gonna be a "hot one" here today, comparatively...83*F.
Comparatively becasue I don't think we got over 70 last week at all!
Been to the CU, paid extra on the loan to reduce the length, and to the PO to mail out R.R.R. CERt. mail That costs $6 per envelope now!!! WOW!

Finally got my vest to go with the kilt outfit, in the proper size. and the proper belt. Now need a shirt, but ill do with a matching color tshirt, and sweat it out! That is coming up a week form Friday!
BAsed on his GENERAOUS OFFER in the thread entitled "Need to share rather large model railroad in Maryland"
We are going to try to visit Howard Zane's MRR while down south PA..he is about 1.5 hours away form there, and we think we can squeeze it in, if not this trip, maybe later in the summer if we got to the B&O museum IF he still so generous!
we will see!

I think I will need new glasses soon.

Good morning! Lovely day here - low 60s right now, going to 80. But, it's relatively dry air, so we've got warm comfortable days and cool nights. To me, that's ideal summer weather.
I did get my passenger cars all back in service on the cloudy, drizzly Saturday, but I've got to work on a the interior lights on two of them. One went out entirely, and the other is flickering. For now, though, I'm happy just to run them all around. Sunday I had a couple of bad boards on the deck to replace. While at Home Depot, I picked up the lumber for Phase 3A of layout expansion. Time marches on.

Regarding Ulrich:
Guys!:
I, too, hope he is well!
But:
I think in order to save any kind of peace, he really DOES have to take down the layout! HE Said so here when it first happened! No matter how we all encourage him to 'fight it out", those of us with spouses know, often we HAVE to do something we abhorre and detest just to make some semblance of peace in daily life! That part about a "woman scorned" is TRUE of most spouses! {and we all know how stubborn we can be, but who has to give in most often? WE do!}.
Remember WAAAAAYYYY back when he started it he said here on the forum "I will really have to negotiate with Petra to get the space in the spare room I need for the layout that she will approve of..." SO, it was a major issue BEFORE he even started to build!
SO, he also said somewhere on here in his last post something about that he wouldn't be visiting too much here now, as it reminds him to painfully of what he is missing!
So while we are concerned he may be hospitallized, we can more safely assume he's just got us on "ignore" for a while!
We can be supportive, but must remain "out of the loop" on this one, I think!
Evenin' folks!

Been a long and busy Fathers Day here in these parts. Spent most of the day doing car host detail on the train. I have an almost permanent assingment to the old Erie Caboose C-254 these days. Had a good crowd for Fathers Day about 200 people came to the museums for the day. We ended one run short of our normal day's work and so tied up a few minutes early. On our last trip South, since we were deadheading, I locked all the wndows, oput everything back in place, and had already locked up the caboose before we coupled onto the old RS-1 in the yadr to keep everything tied down un til next Thursday. I stayed on board just long enough to ste the hand brakes before the 80- Tonner was moved to the next track for the week. i was off train, signed out, and on the road by 5PM. Decided I would go directly out to my son's house in Watherloo. Glad I did. They seemed to be promoting that I should stop by as soon as I got back in town and since it was before 6PM when I got home, I went over without stopping at my house. It seemed they had a Lobster dinner waiting for me to arrive. Nice!!! It was good to sit and unwind for a while too. Later my son hooked onto my little trailer to bring it and a table they borrowed several months ago back over to my house. He is picking up his new (to him) boat tomorrow. I also found him a 2" ball for his drawbar and reciever in his wife's car.
I too am now starting to worry about Ulrich..... Been a few days and no word from him. Do hope all is well!
I best be heading out to bed soon. I am exhausted....
Prayers for all in need, and a Happy Father's Day to all Fathers out there!

We'll get there sooner or later!
This just about wraps up another week. So is everyone ready to start the new one. This past week has had a couple of highs, & a couple of lows. Nothing major, just some minor disappointments. Thursday evening I attended a workshop for the ICloud on my IPhone. This one wasn't as good as the 1st workshop I attended. It wasn't a total bust, but I didn't get a lot of the information I was hoping for. I did pick up some things which might point me in the right direction, We will see.
Did get in 3 hours of railfanning on Saturday. Caught a total of 10 trains during that time. 3 intermodals, 5 mixed freights, 1 coal train, & 1 train of 70 empty gons. I've seen that string of empty gondolas a couple of times now, but haven't been able to find out anything about it yet. Like where does it originate, or where does it terminate. Had a couple of meets take place right in front of us. In fact, at one point we had trains on all 3 tracks. That's always kind of neat to watch.
This afternoon we went to the Civic Light Opera for a performance of "Legally Blond". Sorry to say it was not that good. A lot of talented performers, but they really didn't have much to work with. No music that you would want to whistle on the way home, & if you have seen the movie, not much of a story either. At least in my opinion. We did however, have an excellent dinner on the way home at a local Italian retaurant. So all was not lost.
Tomorrow we will start by stopping for breakfast, then grocery shopping and another full day of errands. I don't understand how just 2 people can have all these places to go every week. I think my wife spends the other 6 days dreaming up places to go on the 7th one.
Todd - Really enjoyed your story about the grand daughter & the dog.
Here's hoping you all have a great week, & stay safe...

Worked on two locos this morning. My Athearn SW1500 KCS 4331 needed a sideframe reattached as well as a ditch light put back in place. And an Atlas FP7 that has an Atlas/Athearn hybrid drive. Athearn BB motor and shafts, Atlas trucks. Just a cleaning and inspection.Computer-wise I copied all my SDFloppy II SD cards onto a DVD in 'Live File' format so I go back and change it later. It's labeled as 'SD Card Backup' and is stored away in one of the floppy disk storage boxes.

Happy Fathers Day to all you Dads!
Todd ... Enjoy your granddaughter's visit with you!
Ulrich ... I suspect we might not hear much from you if at all for a while as you focus on other priorities. Please know we care for you. (and Petra, too!)
Today and tomorrow are busy days. We leave for southern CA Tuesday for a week. The wedding is Friday in Orange County. Before then is family stuff. After then Shelley and I will relax in San Diego. Actually, She will pick out stuff she likes to do, and I'll act like I'm interested in that stuff. Then, she'll tag along as we do stuff I pick out and act like she is interested. We do have fun even if bored with the other's stuff.
Don't worry if you don't hear from me.
Happy Model Railroading.

Good morning. It's 73° with 100% humidity. The high will be 90° with some clouds and a small chance of rain. with Today I'll be working on another loco. Haven't chosen it yet. I'll also watch some movies and play some 80's vintage computer games. I have nothing else planned but something will probably come up.

Ulrich!
First of all, if this is the first time in 30 years that you have had words then I would say the two of you have done pretty well. However, you are obviously going through a very tough time.
If I can ask a somewhat personal question, is this normal behaviour for Petra or is it unusual? If it is totally out of character then I would suggest a trip to the doctor for her. There are many things that can trigger abnormal behaviour. Things as simple as a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) can cause all sorts of mental upset. I am not a doctor, but my wife is the Administrator for a Long Term Care residence (caring for seniors who need significant assistance) and UTIs are a regular source of upset. I am NOT suggesting that Petra is ready for Long Term Care - far from it, but her behaviour may be being influenced by things beyond her control. Its worth looking into. Unfortunately if there is a UTI it can also cause the person to deny there is a problem, so getting her to a doctor may take some convincing.
Sorry if this is too personal, but I also suffer from severe depression. Removing my model railroad stuff would bring on some pretty unpleasant results as I suspect it might for you.
I wish you and Petra all the best. Hang in there!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Hey JOHNBOY- You maybe down ,but you darn sure ain't out.
Wish a pleasant FATHERS DAY to all

Good evening. Didn't do much today. Nurse didn't show up until after noon so wound vac dressing got changed about 1:45. Changed out a coupler on an FP7. Did a little work on a disk drive. Watched a few movies. That's it.Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
cudaken Ulrich Front Boy I hope he got to keep the layout! It would be a real shame for him not to have anything to look forward to! One of the reasons we here at the dinner helped him to get back into the hobby a few years back!Person needs a reason to get out of bed other than laying on the couch and watching TV! Sigh
Evening Dinners!
Flo, pleases.
Work Front That cover that!

PackerJeff, it's been a while since I've messed with any of the Atlas/Roco stuff. Was it the worm cover that broke? If I recall that stuff was the "ungluable" engineering plastics, I wonder hoe well JB weld will hold up.
Afternoon guys
Went to the train club this morning, and put my GP9 back. I brought it home to change the speaker in it because it was barely audible. I guess having the front of speaker aiming through the fans doesn't work as well on a Phase 3 GP9 as it does on a GP7. I had took a air grinder and a dremel (to finish after the grinder) to the weight to get the new speaker to fit. Even though the older speaker was larger, the new one sounds a lot better. I guess that's what having a speaker enclosure does.
As for weight lost when grinding, it only lost about a quarter of an ounce. I don't notice a difference in pulling power though. I guess it helped the weight balance some, or a quarter ounce isn't much.
Today is my mother's birthday as well as flag day, so i'm not going to work outside cause me and the rest of my family will probably be taking her to dinner soon.
I did go to Ace Hardware and buy a drill bit to make horn stands. But I think it fell out of my pocket somewhere
Ulrich, that sucks, but I am curious has this issue came up before?

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Yes, as RAY said, cool 54F here, damp like Mr. B said but not raining. Only it is VERy CLOUDY here.
Very cool for what they WERE forecasting! It WAS supposed to be NICE and sunny and WARM , but now looks like hard to reach tfhe 64 they forecast for today this morning.
Oh well,
I hate days like today cause you really need the A/c only a short time as the trailer still does heat up like a tin can of beans on a campfire, but Not on all day!
I have finished off the laundry, adn the dishes and used the bakingsoda/vinegar rinse on the kitchen sink drains. does it help? Nope. Need to havet it snaked again I guess. It is real slow going down. half due to asking water to flow uphill, half due they think to a belly in the pipe, causing a blockage, adn wanting only a mere $1300-1600 to repair it! FOr that amout, i can have it snaked 2 times ayear every year for what 5-6 years? maybe later, but not now!
MOH went to my FILs to get some things done for FIL. He has crazy idea MOh shoud help him put up just 2-4 feet of curved chicken wire to keep his once ferral cat ont eh deck when he lets her out! If she wants out she will jump! and if she doesn't come back to him, she never was his, even though he enticed her inside with food before and she laid a litter on him. If she doens't stay, then she has been captive all these yearsa and she only wnated a good safe place to lay her litter.
Jeffrey: I am most positive Ulrich took the layout down or is taking it down...to keep the minimal peace I think he HAS to. You know what they say "hell hath no fury like a dis-pleased woman!".
well, I should go outside and do some stuff, but the humidity is up there and not good for my asthmatic breathing. so inside and maybe do the vacuming i was gonna do tomorrow instead.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar and lots and lots of dark roast coffee to keep my R&GV RR mug filled. Thank you Ma'am...
"It's a lovely day today...." Currently 55°F outside here in the Finger Lakes under gloomy gray skies. Not a shadow to be found. I shall stay inside most of the day and clean house I think. It sure needs it, and since an old High School buddy of mine and his son are coming down to talk about doing the Railroading Merit Badge with their troop and likely will stop to see the layout, I think it would be nice to have a more or less, somewhat, not too filthy house for them to see.
Tonight is the Granddaughters' Dance Recital I shall be going to. Sunday, I work Train Crew at the Museum.
[color=red{Mr. B[/color], I'd go for the helicopter... Easier to manuver on land and sea.... As long as you have a good hobby (and you do) their is nothing not to like about retirement.
Best get myself moving before I fall asleep at the computer... Catch you all later!
Good morning, all. Kind of cloudy and damp, but it's not raining, so getting to the lumber yard for benchwork lumber and a couple of boards to fix the deck outside should be no problem. I've got some decal work to do on my passenger cars, and I may open up that old Athearn growling switcher and try the Pearl Drops trick on the gears.
I got a thing in the mail about my 20th year service award from work. They give us a gold corporate pin and we get to pick a gift from a small brochure they sent. I work for a defense company, so when I opened up the brochure to look at my gift options, my first thought was "Wow! A helicopter! Or an aircraft carrier!" Then I got to reality on page two and saw the usual real selections of jewelry and home electronics I've already got. Oh, well, I don't have room in my garage for an aircraft carrier anyway.
OK, time for those decals!
Morning!
Flo, Coffee pleases.
Work in the Fairview Heights store today. So I have a short drive!
Good morning. It's 69° with 93% humidity. The high will be 90° with a small chance of showers and thunderstorms. with
I wonder how Ulrich is dealing with his dilemma. Did they talk it out or is he proceeding with the tear-down?Just waiting on the Home Health nurse to call so the wound vac dressing can be changed. I don't have anything planned for today so I'll just take it as it comes.Neglected to report yesterday that the disk drive cables I've been waiting on came in. I installed them in the converted Apple 5¼" drives. I slotted the back of the drives so the cables could go through without being twisted or rolled.I guess later today I could work on more locos and watch a few more movies. That's it for now. Be back later.
EDIT: Well rats! Looks I got the TOP. Go easy on the credit card folks.
Galaxy!
Thanks for reminding me its Flag Day.
I'll put mine up now!

We had a high of 80°F for a while today, followed by some hard driving rain. There were a few Thunderboomers in the area, but nothing that hit right here where I am. Is currently 65°F with a low around 50° overnight. I went out to dinner with my DIL, her mother, and the two granddaughters. They had a dress rehearsal for their dance recital tomorrow night. That didn't get over until almost 7:15 so dinner was a bit later than they are used to.
I did grocery shopping, got my Dark Roast Organic Coffee and some other stuff at the Natural Foods Store, stopped over at church to drop off my pledge for the month as well as a check to pay for the new Sound Board that just arrived, and did a bit of picking up around here. I am officially pooped out! Will finish doing the once over cleaning tomorrow. Tomorrow evening I will at my Granddaughters' Dance Recital. I think this will be their last year for dance for a while. They both want to do some other activities. Found out tonight, my son has just bought himself a used fishing boat. This one actually floats, runs, and has room for more than two people in it at a time.... He will be disposing of the old sailboat I got for him 15 or so years ago and the small Air Boat he inherited from my BIL when he died. He has finally taken his SWMBO and his father's advice to get rid of the stuff he is never going to have time to fix and buy something that will run and take up less space. Now he will be able to go fishing from time to time instaed getting ready to go fishing someday.
My Gout has pretty much gone now, but I still have some soreness in that foot... Able to walk quite a bit better.
