Well

I stepped putside to go get the mail. STEPPED BACK IN real quick-like. at 58F it was a Little too chilly for just a T-shirt. I needed a jacket. The road curves around toward us, but where it is a straight "T" off the main road is a "hallway" or "tunnel" where the air GETS COLD when travelling through there, and cuts right through you. Even in winter, with a heavy t-shirt, a fuzzy micro-fleece shirt {today's answer to quilted flanels},  a woolen scarf over the chest and my heavy winter coat {along with heavy gloves, basball cap and the jacket's hood pulled over} is NOT ENOUGH to deter the wind form cutting you in half. Oh, can't wait!

MOH is already concerned about buttoning down the house for winter. Its a little early I say, but maybe not if they have snow in CA to the N, and we are supposed to get colder temps in the N Mid-WeSt already. Usually the back A/C comes out around the first/mid of Dec. maybe this year it comes out earlier. The other one is wrapped and tied/taped together. I need to get the furnace serviced and the kitchen drain cleared away. There may be lots of dripping water in our future. Of course in FEb, I will WISH for the 58F! This summer went by so fast, and never seemed like it, here in the NE was much cooler than usual. I hope mild weather stays til mid-November.

We each have a Hook of "commonly used/rotating" garments to hang up on so we don't have to go digging inthe closet. I changed out all my Hawaiian shirts and put up three dress casual short sleeves and 3 dress casual long sleeves. Its after Labor day, no longer need to wear the florals! I noticced today doing the laundry MOH has changed out to a longer sleeve temporary wardrobe too. Then the temp. wardrobes get rotated too to have variety during any season. UGH!

With my shoulders as they are, I cannot any longer reach behind nad pull off a sleve of a long sleeve shirt or coat without great pain, so I will have to suffer and adjust to pre-pulling the sleeve off, and slinging it around the back and hope the other hand catches it to pull off a coat.

Perhaps when the MRI gives the orthopedist a direction in which to go to remove the calcium deposits and we get that done, I will be able once again to reach behind me and pull off long sleeves!

well, another load of laundry is done, and I am alone for dinner tonight as MOH is wiht a client for dinner tonight.

Balanced th budget again, and adjusted next month's, and I am well pleased with how it comes out, unless barring any unforseen medical bills popping up {which there will be for me some} we are on a good track FINALLY for once!

A local chain is having a sale on everythign in the store, and that includes the bedding, which we DO need a new mattress, i said we should just wait as if we can stay onthe path I have for the budget-which allows for SOME contingencies- and even for the repairs upcoming on the Kia, we will be better off in the spring and I'd feel better if we 'slept on it" until then. I know, I know, bad pun.

That about it.

Only 13 more days after today to get me a Birthing-day present! I am forewarning you! I wil now be planted in the "fifty-somethings"...I know, young to some of you and old to others! But, "fifty is the new thirty"...so really I am only still 30-something. Yeah and my body says "85".

have fun and a good wekend iff'en I don't stop in.

I will NEVER FORGET a muslim man who was in that crowded resturant who when he saw the plane hit the tower he started to celebrate. I have never wanted to do physical harm to anyone but that day I wanted to hit that guy and pummel him into the ground. I am still angry at my self for not beating him up. I still want to hit him.

That guy can consider himself lucky. I WOULD HAVE split the buildings fondation with HIS HEAD! Back then I was in good enough shape to do it.

He is probably SO LUCKY that many others in the "crowded restaurant" YGW claims it was didn't want to do the same thing, and followed a different religious leaning,

Had someone started it, I might have followed suit myself, like you I was in better shape back then.

Unfortunately, they are amongst us, and some of them actually VOTE here on this territory!

We'd best be careful, a patriotic post is fine, but a religious-hating or other people hating-crime agreements could turn ugly here and get some of us banned!

Oh, and Jeffrey, and others, thanks for your service!

Yesterday we had intense thunderstorms and heavy rains. I also got popped on the head by a Bachmann GP7 (14.6 ounces, Digitrax DCC) that fell off my display rack. Today is a carbon copy! EXCEPT! Today I got walloped by an Athearn remotored AHM C628. (14.8 ounces, Digitrax DCC).

Heck even out of shape I would have knocked him on his prayer rug! Then roll him up in it and dug a deep hole!

Been a busy day, I left at 11:30 AM and did not get home till 3:30 PM. Did get the back grass cut and cleaned the BBQ grill. Just got done cooking and boy it looked and smells great! I all most took a picture of it!

Just called Second Wind the store that sells used Exercises Equment and they do have some used weight plates! Big Smile Boy I hope they have some York Plates! Yes

Jeffery I must have missed something, how did you get hit in the head with a train engine anyway?

Apparently you missed a BIG somthing! In both cases, close lightning strikes knocked the locos off my display rack. Yesterday I hit on the right arm by a GP7 while another GP7 hit me on the head. Then today an Athearn remotored AHM C628 struck me on the head.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a cup of hot chocolate....  Yep, that time of year already!  Currently 45°F outside, Huh?  Yes that is correct, currently 45°F here in the Finger Lakes.  Won't get much colder tonighht, but will stay in the 40's all night and only get up into the 50's tomorrow.  I may turn on the heat to 65° before I go to bed tonight.  I like to do winter camping, but not inside the house....

Jeffery I must have missed something, how did you get hit in the head with a train engine anyway?

I heard Jeffrey was over on the wrong side of the tracks and.....  What's that?  Oh!  it was a model locomotive that hit him, I thought he broke one of the 12" to the foot ones....  Nevermind.        Well I still see him posting in that place over there across the tracks every now and then when I walk by...  What am I doing over there?  Oh....  Uh.... nothing, really!

I found out tonight while working on the layout that there is no way a straight bridge over the tracks will allow the tracks to meet up without a very bad S curve on the line....  I had been afraid of that.  Just means I will have to build a curved bridge instead of doing what I had planned on doing.

My son stopped by and borrowed my little trailer to get the plywood he was going to get a year ago when he borrowed the trailer the last time.  I told him he has to get it back and help me take it over for NYS inspection mext week!  Time will tell!  I gave him a bunch of green peppers from the garden, a zucchini squash, and half the eggplant lazagna I made a couple days ago.  They got enough for the 3 of them to have it for supper tonight.  I had half of what was left for my dinner.

Still have a couple things to get done before I head to bed tonight so I best get moving.  Prayers for all in need!

Hey Sarah, a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows. Thanks.

Jeffery it seems that we got heavy thunderstorms today. But the weather here called for clear skies in Tucson. It's a very intense rain storm loud enough to set car alarms off.

I been sick the past four days but I continue to work and acting acting that everything is normal. Tomorrow is a new day pulling weeds since they will be easy to pull out. Well good night diners let's see if I'll post an update later.

Good morning. It's 62° with 100% humidity. The high will be 78° with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms.

No sign-off post last night. Sorry about that. I was busy fixing the C628. Hitting my head was a bit more than the motor could take and it broke loose from it's mounting. I had to mix some epoxy and secure it back in place and put the drive shafts back in place. Then I moved the heavier locos to the BACK of the display rack. Athearn F units and Atlas FP7's  mostly.

No plans for today.

Good Afternoon!

I must have been caught in a wrestling match with a 300 lbs. gorilla last night - my entire body is aching and I can hardly move without pain. As they say, when you are ver 40 and you wake up in the morning without any pain, you´re dead Laugh

I won´t be doing much for the rest of the day, maybe watching some steam videos on the tube. Got my corner clamp yesterday and I am itching to give it a try...

Jeff - you are certainly the only person I know who got struck by an engine three times and survived it without major damages. The lightning must have really been close by!

Have a happy one!

You won't believe how close! There are two trees that're going to need to be cut down within a years time. Both are within ten feet of my trailer.

Mornin' everyone....  Well close to morning I guess.

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes (while the buleberries are still in season up here in the North), some reasl NYS Maple Syrup, a nice sausage patty, and lots and lots of dark roast coffee for my R&GV RR mug.  Thank you Ma'am.

Woke up this morning and the furnace was running.........  Currently 49°F outside with the day's high set at 62°F.  Dark, cloudy, and raining here in the Finger Lakes Region as well.  Probably making enough electricity right now to operate the 15w CFL on the shelf next to me.  Yep, that dark here.

Jeffrey, get those trees taken out ASAP!  I don't think your home could take another direct hit from a pine tree!  Glad ro see your head is harder than those HO locomotives....  You don't need any more trips to the horsespittle than you have already!

I have a lot of little items to tackle today.  Need to make a run to the grocery store for several items I didn't put on the list for last time, update my email list for the NMRA Division Membership, get an email out to them that the lastest issue of the newsletter is online, pack up the Region Laptop to take with me tomorrow to the museum hoping the guy who it gets passed onto is working on the trolley tomorrow.  Get a bit more done on the layout, send out a couple requests to division members to see if they can open up their layouts for the October Fall Meet for us, and several other items....

Best get myself moving.  Lots to do as always around here.

Hey Jeffrey, I hope you cna get them down before they damage you.

We live on the edge of a forrest, currently beign cleaned out by the new owners...it was landlocked, so the plumbers who live down the road and have their trailer on their own property bordering it bought it. But, I digress, we once paid a tree man a couple hundred dollars to take down some tress making MOH nervous, and then got the park to pay to have more removed. I think it may be time for us  to have more removed. If any tree back there falls, it will squash the Master BR and the bath! If it happens while we are in bed, we may be stuck! Or worse!

Jeffrey, Is there enough left in the house fund to pay a tree jockey to take them down? Or can the Owner to whom you pay rent pay for them to be removed?

Cool gray overcast day here. cooler, grayer, overcast day tomorrow. They claimed "partly sunny today", and claim "partly sunny tomorrow"...where is this "partly sunny" they speak of? I do hope this is not the start of the "perpetual gray cloud" settling in for the next 6 or so months!

SOmehow I have a kink inmy back left side, like getting kicked in the kidneys. I think form gettting on/off the stupid table for the MRI of my shoulder, I think I twisted wrong, those things are not wasy to get on/off of if you have problems!

well, dinner is yet undecided. I could use the veal chunks in sauce over noodles, or what have you...MOH is sleeping now so I don't know desires for dinner there. I have sausage to saute for the "make in the crock pot lasagna sauce packet". dunno, seems like work and takes 4-8 hours anyway. getting late now.

I guess that aobut ti. wasn't going to post, but Jeffrey made me do it {LOL}

The smaller of the two, say about fifty feet tall is already down and gone. One of the neighbors decided he needs fire wood for the coming winter and came over with his chain saw. A friend of his can climb trees faster than a paranoid squirrel and he brought him along. The friend climbed three-quarters of the way up the tree, tied a rope to it and slid back down. The reason for the rope? The wind was blowing to the east and we wanted the tree to fall to the west. So I measured out sixty feet, tied the rope to the trailer ball of the truck then took up the slack then tensed it up. The neighbor made his cut on the east side of the tree and when it started falling I punched the gas and that was that. It took them about an hour and a half to cut the tree up and another hour to get it out of my yard. I told him he's more then welcome to the second one. He says he knows somebody.

Good evening. Compared to the last two days it's been dry and quiet. It's 70° with 72% humidity. Cloudy.

The lightning strikes of the last two days blasted two trees in my yard, both less than ten feet from my trailer. One is already felled and gone thanks to one of the neighbors. I look for the other one to be gone within the coming week.

That's it for today. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a refill for my decaf please....

I got a few things done today....  Drove over to the Menonite farm stand near Phelps, NY to get a couple ears of corn.  Gotta enjoy it while it is still in season you know.  Canned isn't nearly as good and frozen... Blech!  Got back to Geneva to find that the farmer who has a stand for a couple months during the summer had a big stack of fresh corn.  That stand is right around the corner from me.  I went to the grocery store and picked up a few items, filled the PiP with fossilized Dinosuar Dung and came home.  The tank took exactly 7 gallons of the stuff and I had driven 595 miles on that tank.  Only got 85mpg.  Not bad.  Sun finally came out for a while this afternoon.  Felt good!

Did a bit more on the layout this afternoon.  I will have to build a bridge with a curve and continue the 26 to 28" radius over the bridge to get everything lined up the way it should with the other end of the return loop...  Can be done, just a bit more of a challenge.  This bridge will also be a girder bridge, but will be a through type.  I will be doing some other stuff on the part that is done before I turn my full attention to building another bridge.  Here is the bridge abutment where it goes over the track in the cut:

Jeffrey, glad somebody took down and can use the wood from the tree.  It also sounds like the other one will be coming down shortly.  Good!

Time to call it a night.  I will be working train crew tomorrow out at the museum.  Prayers for all in need!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo Beer Pleases.

Work Stunk Be side being a bad sales day, I had a late customer yet! Bang Head  While they bought, they bought poop and I did not make anything extra besides the 1/2 hour over time. Well, that is $6.50 so better than nothing I guess. Made it to the sporting good store that had used weight plates. As luck will have it they only had one 1.25 pound plate and I only need one! Yes All so bought two 2.5 Lb, two 5 Lb, and two 10 Lb plates. They only had one used curling bar and it used the spin on ends, I hate that type. They had a new bar with the ends I like, but I did not like the krunkling on the bar, I perfer a smooth bar plus it was $38.00 so that was over my budget.

I bet after I left the people that worked there where wondering why I was buy exercises equment!Whistling Bet they don't get to many people as big as me buying stuff from them! Laugh

Working out. Had a good workout tonight and was real happy with the bench press. I will be upping the max weight next time I bench.

I have started taking a Amino Acid Supplment called L-Arginine. Helps with blood circulation, lowers blood pressure and helps with muscle growth.

Mr B or Ulrich Can one of you post a photo of a corner clamp? I have never heard of one and I could sure use one the next time I build.

Shooting Pain In The Right Foot. It started around 7:45 PM and I have had it now for all most three hours. Pain is in the top of the right foot and comes between every 15 seconds to 45 seconds some times a little longer. On a scale of pain it ranges from a 3 to a 5 out of 10. Seems to stop when I have full weight on it? Sure going to make it hard to sleep tonight if it keeps going!

 See you all Sunday.

Hello folks.  I'm not a regular here, but just thought I'd drop by for a late night black decaf & slice of pie before I turn in.  Peach if you've got it; otherwise apple.   Just wanted to let you guys know tomorrow Sept. 14 is Alex Warshal's birthday.  I have spies who told me.  Might be nice to wish him a happy one.

Trees coming down are not very reassuring, Jeff.  Glad to know there was no serious damage & somebody will get good use of the wood.

I'm off to bed as soon as I finish off the pie.  G'nite all.

Howdy ...

Tom ACY... Nice of you to visit the diner.

Ray ... It's good to see your layout progress.

Really nice weather today, but I was inside anyhow working on the model railroad.   I'm  installing grab irons and details on Walthers passenger cars. It is tedius work, and I have several more to go. Also, my pair of Northern Pacific RS3's now are DCC equipped.

Both my BIL in MI and my SIL in TN are still dealing with heart problems. BIL still has complications following his recent quadruple bi-pass surgery.  SIL who had a heart attack a few weeks ago, went back in the hospital a few days ago and had more heart surery. Eventually, they should be okay, but the family is worried.

I'm still happy I saw all six grandkids in our recent trip to OH and MI.

Happy Model Railroading .

Good Morning!

Janie, it´s Sunday, so I´ll go for my healthy and wholesome Sunday breakfast! You know, all these high carb, low fibre, high cholesterol things MOH would not want to see me eat! Make that a stack of pancakes with maple syrup, scrambled eggs, bacon, buttered toast and jams, a tall glass of OJ (just to have something healthy) and coffee in an IV bag, please!

I am starting to pack up my On30 layout to be ready for the move. It´ll take another month until thy chap who bought it will come and pick it up (and, of course, lay out the cash), but I need to do something. No other plans for the day, other than toying around with some new ideas for a kind of display layout. Inspired by John de Frayissinet´s Cliffhanger layout (see the layout topics section), there is a layout idea in my head, which I would name "The Abyss". It could be based on the Rockwood section on the Durango & Silverton RR.

I doubt that I have sufficient room for it, though.

Alex W. - a big Happy B-Day to you!

Have a happy day!

Ken: Don't take that pain lightly! I had the exact same type of pain in my right foot when my Charcot Foot problems began about ten years ago. That's from your arch collapsing. It gets worse from there. In it's initial stages it can very easily be misdiagnosed as celulitis. By the time the misdiagnosis is discovered it'll be too late. The damage will have been done.

Howdy.

Ulrich.... Somewhere in my boxes of stuff is a 35 mm slide I took that looks just like the photo you posted. I took it in the 1960's and then the D&RGW still owned and operated the Durango and Silverton narrow guage line. I recall when the railroad shops built some steel coaches for the passenger train which were constructed to look just like the original wood coaches.

I hope everybody is having a happy Sunday!

Cheers !

Good morning, all.

My corner clamp looks like this:

It works either on an outside corner at the end of my benchwork, or on an inside corner where I'm running a rafter from side to side.  I use a plug-in drill and a cordless screwdriver so I don't have to switch bits, and I can whip through construction very quickly.

Looks like a beautiful day out.  We had clouds and then rain yesterday, but it's cleared out nicely.  Really seems like fall.  The bridge superstructure is almost done but I need a bit more thin wire for the supports.  I only bought one piece, and I should have gotten 2.  On the other hand, it's an excuse to go up to the hardware store, which I enjoy almost as much as a trip to the LHS.  The hardware store has free popcorn on weekends.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast Buffet please. Thanks.

WHEW! What a week, what a week. Rained Wednesday and I waved at Noah and the family as they floated by. Seemed like nice folks…we got 4+ inches in 3 hours in the morning and a total of 5½ for the day. It stopped about oh noon I guess. Yah, almost 6 inches in just the morning. Basements flooded all over. Luckily our floor drain is not hooked to the storm sewer system so we had no issues there. But I tell you what, by 9;30 the sump pump wasn’t shutting off and the water was coming in faster than the pump could pump it out to the tune of about an inch every 15 to 20 minutes. I left when the water was about 2 inches from the top of the pit and went to the elevator for about an hour. I said I couldn’t just sit there and watch the thing go overLaugh. Nothing I could do though. Luckily when I returned, the water was down and the floor was dry. Never came out. I call it a miracle we didn’t floodAngel.

Congrats on another great nephew Jeffery!!

Speaking of meat, the club type store named after a guy with the same name as our National UncleWhistling has just about the best around here so when Brenda went to get some supplies for the elevator, she picked up some ribeyes for dinner today. I’ll be grilling those up with some taters of course. (shakes head) gotta get some new ones because in our busy-ness we haven’t been able to eat at home much and the last couple got forgotten and started to rot in the potato bin so NOW we have those pesky sewer/drain flylets all over the placeGrumpy. Drives me nuts. They are the hardest things to get rid of without resorting to chemical warefare which I don’t like to do in the house. May be why Mom always kept hers in the garageHmm. I have one of those bug zapping tennis rackets that I bought for the static grass thing you can build with one but it’s getting more use as a bug zapper as of lateCool. I’ll have to buy another for the projectLaugh! And then a friend of mine, the girl you often hear me speak of. Not the Vietnamese one, the other. The daughter of a…well it doesn’t matter. Anyway she said last night at w*rk what she was making for supper today and she would bring me a plate up to the restaurant tonight about 8. I kinda doubt she will though. She likes to get me all built up then jerk the rug out from under me. Claims it keeps me "in line"Laugh. She says it seems the thing to do since customers who don’t know us often think we are married. She gets a kick out of it. I say I’m flattered considering she’s 20 years younger than meStick out tongue. Brenda…., doesn’t find it so funnyGrumpy. But with her you never know. I just may have a late snackDinner.

I did get a little railroad time and w*rked on the bridge I’ve been doing while on sump pump watch WednesdayYeah. Not looking near as good as Ray’s thoughSigh. Been watching his closeYes. Trying to do the same things, just not working out so goodBang Head. Oh well. I’ll drive on and come back later when my skills improve, tear it out and do better next time. It’s not near as expensive to do that to a model as it is the real thing.Laugh

Welp, bout time to get movin. Gotta mow the yard again and some other odds and ends.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning. It's 61° with 100% humidity. The high will be 82° and cloudy.

Not much happening here. I've been watching some TV programs that I had recorded on the DVR. Next I'll be starting the //e and I may play a game or two later. Other than that I have no plans.

Todd, your Battle of the Bugs reminded me of something.  We've long had problems with those little moths that like grain, pasta, birdseed, whatever.  They typically find a space to make their nests up in the corners of the ceiling.  Last year, Penny found the solution.  Someone makes a little triangular tent thing out of cardboard that's got stickum and some sort of attractant   We put these in the pantry and presto, no more moths.  They are not expensive, and because the stickum is only inside the "tent," they don't get on your fingers if you touch them.  Your bugs may like them, too, or perhaps they make a different version for that species.

"Sticky stuff" with some sort of bait seems to work on many creatures!

We knew we had mice, and they were getting brave by coming out at day time and sitting up to look at us. The old tired spring loaded traps were not catching any.

SO I bought the "sticky types", skeptically, and some "fresh mouse bait' in the "cheese" variety as our peanut butter trick no longer worked.

To this date we have caught 15 mice! Twice we had a "double header"...that is TWO mice on one sticky pad!

Now, the spots where they WERE coming in we stuffed some time ago with steel wool, which we were told would drive tehm away. Well, I foudn out they chewed a new hole into the kitchen floor behind the stove NEAR to where they used to get in by the plumbing in the Kitchen sink! ANd the old steel wool? welll, they just dug it out of there anyway!

We cannot spray foam in that plumbing area as we have been warned by a plumber it willl allow the pipes to freeze, and then won't get hot air to the pipe to unfreeze. WE DOn'T need that! OR the mice!

SInce they are getting smaller and smaller in size, I think we are getting the "grandkids' of the old ones.

One clue though: Use double sided tape on the back of the sticky traps as the mouse, half on and half off..will push it/pull it  off somewhere you can't get to it and STINK as they die!

Its been 3 weeks and we only caught just one and haven't seen any more running around, so we think we got them all?????

Oh, and the cat? He wasn't fast enough to catch any, but they sure bothered him!

Whistling

Good Sabbath Morning Gang,

Sure hope you are all having a fine week-end. This is a work week-end for me. I have 4:00 hours to put in this afternoon and then off for a couple of days.

Chloe, when time permits, you could rustle me up some grub.  Surprize me this morning, but make sure it includes some Hot Chocolate as it is chilly out.

Planning on a trip to Billings starting this Friday. I have by booking off one shift and trading another get a week off. We are really looking forward to that as long as my wife can get a handle on the cold and allergies that have beset her.  BTW.  I think it was Brunton, who has his layout based out of Laurel , Montana.  That is the community thaat my Son has just bought his home in. About 10 miles west of Billings.

JEFF,  Glad to hear when the sky fell that it only got chicken little.  Glad to hear those old trees are getting cleaned out, just hope you don't loose to much shade.

RAY, The prognosis for a repair is not great on my throat and it involves extensive, invasive surgery, being cut from the throat to the navel, breaking the ribs open, moving a bunch of organs " and that is not music" then pulling my stomach up and attaching it to the throat.  Right now at my age I am not really considering that. But, might just look elsewhere for an option.  Mayo maybe?

ULRICH,  I sent you a PM.  I am sad to hear of the Keg Harbor being taken down. It really had a great look to it.

Birthday wishes go out to Mr. W.   Cake

Prayers go out to all in need, especially GARRY'S SIL and MIL..  BTW. Garry that was a great pix you took of the two Blue Angels. Against the clouds and over the lake it was a well put together shot.

Galaxy,  Good to see you still checking in occasionally.  Hope you get feeling better.  Light a candle. I think all the ones that you lit for me and the Prayers and healing thoughts from others here sure made a difference to my healing. And I am grateful to all of you.

Speaking of that, I guess it is time to feed the tube, so I had better get that done, then a S---, shave and shower and off to work.

Have a great one and keep smiling Ya All.

Johnboy out..............................for now.   Smile, Wink & Grin
