Good evening all. Just a TBF for me. Had a very busy, and warm day today. Enjoying a quiet evening at home, kids are playing quietly after their obligatory mugging of me when I got home. Thinking of breaking out my two unpainted, undecorated, Athearn BB covered hoppers and actually painting them. I've got primer and CSX hopper tan already, just gotta actually put paint to plastic. Well, I see my float is here, so I'm going to work it.

well, I am up and on, but not for long.

MOH has drs appt to evlute back issues.

I hrdly slept last night, just woke up every 1.5-2 hours, sometimes because the CPAP mask is old {awaiting a new one} and it leaks and causes problems then.

SO far I feel better this morning than yesterday for example. we will see how I get on through the day.

here is today's word:

stridulate

PRONUNCIATION:
(STRIJ-uh-layt) http://wordsmith.org/words/stridulate.mp3

MEANING:
verb intr.: To make a shrill creaking noise by rubbing body parts together.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin stridere (to make a harsh sound). Earliest documented use: 1838.

USAGE:

Scientists recently discovered that in some ant species, the queen is a consummate percussionist, equipped with a tiny, uniquely ridged organ for stridulating out royal fanfares that help keep her workers in line.
Natalie Angier; Surviving by Disguising; The New York Times; Sep 7, 2010.

I have a couple of candles to light and a lot prayers on the chain for this morning!

TRy and make it a great day!

Good Morning Diners,

Ulrich:  Glad to see you're back amongst us.  Hope you can recover well.

Not much to report, so I'll tune in later.

That’s fine looking furniture there Ray, very little MDF either I suspect.
I hope you aren’t offended if I pass on your kind offer of a root beer float Johnboy, its only very recently that root beer has become available here, and after years of reading about how good it was, I’m afraid I just can’t cotton on to it.

Eh? What are you, a veteran or something. My CPAP rig comes from a local vendor (via Medicare) and I can get a new mask every six month, just for the asking. Walk into store, pick it up, they fill out the papers and I'm good to go.

I do not use the full mask, just the nasal pillows. Wroks good, but I have issues with oepning my mouth. A soft C-collar (no provided by Medicare) corrects this issue.

Afternoon, Folks!

Just dropping in to say hello and report that I survived today´s PT. I went straight to bed and slept for three hours when I was back! Thank goodness I have a two day´s rest before the ordeal starts again!

I´ll be sitting quietly in the corner booth and watch who´ll be coming by...

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Heritage Flakes Organic Cereal and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee in the R&GV RR mug please....

Sun was out for a while this morning.... cloud cover is rolling in.  Talking the possibility of thunderboomers this afternoon.  Sure would like to find time when the soil is not mud in the raised beds to till them and get the garden put in.  Yesterday I did some measuring and the stone circle raised bed I was going to put in for herbs won't fit where I wanted to put it....  Back to the drawing board I guess.  This afternoon I have to go over to my son's house and wait for the Granddaughters to get off the bus.  Tomorrow I will be out at the museum for a training session and then work train crew for a party in the afternoon.

Galaxy and Lion, I also use the "pillows" on my CPAP.  Every once in a while they will start to leak when I move my head and the head gear falls off.... LOL  While the  company that I get my supplies from has a local office here in Geneva, they don't take care of the supplies.  That has to be done via telephone.  They call me and leave a message (I don't usually pick up the phone unless I recognise who is calling), then I get to call them back.  conversation goes like this. Hello, how may I help you? Hi I am calling you back about my CPAP supplies. May I have your name, address, account #, blood type, etc?  What?  Please speak up, I am deaf and I have trouble talking on the telephone! OK, is this better? What?  Please speak up...  let me try to adjust my hearing aids....  Ok Let's try again.  Is this better?.....  And so it goes....  Unfortunately there is no other choice that I can get to work other than using the telephone for this....  I have gotten so I speak extra soft so they say What?,  then I say "Exactly!"  Life is fun! Whistling

I'm hoping that the contractor might show up this afternoon if it rains....  This is the busy time of year for most of them and since my furniture won't arrive for another 6 weeks I am not in a rush, rush situation, but....  would like to get it done.

Have a good one!

Lion,

No disrespect to you. but YOUR issues with CPAP and MINE may be VASTLY different.

1} I get a new complete mask/hose/O2 receptive system each THREE months.

2} Nose pillows DO NOT stay on me in my fitfull sleep, induced by some meds I take to "function normally" {ASK MOH who SLEEPS with me, YOU DON'T, Thank the stars}. I need COMPLETE NOSE COVERAGE.

3} mY SETUP is DIFFERENT because I have OXYGEN FEED.

4} "Local vendor" SHIPS mask/hose/ O2 connector/filters primary/filters secondary to my HOME free of charge.

5} when system fails, or power goes out, I have nasal canulas to feed me precious O2 I NEED while I sleep.

ALL THIS IS WHY I HAVE CPAP. I FAIL to BREATH on my own when sleeping, and need O2 boost to be sure I am not deprived of O2.

I am glad  YOUR system works FOR YOU! BUT YOUR system is NOT ALL INCLUSIVE.

HENCE the REASON THERE ARE DIFFERENT sytems!!!!! FOR DIFFERENT PEOPLE!

Afternoon guys

a warm one out today, might have to put the air on later to take the muggy feeling out. Not much planned other then watching f1 practise at 2. This time next week I will be at the irl race in Toronto, always a good time but it's a month earlier this year due to the pan am games in July. Might get a little layout work in tonight at some point. still haven't recovered 100% from the infection I had a couple weeks ago. I have been off work this week and have been getting energy back slowly.

i can't believe how bad a infection can make you feel, not something I want to do again.

No disrespect to you either, for that would be the last thing from my mind.

Mostly I was picking on the VA and the terible service they give to our vets. I am a Vietnam vet, and I will not go anywhere near that outfit.

Afternoon all, just got home from w**k and thought I'd stop in for a glass of sweet tea. Gotta head for our monthly trip to the grocery store this evening. Also have to go by the feed store to get more chicken feed. Not much else happening. Got informed by my wife that we have a watermelon at my FIL house that needs to be eaten, so that'll probably be my excitement for the night. Well, I'd better get going. Later taters

Good evening to you all.  Finished my trenching project for the new gutter drains.  Dug over thirty feet today and can feel it tonight.  Glad I can still do fairly physical work at 72 years of age.

Ulrich, certain glad to see you back.  Good luck with your physical therapy.  Hope you are able to regain all your senses with help from therapy.

Weighmaster, sincere condolences on the loss of your wife.

Well, its time for a nice cool shower and then some chocolate ice cream and iced tea.  Hopefully tomorrow will allow a little time to work on the layout as I have worked all week on this drainage project instead of my track work.

Best wishes to all for a nice weekend.

To Vets on the site....I guess I must be the fortunate one?

I am a disabled Vietnam Vet 67 and the VA I go to since 68, which is Hines...Hines, IL. and I have never had a problem with them. Had numerous operations of sorts, six alone for reconstruction of my right shoulder, tumor surgery 1977right chest turned out to be a piece of schrapnel from 67, that somehow was missed in Okinawa. Bladder cancer surgery 1999 and a stroke in 2007. In all that time, I NEVER really could say anything bad about them. I was even a volunteer at the ECC ward for 3yrs, (extended care center) for Vets who have no one to take care of them, now there were some guy's that were in bad shape, I've watched quite a few, come and go, in those three yrs. and never heard them complain either. A great way to learn..compassion and understanding....there's a great big world out there, that many never see and some don't want to leave theirs.

I usually don't talk about my life... sorry for Your experience....but I can't agree.....not all VA's were like people claim.

I probably would not be here today....If it wasn't for the care I received.

God Bless..

Take Care! Big Smile

Good Afternoon, Folks!

Not a single post for over 11 hours? This place seems to be deserted for the day!

I am all sore and stiff from yesterday´s PT. I hope it´ll do me good - one day...

My friend Lothar came to see me and it was good to have him here and do a bit of rail talk. As I won´t be able to do any w*rk on my layout, he volunteered to get it in shape for me, so I´ll be able to run a train. He took whatever I´ve got with him and promised to return something that works by tomorrow evening. Isn´t that sweet of him? Makes me feel much better!

Galaxy - what on earth crossed your path to make you so , say, emotional? I don´t think that Brother Elias meant any harm by sharing his experience with CPAP machines, veteran hospitals et al. Zoe, get those guys whatever they like to have for a drink, it´s on me (and no, I haven´t struck paydirt...)

Have a good one, y´all!

Howdy ...

Ulrich ... Your friend, Lother, sounds like a very good person. Tell him hello from the Diner.

This weekend is the annual 400 mile yard sale along US 68 in KY. That is the main highway that passes through here. We went to town and back this morning and saw enough of the yard sales on that short trip for the year. In the pas,t we would stop, but it was nothing but used junk. Nothing we wanted.

This morning is the monthly cruise night for old vehicles. Our 31 year old Porsche qualifies, and we might participate.

With model railroading, I'm still weathing freight cars.

Happy model railroading to everyone

Good midday all. Janie, I'll have a bacon cheeseburger with fries and a root beer to wash it down. Not much happening for me, called in today at w**k, so I'm not there. Probably going to break out the paint today and see if I can actually put a coat on my two covered hoppers to get them ready for grain service on my layout. Other than that, I'm resting today.

Good Afternoon,

A rainy day here in the Great White North, at least in my patch of it. The plants need though so it is welcome.

Weighmaster, sorry to hear your news but do stop in here. I must admit that I had to google your town to see where it was in Minnesota. I suspected south of Minneapolis and I see I was right. We go to Minnesota 5 or 6 times a year but stay in the far north of it, namely Thief River Falls.

Garry, saw those photos of your layout on the other forum and have to say that I think you are doing an incredible job on your layout. It really looks fantastic.

Ulrich, glad to see you back and hear that you are on the mend.

Well I think I'll head downstairs to the furnace room, aka, my workshop and finish up that second 50' PK2 boxcar. Then I might start on a couple of Red Caboose kits I picked up last year. I seem to be in a kit building mood. I have a couple of Branchline passenger car kits too that look like a challenge.

Hope everyone is fine,

CN Charlie

Evenin'....

Janie, the place is kinda empty tonight isn't it.......  I could use a nice cup of decaf please.  Yes my R&GV RR Mug woukld do well.

Went out to the museum this morning for training in exactly how the train rides will be done this year.  i think what they have in mind should work well, and we all figure that changes may occur as needed for the first few runs.  We are figuring a half hour round trip with little layover time at each end.  This year we leave Industry Station and head to midway, then immediately head back South but enter the upper yard to drop off the passengers at the restoration building. Visitors  detrain and we head back to industry.  After the first trip we should have riders every time so there will be little down time.  We will be turning the ticket office in the Industry Depot into a.....  Are you ready?   A Ticket Office!  We will also be selling candy, chips and pop/water etc. from the ticket office as well.  There will be a display out in the waiting room with shirts and other items for sale.  We have always allowed some people to get a cab ride.  This year you can buy a cab ride.  $10 more.

After lunch we had a run through for a Birthday party for a pair of twins (4 or 5 years old and love trains).  There was  37 people in the party.  The twins and their parents got a cab ride on the way back from the Restoration Building to Industry Yard.

Sunny but cool here in the Finger Lakes today.  The meter downstairs says it made 28.5 kWh today.

Have a great one!

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer Please, what Ulrich is paying? Stick out tongue

Work I was shocked, Dave was only 3 minutes late and was acting way more nomal than I have ever seen! Heck, I sort of enjoyed talking with him and he was never lost for words? Will we see how long it last, I hope things are turning around for him.

HO Steam Engine Question. I have started to get my PCM Y6b back on the rails. I reprogramed the Loksound decoder (oddly I lost the file on my computer with decoder pro) and had to set it to default, but that is not the help I need.

Best way to clean the side rods with out taking them apart? Have a lot of lint and gunk build up in the joints. After that, it will be time to find the odd screeching sound it started to make. That is when I put it on the RIP track about 6 months ago. Darn thing only has around 1500 hours of run time! Laugh

Afternoon ladies just a cool beer for me. Sorry for not dropping by lately but have been overtaken by the great house move. Honestly our flat looks like "box city" i never knew we had so many things in the place. We also had a dispute with our phone and wifi provider they wanted over $200 to keep us connected for 10 days! Refused that generous offer so they cut us off but we have arranged for a different provider at our new house. At the moment piggybacking off our friendly neighbours. After friday will hope to be back to normal.

Ulrich it great to see you back I hope you are getting better and stronger everyday.

JaBear have noted your suggestion about hosting the Diner here in Scotland and I will try to do that as soon as we are settled into our new house, have already started to source videos of british steam engines but will have to work out how to get them into the Diner!

Regards to everyone else

Good morning!  We spent a couple of days in Maine visiting with our daughter and biking.  The first day was mostly on an off-road trail, which looks like a rail trail because it's flat and straight, but is actually built over a natural gas pipeline.  The second day our girl led us over the back roads, which were really, really nice.  There was very little traffic and the roads were well-paved.  She is training for another triathlon, and she was trying out her new "aero-bars" on the bike.  Those are the handlebar extensions that go out the front, allowing the rider to lean forward in a more aerodynmic position while still controlling the bike.  We did lots of miles and ate lots of good food.

Last night I watched the hockey game.  It was about all the energy I had.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Good morning ...

CN Charlie ... Thanks for commenting about the layout photos. It was Jeffrey who steered me accross the street. I happened the first time he was having an amputation, and I asked him if he wanted me to post information about his condtion in other forums. Each one of the various forums has some very good people particpatimg. I still post accross the street, but don't have time for all forums. .... Glad to hear you are assembling kits. You mentioned Branchline kits. I have one Branchline heavyweight pullman I put together several years ago, and I like the results very much even though it took a long time to assemble it.

Brian ... I would like to see the Diner visitng Scotland. My ancestors are Scottish.

Ken ... I can see why you do not want to take apart the rods and valve gear on the steam locomotive. It could becoem a nightmare doing that. I suggest using dental picks and slowly remove the fibers and dirt particles. I'm not sure if it will work however without seeing what you are looking at. A few years ago, I purchased dental picks at Harbor Freight, and I use them for a lot of little chores.

Mr. B .... Sounds like you are enjoying bike riding.

Ray ... I always enjoy hearing about your time at the RR Museum . I must admit I am envious. The closest RR Museum to here is too far to become active as you are.

Frank ... It is good to hear you are here today because of the care you received.

Bama ... have fun working on the grain hoppers.

Jim M .... The drainage project sounds like lots of hard work.

Terry ... Your reaction (Wow) is similar to mine. What is new with your layout?

Have a nice Sunday everybody.

Gooooood Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast buffet please. Booth? Um, no I think I’ll just pull up a stool at the ol’ Rivet Counter today, thank you.

Gary (Weighmaster)- I’m very sorry to hear of your wifes passing. That is similar to what happened with my Mother and the paramedics “bringing her back”. No brain function. I know that the decision to remove the support is not easy and heart breaking under any circumstance.  My prayers are with you and the family.

Hoping for some good news about Ulrich…. Whew! Though it could be better, I’m glad you are ok. Keep up the spirit and keep up with the PT. Hope all progresses well.

Good to see some of the “older guys” popped in…though it’s great to see “new guys”. ConfusedWhen do  you go from “New Guy” to “Old guy” in this place anyway? Oh well I guess as soon as you’re no longer surprised about the amount of stuff they pack in this dining car you’re an old guy.

(ducks) Wow. IndifferentWhat was THAT all about.

Wanting to BBQ some ribs today but with the projected rain/weather, not sure when if at allGrumpy. The keep changing it almost hourly pushing it back, bringing it forward. Last time they did this we got nothing. My luck, get the ribs on and about an hour in, the skies will open up and we’ll get a two hour downpourHuh?.

Oh!! Pecan flavored syrup…..Big Smile Dinner

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Afternoon all. Just stopping in between coats of paint on my grain hoppers and on a resurrected Life Like GP38-2 (it went splat over a year ago and busted the sturrup steps on the front and rear). I just also made it a dummy locomotive so that I could continue using it. (Nowhere near able to be updated to dcc). Also going to be tinkering with the CW40-8 with the missing driveshafts (would love to make it able to run under its own power as I bought it from Jeff before his passing). Once I've got all that put together, I might be able to run a train in at least a loop on the floor.
Well, I guess I need to get back to painting.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I could use a cup of decaf right at the moment....  Ah, add a slice of the strawberry rhubarb pie and a hunk of sharp chedder cheese to that if you would.

Been a bright sunny, warm day here in the Finger Lakes.  I got up in time to head out to church today as it was Sunday School Sunday where the kids lead worship.  My DIL was to be recognized for serving as a Sunday School Teacher, my #1 Granddaughter was to receive her bible (church gives all the 2nd. graders a bible at the end of the year), and the children's choirs sing a few times.  I was surprised to find that my family didn't show up today....  Got more than a little worried, so as soon as I got home, I called my son.  Everything was fine!  DIL and the girls were on a Girl Scout Campout.

I got the Peppers, Cabbage, and Broccoli transplanted out in the garden.  Depending on the weather tomorrow, I may have most of it finally in.  Still have to plant the parsnips, carrots, lettuce, radishes, etc.  Have one raised bed left to go. Weather is calling for rain tonight, Scattered Thunderboomers tomorrow and Tuesday, and Isolated thunderstorms on Wednesday.  I'm hoping it will get bad enough that the contractor will show up and finish my living room work!

What?  Model Railroading?  I can't even get to anything down there.  The room I am working in is filled with oak boards waiting to be installed up here in the living room.....

Hope you all have a good one!
