago.  A new grandson and a train around the Christmas tree rekindled my interest just a couple weeks ago and prompted me to open several boxes of stuff salvaged nearly 20 years ago.  DCC is a lot to learn. So far my ideas are all on paper and not share-worthy as of yet.  For now I am planning a small portable layout because:

a)    The political climate in my state makes Bernie look like a conservative

b)    One day the 2nd floor master bedroom will be inaccessible

c)     I had to put my mother in assisted living last year and I don’t want to leave my wife and kids with the crap she had squirreled away in her house.

V8Vega I remember models of Don Garlits’s hotrods.  Last I checked a hotrod will set you back $50K and that was 6 years ago.

Yougottawanta  The easy ones have been just grinding off the coupler pocket, removing the weight and cutting away anything that would interfere with the screw, plugging the truck bolster hole (on those were the horn hook is part of the trucks and the trucks are held on by a plug into the bottom of the car)with scrap sprue so I can drill it for 2-56 screw and real trucks.  Someone suggested a jig to drill out the Athearn knobs in the coupler pocket.  That tool is on the way.  I’ll keep you posted.

Ulrich, hope you are well.  I was reading some of your old posts this weekend.  You were starting a new shelf layout.  What became of that?

Good Evening.

Went for a mall walk this afternoon and found I can walk for a long distance...around the mall 4 times!! Now, to keep that going. Whistling

My sister told me that she still has my original Lionel set from way back when I was about 7 years old. And my trainset will be back home with me on Monday...

I also found I have two whole photoboxes of old photos I took from the train station in Woodstock and from the footbridge...from around the same time period. Things are coming back to roost here. Whistling

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

Boy I am beat.Sigh Had 4 hours of running today to get the needed things done or payed for.

Picked up the Death Scooter! Sue moves faster on the cane! Laugh

Train Front Picked up the needed Atlas Switch Machine and had just strated to get it ready to wire! Big Smile Then I heared Sue calling my name. Sigh Never got it done. Bang Head

First Atlas Engine! Yes Picked it up at K-10 Model Trains. B&O GP-38 with DCC. While pre-owned it seemed New In The Box, DC jumper was still installed, grap irons and pilot still in there bags. Read the CV's andI have question?

Seems there is no CV 5 (top speed) or CV 6 (Mide Range) so how do you speed match it? Was using Decoder Pro to read the CV's. Instursction sheet said the address was set at the last to numbers of the engine, in this case 4811 so address was 11. Changed it to 48 and tried to run it. Only thing I could control was the lights?

I will take it apart Friday (If I Have Time) and try spinning the motor over. I have no ideas how old it is. If that does not work, any other ideas?

Inch 53 I will check with the VFW, thank you for the idea.

 Later, Ken

Mr. B. - WHAT ! Electric fireplace ? What in tarnation is THAT !

To me, a useless waste of money.  But the wife loves the fool thing.  It's just a piece of furniture with an insert that simulates a fireplace.  It's got a pair of 40-watt bulbs and some rotating stuff, I'd guess, that makes it look like there's a fire in there.  The effect isn't bad, for what it is.  It's also got a space heater so it can seem real.  The good news is that at least it doesn't need a chimney, just 120 volts and hopefully not too many amps.  (It should be OK, but you never know what else is on a circuit.)

BOCylinder - Are you excited about getting your old Lionel back ? Which one is it ?

Terry - Here is a Angel for the family of your friends and yourself. Very sorry to hear about this.

(Following is being posted with the blessing of YGW.)

For those of you still wishing to help with YouGottaWanta's Sister-in-Law, here is a direct way to contribute. The church taking contributions is the Battlefield Baptist Church. If you go to their website, battlefieldbaptist.org, click on the "Give" link, then scroll to the bottom and click on the "Give My Offering" button, you will be taken to the online donation page. Click on the "Quick Give" link, enter the amount, and select the "Other" fund/category. In the "Additional Information" field, enter "A gift for Kelly." As YGW stated, all of the contribution will be used to help Kelly's family. Also, using this method you will receive an email receipt for your contribution which can be used for documenting your charitable contribution on your taxes.

If you would prefer to send a check directly to the church, their contact information is on the "Contact" page and again you would annotate that it is "A gift for Kelly." Hope this helps.

galaxy
Well, I am home now.

"Welcome Home Mr. DuAuberg!"  -G. F. Händel to the Tenor Soloist in one of the early performances of "The Messiah".  The Tenor loved to improvise in the common style of the day and completely lost his place in the music but managed to find the correct last pitch on the final chord.  Händel's announcement was done in a very loud stage whisper.  Glad you broke out of the Horsepiddle and hope getting a bit more rest will get you feeling better quickly.

YGW, on your question about 4 wheel drive (aka: AWD included), really not any advantage 99% of the time to having one around here unless you are: 1. in a business like plowing driveways, 2. do a lot of off road playing with vehicle, 3. live way out in the boonies on a back country road that isn't taken care of, 4. are a Farmer who needs them for working on the land, or 5. just like to act the big shot out on the road when everything is officially closed from the weather. (Yeee Haaa!  hey everybody, watch this!)  Frankly in bad weather you see more AWD vehicles stuck in the ditch because they become overly confident of what they think the vehicle can do.  What they can't do is stop any better than a 2 wheel drive regular car or truck.  You will find significantly more AWD where the Lake Effect is constant.  In those areas they are worth the extra costs of owning one.  Around here we have something called "Snow Plows".  They are big old dump trucks, with huge front plows and wing plows and carry tons of salt they spread in the road.  They appear to have two major functions around here.  Function #1 is to move the snow out of the roadways.  Function #2 is to dump it into peoples driveways that they just dug out (by hand or with snowblowers...)  Here is an example of #2 at my house:

Somewhere under that is my mailbox that I had just dug out.......

I have been getting a lot of stuff ready for the judging of the Art and Poetry Contest at Trinity Episcopal (the Host Church for the MLK Service and Dinner this year) tomorrow.

I have to say something that will probably bring ire from our esteemed leader.

I have in the past suggested that we help those who needed help, desperately, coming down to dangerous helath reasons if we did not. It was never questioned how it was handled, and many stepped up to the plate.

I have been as low as being homeless, sleeping on generous friend's couches and eating at the food kitchens and food pantries' food handouts. NO one, in my family would help out and i was in seriuos medical needs too. Many of you know I am now on, nad have been on, SSDI, based on my past earnings records. I see value in giving when i can, even when it hurts. I believe in it. I even empty the bank account of all remianing $$ at the end of the month when our bills are paid! I NEVER wait for a "tax deduction"! AND, YES THe GOvernment DOES grant them!

I feel VERY FORTUNATE to be where I am today, where I CAN give back. I find, that when I give to the universe, it often gives back to me, often when I least expect it and most need it!

It seems some here, have questioned my efforts, and seek ONLY to get a "tax advantage" for a donation,  or a route by which to bypass any funds going "anywhere they may not be  adequately redistributed" to the "proper party". As though I have an interest in skimming some off. It can be done any number of ways, and 100% of all sent my way to be forwarded.....I remind you all....at a time when NO OTHER ORGANIZATION stepped up to collect funds of any kind beyond christmas presents and clothing......a reminder...I WAS THE ONLY AND FIRST ONE TO SUGGEST We {OR SOMEONE} do something....and that my integrity should be questioned, or that a donation be only instituted "if one can get a proper tax deduction" is ridiculous!!!!

What happened ot good old "CARING FOR FELLOW MANKIND"?

There are SO MANY "GO FUND ME" sites made up by sheisters, theives and scammers out there, that I would GLADLY send off to a member of a tight group such as ours, who steps forward to take the burden of doing so for someone of us, that i felt I could trust to NOT be telling a tall tale just to get the almighty $$ sent their way.

I mean seriously...

THINK about it.

If all you want is a tax deduciton, or DON'T trust someone here {ME}, then DON'T DONATE. SIMPLE.

sheesh.

FOr those who HAVE: rest assured 100%% will go{actually more as I am including MY additional funds too} i will structure it so your donations will be counted, and you WILL {or should} get a tax deduction notice...just to ease your minds.

I don't know how it will apply to the canadian donors.

Thank you every one who CARES without stipulations to donate to someone hwo should never have been battered, beaten, set fire too and lost everything. YOU all have HEARTS, apparently some here DON'T, or have strings attached.

sheesh

Galaxie,

I may be overly dense, but I did't read anything into any comments that would in any way cast doubt on your intent to be of help in this or past situations.  If there are some with questions, I'm afraid it's in large part due to "help where help is needed" no longer being an overriding factor over "deductability".  I have 100% confidence that my donation is going exactly where it was indicated, and urge others that are able, to contribute likewise.  SIL will surely appreciate the care, concern, and love shown her by YGW's "train buds".

Galaxy,

Just checking. Are you calling me out for offering an alternative means of contributing?
