Good Afternoon!
A wet and gray day, but no more thunderboomers - at least for the moment. Parts of Germany look like right after an air raid - never before has a thinderstorm done that much damage.
Started construction of the engine house today. If all goes well, I may be able to post a picture of a nearly done wall. Right now I am taking a break while waiting for the boards to dry after weathering. I took a piece of veneer and first gave it a wash with my black secret mixture, let it dry a bit and then a wash with a mixture of red and a touch of brown. It looks like a well seasoned barn red to me.
Well, CU later...
Have a good one!

Good morning. Hump Day makes me wish for some excuse to put camels on my layout. I find camels and llamas to be great fun to look at. At least I've got moose.
I'm starting to feel like an old car myself. This is my third pill I have to take every morning, and this one's got to be taken again at night, too. Supposedly, the side effects diminish once my system gets used to them. We'll see. There's a part of me that would rather have a short, happy life than a long, drawn-out death. Does anyone have any experience with Metformin? Good morning. It's 65°F with 97% humidity. The high will be 92°F.It was a quiet night here for a change. No rain, no thunder, no party down the road. I actually got six hours of sleep. No plans for today. I'm pretty sure something will come along.
jeffrey-wimberly chochowillie I ended up going to the Emergency Dept at the hospital at 1:30 this am by ambulance. Turns out I have something called Divictorlitus (sp). Ended up with 2 different kinds of antibiotics, 2 stool softners and a mega pain killer. I have that myself. Causes me some discomfort now and then. Most people who have it have it on one side or the other, (left or right) of the colon, I'm one of the unfortunate few who have it on both sides. Lucky me. I had to modify my diet a little to make it easier to live, but as I told my doctor I'm not giving up rice and popcorn. It wants to hurt, I let it hurt. For me it's not debilitating, just another ache to live with. It causes me much less pain than my gall stones do.

I feel for you guys, I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I take a med twice a day to help ease the discomfort of it's spacicity and twissting and cramping etc. It helps sometimes others I am sitting on the throne begging whoever is up there for easing the pain and discomfort!
Jeffrey, I am surprised they don't take out your gallbladder! Of course it took them 5 years and many many visits to teh ER before they did take out mine! I never had stones, just "sludge" and incessant bile production/regurgitation, which apparently they did not deem necessary to take it out as IT WASN'T STONES! It was to the point I showed up every other month in the ER with major compliants, could not keep anything down after 7 days it was time to seek help yet again...and wondered WHERE all that nasty tasting bile was coming from when I was dehydrated? The month before they decided to take it out the Dr said I had pancreatitis, which may be where the hypoglycemia came from, as the gallbladder can have a nasty side effect of aggrivating other nearby organs! The month they took it out, I went in at 6 am, told the DR. "I wnat you to find the problem adn solve it". After the usual blood work etc, he came in and asked if I still had my gallblader, I said yes, so he sent me down to the CT scan and when the results later showed up, they said it was "mishapen, distended and {something else}", so he called in a consult specialist surgeon who said based on my story "I can solve your 95% problems by taking it out". Thusly he did, and It did! but it still left me hypoglycemic!
Frank with the Stripes: I like that engine house too, is that one yours on your layout? or is it someone elses?
Jimmy Braum: Sorry to hear your Wally world is so insufficient. I have a "super center" near to me {wiht a full grocery store in it too}. So they have all kinds of interior and exterior paints, and a whole aisle of spray rattle cans too.
BARRY! GOOD to see you sir! expet fot eh "a" key, hows things going health wise? We have quite a few on the "healing list", you included! can i safely take yiou off, or do I keep you on for good measure???
KEN: MAKE COPIES OF EVERYTHING YOU GOT FORM THEM, and send in PRONTO. WHy? because you may get it into them by the 18th, but they may not get to processing until the 30th of June OR after!! ALso PAY THE FEES and send "return reciept requested"and "insure it,even"!!!!! THAT WAY you have PROOF of WHEN they got it! SO get your caboose in gear, and get it in! You don't want to lose out on a technicallity do you? I am SURE yours is not the only one they have to process!
V8Vega Dennis: many cities are that way, te cops around here are out in force. Due to the Natural gas fracking deal going on across the border in PA winding down, the county is SHORT major bucks on tax revenue they were getting! They are "Stunned" now and looking for blood to make up the shortfall. US who are against Fracking here in NY, have been pointing out "after a BOOM, comes a terrible BUST"....now the county is seeing it wihtout even having it here{we provide support services, waste water processing and of course have frackers shopping here} and why the govenor has it on hold. WIlll it mater, probably not. Not a rant..just sayin'.
Well, I will go grocery shopping this morning and pick up a script. That and a few dishes are it for me today.

Good evening. It's a pleasant 73 here but at 75% the humidity is murder. No rain tonight. In fact no more rain until maybe Thursday. The nurse arrived a little before noon today. She did a good job on the dressing. I think she'll be coming again on Thursday unless something comes up.Other than that there hasn't been much going on here. We had a little rain, just enough to get my windshield wet. The internet service was up and down several times. Apparently they were working on the cable somewhere near here. I just laid back and watched a few movies. One of them was about an elderly ex-cat burglar who programmed his health care robot to help him pull off heists. That was sweet!Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Today was a fair day at the very best, this is till I got home! Then it became a suckie day! BoS is up to there dirty tricks again! When I got the new loan, it clearly stated that I had till July 1st to get them the signed loan! Today I got a Fed X letter that states Pleases sign and return your documemts immediately or you may no longer be eligible to receive a permanent loan modification!
What the Cabosses is there problem! I got the loan papers around, the 3rd and this letter is dated June 7th? I tell you, again I am just about done!
My only hope is if I can keep the house a year I might get my local bank to write me a new Mortgage. Other wise I will have to deal with theses idiots till I am Dead!
If Moses had used BoS as his first Plauge the Israelites would have got the heck out of Egypt the second day!

I checked the walmart-The only paint they had was "Watercolor kids stuff", the rattle can, and the solidified Testors paint. They didn't even have any regular paint. I would have gone to the local hobby shop, but it doesn't open until 1 on weekdays, So I wasn't able to go to that one. I'll check out a couple other craft stores in the area in the future. Thanks for the tip!

Galaxy, I'm still loyal to my LHS and buy most of my train stuff there, but I've got no loyalty to Best Buy or other big chains. Some time ago, I had a problem with something I'd bought there, so I took it to their service counter. "Service" consisted of giving me the address of the manufacturer and telling me "It's not our problem."
So, buy that wireless router from Amazon. I just bought my new camera that way. The router is so cheap that you may need to spend more to get over the "free shipping" level. May I recommend the Kalmbach book, "Historic Guide to American Railroads."
Afternoon all, I hope all is well for everyone, and prayers/thoughts to those who need it.
Well, I work at 3 today, so I am making some more money today. I also took a trip to the local walmart and noticed...Their "hobby" section is garbage...One damaged can of flat black spray, and several bottles of testors paint that looks like it already hardened in the bottle. Anyway, I forgot to get the spray paint when I placed my walthers order-so beggers cannot be choosers huh?
I also decided I am officially switching to Wheeling and Lake Erie/fictional Austinville and Dynamite City railroad for my future modeling interest. I am keeping all my Pennsy stuff and creating a railroad museum to display it on the layout. I am also planning to have the option to do railfan excursions with my Pennsy steamers. Not many people model the Wheeling, so it's a perfect niche for me to do.
P.S.

I think the weathered barn red is a great choice, glad it recieves so many "seconds, thirds, and maybe a fourth"! a littel color in our life is not bad! The color "grimy black and sooty' is so common with steam railroads gets stale after awhile!. Around these here parts, the older 1800's RR stations, unless built of brick, the wooden ones were painted a kinda "bright" solid green. And the barns were red, of course.
Took the vest to the Post office and mailed out 3 4 bills today...3 regular monthlies and one medical bill payment on a plan for MOH's finding out about the PAGET's BONE DISEASE MOH is saddled with well over $700, and we don't have that lying around. Made arrangements for 3 payments, the first a little larger than the other two. That is over half MOH's income for the month. No way we could pay that all at once. Since I wasn't budgeted for it, it will still be a hardship. We were expecting a bill, but about half that. And Near as we can tell, the insurancce company LISTS it as a service redered {though they don't pay on it yet}, BUT fail to take it off towards MOH's $2600 DEDUCTIBLE! We have to call them tomorrow and find out WHY and take up the cause to get them to include it off the deductible. We are ready to argue if naught else.
I did not get to Best Buy, forgot all about it, but my back is screaming form the injections, so REST is BEST.
well, we are not amused!
I will be resting most of the day!

Morning guys,
Been fiddling with my 2 BLI C30-7s. One one fine, the other likes to stall on some turnouts. I cleaned the electrical contact areas with a pipe cleaner (outside bearing) and swapped the trucks entirely between the 2. If the one that stalled works fine, then it's the truck. But since both locos are out of warranty (BLI's is only 1 year), I'll do what a friend in the club suggested and use NWSL washer to remove some play from the trucks...
I got my 3 Athearn RTR boxcars that I only paid $15 for. All three cars would be over $20 a piece if bought from a store. They are in good shape, except for some stirrups are missing (broke). I'll replace them with metal ones when I get a drill bit.
T/A Dennis, Sucks about your Trans Am. For a car that is 20 years old you have really low mileaage. My mustang is also 20 years old, but it has over 241k miles (and I still race it from time to time). My mother's Edge is only 4 years old but has close to 70k miles already...
Dennis (V8 Vega), The UP challengers are pretty big. There were some bigger Challengers (Like Norhern Pacifics) but they are all gone.
Ken, I kind of agree with you on the new cars thing. But my by the time you'd buy a old challenger and fix it up to modern standards, you'd probably have spent more than buying a new car and souping it up. However not many people will have older challengers that are up to modern standards. Personally, If I had the money i'd either:
A. Get an 05-08 mustang (roller or V6), swap in the motor, electronics, suspension, etc. from a 2011+ mustang GT. Remove the back seat and maybe add some tweaks.B. Find a 1969 Mustang Fastback, put the new 5.8 in it, newer 6-speed automatic with a stall converter, stiffen up the suspension, etc.C. Find a Ford GT, maybe stick in the new 5.8D. Put together a GT40 kit/replica. use a 351 cleveland, and run with it
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have the #2 special this morning. Over easy eggs, bacon, home fries, and a doubble order of sour dough toast as well. Oh, yes a cup of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee will be needed as well, and check back often for refils please... Thank you Ma'am!
Today is..... ah... one of those days here where the deffinition "If you don't like the weather, jusrt wait a minute" describes it well. Most of the time it is just dark, gloomy, and cloudy out there.
I shall send some time cleaning house today. Then I have to drive to my sister's house to load her lawn mower into the back of the PiP and take it to the Menonite small engine repair and sales place near Penn Yan to get it back up and running for her once again. She somehow broke the cable thingie that you have to hold on to start and run the mower. Well, she said it stopped working, so she had a nieghbor guy (whom she dislikes with a passion and the feeling is mutual) come over to "fix" it for her. he pulled the whole thing off the mower while playing with it, so...... This is a $125 mower she has already spent $200 repairing over the last couple years... I'm wondering what this will set her back? I also will drop off a couple checks to the Big local Bank in Canandaigua to be put in the MLK 501c3 account while I am there.
Ulrich, I will third the use of "Barn Red" on the station. A touch of dark red will give the scene a nice look and break up the weathered wood of the dock, etc.
Best get myself moving...

Afternoon Folks!
It´s a hot and humid day - not my kind of weather. I feel drowsy and beaten down.
Thanks for the input on the color. i will get a bottle of red paint and give it a try on the veneer. That stuff takes on the color very well, but it also doesn´t like to get wet ...
Right now I am uploading a short video of my layout to the tube. I´ll post a link as soon as that is done.
Galaxy - I own the modem as well as the WiFi router. The modem was free of charge when I signed up with my Internet provider years ago. When it broke down 2 years ago, I got the latest model, again free of charge. They even sent someone around to install it! The WiFi router I have is a Cisco router, which I bought when we moved into this place. It was about $ 60 at that time. It may not be the fastest one, but for my needs it is OK.
CUL!
Edit: Egad - I got TOPS! Well, Janie, here is my credit card - put whatever those chowhounds are going to have on my tab!
Good morning. Cloudy and drab, but only "showers" in the forecast. Tonight is hockey night.
Got my perscription straightened out. CVS kept telling me they didn't have the perscription, and the doctor's office said they sent it and re-sent it. Turns out, they sent and re-sent the earlier perscription for a half-dose, and CVS wouldn't fill that because the old one hadn't been used up yet. So, the office messed up on the dosage, but why wouldn't CVS tell me that, instead of "we didn't get any perscription at all?"
I pulled the other 3 old Mantua streamliner passenger cars out of service for painting. I've got them all apart, and one of them is washed and tape-masked for primer. I hope to get them all primed Wednesday and painted Thursday. There's something satisfying in taking old stuff like this and bringing it back to life.
Dennis, I'm sad about your car, too, and the grief you're going through with the insurance. Does your own insurance have "uninsured driver" coverage? It's an add-on, but everybody should have it. For one thing, we are close to New Hampshire where insurance, believe it or not, is optional, and there are increasing numbers of drivers who have no licenses, registration or insurance because they are here illegally.
Ulrich, I've got to agree with Galaxy on the paint for your engine house. Heavily-weathered barn red is best. That will give you a bit of color without looking out of place against the weathered gray wood. If you want a "new" building, go with white with black shutters, but a steam railroad wouldn't use white.
EDIT: And I see I need to double space again.

Speaking of honey-do's. I intended to work on the layout all day yesterday. However, My Main Squeeze had other plans for me. .... Sigh...
Happy Model Railroading (Or honey-doing as the case may be)
Good Morning,
It has been an early one for me as my wife had a doctor appointment at 6:30. He does start early. At least there wasn't much traffic getting there. Neither of us are what you would call 'morning people' so it seems like noon now even though it is only 8:30.
Dennis, sorry to hear about the T/A but I would agree with Ken in that 2 grand isn't much damage but then again when it is your 'baby' any damage is too much. I had my 2000 Volvo S70 rear-ended in 2011 and the damage was first estimated at $4500 even though the only visible damage was a broken tail light, cracked bumper and a very small dent. Once they opened it up there was a lot more so they wrote it off.
I actually ran a train last night for about 10 minutes which is the most model RR time I have put in for several weeks. I think I drive my wife nuts when I run the U2g as I use the whistle a lot. It can be 'played' so that the end blast has a different sound and it is the correct one for that loco too.
Well we will be heading out to the yard later as I have been informed that several shrubs aren't in the right location and must be moved.
Ken, good luck with the tree trimming. It really helps if you have a limbing saw or maybe you could borrow one. If you plan on using the saw on a different tree, put bleach on it to prevent transferring any diseases. I have to trim a branch off a crabapple tree in our yard so will be doing a similar job. I'll saw off the small branches first as it is amazing how much those branches weigh and how fast they can come down. I will just use a step ladder but I do have an extension ladder to get on the roof. I agee with the others on getting one that is strong enough.
See you later,
CN Charlie
well,
Ulrich: I would pick the weathered "barn red" I think you were alluding to. WHy? no particular reason, except that with ALL the wood the same weathered washed out gray, you MIGHT want some color on the layout! I DO realize when I lived on Cape Cod, that many of the houses were all that same weathered look shingled siding, and they DID all "look alike". That is one reason I would opt for a colored building! "gray drab" kinda gets to you affter awhile!
Went to Wally WOrld. Sorry, but NO $25 wifis at my store..the cheapest 300N is $50. well $46.99 plus taxes -easy $50! i just looked, they have several options ranging up to about $199 for them. i DUN'T {to quote Ricky Ricardo} think We need a $200 banger!
I have to go out later to mail back the non-fitting vest, and I think I will stop by Best Buy and look-see... they have $49 ones too on line, I know,.and iff'en I have troubles, maybe the geek squad can help me out. In a world of high tech, it sucks to be non-tech-savvy! I'd rather spend the $50 that way than to have NO HELP from wally world!
Jeffrey: glad t o hear the patchworking is holding..would hate to see you develop a mold problem, develop pneumonia and die...I know you have the A/C, but have you considered a dehumidifier? we have two working ones now, one in the LR and one in the hall. Running them only for about 6-7 hours a night every other night, we still pull out 1/2-3/4 buckets full of water EACH! It helps keep the closed-in, a/c running "musty smell" we get down if we are not carefull this time of year. One should suffice for you. The newset one we have set down to a 30% humidity-desired setting as we found it would not run and therefore not draw out water if set at 60%, the low end of the "comfort zone" according to my humidistat! the new one works on drawing auto matically to the setting it is set at. The older one is set to run constantly, a setting the newest one does nto have. We wondered WHY we had not a single drop of water and thought the new one was defective and were about to return it when i cranked it down and heard the compressor kick on. Then It drew out water alrighty!
Just sayin', think about it, It may help keep down moisture seeping in you can't see!
well, off for a nap to rest my back, I don't want tio over do it today! I have to be VERY careful not doing so!
latger
Good morning or should I say wet morning. It's 64° with 100% humidity. The high will be 85° with a fair chance of rain. with Got woke up early this morning by a band of intense and dangerous thunderstorms moving through the area. The rain and effects were heavy but not quite to the point of being severe. I don't know how much rain we got but it was a lot. We're still getting some heavy rain here but the worst has passed. So far the only two items on my list of things to do is to stay dry and wait on the Home Health nurse to call. My eyes still feel weird from being dilated yesterday and they're still somewhat sensitive to bright light. An item of good news is that I don't see any water seeping in around my bedroom window.
Good Morning!
What a night! we had quite a bad thunderstorm last night. Fortunately, my area was not as much affected by it, as the regions south of us. 6 people got killed by trees falling down, one guy on a bicycle. Why would anyone in command of all his senses go ride a bike in this weather? There is no end of this - more thunderboomers moving our way.
I had plans to get some lengths of stripwood to start on the engine house, but I don´t feel like leaving home today. I am in no rush, so postponing it has no effect.
I am still not sure what color to choose for the engine house. Heavily weathered bar red? Or just aged and weathered wood - like the docks?
Next thunderboomer is moving in ...
