Afternoon folks,

Chloe, a glass of lemonade to tide me over to supper would be nice, thank you.

The sun has decided to put in an appearance at the moment....  Nice to see it again.  I may take advantage of the sun and the cool weather to go plant the petunias I bought a couple days ago into the hanging baskets I have by the fence.

Jeremy, as Garry said.  A root canal is really not that big a thing today.  I have had 5 so far.  My dentists have been good it numbing the area with a topical anisthesetic before even giving me the shot for them.  A whole lot better than when I was a kid and the butcher of a dentist my father made us go to didn't believe in novacain!  "If you took better care of your teeth you wouldn't have a cavity, don't be a little wimp!  What, numb it?  Oh for crying out loud!"  The shot really did hurt more than the drilling would without it.  He made sure of that!  Don't worry, today it is nothing.

Really didn't accomnplish much this afternoon....  Better get back to w*rk.

Good evening diners.  A cup of hot tea would hit the spot.  Very cool day for June weather wise in SE Ohio.  Patched the sidewalk where the new rain gutter drain crosses the sidewalk.  Now I can clean up the broken up concrete and then finish trenching the second half of the drain.  At least the work is a good way to burn calories.

Mr. Beasley congratulation for your weight control program.  I seem to stay the same weight year after year but really should talk off about 15 lbs.

Time to head for the basement and spike down more of the track around the no. 4 wye curgently under construction.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer please

Pretty boring day at work, no word from Dave so I guess at this point I am off? Whistling

Cleaning the bathtube. I had very hard water (now soften) and have major calcium and lime deposits. They are so thick they will catch my finger nail when I run my nails on them. Looks like a old sink you see in a run down gas station.

I am using CLR and slowely making head way, it now just nasty looking. I have only spent 20 minutes on it so far after I get home from work. Tonight I soaked some towel paper with CLR and stuck it to one of the worst spots for 4 minutes and it seemed to help a little. I am using a sponge with a scrubbing pad and the going is slow. Does anyone have some tip's?

 Later, Ken

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf would fit the bill right now....

I managed to get the hanging baskets on the side frience palnted with petunias this evening, and all but 4 of the oak boards have now gotten the finish coat of polyurethane.  I woujld have finished them but the 4 left were still a bit tacky so I will get them finished tomorrow morning.  Also got the grocery shopping done and made a run downtown to get my coffee (yep, dark roast Senca Lake Blend Organic and my Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Organic) and a few other items at Mother Earth Natural Foods.  Then headed over to Staples to pick up a couple items I had shipped to the store.

Got a few photos of the new paint job in the Living room.  Still some spots to finish up (he did some plastering of holes from where th old electric heaters were removed) but the big thing left to do is finish the oak trim.  That will probably be a couple days work.

Plastic is still down to protect the rug so the rug color is not accurate.  My son sent me a few iPhone photos he took when we were shopping yesterday.  This is the couch and chair I ordered.  The one I will get is a lighter color but the same model.  Very comfortable (which is what I really care about....).

Some old guy was sitting on it when my son took the photo.... Looks familiar, but I can't quite place him....  Hmmmm....

These are the entertainment center and the one of the two hutches I bought at the Amish Store.

No the candles don't come with it.

Hope you all have a great night.  Keeping Ulrich in my prayers!

 Ken,

Way back when, working in plant sanitation, we used a 99% phosphoric acid cut to one gallon per 50 gallons.  Now, at home, I use Stone Solv, bought by the gallon at Fleet Farm.  Other farm supply outfits will have it or a comparable.  It's about 56%, and needs to be diluted.  I usually use it diluted 1 part to 3-10 parts.  I think it works better than CLR (my opinion only).  Last I bought was several years ago, but cost should still be under $10.  The intended purpose of the product is to cut scale and deposits from milk piping in dairy barns.

I should have said 1 part acid to 3-10 parts water.

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual oil drum sized coffee with mass quantities of cream, please.

Ray:  Looks like some nice furniture you have there.  I'm sure you'll get many years of use out of it.

Dennis:  Oregon is a beautiful state.  One year, MOH and I flew into Seattle, drove down through the Willamette valley to Crescent City, and went back up along the coast hwy to Long Beach, WA.  The Oregon Coast is just gorgeous.  Shhhhh!  Don't tell anybody, especially Californians.  The locals know what they have and they want to keep it that way.

WinkWinkBig Smile

Well, off to work.

Hope everyone is OK and safe.

Mornin' everyone,

Zoe, just need a refill for my coffee.  Yes, Seneca Lake Blend Dark Raost....  Thank you Ma'am.

All but one of the oak boards have now gotten their second coat of polyurethane.  The last one has some grain lifting in places so I want to wait until the others have dried a bit before I create any dust down there when sanding it....  They look great I think.  Contractor hasn't shown up yet today.  He may be finishing the outside job he needed to get done.

Today is supposed to be sunny....  When I got up there was some fog outside but that has now burned off.  Should be a good day for making electricity.

So Galaxy, what have you been doing to get all the aches and pains?   Ah,never mind, I don't really need to know and Vinnie doesn't either....  LOL

Going to try to start the last raised bed garden today.  It will just be a circle of the stone blocks from the old garden by the side of the house.  Really need to get the garden in. Getting late around here to put one in.

Still dealling with all the stuff from the convention that conveniently got loaded ionto my car.  It is amazing how much stuff you can oput in a PiP (Plug in Prius)!  It was quite full on the way home from the convention.

Catch you all later!

Good Evening

It certainly has been slow in the Diner lately as many regulars no longer seem to post. While I wouldn't call myself a regular, I do try to pop in from time to time. I agree with others in that I often wonder what has happened to some former diners such as Tom in PA and several others. Hopefully they are well but just no longer want to post.

Well we were supposed to get a lot of rain yesterday and last night to the point where the weather office issued a 'special statement' to that effect. Guess what, not a drop. Some times I wonder why I even read the forecasts.

We are busy in planting mode and only have about another 50 pots left to go. I suppose it keeps me out of mischief but I really just fetch and carry as my wife is in charge of the actual planting and purchase of same. I did manage to wash the car today so I did do something.

I have finished a PK2 50' box car kit and am starting on a second one. I bought them at the train show last year for $4 each. I really don't need any more CNR box cars but then again they are 50 foot Automobile cars and they do build into a nice model. I have a couple of Red Caboose kits as well and may start them. I just can't seem to stop snipping off plastic bits from sprues with that terrific sprue cutter I bought a while ago.

Well time to watch another episode of Fyole's War. We just bought Series 8 and are really enjoying them. We have all 8 series and sadly there won't be any more.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer Please and a round for the house.

Someone in IL just won $253,000,000 with Mega Million's, want to guess who it was? Big Smile

Well guess yet? I am trying my self. Whistling But I did win $2.00, every little bit helps.

Gary Thank you fo the tip, if I cannot get done with the CLR. By the way, why do you call your self Weightmaster? Are you in the Air Forces?

Off to the VA Hospital I go Thursday. I need my blood work done, chest X-Ray and have my right foot looked at. My right foot put me in the hospital about 2.5 years ago while I was working for NTB. Had a callauis turned into a foot ulichet and all most lost part of my foot like Jeffery did. I have been on my feet way more thies year than in the past year. It was mainly to get the store away from Dave. It took some time and foot work to turn back 5 years of Dave control!

Foot looks a little gross, but not as bad as last time. I hope new shoes and a round of some meds will do the trick.

Train Front Had to oil the PK2 B&O SD 7 and 9 tonight. They seemed to like it and are running a little faster at the same speed step.

Ken,

In my former working life I was a scale man for a major roofing company.  Just seemed to fit at the time.  More news from today, but I'll wait and post it tomorrow.

Hey yall! It's been a while. Almost couldn't find the place. I am saddened to know that Jeff passed away, and also concerned about Ulrich. I am however, very happy to see so many familiar names still here. For me and mine, life has been hectic. Lots of hours working, keeping up with the kiddos (as I have 4), and trying to keep Mr Budget balanced has put the majority of my model railroading on hold. I still get MRR in the mail each month, just haven't been able to do a whole lot to what I have. I apologize sincerely for my prolonged absence, and while I can't say it won't happen again, I can say for the time being, I'm back.

As some of you may know, my wife Kathy has dealt for years with a number of health issues, and has been homebound and mostly bedbound for the last seven.  Sunday afternoon she had great difficulty breathing, and was transported to our local hospital, less than two miles away.  She suffered cardiac arrest on the way, but was brought back by one of the paramedics.  Another episode occurred in the ER, with 15 minutes of CPR being done.

A couple hours later she was sent to Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Miineapolis and put into cool down for 24 hours to preserve brain and organ function.  We learned after the rewarming of her body that her brain function had become severely limited, and that her best hope was to remain in a vegatative state, which she did not want.

Life support was removed yesterday around 12:30 pm, and she left to join her Lord at 3:00.

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual ginormous cup of coffee with cream abundanza, please.

Weighmaster:  I'm saddened to hear of your wife's passing.  I hope you can find comfort in her memory.

Galaxy must be able to get some sleep as of late.  He usually posts at ridiculous AM.  That's a good thing.

Ken:  I can only assume that you didn't win the lottery, because if you actually had, I don't think you'd be telling everyone without advice from counsel.

Smile, Wink & GrinSmile, Wink & GrinSmile, Wink & Grin

Bamacsx83:  welcome back.  Welcome back to Weighmaster, too.

Welcome

i don't have anything exciting to report either train wise or otherwise.  Just wishing everyone a great day.

Those little emoticons are still kind of neat if not overdone.

i hope everyone is OK and safe.

Good morning all.  Flo, I'll have an order of biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon and a tall glass of milk to wash it down.

Gary (weighmaster) my sincerest condolences and prayers to you on the passing of your wife.

To fill everyone in on what's been going on in my life, I've been w**king, (at least I assume that is still a four-letter word here), for Goodyear as an auto mechanic for the past 2.5 years now.  I've also been running a separate business as a mobile auto technician.  My mobile business has been rather up and down, but I am happy to say that I've recently gained access to a building that I can put a true auto shop in.  As of right now, it is being renovated (electrical was horribly out of date and nowhere near up to code).  My overall plans with it is to have everything needed to open the place up as my own within 5 years.  My kiddos have been all growing like weeds, Heather (my oldest) has been playing soccer in fall and softball in the spring.  Mikayla  (the 5 year old) also plays skccer, but has no desire at all for softball.  Michael (my 3 year old) will hopefully be starting soccer this fall and he's been otherwise terrorizing his sisters.  Finally, Harmony (the 18 month old) is toddling around the house and getting into everything.

Welp, that's about it here in my neck of the woods, I've gotta run to go earn that paycheck now.  Later taters

Bama .... Good to see you !

Glad to hear your children are doing well..... Yes, kids grow fast. It is amazing how fast time passes. Good to see you don't waste time. .... Regarding Jeffrey, we continue to be saddened about his passing and miss his posts. Now, we worry about Ulrich, and the hard part is none of us has heard anything about what happened. ..... I still go to Alabama to see family occassionally. Not much because there are other family memebrs in other locations.

Speaking of time passing ..... Hard to beleive but our oldest granddaughter had her 14th birthday yesterday.

Weighmaster Gary ... Good seeing you here again .... BUT I'm so sorry to learn about your wife's passing. Let us know if there is anything we can do.

Ray .... The new living room looks terrific. I like the Amish furniture, too.

....

Regarding my model railroad, I am still weathering freight cars. Now, all of my coal hopper cars on the layout are weathered. I'm working on ore cars now, and I only have three left to complete. Next, I have a few box cars to weather.

Happy Model Railroading.

No word form Ulrich:

Today's word:

pathography

PRONUNCIATION:
(puh-THOG-ruh-fee) http://wordsmith.org/words/pathography.mp3

MEANING:
noun: A biography that focuses on the negative.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Greek patho- (suffering, disease) + -graphy (writing). In the beginning, pathography was a description of a disease. Then the word came to be applied to the study of an individual or a community as relating to the influence of a disease. Now the term mostly refers to a biography focusing on the negative. Earliest documented use: 1848.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Heritage Flakes Organic cereal with skim milk and a bunch of fresh blueberries to go along with a pot of Seneca Lake Blend dark roast coffee this morning.

Currently 65°F outside with some bright sunshine to start the day.  Weather people say clouds will stop by later this morning though.  The high will be 78°F sometime this afternoon.  I think it will be a good day to get some things done outside...

Gary, my deepest condolences on your wife's passing.  You and your family will be in my prayers!  Good to see you back in the diner.  Don't be a stranger.  There are a lot of caring people in here who can help support you through this time.  Been there myself......

Last night I rolled over in bed about 12:30AM onto my right shoulder.  The one that has been hurting.  I felt something go "POP!"  Didn't hurt so I fell back asleep.  Got up this morning and for the first time in weeks my shoulder doesn't ache....  must have given myself an "adjustment" as the chiropractors say.  Had the same thing happen back about 20 years ago when the same shoulder was giving me trouble.  I was laoding large rounds of firwood onto my pick up truck out at a friends house when the shoujlder popped.  Talked to a chiropractor friend at church, who nodded his head and said, "you just gave yourself an adjustment".  Next time the shoulder is bothering me I'll make an appointment with him.....

No sign of the contractor or my son yet, so I guess I will get to mowing the lawn.

Have a great day!

Good Afternoon!

I was released from the hospital today.

On May 15th, I was unable to get up in the morning, just could not move an inch. My speech was garbled, so Petra called the ambulance. Well, the ambulance did not come, but a helicopter, which took me directly to the stroke unit at the University of Hamburg hospital. The stroke must have happened right before I tried to get up, so there were less than 20 minutes until the treatment began.

This has probably saved my life.

I am still suffering from the effects of the stroke. My left side is more or less useless, walking without any help does not work. I am quite positive though that I will regain control to a degree, which allows me to lead a close to normal life.

For the moment I am just glad to be home again!

Petra´s aunt (the one in the nearby nursing home) passed away last week. She had been suffering from MS the past 40 years and her condition was critical since April. As much as we are saddened by the loss, we feel that it was a blessing for her to go. The memorial service will be held next week, but I am afraid I won´t be able to attend.

Gary - Petra and I are sad about your wife´s passing. Please accept our sincere condolences!

I will try to come here as often as possible. My days are filled with PT to get back to normal. I have to go there every day except the weekends. Walking down the one flight of stairs from our apartment takes 10 minutes, the walk to the parking lot another 10 minutes. I guess I´ll be beat when I am back from the PT.

Blessings to all of you!

Good to see you again, Ulrich!  May your recovery be swift and smooth.

I'll be visiting my daughter in Maine for a couple of days, but I plan to return over the weekend at some point.  If it's Saturday evening, I'll be watching the Stanley Cup so don't look for me then.

Right now, it's still chilly out but I'm going to bundle up and take a bike ride.  In my younger days, I used to prefer to ride when it was like this, just about 60 degrees F, but now I like it a bit warmer.

Whistling

Hi Gang,

Chloe, double root beer floats all around to celebtate Ulrich's return.

Ulrich, we are so glad to hear from you, saddened about your condition and your time away from home and Petra.  Just a little advise to you good Buddy,  when the Cancer hit me, I made up my mind that I was not sick,  I just had a problem that I had to over come.  I believe that mind set has really helped me in dealing with all that I have had to and to adjust to things that have changed that I can't control..  Just a suggestion, but give it a try as it will help you out with the recuperation process..

Gary,  Our sincere condolences. That would be a very difficult decsion to make, but I do believe it is the best under those circumstaces. You and your family members are in our prayers.

Bama, So glad you checked in, I have been wondering alot lately about our MIAs in the Diner. Glad the Kiddiles are doing good and hope you are in good health and spirits. Good luck with your new business plan.

I have the tree guys here today, topping a couple of Blue Spruce, taking out an ill Green Ash, and trimming up a large Maple.  So lots of noise and mess around here but they will clean it all up.

I hear them starting again after lunch, so will check out for now to go and watch.

Later, Gators.......

Ulrich,

Glad to hear from You.....I had a hunch, that It was something like that and I'm glad You made it....time is of the essense, in those situations for any recovery...had You waited longer to go, things would have been worse....I know..I had a stroke in 2007 and that is what I was told....It still took me almost three yrs. to recover and still have to watch what I do. It affected my balance, I had none....It was like learning how to walk and do things again, still cannot make any sudden movements....or I will fall. I was 66 when it happened. A lot of PT. God Bless and Never Give Up.

Gary,

I don't know You well, but sorry to hear of Your loss.

God keep You and Your's.

Take Care All! Big Smile

Weighmaster

Gary

That was a tough decission, even when it is the obvious decission. Our Prayers for you.

Ulrich ... We've been worried about you. I'm very sad to learn of your bad news. If you don't mind, please set up a line of communication with Galaxy our someone else to inform us if you have a major problem again. Meanwhile, I'll pray thanks your life was saved and pray for a full recovry. It is very good to know you ar a patient at a university hospital becaue I think those are better hospitals. We care about you.

Inch ... I use brass wire of 0.015" diameter for grab irons. Stirrup steps are commerically available if you prefer to get them. I have one boxcar where I made stirrup steps of wire but it was thicker than the grab irons wire.

JohnBoy .... You might like to know there is a model train guy living in Montana who participates in another forum. I think he is not too far from Billings.

Frank ... I did not know you had that stroke. I had my helicopter ride for a heart problem a year later than your stroke (2008).

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer please.

Weight Master So sorry to hear about you lossing your wife! Broken Heart I hope it was more of a release from a failed body than a death. Best wishes for you and your family.

Ulrich Sorry to hear about the stroke but happy you are still with us! Just don't over do it in rehap! Personally I think that is why we lost Jeffery, he was trying to hard.

My Health Front and VA Hospital Visit. Small Rant, why are American Vet's treat by Dr's from India? Why are there so many Dr's here in the US that are not natural Americans? I not aginst them if I can understand them, just find it odd.

As a whole, the visit was sort of waste of time. Good news, while my foot looks nasty, there is no infection. So I guess it was worth the trip in that respect. Waste of time part is the Dr I saw would not let me get the needed blood work or chest X-Ray while I was there. She did put in a order for new shoes. I have to see my Dr for the order for the blood work and X-Ray.

What got me some what PO'ed was when she said "the walk in clinc is for people that are sick, you should have seen your normal Dr"! I pointed out "The last time I waited to see a Dr about the foot I was in the hospital for 6 Day's, all most had part of the foot cut off, when through 21 skin grafts, had a pick line installed so I could take antibacterical drugs and was out of work for 3 months"! She changed her tune real fast and said she was glad I came in. Whistling

 BBQ is done. Dinner

well, I see i have some workto do and some candels to light!

I signed on late this morning and did not read any missed posts, so :

first :weighmaster, condolences for you on your wife. It is the the best thing, we had to mae the decision to turn off life support for my mother, but with no brain activity there was virtually no hope.

If i am in a situation similar, I HAVE DoNotRecussitate {DNR}} instructions for me, and MOH feels the same.

second: Then I was glad to see ULRICH, but saddened by HIS news. Good thing Petra called right away for ambulance. at least he HAS a stroke center and helicoptor in shot.. I suspected soe serious heart issue, but stroke was in the back of my mind.

so, I see several candles are needed for health hapiness, and for safe passage for those who passed on.

The candles are lit.

I have NOT been feeling to well this week, I have doen NOTHING today and baredly did a half sink of dishes only yesterday. I had a long afternoon na and was in bed by 7pm to awaken around five am, but did NOT get up then. and when I did get up, i didn't bother to post here or check email.

MOH pulled several muscles in back last weekend, and couldn't do much all week, feeling better today, and sees hte Dr tomorrow about release for work.

The extended medical epenses for MOH last year topped with increases in my medical costs are about banrupting us this year. We are cancelling the Baltimore JUly trip as we can't afford it and Baltimore wiht all the unrest and the FEds stepping on to take control of the city back, Baltimore downtown MIGHT NOT be the place to go right now, anyway.

Ithe end of june we cannot canccle our trip, bt will spend cheaply there and not buy any gifts or suevenirsof any kind.

WIht expenses looming we just cannot get ahead these last two years, when we thought we could have been. for shame. sad. really hat medical costs can be so high.cheap meals ahead as all we can afford.

well, that is my bemoaning, others have more serious issues, we must be strong for them.

SPECIAL thoughts and prayers for others..

have a good night dont expect me early tomorrow as when I do get up we have to take MOH to the Dr.

later
