Galaxy,

First, let me say, my wife loves that show!  She records it every weekc, then we watch it later.

Second, I go to the Packer for my million and one physical problems.  I presume they have psychologists and psychiatrists, but have never had to see one.

Third, and most importantly, have you seen a lawyer about this involuntary admissions debacle?  You can usually get a free consultation to go over your situation.  I don't know if they can do a lot, but they may be able to do something, including perhaps advising you not to go back to that particular hospital.

Good luck.

Gooooood Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday (it is Sunday yes? Ok, good) Breakfast buffet please. Thank you.

Great looking pictures have been posted here lately I’ve noticed Kudos to you all!!

Garry- I’m saddened to hear about your Mother.

Ken- Glad they’re getting on your feet now. They (the regular Doc’s) seem to treat your feet so…casually and that seems odd. My wife’s Doc checks her feet every time she comes in for anything, and I do mean anything. He said “with you being diabetic, if I ever do not check your feet …you should look for another Doctor.“ We don’t want you only having to buy one shoe someday.

Good to see some MIA’s are back.

“Only from the mind of Minolta” Did I just date myself? I think I did.

G- What can I say....(shaking head) Praying for you Hoss.

Got another ½ inch rain last night along with some thunder and lightning. Like Moses parting the Red Sea, the bad stuff split up around our little burg so nothing severe.
Got the posts for the back porch "repair" sunk this week. I call it a repair because if it was an addition, it would requir a building permit and inspected etc, and that would be a bit overkill for what I'm doing. So, Ijust say there is a problem with the grill sitting on the deck taking up floor space, so to "fix" it, I have to make this small 6' X 2' nook. Thereby making it a "repair" and no building permit which would cost almost as much as the materials. Not sure if the Village (read Building Inspector) will see it that way, should he find out, but according to him, if they found out I bought a new floor lamp, that's an addition and I'd need a building permit.  Yes yes I know it's portable but he'd say there is a grey area and he makes the call. Problem is the chucklehead building inspector uses the commercial code book for residential. You argue, he red tags, you threaten to go to the Board and court, he backs off and all is well. It's the hassle of it all.
Oh and I mowed twice. I should have mowed again Saturday like the neighbors but between erronds with the wife and w*rk, I didn’t. Now it’s like a jungle out there. Guess I’ll try this afternoon. But for now, looks like a trip to Walmart for some CO2 and some BBs. Got a blackbird that’s dive bombing the dog and Brenda is….let’s say upset. Thing hasn’t been used in probably 30 years.

Say…, could I get a refill on…oh. Still cleaning up from Barrys’ breakfast.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Afternoon, Folks!

The official start of Summer 2015 - and not a wee bit of sunshine! Just gray and drab - yuck!

My friend came over a little earlier and brought the layout. He bought all those boxes I could not afford, made the connections, laid the track & wired the layout for DC operation. Furthermore, he installed the backdrop, which Petra painted. So that´s where she has been a couple of days ago!

I am a happy man, to have a wife like her and friends like Lothar. The layout is very close to what I have planned before the stroke "struck". I can now run a train, which makes me feel a lot happier. No pictures - yet, but as soon as I can stand without the help of a crutch or someone holding me, I´ll take some for you guys.

I am singing in the ra*n ... Whistling

Galaxy - I don´t really know what to say. It makes me mad to see how they treated you. All other comments fall under the forum policy - Sigh The candle remains lit!

Lion - nice piccies!

Todd - the Yiddish word "putz" (or potz) has a meaning which you are not supposed to use here in the forum. Watch out for  טאַטע Steven to come along and spank your tuches!

Have a good one!

Good Morning diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual ginormous cup of coffee with mass quantities of cream, please.

 Happy Father's Day everyone.

Galaxy:  Good to see you back.  Sorry to hear of your situation, but hope things are starting to correct itself.

My family took me to see Love and Mercy, which is a story about Brian Wilson of he Beach Boys.  Just sharing.

Ken:  You probably know this, but there is a technique in jewelry making called pic soldering, which is where you take a small, no seriously small, chip of solder, melt it and pick it up with a "pic" and then reheat the area where you want the solder to flow into.  I know that's an extremely short description and I'm not sure if it would work in electrical situations, but it might be worth a try on a practice application first.

Have a great day everyone.

i hope everyone is OK and safe.

It's raining here.  My daughter is back in Maine (got a text) and my wife is on Cape Cod (got a phone call.)  I made myself a batch of buttermilk pancakes from leftover batter, with butter and real maple syrup.  Yummy.

It's raining.  I don't think I'll get in a bike ride today, but it should clear up enough for a walk, anyway.  After those pancakes, I will certainly need some exercise.

Happy Fathers' Day from one dad to all the rest!

Good day.  Wow, did we get a lot of rain yesterday along with high wind.  Brought down a huge limb or an old sycamore tree about a block and a half from my house.  Last year during a storm an other sycamore split in half and crashed into the house across the street.  Cost the city a new roof as the tree belongs to the city as it is in the area between the side walk and street.  Frankly, the city's sycamores are all disasters waiting to happen.  Had more water in the basement as the ground is totally saturated after a weeks rain.

Our airedale is doing poorly and will probably have to be put down this week when our regular vet returns from vacation.  Very sad about this situation as she has been the best dog we have every owned and a rescue to boot.

On the train front, between shop vacking water off the floor, stained a half bag of ties for more track laying.  Plan to glue them down this afternoon or early evening.

Like Galaxy, don't get me started on insurance and prescription drugs.  Have had coverage dropped on two prescriptions this past two years,  Almost everything I now take for hypertension is generic and cheap. The insurance company appears to be unwilling to cover any treatment for acid reflux disease.  I guess they would rather pay $$$$ for treatment of esphogial cancer, instead.

Happy father's day to all you dads out there.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please

Work Just Plain SlOOOOOOOOOOW. Dave wife called off for him, no lost with only one customer today!

Todd Wished you stopped by more often. As far as my foot wound it is looking better. Yea Todd, I was shocked as well when the first Dr's I saw at the VA blew off the problem.

High Cost Meds That is where the VA system is a good thing. My normal Meds are cheap and I get them at Shunks. If my DR wants me to take a expisive Med, I get it from the VA for $8.00.

Fathers Day Used the funds my daughter gave me to have the front grass cut. With the current foot wound well worth it!

UP 831 I will see if I can find something about that on U Tube, I had never heard of it. But I was sort thinking about something like it. Get some extra solder on the wire (beyon tinning the wire) heat up the mounting point then touch the wire to it.

Ulrich Looking forward to some pictures! Sound like you have a good Wife and a great friend.

BBQ is just about done, so it is time to go.

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have an enormous cup of coffee with huge amounts of cream, please.

We are expected to get rain today and all this week, with moderate to severe Thunderstorms, and possible threat of tornados, etc.....

Sometimes auto correct on iPads gives you the goofiest words.  I thought I had spelled threat and the auto correct gave me great.  Sooo, with that in mind, the possible threat of great tornados.

Yesterday, MOH and I went out to get a few more flowers for the front planter.  At Kmart we picked up a couple of new industrial strength lawn chairs.  They are canvas on steel frame and have a little table on the side that folds down.  Looks like a good place to hold my glass of wine if we can ever get to Ravinia at all this year.  (Ravinia is an outdoor concert venue).

I hope everyone is OK and safe.

well,

GM {Good Morning}

Feel sore this monring, but was late on the pain pill, as it was overdue.

I can't really say much about what I TRUELY think of health care/med issues, or I might get banned.

All I CAN say, is that people are going to start refuse items they can no longer afford, and as drug companies ^ cossts, they will kill off the goose that laid the golden egg.

60 Minutes hadd a thing aobut cancer meds las night, Similar to regual meds. I drug that works and appears to prolong lukemia patients by aobut 10 years, went form about $6k to $92K a MONTH. They claim well it works so well, we can charge that for it". I would rather die than pay more than a house costs around here!!!!

As it IS, I am refusing to take a psychotropic that COULD keep me from "being a danger to myself or others" Due to costs.  simply CANNOT afford $575 a MONTH for meds for both pain and psychiatric issues.IT costs me $301.48 in premiums for medical {Olus I MAY have co-pays still} so that is $3617.88 per year PLUS the $575/m in co-pays for meds {NOT including one-offs like antibiotics when needed}at $6900/yr. That Is $10,500++/YR for ME alone. That Is UNAFFORDABLE for us at 140% of federal poverty level.

Not to mention that MOHs insurance {forgetting paycheck deductions for a minte} is an automatic $2600 deductible for ALL care for MOH.

My $10500 PLus house costs of $4020/yr, and food costs of at least $3600/yr [we don't qualify for food stamps anymore}, an utilities of $1770/yr and we are broke then.

It is no wonder the credit cards are going up and not down! There isn't enough money!

charlatan

PRONUNCIATION:
(SHAHR-luh-tuhn) http://wordsmith.org/words/charlatan.mp3

MEANING:
noun: One making false claim to having a certain expertise; a fraud or quack.

ETYMOLOGY:
From French charlatan, from Italian ciarlatano, from cerretano (an inhabitant of Cerreto). Cerreto is a village in Umbria, Italy, once known for its quacks. An alternate etymology pins the origin of the term on the Italian ciarlare (to chatter), of imitative origin. Perhaps the word charlatan is a blend of the two, as charlatans are known for chattering. Earliest documented use: 1607.

USAGE:

“Yet despite his career as a space pitchman, Wernher von Braun was no charlatan, and Neufeld shows clearly that his achievements as a rocketman are unsurpassed.”
Guy Gugliotta; Wernher von Braun, Scientist Without a Moral Compass; Washington Post; Sep 16, 2007

Afternoon, Folks!

What a terrible day! First, my body is just one big ache, thanks to my ruthless drill sergeant in the guise of a physiotherapist. Second, the weather here is just dreadful - cold and wet. No sign of Summer! A day to stay in bed and dream of better days to come.

I am not in the mood to run a train, and that´s an alarming sign!

Zoe, make that a hot chocolate for me and please help me move that carcass of mine to the corner booth. Thank you, dear.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have another refill for my Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee please...

Last night around 11PM I had a nice long post ready to put on here, pushed send, and the site said it was down....  So I shut down and went to bed instead.  I just got home from my littlest Granddaughter's  Kindergarten Graduation ceremony at Waterloo High School.  Cute little kids!  Granddaughter #2 was upset because she had to wear nice clothes to the event!  She would go home untill she got to chang into a pair of shjorts and a T-shirt...  LOL  She is a character.

The weekend was a huge success for the museum.  The one thing we haven't let people go into is the Restoration Building itself for safty reasons.  yesterday early afternoon we got a good rain shower so they opened it up and let people in to get out of the rain.  The guests loved it!  We are now considering how we can open it for the days we are open and [provide for safety and security....  They loved seeing the things being worked on and restored.

Sorry to hear of your woes, Galaxy and hope some way to get the meds you need will be found.

Ulrich, you may not like the "Drill Sergeant", but it will get you better much faster than not doing the therapy!  Hang in there....

Sun is trying to shine outside today...  Currently 74°F with a high of 82°F this afternoon.  I hope to get a bunch of odds and ends done around here today.

Best get myself moving!

Up831,

Ravinia is a great place for tranquility and atmosphere and outstanding classical music. I have been there quite a few times and never have been disappointed. We always tried to get near the hill looking down at the bandshell, for best sound, but it seemed that a lot of people had the same thought. LOL

Good Afternoon,

Another slow day in the Diner.

It has been a fairly busy here the past week, we are about half way through a renovation of our main bathroom. It sure needed it. The tiling around the tub is being done now and then a new vanity will be installed.

Nothing is being done on the railway, except for a little train running. I have the Pacific hauling some express reefers, filled with fish. As it is imaginary fish, there isn't any fishy odour. My wife wouldn't tolerate fishy odour. The N scale is at a full stop likely until fall as it is just too cold in the furnace room right now. Yes I know a cold furnace room seems odd but the central air exchange is attached to the furnace so it does get cold in there. I have been working on a Red Caboose box car kit but only on cool days when the air isn't going.

Galaxy, I too was sorry to hear about your travails with health care.

James Moon, how is your Airedale doing?  They are lovely dogs but I must admit I am partial to terriers. We have a West Highland.

Well the sun has come out again after a rainy morning and I think I'll sit in the sun and read a little more of Steam through London. It is my second read of this book and it is better second time around.

Good evening diners,  Tall cold glass of ice tea for me.  Boy is it hot and humid.  Should have left for Sask a week ago instead of in three weeks.

CN Charlie, we have made the decision to put our lovely Airedale to sleep Wednesday as she is suffering an awful lot and can't get around without assistence.  Really sad about this situation but she has been an absolutely amazing dog.

Glued down three feet of ties and stained another batch this afternoon.  Also worked on the two curvers.  I use joint compound to level up kerfed road bed after nailing it down.  It seems to work well and fills all the kerf cuts and smoots out the roadbed.  Will try to get a picture up this week of my progress.

Well, time to check on the pooch and diner.

Hope everyone has had a good Monday.

Paul, the GM asked me in around about way if I knew the store was for sale. I told him Marv called me a few weeks ago and told me. Said I will make more money at the St Charles store. I took that as a good sign that I was a keeper.

Good evening .

CN Charlie. ... Sounds like the bathroom will soon be first class. ... Is that a CN Pacific you are running?

James .... I'm sorry to hear about your dog. Like others, we have been through losing a pet several times. It is always a sad time.

Galaxy ... Like others, I'm sorry to hear about all the problems you have. Keep you chin up. Prayers for you.

V8 Dennis ... That's definately a creative solution to a broken vacuum belt.

Todd ... It was good seeing you, and thanks for commenting about my Mom's situation. She's 95 and remarkably can still play the piano, but it is always the tunes she learned when she was much younger.

Ken ... I recall your losing your dogs. Not fun. Shaddy was a beautiful white dog.

Happy model railroading, everybody  .

Evening all. Just stopping in for a RBF amd then I'm going to bed. High today was 97, with probably 80 to 90 % humidity. Tomorrow is a repeat, so the order of the day will be hydration. Since everyone is talking about dogs, I have to say we have 9 currently at the house. 1 is our family dog that we've had since he was a puppy. The other 8 are part of a animal rescue group that we foster for (since we have 22.5 acres,we've got the room to spare). Now add 16 chickens to that, amd you know the fun I have every evening when it comes to Taki g care of them all.
Well, my RBF is here, so I'm going to sit here at the rivet counter and enjoy

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual mountain sized cup of coffee and rivers of cream, please.

yesterday, I was joking about great tornados, and last night one or two touched down south of Chicago.  there may have been some fatalities, I don't know.

Frank:  Sounds like you and I like the same area of the Ravinia park.  And you're right about outstanding classical music.  (I don't really care for the pop shows).  Once I got to see the New York Phil play two of my all time favorite pieces from Debussy's "Nocturnes." ( "Nauges" and "Fetes").  I was almost moved to tears.  The subtilties  of live performance come out that are just not discernible from recordings.  And I'm practically deaf!

Yesterday coming home from work, I saw train headlights a half mile or so back down the tracks.  It was a real quick glance.  Lousy timing I thought.   Missed seeing a train.

Sad

Ken: those are some nice dogs you have there.

Well, I have to get ready for work.

i hope everyone is OK and safe.
