Good Afternoon!

I was released from the hospital today.

On May 15th, I was unable to get up in the morning, just could not move an inch. My speech was garbled, so Petra called the ambulance. Well, the ambulance did not come, but a helicopter, which took me directly to the stroke unit at the University of Hamburg hospital. The stroke must have happened right before I tried to get up, so there were less than 20 minutes until the treatment began.

This has probably saved my life.

I am still suffering from the effects of the stroke. My left side is more or less useless, walking without any help does not work. I am quite positive though that I will regain control to a degree, which allows me to lead a close to normal life.

For the moment I am just glad to be home again!

Petra´s aunt (the one in the nearby nursing home) passed away last week. She had been suffering from MS the past 40 years and her condition was critical since April. As much as we are saddened by the loss, we feel that it was a blessing for her to go. The memorial service will be held next week, but I am afraid I won´t be able to attend.

Gary - Petra and I are sad about your wife´s passing. Please accept our sincere condolences!

I will try to come here as often as possible. My days are filled with PT to get back to normal. I have to go there every day except the weekends. Walking down the one flight of stairs from our apartment takes 10 minutes, the walk to the parking lot another 10 minutes. I guess I´ll be beat when I am back from the PT.

Blessings to all of you!
