Jeffrey, would a small shop vac with a air intake valve work?? Duck tape a plastic bag over your lower leg, cut a corner of the bag and tape the bag to the vac hose, adjust air bypass-vola. All the ditius gets caught in the canister, rinse it out, good to go again.--No you say???  Depending on what is coming out you might be able to chum catfish and bream in close enough to make a real killin.Borrow your sisters meat grinder, head off to the gulf stream and we can work on swords, bluefin, and yellow eye tuna,  The last fish i sold was 1175 pounds, and I was paid $18.20 a pound. Later that same week some of the boats recieved as high as $96.00 a pound for theirs', and we are comming into spring run time.

Just a thought

Glad you are home.

Too much power even for a small Shop-Vac Hangup Portable with mini-attachments. Even my Campbell Hausfeld 2-Gallon compressor draws too much. A 'Dust-Buster' running at one-quarter power might work but that would require one heck of a conversion and would be almost impossible to keep sterile.

Since Galaxy has the tab I'll have a double decker grill cheese sandwich.

Since you were in the hospital, we'll give you a pass on missing National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day on Saturday, April 12th.  But, be of good cheer.  April is also National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Month.

The wind was howling here in New England last night.  I thought I'd wake up in Kansas with monkeys flying around my bedroom.  It was still in the 60s, leftover from yesterday, with some light rain.  Tonight?  32 and we may have snow flurries.  New England weather.

I did a bit of scenery last night, just adding turf and some ground foam.  I didn't have time for much else.  The wife and I are catching up on our TV shows - last night it was "Ripper Street."  We've still got a few weeks of those to go.  Thank goodness for DVRs.  Most of the shows we like are on past my bedtime.

Good Morning All!

It's 60F and rainy right now, with heavier storms later today. The last few days have been very nice and warm, so I started painting the exterior of my house. I have 3 out of the 4 sides done. It took a day on each side due to the extensive ladderwork involved. This project is weather-driven so I'll probably finish it off next week sometime. This will give me a couple of days for train stuff.

Jeff, I'm glad you're back where you are comfortable. There's no place like home!

That's it for now. Take care everyone.

Good Morning All,

59F and rainy today just north of PAV. Swamped/buried/overwhelmed (pick one) just now so this will be brief. I do want my blueberry jelly donut and regular though Zoe. G's payin? - excellent!

Welcome back Jeff. We all had you in our thoughts and prayers. Love the alarm story and can relate. On the road, I now use just my phone that has a gradually increasing volume. Some of the room clock radio alarms nearly cause a coronary they're so loud.

Gotta run - lots to do before we leave for Atlanta Monday. Pocono went well over the weekend. Cheers, J.R.

Happy Tax Day 2014! ..... Stick out tongueCrying

Just completed my Mother's taxes. The AL taxes were not as easy as should be the case. The software (HR Block) I use has all of the states, but their AL software did not support all needed scheadules.  I would be glad if income taxes were replaced with sales taxes.

CNCharlie

Garry, you have my sympathy as there is nothing more frustrating than a decoder that doesn't work.

I have QSI, Tsunami, Digitrax and Loksound sound decoders in HO steam. I like the Loksound Select the best for both motor control and sound. I have a Select Micro in a PK2 0-8-0 and it works really well. It was pre-loaded with several 4 axle steam options. The bell actually sounds metallic and all other sounds are the best of the decoders I have. It was only about $80 from M.B. Klein. The motor control is really fantastic. That loco literally crawls.

Well time for something I guess so I'll go do whatever.

CN Charlie

My experience with Sountraxx is it takes several days for them to reply to emails. Their decoder sounds fabulous when working.. This is my first steam sound decoder and my only Tsusami. I have several diesel sound decoders. Of the engines you mentioned, I also have the P2K 0-8-0. It and other steamers will hopefully have sound eventually..

Galaxy .... Sounds like you had some needed sleep. Hope the cold is improving.

Jeff ..... I suppose now that you are home, you have a lot to catch up on.

Yesterday, I received a Dgitrax AR1 automatic reverse unit. Last night I used it to replace a MRC reverse module. The MRC unit sometimes would be too slow to reverse polarity on a loop track. Then the track circuit breaker tripped and trains stopped. The AR1 allows for adjusting when it reverses polarity. It is installed now and working well.

Happy Model Railroading

You're right about that. I've been catching up on the five forums that I post on. Just found out that on one they're renaming their Coffee Shop thread as "Running Bear's Coffee Shop". That knocked me back a few steps. It'll be interesting to see if they do it.

Good morning. It's 41° with 67% humidity. It'll be sunny with a high of 60°.

No hard and fast plans set for today. I'm expecting a call from Home Health at some point so they can tell me about their schedule. They're supposed to be providing me with a wound vac in about a week. In the meantime the wound is supposed to be redressed every day or so and I have no supplies with which to do it. I guess it's a sit back and watch TV type day.

Extra strong coffee TO GO, please.

Stormy here and tonight it will drop below freezing. Wonder how all the fruit trees (now budding and flowering) will handle it? Heard a big thud earlier this morning, like a tree hitting the ground. Will do a little search in a few minutes.

Have a terrific day all.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Good Afternoon/Early Evening!

I have not been feeling well today and did not do a thing, other than helping Petra in the kitchen. We have a tiny kitchen, so most of the time I was just in her way.

I am on my way to the sofa, with a warm and comforting blanket. I hope this helps a little.

CU all tomorrow.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I'll have a turkey club sandwich with all the trimmings and a cup of decaf for the moment, please.

I spent the morning at church with the pro sound installer from a place in Rochester, NY.  He found no problems with the equipment, except he can see the old mixer is not going to last long term as what we have happening will get worse and the cannels will cascade down after a bit of time.  I will probably pay for a new board for the church.  Looking at a Soundcraft board.  Could go with a full digital board this time.  But I would leave that up to the guy who does sound 90% of the time.  While he was there we had him adjust a couple channels (EQ) and explain (again) to the guy who does sound what the little knobs actually do and how they work...  I have said the same thing but had it fall on deaf ears....  This time he could hear the difference plainly!  One improvement we will go for is installing one more speaker in the array we use.  that should give us better coverage of the area.'

Now I need to get busy cleaning the house a bit before the gentleman arrives tomorrow to do the DCC changeover.  Don't want him to find out whjat a total slob I am...

BTW, It has been sn*wing out since about 11:30 this morning.  It is starting to stick on the lawns and roofs around the neighborhood.  Glad I didn't put thesn*wblower away yet... Sigh

Catch you all later!

Gee, and I thought it should be "Running Bear's Tobasco Lemonade Stand"......

Well, It is now sleeting, or "slaining"..sleet and rain, or "frain" as in freezing rain now.

Tomorrow EARLY is my Spinal nerve injection appt. I have a Change in Insurances sorta ironed out, but don;t have my card yet, so I have a # to give the providers to bill. I hope the plan works out for Medicare supplemental insurance coverage I think I am getting. It hsould cover all secondary fees of all medicare authorized billing dodads.

Naturally, I wil be out of commission the rest of the weeek as my back will be in intesnse pain..the cure almost worse than the original affliction.

Then Thursday I have Mental Health Appt. Maybe I can get in to see the Psychiatrist as I will soon be out of psychotropics. DOn't need that...

So I will have a busy few days...guess I will survive.

I may have to skip the morning greeting as early we will be rushing to get ready for 8am appt for my stabbing....

Dunno..

Doctor at rehab hospital put me on Novolog insulin. Supposed to inject ten units before meals. Did that. Had two big pieces of fried chicken with potatoes and greens and now having a crash? 60's descending into 50's? That's not right! Now I gotta eat more to get the sugar level back up! Not using that stuff again!.

Hey Garry.Thanks

Your photo of the bear made me laugh out loud ! My girls liked it too. Been pretty busy. Helping my girlfriend get her house fixed up to sell EVERY weekend , lot of work. 14 years of substandard maintenance. Replaced , gargae doors, garage door opener, pressure washed the house, painted the front porch, replaced three doors, replace shoe mold in the kitchen, taking junk to the dump, fixed the dish washer, caulking, replaced the dryer .....wearing me out writing about it ! Then at w**k finished one site and gearing up to start second site. Mountain of plans , contracts to read. At home taking care of the kids. Havent had time to get my trains out at all !! How have you been doing ?

Ulrich, Galaxy, Jeff will be lifting you up in prayers.

Got a call from Home Health today saying that they had a problem. The doctor who ordered a wound vac for me is out of the country for three weeks so he can't sign off on the the prescription for it. I had an appointment with my primary care doc for a follow-up on April 30th but that's too long to wait. Called in and changed the appointment to the 17th (Thursday). That will enable my primary care doc to sign off on the prescription for the wound care vac for Home Health so they can get me that piece of equipment.

Got my blood sugar level back up and I'm not using the Novolog insulin again til I've discussed it with my doctor. That was too close!

Nothing else happening except watching a bunch of TV programs and keeping my weight off my left foot as much as possible. Still a lot of red meat showing so the dressing must be changed every day until the wound vac can be gotten and a suction dressing can be applied. That'll have to be changed every three to four days.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening guys

Well today was a headscratcher. I ran into an issue with my car I don't think anyone has ever had... I noticed it as I was leaving work cause my battery indicator was on and I had no power steering (try steering a car with the power steering off with a 275 front tire). Pulled into the nearest gas station, and noticed the belt had came off. Then I noticed the water pump pulley was way to far foward... Turns out the flange that the water pump pully bolts to came off the water pump's shaft... That thing is pressed on, so I have no clue how it came off... So I called my father to bring a tool box and a 3/8 inch breaker bar (for some reason, Ford decided it would be a good idea between 1993 and 1994 to change the pulley system so that a prybar won't work). Took the fan and resivor tank off in the parking lot of the gas station, then the pulley and flange fell off. tapped it back on with a hammer and put it back together. It worked for about 3-4 miles... My father said "screw it" and drive it home the way it was. I had to pull over cause it was starting to overheat about 2 miles from home...Left in his car and came back half an hour later. Drove my car the rest of the way home; then took the fan and resivor tank off then hammered the pulley back on. This time though, we welded the flange to the shaft. Seems to work, and should last until I get that other motor built... This isn't car car's original water pump, but a remanufactured part. I'll just have to be a bit picky with those for the new motor.

I didn't get to the train club till about 7 because of that. I would have gotten there at 4 had it not been for the issue. Tonight was a work night, so I added weights to some of the club cars that needed them.

Anyways, I have to be up early for work tomorrow, followed by an interview, and probably some work on the piston rings and rods for my new motor. So I'm off to bed

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good morning.  I got out of bed, opened the shades and...snow.  Yes, we had about a half-inch of the stuff overnight.  It didn't cause me any problems, but there was a car by the side of the road that didn't look like it drove there intentionally.  That caused a rubber-necker delay on the other side, I think, that slowed me up later.  It's like people had never seen a tow truck before.

Other than that, not much.  We had fun at Tuesday Night Hockey.  My sore  shoulder doesn't seem to be affecting my play, but I'm still taking Ibruprofen and sleeping better because of it.  I'll start taking myself off it tomorrow.

Good Morning All,

27F with an inch of snow and ice on the ground. Happy April 16th ! I'll have a regular and a short stack of Blueberry pancakes please Zoe.

Dennis - we have the same sort of issues here in Ct. One of our neighbors has an aggressive shepard that frequrntly gets out and roams the neighborhood. Unless you can catch him and pen him, the dog catcher does nothing. Just an attack waiting to happen. No amount of complaints has helped. If your neighbor does have legal status, he could sue for damages I suppose but all things considered it sounds like not an option.

Vincent - actually I have had the same problem a couple of times. Once the pulley walked off the water pump of a Lotus twincam  and stopped the car for the weekend as you have to disassemble the whole front end of the motor and as you now know the pulley will just walk back off if nothing else is done. Welding wasn't an option as our pulley was aluminum and presses on without any other hub. The other was the water pump impelleron my Lotus 7 which used to freewheel above 180F overheating the motor. Hard to find and almost as hard to fix. As far as water pumps go, Stewart seem to make the best ones for American V-8s and most of the aftermarket ones are Chinese dung. I won't use those on street cars.

Jeff - I hope you get everything straightened out before you have some sort of problem because of lack of the proper equipment. I know how much I worked when my foot was wide open for a few weeks trying to make sure I didn't do anything to incur an infection. With your diabetes it just makes it all more critical. Hang in there.

Rob - hope you make it through the freeze ok.

Nothing to report on the model railroad front - just lots of shop w..k to try to keep on top of. Cheers, J.R.

Good morning. It's 39° with 94% humidity. The high will be 68° and sunny.

Got a great deal on a box of parts for the IIe's. Two memory expansion cards, several drive controllers, printer interface card, CP/m co-processor. All tested and working. Price: $30 total. No way was I passing that up.

Gotta change the dressing on my foot this morning. Other than that I won't be doing much. Probably just watch a bunch of TV programs, play with one of the //e's and rot my mind. I may spend some time looking for a couple of Digitrax 9-pin decoders for two of my repowered Varney F3A's. Maybe I can find a good deal.

Jimmy - What neck of the woods do you live in with the temp. change like that ? We expierenced something similiar here in Va. too. Crazy weather. Good luck on the job.

Dennis - careful on the dog. I had a friend with a similiar problem. The dog attacked his daughter. No action on the police against teh owner of the dog. So he poisoned some left over chicken and left it in his trash, the dog ate the chicken and died. My friend went to jail ! For several years ! Screwed up world and the Gov. wants to run our health care ! No thank you . How can they do that if they cant catch a dog ?

Vincent - your car sounds like an old 68 charger I used to have , man some strange things happened with that car.

Galaxy - Anossa - hmm been there a time or two !

Gotta get back to w**k

I suppose you could get a lawyer to go after the dog owner, but that might end up costing you more than the vet bills.  Or, maybe you need to find a city councillor or whatever (we call ours "selectmen") who will listen and exert some pressure from above.  Perhaps there is some kind of board meeting you could attend and air your grievance.  The police aren't interested, so you need to push them from a different direction.
