MisterBeasley
I'm still flying Flight Simulator 2004 as well, and I run my computer on XP.

That's an old one all right. I still have Flight Simulator one and two and Flight Simulator Lunar Explorer, all from 1982, 83 for the Apple II series. Maybe someday I'll dust them off and see if they still work.

EDIT: Looks like I got the TOP. Go easy on the card folks. I only have like $5 in my bank account.

I've got a preference for the older games, too, Jeff.  I had to have rotator cuff surgery about 20 years ago, and I knew I'd be down a while, so I bought Civilization II.  I've actually tried some of the more recent versions of the game, but I find them unplayable and slowed down by useless graphics and videos.  It's the same with Harpoon, where every "upgrade" since the original game on 5 1/4 inch floppies has been a dog.  I'm still flying Flight Simulator 2004 as well, and I run my computer on XP.

Y'know what I hate?  The old Cardfile program, which I've been using since Windows 3.1, no longer works on anything past XP, and there is really no newer version.  Nothing will import it, either, unless I want to go out and spend perfectly good money for someone else's fix to what Microsoft broke.  Bah.

Good morning. It's 75° with 99% humidity. The high will be 92° and cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Today is Monday and I'll be waiting on the Home Health nurse to call. This dressing did all right most of the time since Saturday but early this morning it started becoming what I call a real problem child. Low pressure alerts, blockage alarms and each time none such existed. It's amazing how much havoc a tiny vacuum leak can cause. As for the rest of the day, I have no idea what I'll be doing. Most likely watch TV and play some computer games. Why don't I play my favorite games on my PC? Because Windows stinking eight won't run any of them! I tell you, I hate Windows eight.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just my decaf for the moment...

Been a very busy day around these parts.  Spent most of the day working an "extra" train today at the museum as our track cars were not able to be operated.  Fairly slow but enjoyable day out there.

Had a short but hopefully productive meeting with the District Executive tonight about the program for the new pack we are trying to get up and running!

I also got an email from a lady from my high School class tonight.  She reminded all of us that 50 years ago today, we all graduated from High School.  We were the first class to graduate from the new building back then.  Turns out her daughter was in the last graduating class from that building before it was turned into a Middle School....  Been a long 50 years!

Hope you all have a great night.  Prayers for Ulrich and many others here in the forum!

Good evening. It's 75° here and with 93% humidity it feels real wet. There's a fair chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight so I have the emergency light back in the bedroom on It won't start running on the battery until the power goes. I also have an Energizer LED headlight up here next to the //e right where I can grab it if needed.

Well today I didn't get much done. I got one of the //e computer systems out of the house. It's new owner is quite happy with it. I didn't do anything else other than watch movies and give some computer related advice.

Well that's it. Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

HOWDY YA ALL, yup buckeroos, it's almost time for the Calgary Stamped once again so I'm just getting in the sprit since MOH and I went down to Calgary for the day to see our Daughter, Grandson and Son in Law. Beautiful day, no wind so we spent the whole day on the deck.

Traffic wise, going down wasn't bad but comming home was 4 lanes bumper to bumper both ways. I hate driving in that plus most of the drivers are traveling about 90 mph or more. Speed limit is 70 but even in the slow lane you'd best be going 75 or more just to keep from getting pushed into the ditch. One lousy police car all the way down and back. Don't know why the police don't start clamping down??? Probably afraid to stop anybody for fear of getting run down. No kidding it's hapened more than once on that road.

At any rate, we had a great visit and are home safe and somewhat sound so all is well!

Looks like I'll be driveing MOH up to visit her sister for 5 days over the Canada Day long weekend on Friday. I'll drop her off and come home, then go pick her up on Tuesday or Wed. Two hours on the road each way but I need a few ME days really bad right now so it will be worth the extra hours on the road.

Not much else to report today so you folks all have a good night.

Over and Out for now

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Protein Shake and a Beer Hmm

Work Front Sigh That cover work today!

I have been threating to do this for all most a month now! I finally had the engery and the time to go layout out diving and pulled out some of my Weight Traing Gear! Yes, Cuda Ken is working out!Yes

I was disappointed in the fact all I could find is one 25 pound plate, curling bar with two 10, two 5 and two 2.5 pound plates and two Bench Press bars with no collars? I know there is around 450 pounds of Yorks Plates around here Whistling but where?

My plan is to do Bench Press, Military Press and Tricepts 1 day.(God I Wish We Had Spell Check) Then Shurgs, Arm Curles, Wrist Curles and Hand the next. All so want to start doing some set ups as a warm up. Pretty Sure that will kill me!Big Smile Hard to believe I use to do 100 of them!

Today I started with the Shurgs, Arm Curles, Wrist Curles and my hands. Went easy on everything just to give the old parts sometime to get use to working again. I think the only thing that might hurt Monday is my shoulders from the Shurgs.

Main thing that has inspired me has been my Forearms from working the hands. I can see the Veins starting to stand out and the forearms ripple when I move my fingers. With My Low Body Fat (All The Fat Is Down Low) Smile, Wink & Grin I think I will see results some what quickly.

I am all so hoping this will help with my next A1C test.

  See you all later, Ken

Hi guys. I was at Jeff's trailer last week and I played some games on his A2e computer and got hooked - BIG TIME! I told him I want one and he said look in the closet, choose 1 and it is yours. I have picked out what I want and I can see I will have to make more than one trip to get it home. I picked a computer with a numbers keypad. He says it is a model a2s2128. He gave me two of his better disc drive units. Unit 1 is a Lobo. Unit 2 is a 4th dimension. They come with a control board. Here is a pic.

Not in the pic is a joystick.

The main software is a pair of system discs for applesoft and prodos. He said they are different languages and cannot run each others programs. I am getting programs in both so he says I need both of them. Included are discs for Applewriter 2, Computer inspector, Copy 2 plus, Disk muncher.

I have picked some games; They are:

Lode runner
Pacman - I got hooked it when I was a kid.
Championship lode runner
Castle wolfenstien
Star fleet 1
Defender
Stargate - Jeff says I will get my butt kicked into last week.
Revenge of lode runner
Burgertime - much harder than it looks.
Hell house - he says I will never win!
Star wars
Zork 1,2 and 3.
Moonmist - another  game he says I will not win.
D-day
Native fury - 3 disc set and very hard to win.
Jungle hunt
Mario brothers.
Marble madness
Frogger.

Good Afternoon,

We are expecting showers or thunderstorms here later this afternoon which is becoming a regular occurence. With all this rain the mosquitoes are very numerous and very large.

Johnboy, please send some warm dry weather! Glad to hear they have figured out your swallowing problem and hope that it can be acted on soon.

As far as acid reflux goes, my wife has a fairly bad case of GERD and has to take meds at least once a day. She has been sleeping on an adjustable bed for the past 6 years. She was using a wedge pillow before we got the bed but she got a burned larnyx from the reflux so now has to sleep with a fairly large elevation. Those beds are really tough on mattresses and we have to replace hers after only 6 years. It is a latex mattress but now has developed a crater at the bend point. Not surprising considering all her weight is concentrated on that spot with the bed elevated. She has been sleeping very poorly lately so we need to get one very soon. I suggested looking for one today but she is too tired so it has become a vicous circle. For the past couple of weeks she has only been getting 3-4 hours sleep and I am getting concerned.

We were down in Minnesota visiting our friends this week and had a nice but short visit. This was the first visit in some time where I didn't pick up a RR order. Oh wait, I did buy a Revell Harbour Tug kit from Amazon so I guess that is a RR item. The kit is a little smaller than HO scale but that is OK as my harbour is small. I will also have to cut off the bottom of the hull as it is a full hull model but it didn't cost much so I won't complain too much if I mess it up.

I actually ran trains a couple of times this week. Just watched it go round and round, kind of hypnotic. As my wife was out, I used the whistle a lot as it was the U2g. I also pulled out the rotary snow plow. It is one of the Athearn plows but I put in a decoder to run the rotary and also I installed a light. A snowplow doesn't quite fit my layout set in June but it looks good sitting in my service yard. Mind you it does take up lot of track space as it is quite long with the tender. It was a gift from my friends so I won't part with it for anything.

Well the car needs a wash so I best get at it. Speaking of cars, I was pleased with the mileage I got going down to MN. I got 32 mpg to the US gallon or 38 for those of us raised on Imperial. Not too bad for a 3.2 litre 6. I did fill up down there as I paid $3.64 for mid-grade which is far better than $4.60 I would have paid here.

Good morning all!  It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, and in the rest of New England as well.  We had some friiends over for dinner last night.  I made swordfish kabobs with peppers, onions and cherry tomatoes.  The trick with the little onions is to microwave them for just a minute or two first.  It makes them both easier to peel and easier to cook, as they end up soft and juicy after a few minutes on the grill.  I put the tomatoes on a skewer of their own, so they don't get overcooked.  Yum.

I'm about to put the Pearl Drops engine back in service.  I'll keep you posted.

Johnboy, I for one am happy about your surgery.  You've been suffering from this swallowing problem for too long, and now you've finally got a diagnosis and a plan forward.  I try to put a positive spin on surgery.  First of all, I know I'll be better in the long run, and second, it's an interesting experience, even if you're the victim...er... patient.

Hi guys!

Once again, I have news to pass on from Ulrich:

He says he should be in here by Wednesday or Thursday!

In the mentime he said I could post the following sentence{S} {Not sure which one he meant}

so here goes:

"I still dream of that little cabinb by a lake, with that red pick up truck parked in the driveway...-Ulrich

Please post that sentence in the Diner - I miss you all very much!"  -Ulrich

{I think he meant "please post THIS sentence in the diner..."}

I think he wants not to worry anybody here, so accept his greeting graciously!

ALL will be revealed to y'all soon enough!

Good evening. It's 81° here with a very damp feeling 79% humidity with a 5mph southwest wind. Looks like we got storms moving in overnight and may have a shot at a somewhat fair chance of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow.

Well I reported on everything of note earlier that I did today so there's little point in repeating it. Here's a quick rundown anyway:

Got foot tended to.
Got some laundry done.
Spent quite a bit of time watching TV. It didn't try to run away.
Changed out a disk drive for the heck of it.

Still watching the Star Trek original series episodes. Up to episode 10 now, 'What Are Little Girls Made Of', featuring Michael Strong, Sherry Jackson, Ted Cassidy and Harry Basch.

Hopefully I'll be able to get some good sleep tonight.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Not much going on here today. As said previous I got the foot taken of and got some laundry done. I've used most of the time since then watching TV. Finished watching 'Goldfinger' from last night then started in on watching some original series Star Trek episodes. I have all three seasons. Currently watching an episode called 'Mudd's Women' starring Roger C. Carmel (9/27/1932 - 11/11/1986). He was in another original series Star Trek episode called 'I, Mudd'. He was also in one episode of 'Star Trek: The Animated Series' of which I also have the complete set. Other than that I took some time to change out a disk drive on the //e. Now that I know the modified A9M0107 Platinum drives will operate with new problem I switched one of the out with a Mitac Disk II clone that I modified with a toggle switch to turn the write protect function on and off as needed.

My father just brought me five fried catfish filets so there's no question of what's for dinner.

That's all for now. Be back later.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, 5 gallon bucket of ice and bury a 6 pack in it for me!

Boy it is a Hot One here today! Sigh Thank goodness I got the Radaitor Replaced in my car! Right now wife and her friends are running around going to Flea Markets and such. I bet they are hating life by now, Sue's car A/C does not work well at all!

Work Front We where some what busy today? Surprise When I left we had 8 customers today. I think last week we had maybe 4. While sales where not great, I did get 2 of my 4 to buy for a mear total of $1382.50. When I left Dave had not sold a thing.

Boy we have a lot of folks here blowing chunks! Could that have anything to do with the Dinner being so slow!Whistling I as well have Acid Reflex but I am lucky. I can take a Pill every other day and it stays under control. My daughter had it bad and has had to surgery's for the problem.

John Boy I must admitte I missed some of the problems you have had but glad you are getting better!

Galaxy, good shooting there buddy! Yes Far as Ulrich can you tell us if he is home or in the Hospital?

Clouding up, so I am going to take Sparkie for a walk and see if he will poop.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a tall glass of iced tea for me while I peruse the menu to see what appeals to me tonight....

Phew, man am I tired tonight.  Spent the day out at Boy Scout Camp for our Raccoon work weekend (the Raccoon is the "Mascot" for the camp).  Of the 5 units of Boy Scouts and ventures that I am connected with (Commissioner or Chartered Partner Rep.) 4 of them were there camping for the weekend and doing major service projects today.  My work for the day was to get started trimming the grass and weeds around tents prior to camp opening.  I got two large tent sites finished as well as Staff area and a few tents in a third very large campsite.  Got all that done on the 7 batteries I now have for the equipment.  I do like the B&D Battery powered string trimmer as it is very light and easy to use.  Under most circumstamnces a fully charged battery will give about 15 minutes of run time.  In some of the sites i can get closer to 20 minutes of run time as the weeds and grass is fairly light next to the tents.  I also took out my little chain saw which uses the sme batteries and did use it in several places in the Staff area.  Usually I don't get ointo Staff as it is Staff Training week before I start the project so there are (were) several trees starting to gorw up where they shouldn't be near the tents.

One "fun" little incident today was at lunch.  I sat with the Handiocapped Troop I am Commissioner for at lunch and the Crew I am commissioner for was at the table right behind me.  I didn't notice they were there until about half way through lunch when the leader came over to chat with me.  I got up and went over to say hi to the whole Crew, and one of the "kids" (19 or 20 years old) in the Crew got very excited when I spoke....  He looked at me and said, "Oh my God!  Mr. Howard!"  Then turned to the others and said, "He was my Music Teacher!!!"  Must have been in first or second grade back then....  I've been retired for 14 years now.  Did my heart good to have him get all grins about it...

Printers....  I have owned many over the years.  First color printer which I bought for the business was a HP 1220c.  It was the only one I bought an extended warrenty for.  Turned out I made a good choice as after about 3 years it wore out.  Took it to the store where I got it.  They checked their records and brought out a brand new one and gave it to me.  No charge.  That one was still doing service when I closed the business a few years ago.  I gave it to one of the Black Churches here in town and AFAIK they are still using it.  When I started producing over a couple thousand CDs a year I bought a Samsung Color Laser printer.  It was a good deal as I got it on sale and the toner was considerably less expensive to use than the HP ink.  About the time I closed the business I was at the point where I was going to have to do major replacement of some parts on it, and since I no longer was printing thousands of documents every month, I sent it to the recycler.  I decided for my personal printing to go with a Canon iP series printer.  The old HP was a wide carriage printer and could print 13" x 19" documents but had a 1/4 inch margin border which it could not print.  After about a year I found myself needing to do some larger prints, so on sale I picked up an Epson Workforce 1100 color photographic printer.  The original Canon printer wore out after a couple years so I now use as my workhorse a Canon iP4820.  I have never really had much problem with any of the printers but I think it is because of how I used them.  So, some observations on Inkjet Printers.

1.  Use them!  Many problems are from them sitting for months on end never being used...

2. Learn how to clean the heads...  The process may have to be repeated several times to get old ink to work...  Even then I end up replacing the cartridge as often as not.

3.  Remanufactured or 3rd. party cartridges.  There are some good ones out there, but many are of low quality and the print is not as good as OEM supplies and the amount of ink is often half or less than the orginal.  The one exception I have found is a place called Ink Technologies.  Their products have given me excellent service at a fraction of the cost of OEM.  Buying in bulk from them a set, of cartriges (6 - Two of the large Black and the CYMK ones) for the Canon will run about $21 compared to $78 from Staples...  I find no difference in the quality of print, but the cartridges hold about 20% less ink than the OEM.  (Disclaimer, I have nothing to do with the company, I am just a satisfied customer...)  They don't make a working cartridge for the Epson I have so those I buy at Staples.

Catch you all later!

Johnboy:  Glad your surgery went well.  I hope that smug nurse learned her lesson to listen to the patient and not assume she knows better.  So many medical people just don't listen to their patients and assume they know better.  Sure, they have the training, but the patient knows his/her own body best.  How on earth do you drink something lying down?  I can't drink anything unless I'm vertical.

I can relate to your problem.  Our grandson, now 9 y.o., was born with some birth defects:  cleft palate, underdeveloped lower jaw, and the muscle that keeps food from coming up not functioning.  He spent the first 7 months in hospital and had a number of surgeries to correct his problems.  He had to be fed mush through a tube in the stomach through the abdomen until he was almost 2 y.o.  He refers to the scar as his "second belly button."  He is  normal now and not a fussy eater and loves sweet stuff.

Seamonster: I think you meant that top comment about my ordeal, not Johnboy's! Mine was nothing compared to what Johnboy has been thourgh with his cancer!

I was relating the tale of the pre-surgery testing and drinking lying down...you CAN do it, and for a "normal person" it should NOT come back up! My system was NOT normal and after years of involuntarily vomitingand/or having eveything come up while lying down, I knew what was going to happen!

I am not sure if she was actually "sure it wouldn't come up" or if she was trying to Psych me into NOT having it come up!!!

Either way, it did not matter...She got it ALL OVER her more than once!!!

I was vindicated!

ANd NO, they NEVER  listen to the patient! Took em 5 years adnd several ER visits to decide my gallbladder should Come out! {seperate story}

Your grandson's ordeal may be closer to Johnboy's!
SOrry to hear his young life started out so crappy!

I didn't have those probelms, but as a full term and actually overdue baby, I came out like a premie, and spent more time in the hospital and incubator for awhile after my mother left it, when I was born- to "come to mature more". It wasn't until I was nearly 6 months old that I made any type of sound! and even then, I wasn't much of a crier, they say. The Q abotu me always was : is he still alive?

Hey Johnboy, sorry to learn about your problem . I have no problem swallowing, its keeping things down as the check valve is GONE . Can't sleep laying flat, have to be in a recliening position else bile comes up.

I'm in touch with Ryan and Jerry. Tom, aka Cat Tom and Bridge Tom , posts a bit on other threads. Who is Texas Chuck??? Don't recall anyone by that name.

Hang tight my friend. We will both beat this .

Prayers for all.

FLIP: read my story above! Get referred to and GO see your gastroenterologist PRONTO! and insist you may be a strong candidate for a Nissan Fudoplycation! {Nissan rhymes like "missin", Fun-doh-ply-cation{that is the corrective surgery they did on my stomach/esophagus!}

I, too, could not sleep lying down, and can't sleep sitting up,so had to compromise and sleep on a bank of about 6 pillows! If I slept on my Left side, I MIGHT have kept the contents of my stomach in place, If I rolled over on my right side, everything was GUARANTEED TO COME UP..I kept a bucket bedside for such.

{{I knew MOH loved me when I rolloed over onto my right side {facing MOH} the first night together and I automatically vomited. MOH got up, said not a word, changed clothes,changed the bed clothes and put them in the laundry, remade the bed and crawled back in beside me, I knew it was LOVE.....!!!}}

I also involuntarily vomited even while upright, I either carried a basin with me, as well as had a garbage bucket in every room to vomit into involuntarily. frequently this would happen.

FLIP: DO NOT WAIT! WHy? a LOT oF DAMAGE has been done to my lungs by stomach acids and bile refluxing up my esophagus and draining into my lungs! If you experience the same, you could have troubles breathing too later on, if not already!

SO please look into it!

The printer I have now, and have had for quite a few years, is a Canon Pixma iP4300. It uses 5 separate cartridges, cyan, magenta, yellow and black with a double size black cartridge for text printing. It always annoyed me that the Epson's all-in-one cartridges had to be discarded when one ink ran out even if there was plenty of the other colours. Yes, the cartridges are fairly expensive. I pay about $20 at Staples. I don't know the exact price of a package of 4 cartridges, but I believe it's in the $60 range. I have used nothing but Canon cartridges in this printer and never had an ink problem for all the years I've owned it, so I consider that worth the little extra cost. I'm very happy with my Canon. BTW, the reason i bought this model is that it will print directly onto blank CDs and DVDs.

I do good to find new 21/22 print cartridge two packs for my old HP 3930 for under $50. There're remanufactured 21/22 two packs for under $30 but I don't like using those as they're inconsistant. I have a newer HP F4100 series but that's no help as it also uses the 21/22 cartridges. I don't use it for printing anyway. I bought it solely for the flatbed scanner.

V8Vegas:  I used to own HP printers and I used refilled ink cartridges on them.  Not a good move.  They weren't as good as the originals and jammed up the print heads.  I may be wrong but I have heard that some Epson printers use an external nozzle and I'm pretty sure the ones I had were like this.  HP uses a piezoelectric crystal to aqueeze the ink out instead of a heating element to make it easier to squirt.  Some believe this gives better results.

Hi Guys

Spent the morning outside before noticing that I was starting to get a little pink. The sun today is very strong, its one of those days where there is a beautiful breeze and dont notice that you might be geting burned before its too late. I am glad I came in when I did or I would be a lobster right now, and in pain. Im just watching the ball agme right now and flipping through a bike magazine. I might try to get a ride in early tomorrow before having to cut a few peoples grass. I have a job interview on Tuesday afternoon so wish me luck.

Went down to my fathers place to meet the nurse and get my foot tended to. Took two bags of laundry with me and got that going before she arrived. She was there and gone before the wash was done. Another hour and it was all dried. Spent some time talking with my step mother then headed home. So far that's been my day.

V8Vega ranted, with just cause:

I'm done buying printers until they get them a whole lot more reliable than they are now, and the ink not so redicously expensive.

We bought a Canon printer a couple of years ago, as the ink for my old HP 722C was getting hard to find, and sometimes even Staples didn't have it.  I must say, I like the Canon better, and it does a much better job on my home-made decals.

The ink for the Canon, though, is a budget buster.  You can see why the printers are so cheap - they make their money on the stupid ink.  It's up to about $75 for a complete set of cartridges.  I was buying stuff on Amazon, so I got a set of cartridges from some off-brand for about $6.  Well worth it, but only because it taught me not to believe user feedback.  I'd imagine the same guy who was selling the ink posted feedback about how good it was.  Complete junk.

The Pearl Drops experiment is under way.  I've got an old Athearn Baldwin S-12 switcher I bought at a train show for $15.  It runs very well, but like many Athearns of that vintage, it's noisy.  So, I took it apart, cleaned out the gears and put in Pearl Drops abrasive tooth polish.  Then I gave it about a 2-hour run, in both directions, to polish the gears.  Right now, it's on my workbench with the moving parts soaking in alcohol, prior to reassemby and application of some fresh Labelle grease.  If it's quiet enough, it gets a sound system.  If not, its own noise will be its sound system.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
