 Evening Dinners

 Flo, BeerPlease

Very Mixed Day today! First mess up, I left the interior lights on in my car over night. Dead as a door nail, so I was 10 mintues late to work. Was sort of busy and had a OK day in sales. Would have been a good day, but Paul would not approve a offer on a King Matt, it was $50.00 to low so she would not pay the extra $50.00.

Between customers and still doing the year end inventory I messed up! Bang Head Had a late customer in at 7:30 PM and he did buy! I forgot to send in my store order! Bang Head Had the dang thing done, just forgot to fax it! Whistling I will be going in early Tuesday so I can get a order.

Galaxy - Cardio diet is not a diet - THAT diet = starvation ! I had a heart episode and spent a week in ICU many years ago. I tell you the cardio diet rations was = to starvation ! How can they expect one to survive on that ?

Ken - Yep see those heart diets are awful- how can one survive on 1/3 rations ? Not to mention it is bland, tasteless, colorless....

Howmus CN Charlie - you will be amused to hear that they are talking about snow flurries here and ALREADY they are talking school closings ! LaughEmbarrassed

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I need a pot of Seneca Lake Dark Roast Coffee to keep my R&GV RR Mug filled for a while and a couole of those frosting filled chocolate covered donuts...  whatever they are called...

Galaxy and others.... the conversation about the diets in the horspiddles reminds me of when my Mother was in assisted living.  Every once in a while she would fall in her apartment and be taken to the hospital as a precaution.  Once there the doc on duty would see that she was an insulin dependent diabetic and write an order for "THE DIET"!  Then a day later when she came back to the Assisted Living facility she would be accompanied by the order for "THE DIET".  She wouldn't notice anything for a few days until they had........  PIE for dessert.  Everyone else at her table would get pie and she would be given a piece of ground up sawdust and cardboard with no taste and they called it.....  "A Cookie!"  She would immediately throw a major hissy fit and loudly announce she wanted PIE!!!!  The poor girls in the dining hall who have to follow the Doctors ORDER would try and try to explain why she had to have a "Cookie" while everyone else got PIE!  That only made Mom more angry, disagreeable and much louder!  This would go on a few times and Mom would not remember to tell us when we visited until finally in despairation the "powers that be" would contact us.  We would tell them to just give her pie and that she is 86 years old...  Who Cares!  Of course legally that doesn't work, so off we go over to her regular Doctor who says, "What?  Who the heck cares if she has a piece of pie?"  He then writes a rescinding order stating "No diet restrictions!" that we hand deliver to "The Powers That Be" at the living center with private orders to let us know every time the idiot doctor at the Horsepiddle writes another diet limiting food order for a very old demented lady that happens to be our Mother.  This got repeated every couple of months for 4 years.  After she broke her hip and fell,  (most likely in that order.) she ended up in the County Nursing Home.  We mentioned that to the Doctor there and he made sure that Mom could eat anything she wanted!  Period!

Today I get to take the PiP in for its 35,000 mile service (which consists of rotating the tires).  They also will do the NYS Inspection while it is there which consists of checking the tires, looking at one of the brake pads (on the PiP brakes tend to go bad at, oh...  About 150,000 miles), making sure all the LED lights still work, and....  Ah, well, that is it for a PiP.  No emissions tests as it is a PHEV so they don't have to do that.  I will have them fill up the battery for free while I'm there as well. Smile, Wink & Grin

I also have to drop off a bunch of checks for the MLK Scholarship at a bank in Canandaigua when I drive through and have a bunch of other things to get done today.  Guess I better go get some of those things done.  Catch you all Later!

Afternoon Diners,

I received my BLI NYC boxcar yesterday and I wrote to the company on why the boxcar and the box that it was in was wrong. They told me that they changed the numbers during the production and forgot to change them on the boxes.

Today I bought a powerball ticket for tomorrow that might be worth something or nothing.

V8Vega
but this was only a mile from me and at a intersection I travel often.

- that is altogether too close to home Dennis! Glad you're safe.  Pot luck is pretty much always good - whatever the reason!

Speaking of food, we had small taco bowls for the guaquamole, sour cream and salsa to accompany lightly broiled basa filets last night - it was so good that, since we have one more avacado left, we're going to repeat the mix with a shrimp stir fry! Dinner
YGW
DER - What is the goal for your layout ?
I'd like to have continuous running and some switching. With an interchange track by means of which trains can be added or removed, I wouldn't need to make up or break down trains - besides, I don't know enough about the "proper" way that's done to provide the necessary trackage. I found on the last layout that trying to figure out the order in which a train had to be made up became very like w*rk; and someone is reputed to have said "Model Railroading is fun"!  For the switching, I removed from my last layout my version of (John Allen's?) "Timesaver" That's 4'4" track length + approach track - which had been on a grade but doesn't have to be. I reckon that if I use doors for a baseboard, covered with 1" foam. my saved scenery will just fit right in! So, there's my general goals: Fun, not w*rk; continuous running; did I mention passenger and frieght, so probably a station or two; switching including the Timesaver and its associated industries. Scale is N = Normal; Era = I have some diesels, but not much else by way of rolling stock left (sold off much when I dropped out)  Hope that answers the question - your thoughts andlayout ideas welcome.

Well I spoke too soon, it is changing from balmy to a mind numbing windchill of -40 for tomorrow morning which is the same number in C or F. As luck would have it my wife has a doctor appointment in the morning.

I will be happy to share,

CN Charlie We are beginning to get some of that chill - but nothing like THAT ...yet!

Ken I'm feeling a bit as you must re BoS. My car insurrance company has begun to give me the run-around about our daughter who drives a car we bought for her but which is in our name (to protect her from any attempts to defraud her by various wierdos of her acquaintance) Anyway, she was in a fender-bender last February and the other driver reported it to their insurance- but no claimm was generated. In all of that, it turns out that my insurrance were going to cancell her covereage without telling either her or me! I only found out by phoning about another matter! Can't wait for the customer satisfaction survey which any call to them seems to generate!!!

Sounds like what happened to me when I was first diagnosed with diabetes back in the early 80s. The "Diabetes Education Clinic" to which I was sent put me on (what Ray so aptly refers to as) THE DIET with zero regard to either my metabolism rate (high) or my body type (slight). So since in their eyes diabetic = overwieght and needs exercise; I was put on a regimen which before long required medical intervention to prevent complications of malnutrition! Not a pretty sight (but then when was I ever? LOL)

On Powerball - that's run up to a crazy amount. Why not just create 1300 new milionaires with 1M each - there's surely over that number of tickets sold! Anyway angelb6660 the best of luck with that.

Spurred on by uncovering that section of track, I think I'll go and see what else I have in storage left over from the sale....may drop in later.

Well the news got worse! I have STREP on top of pneumonia! I came back positive for strep throat. Which explain s why it is so dryand scratch y.

I guess maybe tomorrow I go home?

YGW: there are 3 hospital s in this area that complete for " best food " . so they offer ala carte of aselect per diet menu, offer to deliver at odd times if you arrive odd. Etc. Then they usually have sandwiches in the floor for late night snacks too.

I finally get my real shower and cough drops. Too.

YGW: PIP is RAYs loving name for hisPlug In Prius! Proud papa he is!

Well off to better things like water and saop.

What is PIP ?

PiP (Capitol P little i and Capitol P) is an Acronym for Plug In Prius.  Sometimes I can run in EV (Electric Vehicle) and sometimes I use the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine).   All very common Geek Speak out in the world of Green vehicles... Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh

Well, the PiP passed inspection.  I really worry about the emissions test... NOT.  It doesn't get one being an PHEV (Plugin Hybred Electric Vehicle).  I did find out that one tire is barely legal....  Will be looking into getting a new set soon.  There is a site online that has recomendations on which tires will give me the best balance between traction and efficiency.  I'll take that info and head downtown to a local tire store for them (I know the owner and the manager of the store and like to give them my business).

I was just waiting for the PiP to come off the charger when there was a monster whiteout going on outside (LES - Lake Effect Snow).  Looking out the dealership windows you couldn't see the cars across the driveway!  I put my coat on and walked out to the service booth.  The advisor looked at me laughed and said, think we should unplug you?  The snow had just let up, I nodded my head and backed it out of the plugin bay.  The roads were a real mess.  We got a little over an inch of snow in less than 10 minutes and what cars had been over the roads just turned it into a glare of ice.  I not only had little traction but little braking either.  I took things real easy and made it over to my sisters house.  She wasn't there, so I left the box she needed between her doors and headed out.  Decided to take my usual route home.  Lots of tracks going off the road, across the otherside and then back across the road...  No cars in the ditch.  Even people who live here don't know how to drive in the stuff.  I was followed by a pair of School Busses who were being followed by a line of cars in a hurry...  I had no trouble and neither did the busses who stayed a ways back like they should.  Got all the way to Geneva (16+ miles) and turned onto Pre-emption Rd. and both lanes are filled and running very slow.  some big ol' SUV done runned across the highway and got nailed by a pick'em up truck...  Niether one of them was going to go anywhere on their own....  I got around them when my turn came and pulled all the way over so an emergency vehicle (probably fireman) could have the middle of the road to get to the accident.  As I got out of the PiP at home (less than a mile away) I could hear sahreeeewns blaring good and loud.....  Hopefully all the people in the accident are alright.

PiP is charging outside at the moment.  Made it Canandaigua and back and only lost one mpg for this tank.  It says I am getting 79mpg at the moment, was 80 when I left home.

OK, dealt with a pile of emails, fed the kitties, made a reply here.  Now I'm going to see what is going on down cellar on the SLOW.

Later!

Geez where did everybody go ? Lion ? Jeremy ? Rideonroad ? ....Do I smell bad or something ? I take a shower at least once a month ! Ick!

Galaxy - 363 is pretty bad. Hope they get that under control pretty quickly. I laughed out loud at your comment about Rays PiP proud pappa. Hope you get home soon.

Howmus - PiP how does it drive in the snow ? Does the extreme cold cause the battery to drain quicker ? With out a full time engine how does it generate heat to thaw ice off of the windshield and keep the occupants from truning into popsickles ? Last question Pruis owners around here have a very BAD RAP for getting in the passing lane and staying there which blocks through traffic from moving on. I often imagine ways to attach fork lift tongs on the front of my vehicle to flip them out of the way when stuck behind one. I understand driving slower in bad weather that is a given. But middle of the day , in the 80s and sunshine...? Why is that Prius drivers do that ?

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee for my R&GV RR Mug.  Bring over a couple sour cream glazed donuts to dunk as well, Please.

According to the Weather People it is mostly clouidy outside.  So far here at my house the sun  has been shining all morning.  Hope it continues to do that all day...  Currently 19°F with a high around 21°F this afternoon.  May get a few sn*w showers, but nothing serious...

[color-red]Galaxy[/color], hope you are recovering from the infections well and get to go home soon!  Glad the horspiddle food is palitable...  My biggest problem with it (whenever i have been visiting anyone at meal time) is that it is now always served on trash!  Personally i try not to eat anything served to me on "Trash".....

YGW...  LOL you have some very "loaded" questions there, but I will try to answer them honestly!

yougottawanta
PiP how does it drive in the snow ?
Depends on what you are comparing it to.  Not nearly as good as a 10 wheeler snowplow with chains loaded with several tons of salt...  Laugh  But just as good or better than my old Dodge Dakotas and better than the Yaris did.  It is front wheel drive so the weight of the engine, drivetrain and propulsion electric motor is over the front wheels which helps with the traction in most circumstances (note I said "Most")  The computer antiskid system on the Toyota is considerably better than the Dodges used to be.  Yesterday when I was skidding (just like everyone else) I finally brought it under control by just keeping my foot firmly on the brakes and let the computer stop the car.  As soon as I did that, the car stopped skidding, straightened out, and stopped.  I was brought up knowing full well how to pump the brakes in a skid and how to steer properly!

yougottawanta
Does the extreme cold cause the battery to drain quicker ?

Yes.... But.........  Only because in extremely cold weather all types of cars need more energy to move.  My estimated distance I have in pure EV does go down in winter (but the battery still hold 4.4 kW of electric).  I will lose a couple miles from the average.  But Gas Milage on regular ICE cars do too in approximately the same %.  Driving through slush and snow takes more energy.  Pushing a vehicle through cold air (cold air is more dense) lowers gas milage.  All the moving parts are colder and so create more friction when cold, lowering gas milage.  Most people driving an ICE powered car don't pay much attention to these factors.  With the PiP you notice as you see the amount of pure EV go down a bit quicker.  There is also a built in safety thing to prevent damage to the battery which limits how much electricity can be used according to the battery temperature.  This time of year it becomes a game to prevent the ICE from starting.... Smile, Wink & Grin  I usually lose...  Once the battery has warmed itself up, it works like it does all summer.

yougottawanta
With out a full time engine how does it generate heat to thaw ice off of the windshield and keep the occupants from truning into popsickles ?

This one made me grin...  First off when it is really cold outside the ICE fires up almost immediately when you power on.  Turning on the "Climate Control System" will start the ICE if it is cold out.  You will still be using a blend of electric and gasoline to move the car, but the engine warms up to provide heat.  (In a pure EV and some other PHEVs heat is electric.  Air conditioning and seat heat is Electric in the PiP.)  Once the engine warms up to temperature, it will shut off.  No problem as a pump still circulates the hot water, and the PiP (and all Priuses I believe) have a large thermos bottle with water that is hot.  This provides a longer period of time providing heat to the inside of the car before the ICE fires up to reheat the water.  Gas engine will cycle on and off as needed to do that. As a side note it takes about the two large eggs worth of gasoline to warm the ICE up to running temperature.  It also heats up far faster than any other car I have owned.

yougottawanta
Last question Pruis owners around here have a very BAD RAP for getting in the passing lane and staying there which blocks through traffic from moving on. Why is that Prius drivers do that ?

OK...  This is the really "Loaded One".  I always found it was old people driving Cadidleyackackackkkks that did that....  WhistlingLaugh  I don't find that to be true at all on the NYS Thruway and I drive it a lot.  I have seen almost all makes and models of cars doing that and get just as upset as you even though I am driving my PiP!  I think people tend to notice what they already believe to be true which reinforces what may be false ideas....  More likely age plays a part in this, as does not having any sense of being polite to other drivers.  People using Cruise Control is a big factor as well.  They just assume they have more right to the road than everyone else....  Frankly I have had the PiP up to well over 90mph on the Thruway to get out of the way of some idiots because...  Well just because.  (Top Speed limited by the computer is 112mph on the PiP.  Plenty fast enough!) What ticks me off are the people who roar past me when I am way behind a truck (that I am overtaking) then slow down to just above the trucks speed to pass...  I then catch up and have to step on the brake and slow way down while they inch past the truck and then roar up to speed again.  Personally I want to slingshot past the truck and tend to step on the gas to get by a bit quicker, then settle back to the slightly over the speed limit I was driving in the Right Hand Lane.... I don't want to spend a lot of time driving next to an 18 or 34 wheel vehicle. I also want to know where every vehicle is anywhere near to mine at all times and accordingly drive defensively and safely!  Just my My 2 Cents

Have a good one out there!

Good morning ...

Ray .... I suppose I'm at the other end of the spectrum with vehicle fuel economy. My Chevy Avalance has the GM Big Block 8.2 L V8.  I have no trouble pulling trailers when I need to. I never calculate the MPG.

Model Railroading ... Currently, I have a little project. Assmbling another Jordan kit for baggage wagons. I have made one of these kist before. Two wagons are in each kit.

Lunch was a bit tough beef and gravy with boiled red skinned taters,Mac & cheese, vanilla banana cream parfait. Coffee and tea.

Trying to nap now but do many interruptions.

Well welcome to big Daddy.. In some around these parts I am known as big Daddy... Short and fat big Daddy.. Maybe why my sugar so high...

 Afternoon Dinners Sigh

 Flo, Beer Please.

Sue's Dr Visit. No good news there! Her nomal Dr had a Sports Dr look at here X-Rays. Seems the bone she fractured is a slow healing bone if it heals at all, 85% chances it will not heal. If it heals, it will take 8 to 10 weeks. They took new X-Rays and there is no changes after 2 weeks.

If we can get the Insurances company let her get the Surgery done right away it will heal in about the same time frame. I am afraid they will want to see if it heals on it's own first.

Doctor all so wants her to get a Knee Scooter. Pretty much a tall scooter that you rest your knee on, you can steer it and it has brakes as well. I see nothing good come from this! My wife and mechanical things do not get a long at all!Smile, Wink & Grin I see her either busting her caboose or running over Sparkie The Rocket Dog with it. Whistling

Insurances will not pay for it either! Seems I have to rent it for $100.00 a month. While it counts toward the dectuable it is a $100.00 a month I do not have to spare.

 Later, Ken

Hey Galaxy.  Hope you get out of jail soon.  I'm not so big any more after heart surgery.  The only time I lost weight and kept it off.  More like Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, curmudgeonly kind of guy.

On the model railroad front I continue to play with SCARM but am not coming up with any ideas worth sharing.  I'm trying to design a 2x6-8 portable layout that will eventually be part of a layout that will permit continuous running, but not fill up an entire room.  Meanwhile the Adobe Flash on this site has been locking up my computer.  I've never had the best of luck with Flash but today even Ctl Alt Del wouldn't work.

Meanwhile I am rehabing my non working Kadees and eliminating all the horn hook couplers forever. Reading up on DCC and waiting for slightly warmer weather so I can test out my repaired airbursh and work on some weathering.

Evenin' folks....

Nothing for me right now Janie, I just had some left over fried chicken and half a baked Acorn Squash with butter and brown sugar for supper to go along with the pot of decaf I brewed...

Garry, you probably don't want to know your gas milage is with that beast! Laugh  On the other hand one thing you are not supposed to do with any Prius is tow a trailer.  There is a hitch made for it and I know of people who have towed light trailers even with the PiP.  There is something in the manual about voiding the warranty......... Whistling  The car has plenty of power to pull a light trailer, but something about the specific unibody construction that they worry about.  Back when I was pulling a 2 ton trailer, I had the Dakota to do it....  I bought the Yaris after doing some measuring with the seats down to make sure I could carry evertything I needed to do recordings on location in the back of it.  Even that was a whole lot better on gas than the Dakota.  Ya gotta match the vehicle to the job!

Galaxy, if you are becoming diabettic that would possibly explain why your immune system is letting you catch some things....  Something to keep a watch on, my friend.  I will wait until you are well and back home to send out something to you.

BigDaddy, welcome aboard the diner car.  Feel free to tell us more about who you are and what you do with Model Railroading.  You will find us to be a friendly bunch.  Just stay off the forbidden topics (Religous views, politics, name calling, and such).  In the back of the diner is where "Vinny" the bouncer resides.  You don't want to have a "friendly" conversation with Vinny!  He is known to bend crowbars with his bare hands and enforces the rules quite firmly!!!   "What Vinny?"  "Oh nothing, just having a nice conversation with the new guy...."  "No. No!  Didn't call you for anything.... Ah, I said my ears are "tinny" tonight, that's all...."  (Whew.....)

I stopped at the local Tire and Repair shop here in town while making the rounds today and got an estimate on 4 new Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tires for the PiP.  They were spot on for the price I figured they would be after checking online.  They will get put on next Tuesday.  Also stopped at the vet to get a prescription for syringes for Blackie for his insulin, picked them up at the pharmosy, and then to the Credit Union to get cash to pay the band for the MLK Service next Monday.  Also picked up a few more pictures of dead presidents for myself while I was there.

Catch you all later!

Ray, they think and I hope it's just the steroids ( salumedrol) if you look it up in web MD it tells of such risings if blood sugar butalso states it can cause diabetes too.

My immune system is so low that anything can sneak in and take over!

I am desperate ly hoping sugar will return to normal after stopping thesalumedrol steroids.

Well have a great night.

I have seen y'all struggling with diabetes and don't want it!!!

Evening Diners,

Galaxy - I hope your blood sugar goes back to normal soon.

Garry - It's a very good freight car. It matches the rest of the fleet without being super detailed.I do have a E8 Amtrak set from them and the locomotive has bent and paint chipping off the brass hand rails on both units. The real reason I don't buy super detailed locomotives.

YGW - We'll see later tonight if it's worth anything.

All other news I'm praying for you guys.

Train News: I bought two trailers a Burlington Northern Expeditor and a Southern Pacific Golden Pig both for $27 dollars

Well guys

I am thoroughly depressed.

I have spent literally the last 21 of the last 24 hours coughing or trying to cough up a lung or two. The crap in there is anything you NOT moving out for love nor money nor love of money!

We have tried everything. I have ciughed up maybe two lugies all day/ night. I slept nsught for coughing. I will NOT be going home today as I am still drowning in my own fluid.

The only thing we haven't tried is hAnging ms upside down and i may strongly suggest it!!!!!!

I am physically exhausted, emotionally drained and totally corrupted I think too!

I definitely have lost and regained dignity...thT goes with the territory. Everybody wants all your clothes off you naturally then give you the skimpiest thing for abig fat man to TRY to wear to " cover up' lol. I don't have a problem there folks, let s keep it chest level?!!

Grr

So here I sit another drool day in  my still life.

Wonder how Ulrich is fairing.??

Oh goodie a lugies just finally came up maybe there is hope

I should be planning a track plan,!??

But itd be only be scraps of scribblrvin napkins here.

I know what I want continuous loops all around the 6 x8 or 8 x10 with center pit. It should have a fiddle yard on one side, a business district on the other ( long sides) and a engine facility on one end to play fiddle service store and rotate engines when not in use. A nic country farm in the other short end . tall order, I know!!!?

Well I lay down to try to sleep till breakfast comes along and not cough all the way til then!!!?

Gotta get that crap up really?

Good Morning

Just got out from pris--I mean, hospital--whew that was close.

My heart took a dumper and I collapsed into my bathroom sink...so, now I am sporting a wonderful collection of bruises for my viewing pleasure.

Galaxy: I just read your about your misadventure...I was coughing up pieces of my lung but from a different reason...I also had my lungs filled with fluid...which caused my heart to take a dumper. Angel Angel for you. Take care!!

Angel - Where are the pictures of the latest additions ? Lets see them Smile, Wink & Grin

Howmus - shewww I thought Vinney was coming after you ! You know that guy is like a powder keg sometimes Grumpy. Myu father used to say a VW Bug was one of the best things in snow. Disregarding ice how does the PiP do in just snow ? That is very fasinating about the way it heats ! I share your frustration about drivers and the big truck comment Super Angry.

BigDaddy - HELLO - Welcome to this thread ! How are you replace the horn hook couples interested in your method Welcome

Ken - can you find a used one on Craigslist or ebay ?

Garry - those things arent measured in miles per gallon. They measure gallons per mile ! Probably pass everything except a gas station Smile, Wink & Grin

V8 - Man that was nice of the clerk to do that for you.

Ulrich - I hope all is well.

Lion - where are you are ? Have we offended you in some manner ?

Gotta run ttyl

Wow, Barry ! ! ! ! ........ Sorry to hear about that. (I have been there done that but not in the sink) Keep us informed.

Galaxy ..... Have faith prayers will be answerred.

We're not of to a good start. Lion's Dad passed away. YGW's SIL has a long road to recover from injuries late last year.

I suppose nobody here won the jackpot last night either.

The Chapel Car is still coupled to the diner for those who wish to use it.

I hope others are doing much better and have time for model railroading.

Ray ... Most of the truck's trips are without a trailer, but sometimes it has a heavy trailer such as if I rent a Bobcat to work on our property.  I don't need that much power for pulling the boat trailer. Anyhow, a heavy duty vehicle has other advanatges. I'm not wearing it out for sure. I have not had any mechanical problems since we got it alost 14 years ago.

YGW .... Good morning .
