Good Afternoon!
Time sure passes by quickly when you are busy! Did some more paper model railroading by finishing the drawings of the Harbor View Hotel and the second pier - the one to the left of the layout.
There will be two more drawings I need to prepare, for the depot and for the lighthouse, certainly the most challenging one! But it is about tome I get to some real MRRing, something like starting to lay the track ...
Galaxy - watch that cold. I am prone to turn a cold into a bronchitis and even a pneumonia. Did that three times in my life, I don´t want that to happen again.
JeremyB - I am sorry to hear about your wife´s Grandpa passing - may he rest in peace!
Johnboy - that´s good news - continiung healing prayers for you!
Bob - keeping your wife in my prayers. Hospital food must be bad, otherwise people would not want to go home! I´ve heard, that the better the medical service is, the worse is the food. I must have been to some really good hospitals in my life, without even knowing it.
Ray - I like the first picture the best, but ... It´s a little bit like a view from a helicopter (there were now helicopters in the era you are modeling, so it must be either a bi-plane or a hot air balloon). May I suggest to move the camera a little further down, a bit more to the left and also inwards?
I hope, jeff is doing well and he is giving the nurses a hard time!
Have a good one!
Mornin' folks!
Zoe, I'll have a shart stack of buttermilk pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup, a couple sausage links, and lots of Seneca lake Dark roast coffee for my R&GV RR mug please...
Currently 54°F here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS under partly cloudy skies. so far the bright yellow orb hasn't shown up....
Todd, The building is quite small so, although I have not been inside, I think there is only one room on each floor. So yes, you would be able to see through the building with the windows. The upper door.... Again, this is only a guess. There may have been a post with a block and tackle over the door. I can find no evidence of one today, but it has been 70 - 80 years since it was a blacksmith's shop. The door itself appears to be original but it is hard to tell. I think the forge itself might have been on the second floor as there is a window directly below where the chimney is on the first floor and not one on the second floor. It could also be that the chimney brick stopped on the floor area of the second floor and the forge was on the first floor and vented striaght up to the chimney.... (probably more likely actually). Anyway, my guess is that supplies were block and tackled up to the second floor through the doorway up there.
Ulrich, getting a good angle for the photo has been problematic. I have to get an angle where the old support post on the far wall doesn't show (in these it is blocked by a tree), the unfinished scenery from another part of the layout doesn't spoil the shot, and the far corner of the room doesn't end up in the photo.... Matter of few more scenery changes and more experimenting with angles. I agree that I don't want the helicopter shot..... I'll be doing some more today as I have time. Oh that shot ... ah... was taken from the hillside across the tracks from the Shop. Yep, That's it! The first and the third photos were the ones I liked the best, BTW.
GMT Yup!!! Fix one thing and two more now don't look right.... The stone wall behind the caboose will be on todays to do list.
I have to go over to the local High School this afternoon. Go through "Security Checkpoint #1", leave my NYS Drivers License (and one shoe I think), provid 3 forms of photo ID, an explaination of why I want to enter the Halls of Education, and pick up the MLK Scholarship Applications before everyone leaves for Spring Break today. One major problem is they won't be ready for me to pick up until 2:30PM which is dismissal. There will be a 3 mile long line of SUV's all wasting fossilized dinasaur dung waiting in line to pick up their sweet little darlings so they won't have to cross any streets and get some excercise on the 3 block walk to their homes.... I may have to show up around 1:30 and just wait outside in the parking lot in the PiP for an hour in order to be able to get into the locked up building at the right time..... LOL Not all that bad but it sure has changed since I worked for the Schools. Only folks I know anymore are former students who now teach there or are secrataries, etc.
Later!

well
I am still misserable.
Mr. B.: if only that were true. That would be easy. I am an asthamtic. I've had some damage to my lungs. I have had scarring from previous bouts of pnuemonia. My lungs are in bad shape and on good days I can have trouble just breathing, and especailly on high humidity days when my lungs cannot dispell the excess moisture.. I DO NOT have any sinus problems or sinus drip. The coughing comes with phlem brought up form deep within my lungs that is hard to get out. Remember I sleep with Oxygen! I also use a Nebulizer. I DID have a "head cold", but sinuses are over and it has settled into my chest. my lungs rattle, and no sinus drip means it is not that. I have always had chronic bronchitis issues and even with a pneumonia vaccine I can still get it. Last time I spent 2 1/2 weeks in the hospital. I had a viral infection and opportunistic fungal and bacterial infections set in while my immune system was taxed. Mucus expectorant helps, lets hope it does the trick!
Thanks to : GMTracing, Todd,Ulrich and others for the well wishes. i wish to be well as soon as possible.
Ray: It is sad that schools have become so "restrictive". I have to wonder how that kid who stabbed 20 people ever got away to do it. I don't have kids, and won't have anything to with other peoples kids much. The mother next door has finally allowed {about 2 days a week} her 9 year old to walk from the bus stop the 3/10ths of a mile around the curve in the road to their trailer by himself. her kids are never without her..she is whereever they are at all times. they call them "helicopter parents" apparently {hovering over the kids all the time}. I used to think that was a good thing, but when he is old enough to drive, will he be Ok to walk home alone the 3/10ths??
The mailboxes are that said 3/1th of a mile around the curve in the road away. The bus dropped him off one day I happened to get my mail at the time the bus was there. The bus driver did stay there watching as he walked the straight part and crept forward to watch him go around the curve simply because I was THERE. the bus goes merrily on its way when she is there at the stop to get him and I go get mail. So, It wsa simply because I was there that the drive watched the kid like a hawk. There is also a driver who watches me, not the kids, of the High school bus when dropping them off simply because I have gotten my mail at that time of day. And they get dropped off way down the corner of the other road, but it is straight shot view to the mailboxes. Safety I guess. can't be too careful apparently. I try to avoid those times of day now if i can or think about it. Because anytime I am there getting my mail, which I am entitled to do, mind you, its like a big deal if students are there. Mind you a few parental looking figures also watch them from afar. So give up your 4 IDs, your shoe and don't forget the retinal scan and fingerprints and DNA sample when you go! BUT! I CAUTION you about "just sitting in your PIP" waiting for an hour! They might send security out to "greet you" asking "just what are you doing here and what are your intentions with our school and kids"???
Jeffrey SHOULD have a way to chat with us, if he can figure it out. I will CALL HIM LATER if he has not been on to see what is up? Only IF he hasn't been in here! It may take him awhile to actually get on and in here to read what is up before he posts!
WEll, I go back to resting now.

Hey Jeff did you read the instructions or just wing it like most of us do
Welcome back, Jeffrey. You're like the first robin of spring, and I'm sure the hospital food tastes like worms.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
jeffrey-wimberlyDon't write me off yet. I'm still here. A friend sent me a tablet and I finagelled my way onto a Wi-Fi connection. The firewall was a minor problem but here I am. It's hard to keep an old hacker down.
Welcome back! I guess I don't have to call you then!
Pleased you figured it out and got access to us crazy old goats!
GOod to see you!
Yoyu have a lot of reading to catch up on, but wiht the tablet, you will be able to when there are lull momnets in the horse piddle as Todd of Toddland calls it!
You are still on the prayer/healing energy/thoughts list, though!
Hope dinenr was/is good and still "passes"
Hurray!!! JEFF IS BACK!
Jeff, I don't know if you realize how much you are/were missed. It is so good to hear from you.

Wait, how do we know it is really you? There weren't any pictures attached.

Afternoon.....
So Chloe what's the party for? Ah.... Jeffrey is back! Well, that is cause for celebration I'd say.
Jeffrey, good to see you friend! Hope your healing well and getting so you can once again hobble around to do all those things you love so much!
I'll just have a seat out of the way, and let others say hi!
Good afternoon all...
Welcome back Jeffery!!! Speaking as a cantankerous old goat...you just can't keep us old goats down.
Hi Ho Hi Ho it's off to Carson I go! Carson City...that is. To get some stuff for the layout at my local craft store since my LHS went by way of the dinosaurs in November. Little Vegas (Reno) doesn't even have a LHS anymore. Hmm...just can't see driving 140 miles to Sacramento or 400 miles to Vegas just to go to a hobby shop...I hate driving anyway.
I need a 50 cal Barrett so I can repair my car and pick up.
Well the railroad is beginning to look like something...like a mish mash of unrelated dioramas...but hey, it my railroad. Got a couple of airplanes in the works.
As soon as I can get organized with my mess...I'll post some photos.

JEFF, Good to hear from You. Great that the Forum member, helped You out. One site, is like a ghost town, without You. You know the one. They were pullin' for You though.

Jeffery, great to see you back in the Diner and hope your healing is progressing well!
Johnboy, glad to hear you are starting to get back to normal and thanks for not sending that clipper our way. Your intervention is appreciated now that the snow is really melting.
Seamonster Bob, good to see you in here too. We should get together for a coffee sometime. I'm retired now too so just PM me your telephone number.
Well not much new in my neck of the woods. We are expecting highs of below freezing as in -5C for Monday but at least we aren't supposed to get much snow tomorrow, probably showers. I have been running the HO quite a bit recently so I think some N time is in order.

Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a cup of.... Oh, Thank You Ma'am... She's good!
OK, youse guys.... I want to play the game I did yesterdeay one more time. I spent part of today doing a bit more scenery, moving a few things around,. and taking more photos... You have been most tolerant of my asking and hopefully this will be the last time I go through this with you. So, which of these 4 photos do you think, or do you like, the best? Thanks in advance!

I'll be back later!
Ray .... #1 hs best camera angle in my opinion. All look great!
First off, Johnboy: If I didn't say so already, good to know you are "improving" and are back even if only for a few posts! You are STILL on my prayers/healing thoughts/energies list, and will remain there for awhile!
Jeffrey, A big back to you! GOod to see you are still kicking here! GReat to know you can use the tablet! We missed ya, iff'en you didn't notice! DOn't scare us like that again! Like hostler Mark H says, some of us old goats you can't keep down for long as we will fight to the death....
RAY: I like #2 and #4! why two photos? well, because I like the "fuller" train in #2 over #1, but I like that hte "complete" wall is showing in # 4 but with the junked car missing, it, um, lacks something! SO, I will take #5, the one with the car fully in it and the FULL retaining wall shown! Well, Upon looking again, it seems maybe #4 is best bet, even with the car out back if you don't want to take a new one. i guess It DOES show off the smithy better with the car out back! Now: for your next project, you must do a round barn!
I feel better tonight than I did earlier all day. Cough has quieted down, with the help of {guaffesen{sp?}}mucus expectorant in the strongest form available. Now watch me be up all night and sleep all day tomorrow! May have to go shopping tomorrow for more. I DO take Sudafed to keep the sinuses clear, maybe that helps too in keeping no sinus drip, Mr. B.
After having last weekend off, MOH has to work both weekend days this weekend, one day form last week's payroll, adn one fromteh comming weeks payroll. I'd loive to tell MOh to quit, but we need the money as main job is only 30 hr/week really, adn the extra 8 hours is needed badly as we are still diggin out from debt accumulated when MOH was underemplyed or unemployed totally. Plus the high deductibel plan from work is a bit of a joy-kill as we have never had that before! That and we lost some low income benefits, and that is resulting in "the law of diminishing returns" alive and well in ouyr household. Those loses actually means we are "getting less for more". But I can see a light at the end of the year approaching. Barring any unforseen circumstance! The budget is well blown out this month. Hopefully next month has no surprises, as what little we have saved is dwindling FAST.
An unforseen circumstance has arrisen today! It seem MOh got a call from the Health care org aobut the xrays of the left hip. It seems it show "degeneration" of the hip happening, The mere fact that MOH fell out of bed onto it only served to magnify the problem. We see the orthopedist the 24th for eval. Probably start with PT {physical therapy} adn wrok from there. MOH had PT for it when it originally happend, adn it did little good. MOH is wondering when a replacement of the hip may become necessary? at 55 on the 18th here, MOH is not getting any younger!
I have a labra tear {the lining of the socket} in my Right hip, and my left hip aggrivates me often. So does my left knee. I suppose my extra weight does not help. That will be the first thing they tell me to do. "Lose the weight", well if I could. I would! I am thinking about liposuction, but that costs money as is "cosmetic", Not when you have 2 bad hips, and a bad left knee! MOh is as skinny as code 55 rail, and look at that hip!
I still could sand to lose aobut 75 lbs, but try as I might, with sugar issues, it is hard. that and excersize with my bad hips and knees, doesnt mix well. I used to walj around the block 4 tiems, as that was 1.3 miles. I did that 3 times a day when I first got to 200 Lbs. That and eating rabbit food with just enough "good carbs" to carry the sugar issue, but it all did no good. after 8 months of that , with no signs of loss, I gave up.
WOn't know yet how mch our "co-pays" at the dentist will be eihter for my services for my bad teeth. That coverage is not panning out to be well-covered either! We pay a Lot to have those medical coverages, and see little benefit it seems. MOH did NOT want to contribute to the Health Savings account and I insisted we do, as we can benefit form it I htink. Just that MOh did not wnat teh "use it lose it" aspect to bite us in the butt, but it is before tax money and can cover some of MOHs expenses, like the $300 expense for the xray visit to the Dr. to get the diagnosis we have now. W e don't contribute what is probably not enough to get through, but at least it will help wiht the script costs.
WEll, that is our current tale of woe. that and I am miserable.

Ugh! Just got back from a semi successful run to Carson City. I hate driving. Driving...especially to Carson City is too much like my job. Aggravating as sin and a serious pain in the back. How can a town of 53,000 have rush hour traffic like Philadelphia...a city of 3.5 million. Absolutely no public transit...that's how. It seemed like the entirety of Nevada and northern California went through Carson between 330 and 530. Makes me appreciate coming home to a fat and incessantly yapping Pomeranian here in Felony flats.
Okay, I'm done...off to the layout I go. Follow the yellow brick road...follow the yellow brick road...

Barry Blownout Cylinder ..... I was noticing your absence and thought it was your music keeping you busy. Sad to hear of your needing a double bypass. ..... Prayers for you. ... Please keep us informed ...
V8 Dennis .... We saw the horrific bus crash in the news. Really sad . .In the CA accident yesterday, there was a car involved which resulted in the big truck hitting the bus. I wonder if the driver of the car was at fault. .... Reminds me of the 1988 bus crash in Carollton, KY. A drunk driver caused a bus accident that killed 27 people and injured 34 others. I see the signs at the site of the accident in KY everytime I drive to Cininnanti, OH and pass it on I-71. This is one of the worst if not the worst drunk driving accidents in history. .

Good Afternoon Folks!
It´s a lovely Spring day in my neck of the woods. Clean, crisp air, and a lot of Sunshine. Not really warm, thouh, but pleasant. I took a picture out of my living room window:
Do I love this fresh Spring green! Too bad we don´t have a balcony
Jeff - it´s good to see you back in the Diner. I missed you! Please take care and get well soon! How are the nurses?
Barry - After my recent bypass-operation, I feel much, much better. Take it easy and slow for a while, will you?
Started on anotherdrawing this morning - the lighthouse. When I was nearly finished, the software crashed and all of my work was lost, although I had saved it a couple of times in between. Rats! 4 hours of w*rk lost! Recreating it took less than half of the time, and now the file is safely backed up on a USB-stick.
Ray - my vote goes to picture # 3. It looks as if someone was taking it from a hill across the tracks in the foreground.
Flo, coffee and a handful of those chocolate chip cookies, please.
Have a great day!
Good morning, and a fine one it is. It should hit that magical 70 degree, although it's still in the low 50s. Clear blue sky all the way around.
Ray, I'm going with picture #1. I like the view of the caboose. It's the way a caboose should be seen, tail-on and receding into the distance.
