Good morning, everyone! Recovering from another Tuesday Night Hockey game, which we won 18-16.
Yes, Matt, 18-16. We're not the NHL. Welcome aboard!
I grew up when standard transmissions were more common, but never was formally tested on one. The licenses where I grew up (New York) did not distinguish between automatic and standard. My current license in Massachusetts has my picture with glasses, and I am required to wear them when driving. I have no idea how they deal with contacts, but I don't wear those.
I'm glad I saved my wire-buying expedition until today. The painters are here with sanders, preparing the house. You know how your head feels when the dentist is drilling? That's what being inside my house is like right now.

Motorcycles were my preferred mode of transport but my first car was an Australian built Chrysler Valiant VG Regal 2 door hard top with a 245 Hemi straight six. Had enough room to hold a party inside.

Good Morning Diners,
Flo, I'll have my usual humongous cup of coffee with copious amounts of cream, please.
Galaxy: Good to see you back with good quotes. Shows you're back to being your usual self. Besides, I was running out of thoughtful song lyrics.
Nothing to report train wise. Funny how it just seems like everything else gets in the way. One of these days soon, I want to get over to LHS to see about some detail parts for those U-33C shells I picked up at the train show.
The city is making a big deal out of the NFL draft coming up. Much ado about nothing IMHO. They're making this big media blitz so the teams can say, "Uuuh, I want this guy on my team." No doubt, it'll bring in major bucks into the city.
Hey, these emoticons are kind of neat!
Well, got to go to work.

Good evening everybody.
Matt .... Welcome. Feel free to tell more about Rogue Valley Model RR club as well as your own modeling. ... I know what you mean about jobs affecting time for a hobby. .... Northern CA is a very beautful area.
The Diner seems a bit quiet this evening. Must be everybody is too busy with their model railroads to get on the computer.
I was running my streetcars this evening. I have not done so for a while because each streetcar needed maintenance and the rails needed cleaning. Now the work has been accomplished with thanks to my model railroad friend, Gus, who worked on the streetcars.
Happy Model Railroading, everybody.

Good evening all,
Just wanted to throw a quick post out here. My name is Matt and I am just starting to get back into the model railroading hobby. I never lost interest, but it got put on hold for a few years because I was so pre-occuppied with my job. I have finally got settled back in far northern California where I grew up, and now with a regular M-F job with daylight hours. I'm starting to turn my attention back to the hobby I've always loved again. I've been a member of the Rogue Valley Model RR Club in Medford, Oregon for several years and they have been a large insipiration in my modeling. I'm glad to be back so I can participate again. I feel like since I've fallen behind a bit on all the advancements and products that have been made over the past few years, so I've been playing catch up! I hope to chat with you guys some more and browse the forums as well. Take care all!

Evenin' folks,
Chloe, I'll have the sirloin steak special, baked potato with sour cream and chives, and mixed vegetables tonight. A cup or three of decaf coffee would be good along with that. I get dessert a bit later.
yougottawantaHowmus - do not understand why your contractor installed insulation, wrap then window. Thats little off the way it is usally done. It is usually window, wrap along with special window wrap, then siding.
Ahhhh, I'm not following you... The insulation on the outside was what goes under the Siding which hasn't been put back up yet (and won't be for several more days). He added a vapor seal over the new sheathing. Then the half inch insulation was put on covering the entire wall. Then he cut out the window opening before they put in the new window. I checked online and found an article from This Old House and basically what the contractor did was exactly what was shown in the article right down to how to level and shim the window and then use expanding foam to fill all the spaces... I Dunno? Since the contractors Father has owned and operated a Glass and Window Sales and Installation company here locally for over 40 years and has an excellent reputation, plus he was helping install the new window, I guess I will trust that it was done correctly. After the excess foam is cut off he plans to add a sealing tape barrior to completely seal and waterproof the window. Again, not my area of expertise so I dunno... Oh and you can call me Ray........
I drove to Canandaigua today to deposit a little over $2,000 into our MLK Scholarship 501c3 account. I guess I can mow the lawn tomorrow as the guy across the street did his for the first time today... Looks like today will be a fantastic day again for making electricity and tomorrow should be decent as well. Should break last years record for the month!
I best get back to w*rk as I have more to do than day left... Catch you all later!

Hey guys,
Yesterday my dad complained about not having anything sweet to eat. So I went to Target today to buy Royal Pains season 6 anyway. I thought if I got my dvd than I would look around for anything sweet for a cheap reasonable price since I only had $25.00
The only thing I saw as brownie mix clearance for $1.02 so I got it. Also on the bright side I received a brand new state national park quarter for 2015.

Been doing yard work and only 2 hours kicked my caboose. Getting old sucks!
Seems Tod and Vince Stold my thunder on the Mopar Wing cars. On the Plymouth Super Bird, in NASC it was faster than the Daytona. Far as looks, well I did not love the looks but still would love to have one because of what it is.

yougottawantaUlrich - that was a nice looking car. How did it ride ?
Just like a Tiger tank - no power steering, no power brakes, stick shift on the steering column, not much of an acceleration, not much of a deceleration when you stepped on the brakes, but I loved it - it had a certain nobility to it
I always kept it in an immaculate state, inside out! Sold it for double what I had paid for it, as it had turned from just an old car into an vintage car during my ownership.
Packer Morning guys Been in a really foul mood the last few day. I really haven't felt like posting in here... If anyone's wondering, It had to do with the girl that I was seeing. I don't know if I can actually say what she did with the forum guidlines. Needless to say, I blocked all communications with her...

Cambus267 - keep us posted on health and move
JaBear - Amazing metal roofs. Would never had thought it possible, Here an asphalt shingle roof is about $90 per hundred sq. ft. Metal can hit $150 to $250 per hundred sq. ft !

Howmus - do not understand why your contractor installed insulation, wrap then window. Thats little off the way it is usally done. It is usually window, wrap along with special window wrap, then siding.
Ken - depends on if one is buying a house made between 1990 and 2013. Thise are the best years for the new house. Houses built after 2015 are dangerous ! The political crowd has gotten involved and done something VERY STUPID - They have made the new houses so tight in the name of energy efficency that they no longer "breath" people buying these new homes will shortlt be getting sick because their house is polluting/killing them. Very bad folks. Without getting to polical but the current bunch in office will be responsible for massive amounts of "folks" as he like to say getting very ill. Just plain STUPID.
Gotta stop. Think I may have damaged one of my wings and it is aching badly.

Looks like I'm getting that tiny little BR 98 steam loco after all. Hadn't thought about it in quite a while, but spotted the charge to my bank account the other day. It has been shipped and should be here shortly.
Been busy working on farm projects again. The husband of the couple who bought my last peacocks is now working for me twice a week, so the fence work is getting done. I just can't pound in T-posts with the shoulder troubles. Glad to have a stout worker who shows up and then actually "works". So hard to find someone with a good work ethic these days.
Healing thoughts to those in need.
Cheers! Rob
Good Afternoon, Folks!
Janie, a cup of coffee and a slice of that apple pie, please. Let´s hope it stays where it is supposed to!
I am feeling slightly better - the queasy feeling in my stomach shows up only randomly now. I am actually able to handle normal food now, unless it is too hot & spicy (which I, of course, like). My doc seems to be quite happy with the development, telling me, that, if things continue, heavier armament will not be deployed in this battle.
I spent quite a lot of time today exchanging emails with that southern German MRR friend, trying to develop a layout concept for him. His layout will have to be portable, so that´s quite a challenge! What I am suggesting to him is a multi-level layout, with the individual levels connected via helices left and right. The two levels than can be "hinged" between the helices. Let´s see what he thinks of this idea...
Vincent - cheer up! Splitting up hurts, but better early than too late. Don´t forget - the mother of your future children is already born!
Make it a good one!
Mister Beasly, IIRC, they came up with those in the later 60s as a bassis for a car to be used in Nascar. They had to produce so many of the cars before they could use it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Charger_Daytona
Ken, If I ever win a big lottery, I'd love to find an original Ford GT40 with the 427 engine, well that a truck, and a trailer (I don't think they are street legal). Of course if I couldn't find one, a 04-05 Ford GT would be a close 2nd (and would probably be street legal).
Anyways, the next few days are supposed to be nice. Figure I can wash and vacuum my car since it's rained a lot (like on/off for a month)
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Todd .... Good to see you. ..... You must be suffering from pack-rat-atitus .... (Like most of us).
Oh and Mr B, in regards to the spoilers on the Daytonas/ Super Birds, they actually were functional. The wing on the back however didn't work very well though it did work to a degree. The race version worked well, but the street version had to be raised to allow the trunk lid to open fully so it was actually out of the "sweet spot" as they say. If you were to see the two side by side you can see the difference is very apparent.

Zoe, I'll have my usual dark roast coffee and a couple sour cream glazed donuts this morning.
Sun is trying to shine at the moment.... The weather guessers are calling for partly for most of today, so we shall see what we shall see.
Jeez Ken! What are you paying per kWh for electricity out there? I am paying about 14¢ per kWh here and the highest tier where they have such a thing is about 35¢ I think. $500 at 15¢ per kWh would buy you 3333 kWh of electricity. Holy crap! You need to turn off some lights! Before I put in the Solar Panels my average month use was 570 kWh. At 12¢ per that would be $68.50...
Some math... A .5 hp electric motter at full constant draw would use about .5 kWh per hour. So if you run it 24 hours a day it should consume about 12 kWh a day. That translates into 360 kWh a month. Times 15¢ per it should cost about $43.20 a month to operate. The monster back up generator you want to get at that load would use maybe 5 gal per day (that would be only 500 w draw for 24 hours a day...). Gas engines are very inefficient when they are idling. So at the current price of gas in Illanoyzy that would be $13 a day or $390 a month to clean the pool! So yes the generator is obviously the best thing to get if you want to spend a lot of $$$. It will also drive your neighbors nuts all night long..... Duh! Use the grid! I have to think you had a ground short somewhere in the old 1hp filter to cost that much to operate. Maybe a bearing going bad or something. Drawing way more power than it should have.
I best get to w*rk! Catch you all later...
Brrrrr. Still in the 40s, with a brisk wind. Again, it's not a day for bike riding, but since it's hockey night I wouldn't be doing that anyway. Instead, I may take a drive to Home Depot for some 4-conductor telephone wire. When I measured the distance from the second set of phototransistors back to the crossing gates, I found my supply of wire was short. I hope they have the wire. I'm not sure they even install phone wire in houses anymore. Anybody know?
Yesterday, I spent an annoying hour and a half on the phone. I had to call the TurboTax people because the state tax download just wasn't working, and the insurance company still hadn't gotten their act together with premium deductions from my pension account. For both, I had to go through the endless phone menus with no applicable options. Eventually, the insurance company offered a $50 credit for each of 3 policies for my troubles, and TurboTax forgot to bill me the $40 for the extra state package, so I suppose it was worth it.
Ken, are all those rear spoilers functional, or are they merely "car art." As I recall, even at highway speed they have minimal effect. Racing, yes, but would you race such a classic work of art?
Flo, I'll have my usual gigante cup of coffee with boo coo cream, please.
Garry: That looks like a 308 (Magnum PI car). If so, those were one of the best designs ever. I think that's why I also like Lamborghinis because of the designs. Anyway, I don't see either one of those in my future.
Ken: speaking of designs, those Daytonas are very sleek looking. If I remember correctly, Dodge and Plymouth used Roadrunner bodies as the basis for the Daytonas and Super Birds. When I was a kid, I remember seeing Sterling Moss win the Grand Prix de Monaco on TV. It was my first introduction to the existence of Formula I. Wow, racing through the streets of town. How cool! I even laid out on paper a race course through my own home town with all of the twists and turms like Monaco. Great fun.

Ken, I have run a twin stack air compressor and a couple of circular saws on a 6500/5500 watt generator. My Canadian friends run a 1 hp air blower on the same size generator. I have also run a construction sump pump with at least a half horsepower motor with same size generator. The generator will burn through about 5 gallons of gasoline every 12 hours.
Flo, Beer Please
Had a faily long post going last night and then my fat finguers hit the wrong button!
Electrial Question. OK, I still need to get some kind of flitering going on in the swamp / in ground pool. Cannot afford the surprise of a $500.00 + power bill by using the old and seems to be not working 1 HP pool fliter. Plus I have not ran the pool fliter for 7 years, because of the cost.
I have been thinking about either a 1/4 HP or a 1/2 HP above ground sand filter just to keep the stink down. Not wanting to use it just clean it up some.
I saw this Gas Generator in a Harbor Freight flyer and was wondering?
http://www.harborfreight.com/engines-generators/gas-engine-generators/6500-peak5500-running-watts-13-hp-420cc-generator-epa-iii-69672.html
I have no idea how much electrical power that really is. Any chances it might run a 1/4 to 1/2 HP electric motor?
Dream Car? Hum, when I the win Mega Millions I be hard torn to what the first car would be. It would be between the following.
1 1969 Dodge Daytona
2 427 AC Corba
I have ridden or drove both. 427 AC Corba was when I was 12 years old. My dad's friend raced a real A/C Cobra. I got to ride around IRP with Carol and remember being slamed back, forward, left, forward, right and back again! I wish I was just older, like 20 something.
Ahh, 1969 Dodge Daytona. I have worked on 3 and drove 2 of them. Way slower than the A/C and stock no faster than a stock 69 Charger. But I love the look. That is a good sigh I will add. Looks to me it is going 150 MPH sitting still.
AC will kick the Daytona butt in every way. But, I am a Mopar Guy at heart so it would be hard to pick unless I win say $80,000,000.00 then I have both! And then some more!
Couple of the Dodge Daytona I was worked on.

My old Body Shop Charger in the left background is a real Hemi Charger I did with only 32,000 miles on it. Mine when I was making Daytona clone. But at last, I got tired of wating on repop parts. Sold what I had and added a 6-71 blower! Later, Ken

Okay. One Ferrari coming up.
My model railroad friend, Bill from Paducah, has one. He sometimes visits with his red car to see the three layouts here at the lake.. ..... Left to right; Bill, Me, Dan, Gus. ... This is an older photo, and I lost a bit of weight since then.
Good Afternoon!
A dull day here as well. At least the ra*n stopped!
I did not catch much sleep last night - my usual insomnia! When I went for a short nap after lunch, the bloke who´s taking care of the premises here started to mow the weeds lawn. It had grown to a considerable height during the past btwo weeks and the mower could hardly cope with it. That noise took care of my attempted sleep! I finally got up and decided to run a train over my make-shift layout, which I thoroughly enjoyed! My stomach seems to relax a little now - I was able to eat something without it showing up again after 10 minutes.
Kato is releasing an addition to the famous RhB Glacier Express train into the market these days It´ll be the new RhB EMU´s named "Allegra". Althhough they are actually narrow gauge trains, they´ll run on regular N scale track, but can be re-gauged to the correct 6.5mm track. A friend of mine will be starting a layout, using Rokuhan Z scale track. I volunteered to develop the layout idea for him, which will keep me busy in the next days. It´ll be closely based on the actuall track plan of either the Ospizio Bernina station or the Alp Grüm station.
Ospizio Bernina (and Allegra):
Alp Grüm:
Enjoy!
Zoe, just a cup of marrakesh Express dark roast coffee (and make another pot please) and a couple glazed sour cream doughnuts for dunking please.
Barry is correct about today so far. Dark and gloomy and dull here in the Finger Lakes this morning. I need 58 kWh of electricity in the next 4 days to equal what I got in April last year. Luckily 3 of the 4 days will have some sun that should push the total over the line. Today will be around 10 to 12 kWh most likely. I've gotten so I can guess pretty acurately.
Already done a couple hours work sitting here at the computer this morning. I will be very glad when the Convention is over! Still have what appears to be a couple months worth of stuff to do in the next couple weeks to get ready for it....
MisterBeasleyNicotine is definitely a product of the Dark Side.
Mr. Beasley, you are quite right.... Reminds me of way back early in my career when I used to smoke pipe and cigars... We could smoke in the teachers room back them. One of the 5th. grade teachers who had a really nasty attitude (her father was a local MD and her busy body Mother got herself elected to the School Board so she could screw everything up whenever possible) used to light up s soon as she finished lunch much to the consternation of the rest of us. She would often sit right across from me (letting me know why Music Class was a complete waste of time except to give her a break) and blow the smoke in my face. One day I took out a cigar, and in spite of her threats lit up and blew the cigar smoke right at her face! She started swearing and grabbed her stuff and left the teachers's room whereupon I put the cigar out. I got a standing ovation from all the other teachers! The idiot 5th. grade female dog stopped lighting up after that as every time she pulled out a cigarette I pulled out a cigar!!! Hope the dental surgery goes well for you!
Best get myself back to w*rk!
