Well, I got my spinal nerve injections {similar to an epidural}. Actually today i don't feel so much pain from the injections, at least not yet, so not to bad. I will still rest and do nothing much today so as to no agggrivate it. Then I will have about 4 more days of do-nothing-ness to get through before i can really put my back back to work, so to speak.
DOGS: unless they bite a human, dog catchers don't seem to do much, sorry to say. Doesn't matter how aggressive they act or act towards other animals, it is only when they bite a human that gets noticed.
Jeffrey: Hope they get that wound taken care of before it becomes a problem. You are running out of parts to take away if it gets infected!
Jimmy Braum: we went from 69F to 24F in less than 24 hours! welcome to April, where April showers will bring May FLowers, but watch out for the snow! I don't ever llok for spring to actually come and STAY until May anyway. That way I won't be disappointed when things like this happen. The unfortuante thing is that plants/tree/flowers that budded and started to bloom in the temps near 70F are gonna get frost bite now and may not bloom at all. WOn't hurt our feelings any for the lilacs as we are both allergic to the scents.
Mr. B. we had about as much snow too. And the windows were frosted ont he minivan and car. I have a friend who is an orthodox priest and was raised in Arizona. He came here on assignment and mentioned once that Easter {theirs is slightly differing days form ours} Meant no more snow or winter. HAH! I told him. We have had snow ON Easter, or AFTER easter, not so unusual. He said no way! SO the first Easter party we went to with him at his house, it started to SNOW, I pointed that out and he was thoroughly disgusted to say the least! and that year their Easter was the weekend AFTER ours. SO it was still a LATE snow.
well, I'd best go make friends with the couch and see what is on TV or maybe go back to bed, as I didn't sleep well last nihgt. MOH meanwhile, took a heavby duty script pill for hip pain and zonked out at 4 until 3 am, so mMOH was up and raring to go when I wnated to sleep more!
Speaking of MOH's hip issue. it seems MOH's hip is "degenerating". Oh goodie. can you say hp replacement sometime in the future? Unfortuantely for the main job, MOH has to do a lot of walking with clients when they wnat to go and they are yoounger than MOH is. Go figure, Now way to favor the hip and stay off it much.
I am starting to wonder about my left hip too, as it gives me grief a lot too. So does my left knee. The hip is worse than the knee though. first thing they will tell me is to lose aobut 50-60 lbs. If only it were that easy! My rt hip has an excuse a tear in the labral lining. but it doesn't give me as much trouble as the left hip does. Only when walking a lot does it give me toruble. Lef thip seems to constantly pain me. dunno.
well, best go find out what is on TV.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
The changes in the weather have been goofy, but it is April, so it's not unusual. Last weekend it was in the 80's and this morning the low 20's. Yesterday afternoon it was in the mid 30's and snowing. Grass was turning white too. I noticed this morning that the daffodils and the tulips have been wiped out. I also noticed that the grass in the back yard needs cut. I'm going to look a little foolish cutting the grass while wearing gloves & earmuffs. The bad part of all this for me is that I simply don't adjust to these climate changes as well as I use too. Yesterday the knees, hips & back were all aching. Ain't old age wonderful.
We are having some relatives over for Easter dinner on Sunday. So cleaning the house will be on the agenda for the next couple of days. I would like to go railfanning on Saturday, so most of the cleaning needs to be done before then. If I don't get back in before, everyone have a nice holiday and stay safe.

Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup, some bacon, and lots of Seneca Lake Blend Fair Traded Dark Roast Coffee in the my R&GV RR mug please... What? No! Just the coffee in the mug, use a plate for the other things.... Sheesh......
Currently 26°F with sunshine and sn*w at the same time. Yep, here in the Finger lakes it does that in April.... The cold won't stay long as the thermometer is heading up to 40°F later today and by Friday it will be in the 60°'s again. I'll be glad when I can clean out the wood stove and the firewood rack for the summer!
I need to get ready for the gent arriving this afternoon to work on the layout so I will catch you all later!
Jeffrey, do take care of the foot well!!! We don't want you losing any more parts!

Galaxy, my father-in-law had a hip replacement when he was 85. He wanted it so he could get back out and keep playing tennis, which he did. He was apprehensive about it. Having had rotator cuff surgery myself, I encouraged him to get it done sooner, rather than later, because recovery time increases with age. Sure enough, when it came time to get the other hip done, he didn't have the same level of success. On the other hand, he's still walking around at 97.
I've lost about 25 pounds over the last 2 years. I'm not crash-dieting, just making small changes. I've found it makes sense to weigh myself to track my progress, but anything more often than once a week is just going to be discouraging (sometimes) and won't tell you anything more. The biggest changes are eating less bread and pasta. I'll still have a steak-and-cheese, but it's on a wrap rather than a big sub roll, and we eat more fresh fish than spaghetti for dinner. I also find that having good beer in the fridge (I like Harpoon IPA) causes me to have 1 or 2 beers instead of 4 or 5 less satisfying Buds. For me, a six-pack of those Lite beers would still have me going back for more.
I remember the snowstorm we had in May many years ago. It was only about 4 inches, and it melted quickly, but all the trees had their leaves, and the heavy, wet snow took down limbs and caused power outages all over the place. It took a week to get the neighboring town of Lexington back on line.

Good Evening!
It´s been a lovely day today, mostly sunny, but not to warm (16°C). It´s been also a busy day for me. There was a mile-long HD list from Petra to w*rk down, but I got only half of it done, as I had to urgently cross-read a translation the customer now wants to have by tomorrow, instead of by the end of May! Got that done, but it was 5 a 5 hours job, out of which I get paid only 3 hours. Nevertheless, the proceedings may buy me a Bachmann On30 0-4-2 Porter The rest of the HD list is scheduled for tomorrow...
Jeff - good to know you are home, but are being taken care of properly? If we were there, we´d do the shopping, house cleaning, laundry for you and Petra would cook a decent meal for you - as hot & spicy as you like! You know, friendship is about caring and it hurts me the two (three) of us live so far apart.
Dennis - I live in a country where we have laws to control vicious dogs. You need a license for certain dogs, classified as aggressive, like pit bulls. To get that license, you must prove that you are in command of your dog and necessary care is exercised. In your instance that dog would have been put down a long time ago. I have mixed feelings about this - it is usually not the animal´s fault, but it has to bear the conswquences out of the neglect.
Tomorrow will be busy again. Petra wants to have the house (apartment) ready for Easter. It´s my turn to wash the windows, wash the floor and clean the cupboards in the kitchen. How I like that
Well, I am off again - catching some rest.
CU tomorrow!
Extra strong coffee in a Chessie mug, please.
***J.R., had the wood stove going. Actually, it is still going. I don't like cold much. Just hope all the new fruit tree buds and blossoms will not be affected.

Went down to my fathers place to change the dressing on my foot since all the stuff to do it is there for the convenience of the Home Health nurse. I put my step mother to work as my assistant as she has some nursing experience. Working together we got the job done in about ten minutes.Did some looking around online and found two DH126D decoders for $30 and picked them up. I figure they should be here Monday.

Well,
Now that the light anesthetic {to reduce the painful feelings of needles the injections require while in proceedure} has worn off, the real trauma pain of what has been done sets in. Now I feel it for aobut 4 or 5 days.
I will be in some agony tomorrow as I have an appt at the psychiatrist and it requires sitting, driving, walking and sitting some more then I plan to stop by my fathers and sit some more. So I will be very sore tomorrow too! That may nto osund like much,. but is a lot of agony work for me. oh and somewhere in there I have to wor k in a trip to teh CU, though that could theoretically wiat til friday, no it can not...friday is GOOD FRIDAY, the CU is closed I think. Baash.
Tonights dinner is left over from last night so I don't have to cook, just heat n eat. I should check that to be sure MOH hasn't found it and eaten it!
I will be greatful for Friday and Saturday when I don't have much to do as I can rest and not do much. It's a nice excuse for not doing a dad blamed thing, but it is a painful way of getting it and the price of pain is higher than I'd really care to endure frequently..
MR.B: Oh, I know several people with replaced moving body parts and all were greatfu,l including my 92 y/o garden-active neighbor with his new knee, just replaced a year ago! I just hope MOH can get another year or two out of the natural one as we have to save the $2600 deductible, and save sick/vacation days as MOH only gets one week of each right now, and have money to pay the bills for the rest of recouperation while MOh heals. My hip is just mighty agrivating now, I don't think they will think aobut replacing it just yet...MOH's is degenerating, so it will deteriorate sooner or later. I know how it feels to have such aches and pains, so I can sympathize with MOH, but I don't have to live/walk all day on it either while working. MOH does. The good news is that except for maybe still being able to forcast the weather with it, it should give MOH relief. I think we will also incur some hotel bills as I think we have t o go to syracuse for that, or albany.and naturally I will be close by while MOH is operated on and rehab-ed, Sleeping in those lousy fold out chairs in the hospital roomn is not my idea of fun either! We will get by somehow and manage somehow when the time comes. For sure. If and when it comes my turn, MOH will continue working as I will insist and visit as often as schedule allows. Maybe then tehre will be extra holiday/vacation days MOH can take then. I am not counting this happening soon.
losing weight is a losing proposition for me. I have already made changes to a my diet, and maybe froom for improvemnet, but I have a breakfast, lunch and snack of about 300 calories each, {900}and a "sensible dinner" that is proportinal and "balanced" {about even at 500 would be wihtin reason}. If my sugar chooses to crash in there somewhere, though, I have to have another snack of some good carbs to boost it, though and there is no getting around that issue. Emergency Sucrose tabs don't have a long lasting effect, they will raise it quickly but not las t so long.
Back before we went to Hawaii some nearly a decade ago, and I had less of a belly then, and I could walk without a cane, i walked the 1 and 3/10th mile around the circle on thta "fast walking" excersize tidbit{4 times around} 3 times a day {almost exactly 4 miles total a day} to try to lose as well as diet as suggested. In the 8 months of doing this In all types of weather daily plus a few well thought out suggested floor excersizes, I lost exactly 0 lbs and gained 10. SO that is not working either. I'd join one of those "Judgement free zone" workout joints if I thought i could do it and it didn't cost so much. I can see me hobbling on my cane to the next stop, looking for a place to hang my cane nearby! I do tend to lose about 10 lbs in the sumer but gain it back in the winter, otherwise has been "stable" at that rate for the last 3-4 years. dunno what else to try. My Dr says I can't "be too hard on myself" as "limited mobiltiy is restrictive to the type of excersize that may be required to lose the excess weight". SO Nice of him to be so thoughtful!
*sigh* now I am depressed. GOod thing I see the psychiatrist tomorrow!
Well. gotta check some email andmove on
Have a great nihgt y'all.
Good Evening,
Today the city came and removed an elm tree from our front yard as it had Dutch Elm Disease. It was at least 50 years old and will be missed. We did have it injected regularly with a chemical that is supposed to reduce the chances of the tree getting the disease but I guess it is part of the 20% that don't make it even with the injections. Luckily we don't have to pay for the removal as the city will remove any diseased tree with or without your approval in their effort to try to control the spread of the disease. It would have cost at least a grand if we had to get a contractor to remove it. There are 3 large spruce trees in front so maybe they will do better with more sun and water.
Tomorrow morning I am taking the car in for an oil change and a few other minor things. The warranty runs out in a month but I don't think I will buy an extension as it will cost $2400 for 3 years. So far the car has been great and odds are that any manufacturing defect would have turned up by now. I'll be in the area of our LHS so I will stop in and pick up the order I placed a couple of weeks ago. More N scale buildings, a new station and a gas station.
I hope they can pop out a little dent in a door made a week or so ago by some oaf, likely in a SUV who swung open a door without any care. I hate parking lots.
Well hope everyone is well,
CN Charlie
I just got some bad news. My father has been taken to the ER after losing consciousness. Nobody knows yet what may be wrong. A CT scan failed to show any bleeding areas in the brain so a stroke has been ruled out for now. It's thought it may be some kind of palsy. He's being transported from the Fort Polk ER to St Francis Cabrini in Alexandria at this time. More news as I get it.
Evenin' folks!
Janie, just another cup of decaf, please.
Jeffrey, Sorry to hear about your dad being in the ER! Please know he is my prayers.... Hope you are doing well.
I had the NCE syystem installed this afternoon. Took less than 2 hours start to finish. Basically it was just unhook the Digitrax and plug in the NCE. He plugged in the Line lump transformer and turned it on and we immediately heard the air pumps on my Bachman 2 6 0 fire up. Called up it's number and she moved as soon as she got some throttle. One by one we checked out all the locos on that side of the layout. Also checked each of the hard wired RJ 12 thingies and they all worked. Didn't need to change out the cables as they are the same as what Digitrax uses. Then we found some AAA bateries and checked to see if the radio transmitter worked. It did! So tonight I changed out one cable and added another hard wired connection. I was using two Blocks (Districts) with the old Digitrax syatem, but for now at least I will be using just one district on the layout. I may split it up into several districts later and have them on the lightbulb thing... At the moment only the old portion of the layout runs trains as I need to put in a jumper to the other side of the layout to get it powered. Probably do that tomorrow.
Just got off the phone with my sister... She is not happy! A couple days ago... Well, I'll start from the beginning. Back when she was on her last trip to the "very far" (March) we had a big snow storm right after she left. One day while I was there, I noticed a city truck out at the end of her driveway and a lady city employee out with a shovel and bucket of salt. Clearing off the sidwalk way out at the street on her property.... I thought back then... Hmmmm.... I didn't even know she had a sidewalk out gthere as park by the side of her house on the side street when I am there. A couple days ago she got an $80 fine for having the city come and clear her sidewalk after someone complained..... She has called the DPW, and a city counselor and even talked to the Mayer who have all explained that the homeowner is responsible and the fact she was in Mexico at that time is not an acceptable excuse. So just pay the fine and get over it.... I told her I'm surprised the bill was that low! I also told her , "I don't do windows so....."
About time for me to close things down and head to bed. See you in the morning, and prayers for in need!
No further news so far. A CAT scan at Cabrini came up clear. There's no bleeding in his head. Still they're no closer to an answer than they were before.Life goes on for me. I have to change the dressing on my foot tomorrow morning. Got a doc appointment tomorrow afternoon. So far that's the only things on my schedule. The decoders are on their way. As far as I know the box of computer parts hasn't shipped yet. That's all for tonight. See y'all tomorrow.
Good Morning!
A nice day again! Got up early to w*rk down my HD list, so I´ll gain some MRRing time. The windows are washed, so is the floor. The kitchen cabinets will have to wait after Easter, as Petra will be in the kitchen all day long. Our son will be visiting us, so Mom is preparing all the goodies Dad rarely sees .
Right after I was done washing the floor, my friend called. He is at home and heas time to help me setting up the benchwork - that´s great news! But I will have to redo the floor once we are through with that
Jeff - that´s no good news. We have your Dad included in our prayers!
That lovely smell coming from the kitchen makes me hungry
Prayers to Flip, Jeff, Johnboy, Jeff´s Dad, Herrinchoker´s wife, Galaxy - not to forget Barry!
Have a great day!

Ulrich ... I'm glad you will being putting together your benchwork. I beleive we will see great model railorading on your layout.
V8 Dennis .... Regarding the vicious pit bull, there is a problem with city life. Laws won't let you do what we do in the country. If a vicious dog enters private property on our road, the property owner will end the life of the vicious dog. It really is better that way.
Anybody besides Ulrich working on their layouts or trains today or in the next few days? .... My 2-10-2 is still bad order because of the decoder problem. I'm thinking of putting a non-sound decoder in it to run it. If the problem is the engine, it will damage the substitute decoder too. However, I doubt the locomotive has a problem.
I have not done much with the layout extension I started a few months ago. I'm revising the track plan repeatedly until I finally start laying more track. I'm close to finalizing the plan, and I will start working on it some more.
Meanwhile, there is too much "other stuff". I'm helping my gardening wife put mulch in gardens. My truck was packed sky high with about 14 cubic yards of bagged mulch from the home improvemnt store.

Good morning. It's 53° with 88% humidity. The high will be 72°. Cloudy with a small chance of rain. with No news yet on my fathers condition. In a way at this point no news is good news. My stepmother however is about to worry herself into a fingernail chewing frenzy. My point of view is whatever happens happens. Nothing I say or do is going to change that. Sure I'm worried about him, I'd be crazy not to be but there's nothing I can do other than hope and pray he recovers from this. My worst fear though is that he may end up bedridden for the rest of his life however long or short that may be.I've decided to hold off on changing the dressing on my foot until after I've seen the doc. He's just going to unwrap it anyway. My DH126D decoders have started their journey from New Jersey. The box of computer parts has started out from Lawrence, New York.

This jolted my mind to a story I heard on NPR a few weeks ago, about maple syrup. While looking up the thing I thought was funny, it struck me that it might have been on April 1st, but no, this is real:
The Province of Quebec maintains a Strategic Maple Syrup Reserve.
(Here's my card, Zoe. And make sure everyone gets real maple syrup on their roast beef.)
Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Pumpkin Flax Seed Granola this mornin' and a cup of my Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee in a FLGK mug, please.
Rob, yes you can get color here at the site. Last time they downgraded the software (worst mess they have ever done. I still hate using it) they backed the technique required back to the 1980's. So for me to have your name in red, I have to use HTML Code. So your name is (I put a space in there so it would show) [ color=red ]Rob[ /color] and it will come out when you see it as Rob. They probably saved $5.50 by not turning on the easy coding for color..... They did however manage to make the space we can use on the page narrower again so they can try to make us work around more advertising.... Of course since I use an up to date version of Ad Block software, it is just an empty space on my computer. It was also nice of them to give us teeny tiny little text size to write out posts, probably hopeing we would keep them shorter because of it. O well. at least the site is free! And I do thank Kalmbach for providing it for us.
Sun is shining at the moment here in the Finger Lakes! Temperature is currently 40°F outside on its way up to 55°F this afternoon. I'm hoping my sister will seperate some of her Hostas this Spring so I will have some to plant by my fence I put in last Summer. Boy. am I exhausted!
But: Mission accomplished!
The two main segments are now securely attached to the wall and the mobile section sits on a kind of table, with casters on the legs. All I have to do ist unscrew to bolts and move it out of the way, if need be. It´s all cleaned up and tidy again. Petra, at first, was a little shocked how much space the layout eats up, but she will be getting used to it, she promised.
Here come the first pictures:
The wall mount I used:
It´s a heavy duty steel bracket, fastened with steel bolts. That is supposed to carry a load of 650 lbs. per pair, when mounted to a brick wall, which it is!
The chair underneath the layout will be moved to the attic, but I need to get something to cover it, before it goes up there.
I need to smooth the joints a little, but that I´ll do after the holidays - to maintain household piece

Good afternoon.
Ulrich ... The benchwork looks high quality, first class.
Lion ... Looking forward to pictures you mentioned. .... I think V8 Dennis has a pit bull to feed to your lions.
Jeff .... Praying your Dad is okay. Also, a heart problem can cause somebody to black out as I can attest. .. I hope that is not the situation with your Dad.
Well, its long about evening now.
I had several things to do and am wiped. Probably a nap is in short order! After my evening pain meds settle in to ease the pain. hte pain form the injections was not to bad this time, actually, of course I still have about 3 days of rest to get through. Every othe injection is a "deep injection" that gives more relief and the ohter injection is a "short injection" that is less results than tha deep. I got the deep one this time so maybe that explians less pain. and this morning an right now is the worst of it ..before I take the regual pain med.
mental heatlth appt was aobut setting goals for treatment fo the coming months. A change in med may also be in order.
Jeffrey, I hope they find what caused your father's incident so they can treat it.
Well, the ohter half won't be home till aobut 7 so I can go rest.
Well now, it's been an all around special day around here. First of all, it's my Wife and mine's 43 Anniversary! Can't beleive it. Lots of years and we are more in love than ever not to mention best friends. We've been fortunate to have found each other. Started as a blind date. How bout that.
The other big thing today is that we bought a brand NEW SUV, loaded to the 9's today. Paid cash too. No car payments. We haven't purchased a NEW vehicle since 1986 so that is part of the reason we could pay cash for it.
Pick it up on the 24th. It's going to be soooo nice not to be driving a pre owned vehicle with a warranty for the next 8 years.
Yup, we are a happy couple of old poops tonight.
Take care all and have a great Easter.
