Well, we're back from Maine. We had 4 days of really fine weather, which was great because we were with an avid outdoors group. The first day was an easy drive up and a relaxing afternoon, and the final day was a dismal drive home in pouring rain and bumper-to-bumper traffic, but in between we did a lot of mountain biking in Acadia National Park. We also did a lot of eating and drinking in the Bar Harbor area.
We even saw a train. On the way home, we had a minute or two waiting at a grade crossing for a string of beat-up looking freight cars pulled by a pair of Pan-Am engines.
On our third day of biking, my wife biked ahead of me and neglected to stop at the agree-upon intersection, and instead continued on up the trail in the direction we were not planning to go. I tried calling, but I had no service and my battery was dying. This is a large, hilly park and there's little service anywhere. I took the loop that we'd planned on, and didn't find her, so I headed back to the car. I was almost there when my phone rang. It was Smokey the Bear, or rather a park ranger. He told me where to retrieve my wife, and all was well that ended well.

Good evening ..
I skimmed over posts since Thursday. I probably missed some comments. Good to see everyone who posted.
Douglas ... Interesting reading about the Murphy Branch. It would be a good protoype for model railroading because Murphy's Law always is in play.
Ray ... Good job fixing up your living room.
Ken ... Not surprised that is Dave's problem. Sounds like he has his work cut out for him overcoming it.
Mr. B .... Good to hear about your trip to Maine.
Lion ... Nice seeing more subway photos.
My friend and his wife were able to spend a couple of days with us. They thought they were going to cancel out, but his flooded basement was mostly corrected by his daughter and son in law.
I ran some trains while they were here, and Murphy was absent thankfully.
Happy model railroading.

Janie I only need sa decaf tonight....
Just got home a few minutes ago from dinner out at the Mexican Restaurant with my sister the socialite... It was High School Graduation weekend in Canandaigua and tyhe restaurant was conpletely packed. The new restaurant can seat around 3 times the number of people than the old one could. Also very rustic Mexican Decor. My sister has several paintings there that are for sale. She ran into about a dozen of her students from when she was an Art Teacher and was in heaven most of the time and spent a great deal of time yaking with them..... She did get a bit crabby with the girl at check-in as they didn't write down her reservation... most likey my sister said something to Rafaele, the owner, when she was in there mid week and he didn't remember to write it down. So our 6PM reservation meant we got seated around 7... He made it up to her by giving us a Guacamole Appetiser for free. That could have been a dinner in itself.... He is now serving Finger Lakes Wine as well as a fine group of Mexican Tequilas and such, so I had a glass of a Semi-Dry Reisling with the Tilapia I had for dinner. Since the move and the availability of more seating he is getting people from all over the Finger Lakes and Rochester coming there for dinners. It is a top shelf Establishment.
Glad to hear your wife was found Mr. B. Sounds like a great trip!
Ken, I wonder how much permanent damage Dave has done to himself? I still think he has some dementia from all the symptoms you have mentioned.... I do hope he can get it under control and keep it under control!
I did a little more out in the living room today. I bet you can find what it is:
The one on the right works, the one on the left needs a new tank and burner assembly. I got these when I got home tonight. The flash at least lights up the room better than when the sun is shining outside.... Once i get some lighting installed I will try some timed photos and see what I get.
Oh... Three blossoms on my old Night Blooming Cereus tonight. House smells nice!
Have a great night!

Good Morning
Sunny out right now but gonna get dull by late afternoon with more rain be falling on our heads.
We took one right on the nose this weekend. 3.5" of rain and more to come, yay...not.
Had a right nasty bunch of stuff to do this past few days...my health took a dump on me again...so back to somewhat near normal now...whatever normal is.
Anyhow, got some banking to do as well as basic survival food buying to do. Then off to the LHS for some more goodies...need a few things like...ernn...wheelsets and couplers....sigh.
Chloe, I'll just have a coffee and a breakfast bagel please...thankyou.

Good morning, all. Yesterday finally dried out enough to mow the grass. Help my 46 yr old daughter celebrate her birthday last night. Hard to believe she is that old as it seems like only yesterday she was a happy-go-lucky kid.
Train front - I finally figured out how to install Microengineering code 83 rail joiners. The little buggers are hard to slip on the rail flange unless you use a file to tapper the very end a little. After I tappered the flang, I was able to slip them on and make a small solder connection to secure them. I now have a nice continuous six feet section of rail. Spiked down the first 17 inches yesterday afternoon after finishing with the yard mowing.
Time to get to work on the drier vent duct work.
Good health to all today.
Jim
Mornin' Diners.... Mornin' Barry, good to see you.
It be "Dull" here in the Finger Lakes as it is up North of the border. Currently 62°F with a high around 75°F maybe, I hope...
Zoe, I need another refill for my Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Organic Coffee please!
Today I have to go over to my son's house and clean the kitty litter box for them. They are on vacation a few states to the South and his MIL can't lift the box to get it emptied. I'll stop and do that early afternoon on my way out to camp to see if I can continue trimming. Today would be a good day to check out the Sound System at the Dinning Hall. Should be OK, but needs to be cleaned and make sure all is well. Hasn't been run since last Fall so who knows?
I need to head down cellar and see how deep the water is down there. The deluge from a couple days ago has the seepage started again. Ran the syphon twice yesterday.
Keeping several of you (you know who you are) in my prayers. Have a great day!
Eveing Dinners
Flo, please and keep them coming.
I have been waiting for it to happen for the last 15 years! Today I found a 16 foot section of my wood fences laying in my neighbor's yard! Unless I take some pictures it will be hard to understand what a real problem this is.
The water table here is really to high to install a in ground pool. Idiot I bought the house from that istalled the pool rasied the back yard around the pool 3 foot with gravel. Side next to Dwight's yard, used a rubber / tar membrane to hold back the gravel and the Wood Fences Post is what held it and not a concrete footing!
That is the side where the post broke off and fell in to Dwights yard with 16 foot of fence. Luckly Dwight said I could install new post in his yard, but I need to get that is writting! Dwight is a good guy, but he is all so 89 years old. When he passes away and the house is up for sale I have to have my Caboose covred.
How deep does a wood fence post have to be? I am thinking 3 foot?
From this view point, the problem fence section is to the left. You may be able to get the idea. Boy, I wish the backyard and pool still looked like this!
Later, Ken

Good Morning,
Certainly is quiet in here of late.
We are slowly getting the bathroom reno done but slow is the operative word. The fellow doing the job hurt his back so really is only working on it part time. It is now 9:30 and he hasn't shown up yet. He is doing a very nice job though. The tiling is now all done and grouted, so the next will be the mediccabinet and the vanity plus painting, etc. Then we have to get measured for the counter top and get that cut. We expect to not have a bathroom sink for another 2-3 weeks. The counter top is stuff called Vetrazzo which is made from cement and recycled glass. Looks really neat but is surprisingly expensive.
Well I finally finished the Red Caboose box car kit I've been working on over the past week or more. It turned out very well. I have a another kit for a CN box car on the bench and will likely pick away at it over the next few weeks. After all there really isn't any rush for rolling stock on the Mortimer sub. I can't put all I now have on the layout at once.
I sure hope we see a few more pop into the place soon.
CN Charlie
Mornin'...... Ah.... Zoe.
Place is empty? Glad the staff is here at least.... I'll have the #2 special this morning (blood sugar was all of 112 so I guess i can be bad). Over easy on the eggs, couple sausage links, home fries, and a double order of the sourdough toast please. Oh, and a 12 cup pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast please. What? yes my R&GV RR Museum mug wojuld be great.
Wet here in the Finger Lakes. Todays forecast is for a lot more of the same! According to the weather channel "showers and thunderstorms - some loccally heavy downpouyrs are possible, especially during the afternoon hours. High 78°F..... I am supposed to be going to a picnic this evening. the host says they have a new deck with plenty of seating and brand new outdoor furniture.... I bet it looks great and is very comfortable. Probably we will all be inside except for the poor slob who gets to BBQ the chicken. Most likely that will be me......... It's our annual MLK committee picnic and the treasurers job is to be the cook and pay the bills.
Nasty stuff is supposed to start soon and I haven't taken my daily shower yet so I best eat quick and head out. Need to see how much water there is in the basement as well. We will end up with around 5" of rain for the month of June. We have had rain on 22 days this month. Ground is very much saturated. normal is less than 3" for June around here.
Catch you all later!
Morning diners,
It's been hot and humid today with dark clouds blocking the sun. There's little rain coming down but nothing much.
I bought a new book The DCC Guide from the Kalmbach store. Now I'm waiting for my new issue to come in.
See yeah later.

G'd Morning Ya All.
Zoe are you ready for an order ?? I' would like a country scramble with a whole wheat bagel and peanut butter and chocolate milk, Please and thanks.
Well it is another gloomy day here. Has been very hot here, around 30 c for a couple of days now. Heavy smoke from the forest fires up north rolled in here around noon yesterday and haven't left even though it is drizzeling out as well. When you look at the trees a block away they are not green they are grey and you can not make out any detail on them. Can't imagine what it would be like in Saskatoon or Prince Albert.
Didn't think my pumpkins were going to grow this year, but as of yesterday I have three plants poking through. Hope they have enough time to produce something for us in time for Halloween.
I am off yesterday and today. Yesterday was spent running around catching up on stuff that I had neglected for awhile. Today I think my wife and I will take in an Imax movie and then out for supper with some relatives from Toronto that are passing through. (I'll watch them eat ) ( Oh what fun )..........
Canada Day Celebrations tomorrow, so should be busy at work and then work the next two after that as well with the week end off.
Nothing new to repoprt on the railroad front the last week. Have run some trains for the Grandson when he was over. I have an unfinished road close to the edge on the section where the Elevated Station is going that I let him play with cars and trucks on while the trains are running and he just loves that.
Hope all our Canucks here have a great Canada Day and you Brothers Stateside have a cool one on us to celebrate as well.
Prayers continue for all those in need, Sure hope healing is close by and speedy. and also for those who lost four legged friends recently. I know the feeling well. I as well enjoyed Ken's Rainbow Bridge Poem and think that will be so.
Ray, Let us all know when the House warming is, we wouldn't want to miss that.
YGW. That goes for you too. Haven't heard from you much lately.
Dennis, Glad that you have such great fellowship at your Church. ( and food too)

Good Afternoon Diners,
Flo, I'll have an extra large cup of coffee with lots of cream, please.
Just a quick lunchtime note.
Its official, this year is the wettest June on record in Illinois. The previous record was set in 1902. So we get record rainfall and California is still in a serious drought. Just saw on the KTLA news app about a brush fire near Lompoc. That whole area is so bone dry that a fire could conceivably go all the way to Monterey and probably then some. It has also been too cool here for this time of year.
On my Pandora radio, I've added Hawaiian and Celtic to the Flamenco and classical music, all of which I really like. Well, I've only recently gained an appreciation for Celtic. I've loved Flamenco for many years. Can't play it, but I still love it. One day I'll get some of those chords down, but not today. The chord forms of Celtic are much more familiar.
Well, need to go back to work.
I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Hi All,
Got an early out from the job today. Good start to an extended weekend. For me...Wed through Sat off this week.
Got to talk myself into driving to Carson City on Saturday to take in the Nevada State Railroad Museum's holiday operation. Want to get some new photos of some OLD equipment of the V&T and the newly restored narrow gauge mogul...Glenbrook. Might be a good day out with the poofy little pooch.
I will definitely post photos if I get there.
So...at nearly 6 PM, it's 98 degrees in the house and 103 outside. Even though it's only 10% humidity...I'm keeping my behind home and indulging in some cold .
Doing some decalling and watching movies. Good evening off.
Take care.

Evening Dinner?
Flo, Beer please
Been Beat All Day. Been trying to learn something about installing a fence. Who would I call to find out what the frost level is?
Some of the neighbor hood kids and 1 parnet has offred to help clean up the proptery and install the fence for free. They found out about Sue being disabled, my foot being a problem and my struggle with Bank Of Stupid and that is why the house looks like a wreck.
I have a lot more to say, but just to darn tired to type.
Ken
Good evening, we had another rainy day. Played cards (bridge) with the senior center group this afternoon and subbed in another group this evening. One guy said we picked up a quarter inch of rain this afternoon. Really limited time to spike track spending the day playing cards.
Ken, three feet for pressure treated posted should be okay if you set them in some Sakrette mix. With an 8 ft pressure treated 4x4 post that give 5 ft above grade. If you can get by with only 4 ft exposed, its even stronger and would most likely never fall over. Frost penetration in the area you are in should be no more than about 28 inches. I live in SE Ohio and we rarely have more than 12 inches of frost penetration where I live but prolonged cold certainly would lead to at least 24 inches. If you want to be safe, contact the local building department officials and they can provide the local requirements for frost penetration althougth they will be very conservative. A commercial fencing contractor should be able to answer that question for you, also.
Johnboy, I talked to my friend in the Flin Flon area yesterday and he said the smoke was really bad up north. Hope they get the fires under control as I am heading that way in two weeks.
We are going to the daughter's cabin in the morning at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland for the 4th of July Holiday. Its a nice outing but has no internet access or land line telephone service. She also has no TV antena or cable so will get lots of reading done.
Hope everyone has a great Holiday weekend including our Canadian friends.
Time for the move to the July 2015 location, so sup it up, lads!
Vinnie and the girls will make this place ready for moving, the switcher is waiting to couple to the car, so this place must close for the month.
See you all in July!
