Galaxy my condolances to you and Christian's family.  A coworker had an argument with her addict son and he committed suicide right in front of her in the kitchen.  She had to sell the house, she couldn't stand to live there anymore.

Hope your Xray turns out to be nothing.

In the train world, I am slowly making progress with my benchwork.  What was looking like a 2x8' is going to grow into an 'L'.  I am reading Armstrong's book before I do anymore track planning.  I am also reading up on DCC.  That's like learning another language, maybe another computer language.  Poor Arto is struggling in the DCC sub forum, you can feel his frustration as his engine operated in a seemingly random fashion.

Sunny this am and supposed to be in the 40's and 50's all week.  They are moving the snow from Baltimore city streets to the Ravens' stadium parking lots.  They have mountains of snow there and they are afraid it will still be there on Orioles openning day.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll go to the breakfast buffet this morning, if you would just bring me a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast and my R&GV RR Mug to use...  Thanks!

Galaxy, I am keeping you, YOH, and all of Christian's family in my thoughts and prayers.  I can't think of too much more horrifying than to have something like that happen to a family....

Henry, the more research you do as you start your layout, the more likely it will be pleasing to you!  Yep they will probably still have pile of sn*w in that stadium parking lot in June....  They may be able to load it back up and find someplace else to dump it.  They have done that around this part of NYS, particularly in Buffalo and Rochester...

I best get myself moving...  Catch you all later!

Train nut friend's favortie food is meatloaf, specifically my meatloaf {more than just hamburg and breadcrumbs..there is 10 ingredients}.

So, I made 4, 3 to take to the family and one for us, then I made two big things {a whole bag's worth} of potato salad to take. THey are now making the arrangements, and will call when home so we can deliver to them.

That way they dont have to cook, and family coming in will ahve somehting to eat.

we are still in SHOCK, even though I have beeen there, done that {failed}, I am still in shock, as his life was paralelling mine, but I chose a different path than he did.

I told trian nut friend aobut a month ago, I should sit and talk to Christian, tell him I am not there to judge, not to tell him what to do, but to tell him my story and how it is like his story.

I think it was a combo of things that lead to it. First, Momm in particular {he was her baby} enabled him, and paid all his bills as the kid spent his moeny on beer and pot. He lived on his own, but not wihtout mommy and daddy footing the bills. Well, mommy finally wised up and listened to train nut when he stated to put his foot down and said "NO MORE". He was cut off as the end of January, If he wanted his apartment and car, HE had to pay the bills, and not lie around drinking and smoking. He was told to get his old job back { he tol work he was depressed and going to the hospital {CPEP} and the would allow him that, but he couldn't miss one day of work for the next 90 days.

He was supposed to go out of town with mommy and said he wouldn't go, but train nut warned hiim he had No money to give him. He would beg off money for gas but used the cash to buy beer and pot. I told train nut if he wanted to give him gas, to TAKE him to the gas station and FILL his car with gas, NOT give him the cash. same wiht food, if they wnated to give him food {which he scarfed down as though starving always because he was} instead of cash for food!

He would work and use his pay for beer and pot and expect mommy to pay his bills, which mommy alwasy came through Now mommy was staarting to read him hte riot act and cut him off, told him to get his old job back and pay his own bills.

But anyway they enabled him by buying him beer when he was underage as they "thought" it "better" that he drink at home instead of going out and driving drunk.

He was just in CPEP at the hospital as he was ducking cops as his old GF had a restraining order on him which he broke. He was facing jail time. The cops showed up to verify he was indeed in te hospital, but failed to arest him hten because he was in the hospotal. They let him GO after 3 days as he claimed he would not hurt himself if they did, I told Train nut to talk directly to the psychiatrist and tell him the goings-on and toe KEEP him there. Insted he let moomy handle it, and mommy is SOOOOO afraid he'd have a "record" of psychiatric problems and didn't wnat that! so she siad if he wants to come home, let him!!!!!!

GRR. MOMMY wwas his biggest problem! So christian played games, and mommy played games to match him, and now mommy and daddy LOST the game.

SO his depression, his drinking and pot smoking or lack there of now with no money, his GF troubles, facing jail time for violation of restraining order, and having mommy and daddy cut him off of support casued him to end it.

Sad tale.

well, gotta get at teh potato salad.

later.

Good afternoon.  It feels like spring around here as it is Jan 31 and 63 F.  Plan to get in a good walk this afternoon.

Train front, I finally finished with the joint compound and painted the road bed last night.  Ready to lay ties for two more switches and the tracks into the planned yard.  I have to stain up a bag of ties before I get very far along as I only have about fifty ties left from my last staining session.

Galaxy, condolences to your friends and you on the loss of their son.  It seems like the  medical profession has made great strides in treating physical illness but not as much progress in treating the problems with the mind.  Our brains are amazingorgans but have all sorts of potential for going awry.

Uhlrich, you have made lots of progress on the layout.  The foam bits do seem to spread around when working with it.  I am using green foam so it is a little less noticible from the pink stuff.

Hope everyone has a good afternoon.

Condolences to you your Friend and families on the demise of Christian.

It is indeed a sad time and such a waste of a young man.

Good afternoon Diners!
Garry:
I have a Santa Fe post card with that picture I got when our family rode the Super Chief in 1957.
…Nice! I found this old post card amongst the mrr supplies which have been in storage for the last 3 years – forgot I had it.
Ulrich:  Very nice video – and Straus no less! Kudos Bow On the tiny bits of foam front, do you have any products to deal with static on clothing? “Static Guard” is the one I use here – for dealing with the foam crumbs that is. I find it helpful – not a total fix, but helpful.
I’ve played around a bit with the track plan to see if I could introduce some variation – here’s just the main tracks in this realignment. The interchange has moved a bit north, and the track from it to the main  the rest of the layout is missing. A work in progress, but is this the sort of thing you were thinking?
Henry:
In the train world, I am slowly making progress with my benchwork.  What was looking like a 2x8' is going to grow into an 'L'.
Oh how familiar is THAT! Big Smile …but if you have the room (what scale BTW?) I’d do it.
I am reading Armstrong's book before I do anymore track planning.  I am also reading up on DCC.  That's like learning another language, maybe another computer language.  Poor Arto is struggling in the DCC sub forum, you can feel his frustration as his engine operated in a seemingly random fashion.
…I have to re-learn that DCC stuff as I haven’t “turned a wheel” in a while.Sigh
Galaxy: Thanks for the background on Christian. A sorry story, and a path too many take. Glad you chose otherwise. Again condolences to your TN friend and his family.Angel
Have to get ready for this evening. May drop in later…

First off Galaxy, I'm so sorry to hear that sad news.  I can understand how it can get too much to deal with sometimes, but it still shouldn't happen.  I'm so sorry for the loss.

On a happier note, I did fairly well at my club's train show today.

The gunderson boxcar was 20 bucks, the Switcher was 40-runs and has Kato trucks on it.  The NS boxcars were 20 bucks for all three, Amtrak coach was 8, and the ballast cars were 15 for the 2 of them.

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please

Boy Work Was Slow! I got there a few mintues before Jerry, so I got the first customer. I normally hate getting the first customer, they normally want to go to all the stores! That does not count when the First And Only Customer comes in at 3:00 PM! It was a OK deal for me, $690.00 and I made a extra $14.00. I left the store at 4:20 (we close at 5:00) so at this point I have no idea if Jerry ever had a customer.

If anyone has wondered if Jerry is getting any better, NO. Sorry to say he is close to the end of his treatments but he is still Dazed And Confuse. Or as I like to say He is DC only. Smile, Wink & Grin

BBQ is done and so am I.

well, services are Wednesday for Christian.

We took the food out and they seemd in decent spirits, but mommy is now second guessing herself that she should have gone out there [ a long trip to where they used to live and C  preferrred to live] Friday night as C had threatened to kill himself because he had no money for beer. He always drank to get drunk. HSe refused. so when they went in the morning, THEY found him hanging there in his apartment. When they called 911 tehy wanted her to start CPR, but she siad he was stiff, cold and blue, she knew it was too late.

She is now second guessing, but the EMTs said if he was in such a state, they might have stopped it, but would have missed it another time.

They did once catch him trying to jump off the second floor balconyof their old house with a rope around his neck, but he got his clothing caught and they cut him down.

Naturally they are beside themselves.

So are we, really.

They have family coming in form all over the state for wednesday.

Services will be simple and will be calling hours for the urn will be form 4-6, service at 7 pm wiht a minister, and then a dinner at at an inn there in town.

We will, naturally be there most of the time if not all of the time.

sad sad sad. but if he was nto meant to be here, so be it.

we are all still in shock.

Thanks for all hte condolences.

While we knew TN friend well, and mommy somewhat, and knew Christian some, it is like we lost a member of our family, of course, as train nut firend is "part of our family". We heard about ALL of Christian's antics form TN friend and did our best to advise him, so we knew of C all to well.

Again, thanks for the condolences.

Angel

Galaxy ... I'm concerned about you, and so this is a "keep your chin up " comment. Of course this is a sad time because of Christian's death. I know you care about Train Nut and his wife a lot. This has got to be painful for you, too, and I just want to say you matter to me. Combining this with your health ordeals, has made 2016 a rough year so far. .. Keep your faith. ... Often, bad times are followed with good times.

Der John ... I like the CP post card.

Jimmy... You did very well at the train show.

Ken .... Nice photo. I like GP30's and the B&O had nice looking ones.

Jim ... Sounds like your roadbed project is coming along well.

My condolences to you and your friend about your friend's son's passing, Galaxy.

I spent yesterday helping Dad with stuff around his house.  This afternoon, I cut down a bunch of plants I've wanted to get rid of for awhile.  I figured that I may as well take advantage of the warm weather and get some yard work done.  Then, I watched the NHL All Star Game.  It was cool that the guy who was supposedly a protest vote against the New system won MVP honors, plus his team won so he'll get  some extra money.

My bood sugar is all over the place. I've read you guy's advice, but don't have time to reply in detail right now.  I wanted to thank you for your help.

Jimmy you have a great book to read there.  I like all of Ambrose's books that I have read.
Der I'm planning something smaller.  Cleaning my mom's house out this spring was an eye opener.  I don't want to leave my wife and kids with 2 dumpsters full of stuff.  That was on top of having an aortic valve replacement, a repair of the new leaky valve, a diagnosis of cardiomyopathy, which at its worst, made climbing stairs a huge effort.

The heart function is getting better but I have a much clearer idea of my own mortality.  Everyday really is a blessing, though I do wish I could sleep later.  If anyone has to pee in the middle of the night, I am up for hours if not the rest of the night.

I'm painting a wagon top box car.  I wanted it more red, than boxcar red, but I was afraid I would end up with a purple boxcar.  The enemy of good is better, so I am going to hit it with gloss today and decals tomorrow.  Maybe the next one I'll try caboose red.
