Galaxy, remember, the folks at Orbitz are people too, so be kind,,,,even if they ARE idiots!

Probably their COMPUTERS are MORE likely the "idots"!! They will, I am sure, blame it on "computer error".

I would have been "hot under the collar" with Orbitz had they NOT been able to correct it there , or had they NOT had a room for us.

Jeffrey COULD be correct in that the hotel bumped out our reservations for a higher price,,, BUT if they did, the manager put on a good show had a strange look at searching for the reservation under both our names {we did not hyphenate or take or combine names at marriage, we are totally "self-professionally" named.} As it was made under MOH's name, but with my credit card, and the hotel manager had a long chat on the {our cell, though he DID look up hte phone # for us and offered HIS cell to make the call} phone with ORBITZ as he made sure to get us booked in and honored our room at the price we PAID already. He had a devil of a time with them to extract the payment authorizaiton from them { to make sure the hotel got paid}! And yes, the "rack rate" for FRIDAY and for SATURDAY nights was a good $50 HIGHER each night than we had booked for!

I am cooled down about it now, so maybe later tonight or tomorrow I will be a ble to write a susinctly "politically correct notation" to them on their survey!

Lastly, the State Farm agent found a few more things to fix on the repairs, and are writing a check to cover all to the body shop. MOH said I should stick out for "BRAND NEW parts", but I already know after market parts will have to do on an 8 1/2 y/o minvan! They won't pay for "new".  The PROBLEM will come IF mine is NOT ready by Thursday, as Friday is a holiday, and they may NOT want to cover the rental car for the weekend! MOH is going out of town this weekend for work, so I WILL need a car for then too. THAT may be a battle!

The rental is a Jeep Compass, which is a nice enough vehicle but the 2.4 L 4 cylinder DOES NOT have any "get up and go" I am used to a 3.8 L "go juice". It may get better mileage than my minivan, but I don't like the lack of pick-up getting up to speed on highways, even with the A/c turned off! But it will do for now.

dunno, ngiht time now, bed is calling my name!

Good evening. We have a nice evening here with a temp of 84° and humidity of 69%. I was just outside a little while ago and didn't feel wet. First time in over a week.

Been feeling tired and cranky all day from lack of sleep last night. Food situation isn't good. I have rice and  noodles and noodles and rice. Had two Chimichangas last night. It was a gourmet feast! My father invited me over for watermelon this evening. It was delicious! Fortunately my check will be in the bank in the morning and I'll be able to do some grocery shopping soon. The sooner the better.

I was lifting one of my heavier computers a while ago and I felt my left elbow pop. Now it has a throbbing ache. Not sure what I did to it.

As a friend reminded me, I have seven days left.

Real tired tonight so I'm calling it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Good afternoon. Had a couple of incidents last week that were getting my blood pressure to go up. I noticed two overdrafts on my bank account. I have overdraft protection so the bank paid the amount owing each time. However I have to pay that back plus the overdraft fee is $35 a pop. Turns out a company I do (or did) business with for commemorative coins took funds from the account that were not due them. Since then they realized their error and put the money back. However that doesn't cover the $70 in overdraft fees I incurred because of this. I called them today and asked what they intend to do about that. They said they put the money back and that's all they're supposed to do. So I'm stuck with the overdraft charges. So I told them if they weren't going to do anything about I'm not going to do business with a company that hides behind excuses so please mark my account cancelled and I don't want to hear from this company again. Tomorrow I'll need to note that there's a $70 hole in my account and handle my bills accordingly. To say that I'm ticked off is the understatement of the year. Today my blood pressure check came up as seventy-eight over fifty-five. That's the lowest it's been in many years.

Jeffrey:

That is one reason I don't like to allow "auto checking billing". Twice I had such problems.

The first time they turned Monthly billing into weekly billing {claiming they didn't do it, but  had been "hacked"}. After they were made aware of the mistaken auto-over-billings, after another month of it NOT stopping, I had to finally CLOSE that checking account to get the auto-over-biling to stop! I never DID see all that money back from that company and obviously never did business with them again. I lost money from them. They supposedly would send me a  "Check in the mail" and it never came. Probably claimed that I closed the account they could have re-deposited into.

The second time, It DID cause overdrafts. I DON'T write checks that bounce, {or as one high school accounting class member called it a "rubber check" not being able to come up with the word "bounce"}. I may cut it close like you have to, but I DON'T WRITE Checks I can't cover. Now, I got an overdraft notice in the mail along with the notation of fees taken out. I freaked out and marched down to the bank to see just what they had done, as it wasn't THAT close. One company {a credit card company} I had authorized to take out ONE payment via check/phone did it more than once. I read them the riot act, and had it not been for an equal credit to my card {which resulted in a negative balance on said card for which I had to "re-spend the money" to bring it to above zero again}, I would have really gone off the deep end. There again, they "weren't responsible" for overdraft fees.

I said "NO MORE auto-deducts". THAT is what I mean when our checking account was hacked or compromised.

Now, I have my supplemental health insurance auto-deducted and I will see how that will work. I did it ONLY because my check is auto-deposit, and a few days later the auto-deduct for the insurance. I did it ONLY because IF  I am in the hospital, and can't pay it by regular mail, They will cut off coverage and could teminate me totally leaving me without that insurance at all. Other bills i can argue with and over, but not so much this one.

That is ONE auto-deduction I have, the other is the Credit union on a loan we have there, {a different checking account} and there is NO CHOICE, they auto-deduct from ANY account you have with them...pick one, no other choice.

Those two are ALL I allow. ANd I have been very wary of them, and watch like a hawk.

I don't pay any other bills by checking deduction at all like that anymore.

Now, I used the one same credit card I only use for online purchases and for out-of town purchases {like vacations} on this last wekend's whole fiasco, wanna bet it WON'T come up "compromised" sooner than later within the next year? At least THAT company doesn't falter on fruad Identifying false charges on the card adn contacts ME about it each and every time.

Sorry it happened to you!

I feel your pain!

Jeff: That is annoying, good to see you wont do business with them anymore. My cable compnay does stuff like this all the time. Wont get into that here though, its a monthly battle with them about my bill, lol. I dont think it has been right once this year. Problme is there is not a whole lot to choose from up here.

Looks like tomorrow might be a day of strong storms for us and north of here ( also people down south ) as a cold front moves through. Still debating if I want to go sit on the back patio tonight, still really muggy out there. Wow tomorrow is July 1st ( Canada day up here ) the summer is moving right along as usual and it seems like we went from cold weather right to heat and humidity oh well might as well enjoy it well we can as before we know it we will be raking the the leaves up.

Ray - Then you should go to these performances with my wife. She's legally blind & can't see a lot of what's going on, but enjoys the misic & the story lines. Then she could tell you what they are saying, and you could describe what they are doing.  Works for everybody. Now all you have to do is move to Pittsburgh. Right, like that's going to happen.

Garry - It is good. That's the only thing I ever order when we go to that particular restaurant. I always say I'm going to order something different, but at the last minute, I start to think about how good it is, so I end up ordering it as always. I know, like the wife says, I'm old and a creature of habit.

Afternoon Gang!

Flo, coffee and a slice of that apple crumble pie, please!

MAde use of the "idle" time to complete the set of construction drawings for the next project, the buildings on the pier. I also sent out on order for more ply- and stripwood. I found a source which is about 2/3 off the price the local store charges. Including shipping, that´s still half price... It´ll be off my June budget for MRRing purpose, but bwhat I have ordered will keep me busy well into September.

Just a peek at the drawing, now adapted to the given space on the layout:

The frame detail drawings will be printed to scale, to be used as a template for assembly - speeds up tzhings a lot.

I have given up on making the buildings from cardboard - I really enjoy w*rking with lumber.

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of organic granola with fresh blueberries and a cup of Dark Roast coffee to start the day.

Ray - I know you would enjoy these performances.

Absolutely!  Wish I could hear better though.  I lose a lot of the performance when I attend such things.  Your dinner sounds good as well!

Very, very hot day aboard old C-254 yesterday.  To make matters worse with the door open on the caboose, guests were treated to the full blast of the radiator exhaust fro the rear Prime Mover on the 80 tonner...  Most wanted the door open so they could watch the locomotive, so that is the way I left it.  At least it moves the hot air around...Whistling  Had about 120 vistors yesterday.  Strong average day out there.  Thunderstorms were coming in to the North of us as we made the last run of the day.  That line of storms knocked down tree branches in the Rochester area and resulted in 4,500 homes losing electric for several hours.  The muesum is continueing to get some news coverage on Rochester Subway CAr #60: http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/2014/06/29/restoration-awaits-car-citys-old-subway/11725033/

Will be heading out to Boy Scout Camp soon to trim around some more tents for a couple of hours.  I will be taking lots of cold water with me as the high today is predicted to be 86°F.

Later!

Just waiting on the Home Health nurse to call. The wound vac dressing definitely needs to be changed. It sprung a few leaks yesterday and I didn't have enough adhesive film to do the job. So I resorted to masking tape. Stop laughing. It worked.

I'm NOT laughing, Jeffrey, but with my Appalachian Mountain Hillbillys roots, I'd have used Duck tape or Duct tape, {depending on what kind and where I bought it}!

Well, went to the dealer body shop, their estimate is about $1k. Fairly straight-forward and "simple" repair, so they say.

State Farm hasn't been there yet {the other guy's insurance adjuster}, so we will have to see what they say.

If the State Farm guy gets there today, 1 of several things could happen I guess: I COULD have it, possibly by Thursday back in my hands {Friday is 4th of July so they are closed}; If not, SF may not pay for the rental over 4th of JULY; SF may determine I don't really need a rental {YES I do...I had to reschedule ONE Psychiatrist's appt due to their insured biffing me already, and have another appt. later on this week and I am not about to beg off rides due to their insured's stupidity}; or it could be into next week after the 4th before I get it back.

We shall see what we shall see when we see it, and not before.

later

Edit: just got an email for Orbitz..."tell us about your trip and receive an extra 15% on your next hotel stay..."

I will WAIT til later when I can cooly tell them off in a nice way dripping with honey.....

Morning guys,

Watered the flowers earlier and that was about it outside for the day. The weeds, I mean lawn might need a cut but that can wait a few more days. Alot of people around here have had bad weeeds in their lawn so far, the only people who have nice grass are the ones that water it everyday  and pay to have it treated. I dont as its too expensive and we only have warm weather here for maybe 3-4 months so to me its a waste of both water and money.

Might do some inside work today as the temp right now is 95 and getting to 100 this afternoon.

The play we went to see yesterday was "Footloose". It was a very nice performance with almost non-stop singing & dancing. The 2 young leads & another girl were terrific. Not only were they excellent singers, but could dance up a storm. An enjoyable afternoon followed by an excellent dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. Bourbon braised pot roast, smashed redskin potatoes & mixed vegatables in a light sauce. So another nice weekend under our belts.

Ray - I know you would enjoy these performances. Nothing beats live music & talented young performers. They usually have some "name" to bring in the crowds, but they are usually outshined by these young folks. Lots & lots of truly gifted kids out there.

I got the main flower bed weeded early this morning. Thought it best to get it out of the way as they are calling for temperatures in the low 90's, high humidity with possible thunderstorms today. Still took a little bit of a beating out there though. Also got about 4 loads of laundry done. It's kind of noisy in the house as the contractor arrived this morning to start the installation of 6 interior wooden, pre-hung doors. It's going to seem odd to have doors that close & latch properly. We are here for over 40 years & none have ever worked like they should. It's just about impossible to find parts for the latches too. Expensive, but necessary as they say. Well, guess I better see what other kinds of trouble I can get myself into. Have a good day & enjoy it...

Good morning. It's 77° with 99% humidity. It'll be sunny and the high will be 92°.

Didn't get much sleep so I'm not in the most agreeable of moods this morning. No plans other than keeping off my feet as much as possible, watching movies and playing computer games. I'm sure something else will come up.

Todd I know you don't come to the dinner as often as you use to, so that is why I did the PM. I think I found my problem with the Road Runner. Found a power wire that could be arcking, I hope to have that fixed by this Saturday.

Ulrich as usual your workmanship looks great!

I am working in St Charles today so it is a short stop this morning. I am still working out, starting to feel a tad stronger.

Jeff ... You are quite remakrable with your ability to fix up the old Aplle compters.

Part of it is years of experience of working on these old computers, and part is making one that nobody else has but most is trying to keep from being bored out of my gourd.

Good morning all.  It's nice here in New England right now, but the temperature is going up and I'm afraid we're in for a few days of heat and humidity.

We had a great weekend weather-wise.  I spent both days building benchwork.  I've got the box frames all cut and assembled, and the triangular gussets for the legs are in place.  I intentionally built this as two small sections that could be disassembled easily when we are ready to relocate.  Given the hot weather, I'll probably get the legs cut and assembled during the week, and then I can do the sanding and staining outdoors over the long weekend, when I can work before it gets too hot, and apply the polyurethane in the garage to keep the pollen off.

Stay cool, everyone.

Good Morning!

My hand feels much better today, but I will keep it patched and braced for a few more days, which means still no w*rk on the engine house. I´ll make use of the idle time to give some thoughts on the next building, which will be one on the dock, as I like to finish that scene. The veneer I have left is good for two more small building, although I need to cut about 500 shingles to finish the roof of the engine house.

It´s going to be a quiet day.

Blessings to all and special prayers for Johnboy, Flip, Barry and all others in need!

Well, other than doing the aforementioned work on the computer I watched a few movies and played a couple of rounds of Star Fleet 1. Won one outright and almost got my clock cleaned in the other. Yes, I know it's a very old (1984) strategy game and that's about the time I bought it but it still puts me on the edge of my seat.

Watched a couple of old James Bond movies. 'For Your Eyes Only' and 'The Spy Who Loved Me'.

That's it for today. See y'all tomorrow.

Hiya Gang!

Flo, can I get an RBF? Big Smile

Got up this morning, cut the lawn, sprayed the Mimosa tree with some Ortho Sevin,,,thing was covered with japanese Beetles,,,went and checked it 15 minutes later and the japs were dropping like it was a re-enactment of the battle of Midway! Killed the weeds in the driveway with Roundup, all before noon. Spent the afternoon chillin in the basement , getting a large group of stuff ready for ebay later this week.

Hi Guys

Wow a scorecher out today. I did my bike ride and cut three lanws. When I got home the wife said I look awful, I was really hot and cool down with a cool shower and drank alot of water and gatorade. Had dinner at my aunts tonight. Still not feeling 100% I may have overdone it today in the heat and humidity. The central air is on and cooling the place down. Im in the basment where its alot cooler and with a fan going. I may just sleep down here tonight.

Still making my list and " To " on the layout and I may even start work on a new weathering project this week. It may take acouple months to finish but that is part of the fun. If its one thing I have is all the necessary items to weather. Its my favorite part of the hobby.

Todd ... Thanks for commenting; I certainly appreciate it.

Ulrich..... Your engine house looks great especially with the blue sky behind it.

Jeff ... You are quite remakrable with your ability to fix up the old Aplle compters.

We still have our out of town guests here. The rainy weather was less than ideal for their visit.

Did more work on the //e. Changed out the top cover and most of the keys of the numeric keypad. Those are much easier to see now. The keys should look familiar to anyone who's had an Apple II+ computer. They went in with no modifications needed.

Good morning!  I'm taking a break from benchwork.  Phase 3 of my layout has begun in earnest.  It will occupy some "dead space" in the train room, behind the couch where we sit and watch the wholesale slaughter and individual eviscerations of Game of Thrones.

I nominate Ulrich to contribute to Trackside Photos.  If everything else on his layout is up to the quality of that engine house, it's one worthy of sharing with the world.

I went to MIT, so long ago that the tuition for a year was $1700.  Although it was up to $2150 by the time I graduated, it was still worth it.  My parents paid for it, which prompted me to promise our daughter the same.  She's been out over a year now, and the last of the loans are down to a manageable range.  It's one of those things that's kept me from retiring yet.  Not only is she working, she's even working in her field of study, neuroscience.  She earned a significant merit-based scholarship through her hard work and concentration on academics, so she did a lot herself to pay for college even though she didn't contribute monetarily.

Since I went to MIT, I will send out mechanical healing energies to everyone's cars.  We're better at that.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
