Good Evening!

Time to get some rest! Flo, make that a Beer for my friend Ken and me, please. Actually, this is the only place, where I have a beer.

Ken - a letter from Maryville arrived in today´s mail - a big thank you goes in your direction!

Here is what I did today:

1. Started to play a game of Mikado, with self-made sticks

That grease-proof paper really does the trick. It prevents the parts from sticking to it when glued together.

2. ... and here is today´s achievement:

I gave the walls another, more intense wash of barn red. The tone I had yesterday was too pinkish for my taste.

Got to take the car to the garage for the 1-year service and oil change. That´s going to be a big chunk to swallow.

Mornin'.....

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of Blueberry pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup and a pot of Seneca Lake Dark Roast coffee this morning.

I think the last couple of weeks of Go, Go, Go has caught up to me.  I have no energy and a long list of deadlines to make...  The First meeting of the new Pack went quite well last night as we signed up 4 Cub Scouts and know of one more who is interested but wasn't there last night.  The District Executive will follow up on the lead.

I best get myself moving if I am goiung to get anything accomplished today...

Later!

We'll get there sooner or later!

Morning all.  I am sure the tech guys here will enjoy this but, I found my copy of SimCity4 rush hour, and I reinstalled it on my Windows 7 computer with so many mods to make the game super realistic (Traffic mods, real stores, CSX,NS,etc locomotives and cars),etc.  I also caught my 18th heritage unit last night under a tornado watch

Well, my stuff for a Wheeling and Lake Erie locomotive is coming in today, so I may start on that before work.  Otherwise, I have no plans today.

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

It's XP for me. I've got W7 at work and I don't like it.  Of course, part of that is having it managed by our IT department, which still has me on IE8.

Even better, and Jeffery will appreciate this, in the process I found my long-lost copy of Sim City 2000, an old computer game that I've missed. I was able to load it up, another minor miracle since it was written for Windows 95.

I have a CD copy of that around here somewhere. I'm pretty sure it won't run on my Windows 8 machine.

Good morning. It's 72° with 100% humidity. The high will be 92° with moderate to heavy clouds. Showers and thunderstorms possible after late afternoon and through tomorrow.
Morning: Afternoon: with

Well the forecast says it all. Cloudy and wet. Today I'll be waiting on the Home Health nurse to call. I'm also waiting for a package with two Disk II cables to be delivered. Other than that I have no plans for today. But I'm sure something will present itself. As far as working on the layout goes the kind of work it needs I'm quite incapable of at this time.

Good Thursday morning.  Kind of gray and drab here.  The commute to work was easy.  Hopefully, the trip home will be, too.  I was worried yesterday because there was a small plane crash in a town I pass through on the way home, and I'm sure the nearest road, which takes a lot of traffic, was probably a mess.  Fortunately, the plane was a Cirrus SR22.  That plane has a built in parachute that lowers the whole plane gently to the ground in case of an engine failure, so the 2 occupants were just fine.

My wife wanted a couple of empty CD "jewel boxes" for some photo disks she's putting together as gifts.  Of course, a while back I tossed a bunch of them in a cleanup effort, but I was able to find some.  Even better, and Jeffery will appreciate this, in the process I found my long-lost copy of Sim City 2000, an old computer game that I've missed.  I was able to load it up, another minor miracle since it was written for Windows 95.

The second batch of my Mantua streamliner cars have now been cleaned, masked and primed.  If it doesn't rain, I'm going to paint the red stripes on tonight.

Ulrich, please keep posting updates on that engine house.  I love it when a plan comes together.

morning coffee in the diner...

GOOD THURSDAY MORNING!

Today is Thursday,

June 12th, 2014!

Healing energies, thoughts

and prayers for those

among us who

need them!

Today's word and Quotable quote:

plutarchy

PRONUNCIATION:
(PLOO-tahr-kee) http://wordsmith.org/words/plutarchy.mp3

MEANING:
noun: 1. Rule by the wealthy. 2. A wealthy ruling class.

ETYMOLOGY:
The Greek biographer Plutarch (c. 46-120 CE) has no connection with this word. Rather, it's Ploutos, the god of riches in Greek mythology. The word (and its synonym plutocracy and the word plutolatry) are derived from Greek pluto- (wealth) + archos (ruler), from arkhein (to rule). Earliest documented use: 1643.

USAGE:
"Boston's upper crust made sure that they had an unfair advantage over their less fortunate neighbors, an advantage intended to perpetuate plutarchy and a socially stratified society."
Keith Krawczynski; Daily Life in the Colonial City; Greenwood; 2012.

A QUOTE FOR TODAY:

The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for whites or women for men. -Alice Walker, poet and novelist (b. 1944)

{Makes you wonder doesn't it?}

Good Morning!

Barry - good to see you. Take care, will you?

I had a nightmare last night. I thought I had shrunk to O scale and was standing in the engine house. I tried to look out of a window, but barely couldn´t make it. Now I am a fairly tall guy, but with the lower window sill being at 5`6", looking out of a window may turn into a challenge. I knew something was wrong! I got out my surgical instruments first thing this morning and corrected it. I have to redo the cladding above the windows, that´s all the "loss" I have. It´ll be done with the next wall.

Have a good one!

 Good Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer and egg rolls pleases. Dinner

Today Front Very boring all the way around. I only had 2 customers today, both only wanted frames. No hate mail from BoS so that is good.

Galaxy Far as getting the paper work back to BoS my lawyer will handel that end. I all so need to see if she thinks I should excpet the new loan. She will be calling me Thursday.

John Boy I was MIA when you where stricken. Glad to hear you are doing better!

 Ulrich Looks out standing!

Bad Habit Front Well I have cut my Beer and smoking habit by 1/3rd so that is a start! I know, I know I need to stop completly but slowing down is a start.

Working Out Front While I am still working out my hands and forearms with the hand held thing. I am either so tired when I get home or have to many Honey Do's on my days off I have not had the time to craw under the train layout to get the weights! Bang Head My hands are getting stronger and the forearms are getting more defined. In fact the forearms are starting to feel hard when I flex my hands. I hope to get some of the weights out Thursday, I am off.

68 Road Runner Day, no Honey Do's Thursday! Yep, no honey do's, no taking Sparkie to the park and no grass cutting this Thursday! Have a couple of Mopar friends comming by and time to get going on Miss Lumpy again! I checked on the Mopar Site and it was June 2 of last year when I started working on her again. Where did the time go? Whistling I hope to be out of the house before 10:00 AM to buy some needed suppiles. Oil looke nasty the last time I looked, going to pick up a new coil as well.

 See you all later

Good evening. We have a mostly clear sky with a comfortable 78°. Tomorrow looks to be nice but rain will be returning tomorrow night.

Today wasn't a total loss. I disassembled and inspected a Disk II disk drive then put it back together and back into the closet it went. Other than that I watched some Godzilla movies from the 50's. A pair of disk II drive cables that were supposed to arrive today didn't. The mail carrier forgot to put them in the mailbox. They should come tomorrow. They were ordered last month but because they have to come from Bulgaria it takes a while. Fortunately they don't cost much.

That's it for today. See y'all tomorrow.

Good Evening,

Another day of gardening here with the big seed clean-up. We have a large elm and a maple tree that are shedding their seeds so it is a perpetual cycle of clean-up until they are all down.

Had a little excitement with a mouse that got into the dryer via the vent. I thought I heard something last night but wasn't sure as it stopped when I put on the light. This morning I discontected the vent and took the flex piece outside hoping the mouse was in it but no. That meant it was likely in the dryer so we gave it a 5 second burst and the mouse flew out of the back. It looked to be dead but then there was some movement so it was quickly dispatched to the river bank nearby.

Dennis, I have diverticulitis so I can sympathize. I found out I had it when I went in for a colonoscopy and when I came to was told they couldn't do it due to the diverticulitis. It hasn't caused me any problems so far. It is a common condition for people over 65 and in my case is hereditary as my mother had it as do 2 of my cousins. You will need to go on a high fiber diet and drink a fair amount of liquid daily to keep it under control. I eat bran cereal every morning and drink as much water as I can. In my case I was told it likely started early on as in my '20s once I told the doc my history.

Johnboy, good to hear from you! Good luck with getting your swallowing back under control. I was wondering how you were doing. Keep the nice weather coming this way.

We are having a fellow come tomorrow to give us an estimate on doing a bathroom reno. It won't be a major one but we do need to do some improvements. We only have one bathroom upstairs so for any future re-sale we need to do something. Besides it is looking a little shabby. We need a new vanity but will have to get one custom made as it is recessed in the wall. With this house we can't use any pre-built items. Everything must be custom built as that is how the house was originally done. Custom usually means expensive.

Well time to get ready to watch Nova.

well,

I ahve been giving thought to something lately.

I have WAY too much RR equipement ad way to many structures really for my small 3.5 x 5.1 HO scale layout.

I have been giving thought to selling, yes selling {BUT NOT HERE mind you =against the rules} some/all/part of my collection.

I was going to expand the layout in the BR it is in, but it is so crowded with other stuff that we can now not even get in the doorway! We really have littel to no storage in here this trailer comes wihtout much.

I have about given up on buying a MRRIng space with a house above it!

So, what would you think of doing if you were in my shoes?

'I know ultimately it is up to me, but looking for ideas.

side note I have a choice of dinenrs tongiht cooking all at once: BBQ BEef short ribs, Tbones marinated with sauce, sausages cooking, and will do the pasketti squash. Hmm. choices choices...

Mister Beasley - I've been taking metformin since early 2011. I take an 850mg tablet twice a day with meals. I never had any side effects at all. So for me, there never was any problem. Hope this helps some.

Sorry to keep on this, but I prefer the opinions of objective guys like yourselves rather than a doctor reading from a script.  When you started taking the Metformin, did you have a period of adjustment with side effects before you felt normal again?  I've been told to expect that, but I don't know how long it takes or whether he really means "You'll get used to it."

Good to have you back with us, Johnboy.

Galaxy, sorry to hear about your mountains of meds.  I never took anything until my mid-50s, so it remains an adjustment.  When I went in for my physical a month ago, I had lost weight and felt good, and I thought I'd come out with a gold star on my report card.  Instead, I took another trip to the drug store and haven't felt right since.  I've gained weight and I feel like I'm ready for the glue factory.

Hello. Good afternoon everyone. I will have a Dr. Pepper please and to keep Jeff happy I want some Tabasco in it too. That should be interesting. My life of late has been a bit boring. I did a lot of traveling in March and April, much of it out of country and all work related. I am now getting my life back to something that resembles normalcy. I will try to get in here more often and discuss things other than my w#rk. That subject could be VERY boring.

Galaxy, I sent you a PM.

Dennis - It's going back some, but if I recall correctly, he was on a high fiber diet, and was suppose to stay away from things with seeds. I think there were some other restrictions but they are long forgotten. But things change, so I don't know what they recommend these days.

Jimmy - Nice photo. Maybe I'll try the other spot. I think there are 4 heritage units that I have yet to catch.

Good Evening!

Chloe, make that a Beer for me, please! I think I deserve it!

Johnboy - good to see you! Continuing prayers for you! I hope that swallowing will come back soon!

As the trackwork seems to be fine now and both the 4-4-0 and the Forney have a smooth ride over it, I started out on the building of the engine house. Here comes the result of today´s activity:

 P1080001_zps52177705.jpg

The frame is made of 4 x 4mm stripwood, the windows are industrial windows from Addie Modellbau/Germany, made a touch smaller.

P1080003_zps4642383e.jpg

The frame was treated with my secret mixture to give it an aged look.

For the planking, I used .5mm Afara veneer. I gave it also a treatment with my secret mixture, followed by a red wash to give it a faded "barn-red" look.

P1080003_zps4642383e.jpg

P1080004_zps25c726fc.jpg

... and finished ( almost )

 P1080006_zps78b2efdc.jpg

The wall will see some more subtle weathering with pigment powders to represent decay and some "growth", ie. moss etc.

well

Johnboy! good to hear form you, too sir! I was wondering if work tired you out extroadinarily, or if you could funtion through it. Good to hear it sounds liek doin OK. Half my teeth are fake and come out too, so they aren't the greatest either, both top and bottoms have plates, just partials, but they are better than nothing. At least I am able to swallow, though.

Barry: was hoping to hear more about you too! Well??

Jeffrey: I think the ins {medicaid only at the time} thought mine should stay in longer too. Amazing they will continue to pay for lots of things to dance around not paying for the one thing that can solve a medical problem! like the ins stopped paying for the iritable bowel med, cheap compared to sending me BACK to the gastroenterologist to seek an alternative med, which they would not cover eiither!

Mr. B: THIRD pill? Third pill ONLY? Gee, I take 26, some up to three times a day! Shesh, comnpared to you I am a walking pharmacy! most of them I have been taking so long that I can do it in my sleep{I have one to help put me to sleep too!}. I cannot do without one of them. when I don't take the asthma meds, for example, i can't breathe so well, if I forget the heart meds, my heart will start jumping all over the place and I will be lucky not to pass out. I will be in severe internal distress if I don't don't take the gastro-meds. I get very mentally unstable {more so than I already am} f I don't take my psychotropics. Oh, two of those scripts include machines: Cpap for sleep apnea so I don't die while I sleep adn Oxygen machine as I don't brethe so well even with the CPAP machine. its akin to being hooked up to a respirator. NAd NO, I don't take metformin! Not yet anyway!

Jimmy Braum: welcome to real life! the few always ruin things for the many!

Well, I went to the grocery store. $135 in damage. The specials add up, I guess. BUT, we wILl be having spagehtti squash and t-bone steaks {in sale and marked down} tonight! If they had not been on sale/markdown, NOT! Makes it aobut $250/lb!!! and MOH has been asking for "pasketti squash" for awhile, and doesn't really like squash like I do, so i'd beter take it whilest I can. Since we never eat out {well MOH gets to witth clients but gets reimbursed} So I like a special dinner once in a while. I just wish I didn't always have to cook it!!!

well, the phone rang so I better answer it!

Mornin' everyone!

Janie, Ill have a short stack of blueberry pancakes with butter and real NYS Maple Syrup...  A coupl sausage patties to go along with it would be great.  Oh My coffee...  I'll have my usual Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast again today, please.

Mr. Beasley, I have been taking Metformin for several years now.  At the moment I take a combination pill of 50mg Januvia and 1000mg Metforming twice a day (Janumet).  So far the combination is working great, hence the 5.8 A1c level.  I have not noticed any bad side effects from the medicine.  There are a couple which can be serious, so discus with your Dr. and your pharmacist what to do if you experience any of them side.  Chances are you will be fine on the drug.

A dark and gloomy day here in the Finger Lakes Region today.  No shadows out there at all and the lights are on in the house.  Currently 72°F outside with thunderboomers expected later this afternoon...

I have some banking and check writing to get done for the MLK committee today, and then a "Sign Up" event for the new Cub Scout Pack here in town.  The local paper did get an announcment in and we had flyers available at e big festival down at the lake last weekend, so we hope a few families will show up.  Would love to see the pack be successful (I have a lot of energy expended in helping them so far...).  I also need to continue cleaning the house...  Complete pig pen and I am embarased when people drop by for various reasons.

Catch you later!

Whistling

Hi Gang,  and you too Galaxy,

I've been checking in daily but have not been posting as you were mentioning.

I have returnewd to work (part time) . I started on June 01 (Sunday), then Wed. then Fri, Sat, Sun, and Monday.  All 4 1/2 hour shifts from 12:45 till 5:15 pm and although by Monday I was quite tired I think I have done OK.

I am very thankful to you all for keeping me in your thoughts.  It truly has been an uplift to my spirit.  I have remained quite positive through this all and have not considered myself sick but only having to overcome a problem and I think that has helped as well.

I am off to see the hearing specialist in an hour and then tomorrow I see all the Medical Team to see where I stand now. I still can't swallow although I can do all the exercises, my mouth and throat feel disgusting, lots of gooey phelm that it doesn't matter how much mouthwash I use I cannot get a clean feeling palet.  Can't chew gum as I have no bottom teeth with only a plate for the top.  Oh well, I am still on top of the grass and much better off than a lot of folks, so I might not be real happy but I am content.

Layout wise, I am doing quite a bit of wiring putting it into a more complete block system as it was getting a bit confusing with some areas being controlled by Peco insufrogs and some by blocks. This is going to be better, the insulfrogs will still be used for spurs.

Hope you all have a great week and get your phones and cable all sorted out.

Sorry about your misfortune Choo Choo (Dennis)  Hope you get that all sorted out quickly.

Must go time is getting short for that hearing appointment.  One of my hearing aids has never been right and they sent it back to the factory for realignment and now it is ready, but they want to do some more tests as well.

See you soon

Johnboy out....................for now

from Saskatchewan, in the Great White North..

We have met the enemy,  and he is us............ (Pogo)

But then, he would have been the first to admit that he didn't always do what the Doctor told him, & didn't watch his diet like he was suppose to.

Diet????? What diet.... they didn't day anything about diet. Have an appointment with my GP on Tuesday so I'd best ask him about what diet I'm supposed to be on.

Still getting the run around on the car insurance issue. Now I can't get ahold of the adjuster. Indifferent

Cheers

Jimmy - Glad you mentioned the fence. I was thinking about taking a ride to check that spot out. You had mentioned it before. By the way, did you catch the Interstate. It's been an elusive one for me. I either find out about it after it has passed, or it goes through in the middle of the night.

Yeah, I got the interstate awhile back with the FECX locomotive leading.  It was absolutely filthy. There still is another spot in the area that is open-It is the parking strip next to the NS office building (Former PRR baggage office).  As long as you do not park about 3 or so spots next to the building, the employee in there doesn't care.  To get to it- You drive to Monongahela, and get on railroad street.  Driving down past the aquatorium, you then come to a stop sign.  Keep going straight for about 10 feet, square building on your left next to the tracks is the NS building.  You then see a strip of parking...that is the other spot to photograph trains coming from/going to Shire Oaks.  There is also "Tubby Hall" in New Eagle, a pull off spot in Courtney PA, and a couple other spots.  Plus I suggested to the aquatorium to consider putting in a railfan platform for photography down there when they asked for suggestions, so who knows.  Bottom line is, The park portion is at least temorarly destroyed, but the strip of parking is fine.  Then again, the fence stops at the crossings, so you could probably still shoot at the crossings-just stay off the road, and off the rails.

I am currently waiting to hear my scanner call out "N22 Northbound" it has the NKP unit leading, and one of the 3 I still need to have seen all 20 of them(16 in the same area-I caught the PRR up at the Galitizin tunnels with the 765, but that is another story)

Oh yeah, Here is an example of the kind of shot you can get from the parking strip-It's actually part of the original platform from the station that was torn down/burned down (I forget what happened to it).

This was taken a couple nights ago at the MP36/signals in Monongahela.

Dennis - You must have really ticked off the powers to be. If it was me, I'd go to bed & stay there till Mr. Misfortune left town. Hope they can get your diverticulitis under control quickly. When I was working, one of the guys at the fire station had it, & it flared up on him from time to time. But then, he would have been the first to admit that he didn't always do what the Doctor told him, & didn't watch his diet like he was suppose to.

I was busy here at home yesterday. Started off doing a couple of loads of laundry, then I washed the car, then waxed it. Also got the interior cleaned, except for the windows. If it doesn't rain today, I might try to get that done as well. Not much else going on, so stay safe & enjoy the day...

Morning all.  It's supposed to rain today, and pretty good/powerful thunderstorms here.  I have to finda new railfanning spot now.  The city had to put up this UGLY,BLACK,Chainlink fence with metal poles on top where I would usually pull off to set up a shot.  It's because idiots keep walking onto the tracks from that spot, and the city is holding concerts there and does not want to run the risk of an illbehaved person walking onto the tracks. Thanks tressapassers, you ruined it for everyone!
