Correct. I was wondering why Darth Vader was selling Cigars.

Nicotine is definitely a product of the Dark Side.

Thursday I part with a tooth.  I will be getting an implant to replace it, as it's the last one in the back and the two that used be behind it have already gone.  I'm not looking forward to this.  It's kind of a long process, as Doctor Cynthia needs to build up bone first to hold the implant.

Yesterday, I gave up on the idea of using IR LEDs and cross-the-tracks IR phototransistors for detectors for my crossing gates.  I installed a couple of the between-the-rails visible/IR detectors a bit further up the rails, so I only need one detection point instead of having them on multiple tracks.  I still need to add a bit of supplemental lighting, but these should do the job for now.

Good Morning

We are getting 10%'ed on here...and looking at varying levels of dullness for our viewing pleasure as well.

Nothing much here to report except more doctor appointments this week...le sigh.

Have a good day!!

The figure is a Preiser model, I believe. I painted him dark brown to turn him to wood. I think he needs to be on some sort of pedestal. As I recall, there is a full-headdress figure available now, which would be a better choice.

Good morning all!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes other then its 35 and sunny..Next week its supposed to be in the 70s so,its time to break out the camera and my railfan lawn chair and enjoy the beautiful weather.

I went to the club yesterday and worked on three freight cars so,they will meet my "derailment and troublefree" standards. These three cars was troublesome the last  time I used them.I'll start my inspection and if needed RIP of my cars week after next-no meeting next sunday due to the dog show.

I shall have a cup and look over the forums..

Have a good'un! Thumbs Up

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual extra large cup of coffee with an abundant amount of cream, please.

Well Diners, baseball season is underway, which means summer and warm weather is on the way, Yay!  Tis the season for home improvements and planting gardens, neither of which I'm good at.  Changing a sink faucet can be an entire afternoon project for me.

When I was young, I always wanted a Ferrari.  Now, even if I could afford one, I don't think I'd buy one.  (What's next to you on the freeway.)

Quote for the day, sort of..

"All these places have their meaning, with people and friends, I still recall.  i know I'll often stop and think about them, in my life, I've loved them all". -Lennon, McCartney

i hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Whistling

Hi Gang,

Who is working the Sunday evening shift ?  Oh, it must be Brunhilda as those are German or Bavarian smells coming from the kitchen.   Well surprise me, a large plate of whatever you've got simmering out there. Tonight I'll have a diet Pepsi as well.

Talking of cars we miss >>> mine is my 55 Chev convertable, I have kicked myself many times for trading it off.  It was silver metallick with a black top and a red & white interior. I had a lot of fun in that car.  It just had a 283.

Galaxy, I'm with the rest of the crew here and am glad you checked in and OK.  Don't be a stranger, we appreciate you here.

Ulrich,  keep plugging away at getting yourself better. Don't be afraid to go to a Naturalpath as well and get a different point of view and maybe a healthier cure than all the stuff the Big Pharms are putting out.

My Wife just dropped a newspaper over my shoulder and said I should read this article.>> It is pretty interesting, it is about and Artist/cartoonist who sets all his stories in a ficticious place called Dominion City, which in turn he has built over the years as a cardboard model.  Like most of us, he admits that it will never really be finished. He says he builds about six buildings a year and wishes he could build sixty. He only uses household items to build with and most of it is just different kinds of cardboard.  It is pretty impressive and it is good enough to be on a cross Canada tour right now and is in Regina for a while, so I will try to get to see it.   If you are interested to see more, just google  'www.Seth, Dominion City'  and that should pull up his page.    Enjoy.

Well I finished my first Hydrocal building (Downtown Deco)  which was supposed to be a two story Beverage plant, but to me it just didn't work as that. One thing was there was no loading area, no frieght door or dock. So I decided to change it in to something that I thought really suited the structure and that was a smoke shop or tobacconist.  I called it "Kaw-liga's Cigars"  After that old song Kaw-Liga was a wooden Indian standing at the door, who fell in love with an Indian Maid over at the antique store.  So now my focus will have to be finding a figure of an Indian Chief with Head dress to stand at the front door.  Will try and get a pix on here soon.

Think that's all I got for tonight.  It's been rainy here and very cool, just above freezing but still better off than 150 miles north of here as they got 12" on snow again.

Prayers and best wishes for all who stand in need.

Keep smiling, it takes less muscles that a frown.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Johnboy out.........................till later

Yeah, Ray, I know.  But this was also to be my Mom's car.  She was in her 50s, and honestly, she never learned to drive a car, only operate one.  A standard would have been too much.  I should note in passing that my car at this point was a Triumph Spitfire.  I literally had never driven a standard until I drove it out of the dealership.

When I pass from this earth, if Saint Peter hands me the keys to my 75 MGB, I will know I'm in Heaven.  On the other hand, if I get the yellow Pontiac Sunbird station wagon, well, then I'm headed for the hot basement.  If it makes it that far.

ROFL!  Just jerking your chain a bit my friend...

Afternoon folks!

Chloe a cup of hat chocolate would be great right now.

Church this morning was the Confirmation class (high School Kids) putting on the worship.  They did a great job.  Great bunch of young people to a one!  I just got done putting away groceries.  Have a 90¢ discount when the PiP needs fossilized Dinosaur Dung next.  Today have been a mix of cloudy and bright sun.

Galaxy, glad you stopped in.  Yes, we were a bit worried about you!  Hope your counciling (all kinds) goes well for you.  Stop in when you feel the urge...

Barry great on the solar panels!  They are great to have for many reasons...

MisterBeasley
and had an automatic, as all good family cars should.

What?  Who says?  I have only owned two vehicles with the super-sloppy transmissions.  Got rid of the first one after 6 months.  Hated it!!!  Absolutely terrible (Dodge Pickemup truck).  I was driving 4 speeds on the floor when I was 7 years old (and those you had to double clutch to down shift).  At eight I had mastered the old dodge pick up with its 3 on the column and all the cars.  My late wife, both my sons, even my sisters, all prefered 4 or 5 on the floor.  My sister in Canandaigua wouldn't buy an automatic because she doesn't think she could learn to drive something that complicated..... WhistlingLaugh  When I first test drove the PiP (Electronic CVT), I stomped my left foot on the floor several times, turned to the salesman and asked, "Where the HECK is the clutch?!?"  He knows me , so he just scowled at me and kept quiet.  Family car.... Sheesh!

Yesterday I finally hooked up a bunch of tow ropes and tie downs and used my old Come-along to straighten up the mailbox post.  Cut a couple wedges to drive in the ground to hold it in place out of some old treated 2 x 4 stock I had.  Took off the come-along and ropes today after church.

I may be heading over to my son's house in a bit.  They are ordering out for supper tonight and told me to come over.  DIL is taking Granddaughter #1 (I think) on a field trip with her Girl Scout Troop someplace nearby this afternoon...  I'l be waiting to hear from them.

Catch you all later!

Good Afternoon

Galaxy: Good to see you here on occasion. I was kinda worried as were others. If you need to vent here we are. Take care.

We had to have a cloudbank over our'n heads here....which....20%'ed on us...le sigh. So much for the sunny day....

I have a mitful of doctor appointments to do next week....Ray: remember the thing about if it was not for doc appointments we would have no social life at all? Let me see...I have a cardiologist to see, an oncologist to see, a vampire visit and X-ray thing to get to, a regular doctor appontment....and then...another bone scan...Sigh Whistling

Since I am here, I might as well see about another 50lb rack of ribs with a basket of fries...4 SRP's and a barrel of RBF please....i am in need of a snack. Dinner Mischief Whistling

Good Afternoon Diners,

just a quick note.  Taking a short break while MOH is on the phone with her sister.

Galaxy: good to have you back.  Some of us were a little concerned.  Thoughts like "Galaxy's MOH, having disposed of the body......" Came to mind.

tried to make a very weak attempt at quotes, but not to good.

well, back to work.

i hope everyone is OK, safe and warm.

Hey diners,

It's been a windy and cloudy day with the sun popping out here and there. I washed the dog today and he didn't want to listen to me when he got dirty on our walk. Pretty sure a boring day, and Galaxy I do understand take some rest from the internet and get life back together.

Afternoon guys

spent the morning getting out the bike tools and bike stand.in the winter my workshop is set up for just model railroading but from spring to fall it has to share some space with my bike and stand and associated tools. It's a little cramped in there but everything is organized and in its spot. If I am working on a model railroad project I can move the bike out to the basement as it sits right in front of the bench. I'm hoping Friday I can get the first ride of the year in

Ken, when I was in college, my Dad bought a 67 GTO as the family car.  It might have been his mid-life crisis thing.  It was nicely appointed and had an automatic, as all good family cars should.

Good Afternoon Folks!

A dull and gray day here. We are back to what we usually have at this time of the year - plenty of Storm...

I still have issues holding any food. I am hungry, but without any appetite. The good side of it I have lost 30 pounds. That´s quite a lot in such a short time and I will address it at my next appointment with the docs next week.

Galaxy - good to see you again. We have benn missing you! Take a rest and take good care of yourself!

I did get around running a train on my make-shift layout. It´sbegging for more, but at the moment I lack the strength and the drive to do some serious MRRing. I hope this will come back soon!

Supper time coming up - that´ll be chamomilla tea and salt biscuits for me again - yuck!

Welcome back, Galaxy.  We've all missed you, and to be honest, we were worried.

I, too, have issues with my marriage, and I've found that this site and another sports site I hang out on are my only real outlets.  If it ain't politics or religion, and you need an ear, be our guest.  There isn't one of us who is strong enough to carry the world on his shoulders.  (Somewhere, there's an Atlas joke in that, but I can't seem to find it.  Probably stuck on a slow boat from China, like the track.)

Good morning.

"G" ... Good to see you. ... I'm wondering if you like 1968 Galaxy's. .... In general, most people need to take breaks once in while from whatever they are doing. .... April is nearly over. Are you or Ulrich opening the May Diner?

Yestrday, a model railroad friend visited here, and we ran trains. The layout performed well, and there were hardly any derailments. Mr. Murphy was quiet.

Happy model railroading.

I jsut needed a break form here, and concentrated on other sites that had more meaning to me for what is going on now. You might understand you might not, so ask me no questions I'll tell you no lies. It's VERy complicated, trust me. ANd some of you might not approve of the tactics. Lets just say my Mental Health therapsit is on board with what I am doing and up to!!

Thank you for sharing some of your nation's history. At some point I hope the contributions made by the ANZAC forces in Burma is brought to light. A very good friend of mine was a combat photographer, for what ever reason was hooked to ANZAC forces in North Africa, went to India, and then went into Burma with them when Col. Merill led his raider group in to cut the Jap advance. He always spoke very highly of them. I met some when I was TDY at PhanRang in 63. as I recall they were a stand up bunch.

Enjoy your posts and pictures---

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please

Work Front It was a bag of mixed blessing and feelings today. I worked by my self today and it was slooooow but a good day for me. I had $2330.00 in sales and sold yet another good sizes Spiff Memory Foam mattress set! Yes Yep, the 4th one in 3 days, maybe next month house payment will not be that much as a pain.

Reason I said mixed blessing is because of Dave. His wife finally realized something was not just right with him. His speech was slurred and he was blacking out / fainting and called in to say she was taking him to the ER. I feel bad I never called her and told her I thought something was wrong with him. It is not like we where friends and I knew his family. If Dave comes back, I hope it is the New And Improved Dave, I am sick of dealing with the ate up Dave!

blownout cylinder
The very first car I had was a 1960 Ford Galaxie 500...with a 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree...which soon got turned into a 427 monster...

Blownout I have posted this before but what the heck. My dad did not want to be a Hot Rodder like him so my first car was a 1963 VW Bug.(Did Not Work) It was painted Plum Crazy with fiberglass rear fenders and chrome revresed wheels sporting G 60 15's. I started out adding headers, then Zenith 2 barrel carb. It helped, but I only got up to 45 HP and stock 1300 CC was 39 HP. What to do, what to do. Whistling

I know, lets buy a 1973 block, get a 2200 CC EMPI Roller Bearing Crank and Barrels (Cylinder's) and pistons. Use 302 Z-28 rods, TRW roller cam, Dual Port Polised Head, Bigger Vales, Bosh Mag, dual Weber 40 IDA Carbs, Holley Fuel Pump, Lighten flywheel and a racing clutch, Hurst Shifter and close ratio 3rd and 4th gear! Big Smile Doing The Tim Allen Grunt!

I never ran the Bug at the strip, but I would guess it was around a 13.5 car. Off the line, well may be 1.6 at the 60 foot mark. My claim to fame was when I smoked a 67 4-speed Tri Power Goat. He had no idea what I was packing and lite his tires and I was gone. Laugh

Hope we hear from Galxey soon, and best wishes for Dave.

Evenin' folks!

Barry, I'll be right over (as soon as I find my passport).  I always love some good BBQ Ribs!  Think they'll still be warm by the time I get through Customs?

Actually My son called this afternoon and told me to go over to their house for supper as he was cooking out (hamburgers and hot dogs) Barry, did you get solar installed?  I had the best day so far this year.  doesn't get too much better than the output today.  The meter say it made 29.24 kWh today.  Absolutely gorgeous sunny day.  Could have been a few degrees warmer, but all told simply gorgeous out there.

The contractor got the new window installed today...  Some photos of the work.  First some more damage.  The next step will be to remove and replace the Fascia boards:

A good vapor barrior has been installed and then the 1/2" foam insulation under the siding:

Then the wimdow was installed:

Hopefully by the end of the week his part of the project will be done...

Hope you all have a great night.  Also hope Galaxy is OK!

Afternoon Everyone!

Knock, knock - the door slowly opens with a screeching noise. A big fella limps into the place, quietly sitting down at the RC, signalling Flo to bring him a mug of chamomilla tea.

DO I feel miserable! Those meds really put me onto my knees. The moment I eat something I feel like bringing it up again Ick!. Doc says there is nothing we can do about it, it is supposed to be that way. A cure that makes you feel even more sick than before?

Petra is trying to cheer me up, but it does not work well. For someone feeling sick in his stomach, the prospect of some goodies out of Petra´s hands is not very tempting, unfortunately.

Well, I am positive better days will come.

My email to our friend G. remains unanswered. Wherever he is right now, I hope he´s doing OK!

Speaking of cars we one owned - in my mid-twenties, I had a 1958 Mercedes 180, nicely colored in a dark blue ( a little darker than in the following picture).

It was my every day car, which required a lot of care. I should have kept it, but I could afford only one car in those days, so I sold it to get a more reliable one. Do I regret this today! They don´t make `em like they used to!

Have a great one, folks!

Mornin' Everyone!

Zoe, I'll hvae a bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend dark roast coffee to start the day.  Yes my R&GV RR mug thank you.

We are having a massive solar spill here in the Finger Lakes today!!!  That means it is a nice day outside.  Should translate into a super day for making electric for me. Need to get 100 kWh yield over the next 6 days to equal what they made last year.  Very doable I think if the weather co-operates....  May have close to 30 kWh of that just today.  Currently 42°F going up to 54° this afternoon.

The contractor is here this morning working on the outside the living room.  He has his Dad working for him today.  They have the new window ready to install and are putting in the rest of the new sheathing on the outside.  Got a few photos already this morning and will get more later.

I will be spending most of the day putting together a file to be able to print out Nametags for the Convention.  Also need to get materials together for part of a news article for the Local newspaper (Finger Lakes Crimes, er, Times...) about this years recipients of the Martin Luther King Scholarship Scholarships.  Great bunch of young people I might add!

Got my car assignment this morning for the LA&L 50th. Anniversary Train Excursions.  I will one of two Car Hosts in Coach #3.  These cars are the NYC Empire Express coaches put in service on December 7, 1941.  (Speaking of Important days to remember...)  They were the best and most comfortable coaches to ever be in service at that time.  The R&GV RR Museum has reconditioned these cars and has made them ready to be used in service for excursions.  The museum works in co-operation with the LA&L (which we interchange with) to do them a couple times a year.  More about the excursion can be found here: http://rgvrrm.org/LAL50/  Here is a photo from a couple years ago.  Motive power will be the LA&L's beautiful Alco Century units.

I better get myself into w*rk mode if I am to get anything done today...  Later!
