Good morning everybody.

If you want to see some impressive HO modeling, look at the Russia in HO Scale thread in Trains forum.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and three eggs scrambled loose, bacon soft and hashbrowns please. Thanks.

Cold with sn*w on the ground.

I remember when Jeff first posted the finished baggage car. He got a few um….critiques on how it wasn’t prototypical and was way over done. Until that is, he showed the picture of the prototype. Mouths shut.Mischief Laugh

It’s sad when a particular breed of dog has gotten such a bad reputation world wide when it is the human input that caused it. Unfortunately this one can be particularly nasty by design and should not be taken lightly just because it has been gentle. Ididn’t mean to come across as sounding like they are to be dismissed as not an issue oh no. It takes a strong owner and a careful integration to other dogs especially males. Lots of dogs are that way towards other males, but should not wait until it gets older to find out how it will react. You could find out the answer real fast. Do to the abilities of this breed….not a dog for everyone.

A dangerous dog(animal) is a dangerous dog and needs to be dealt with as such. If a human had killed four times and attempted a fifthDead….And I love dogs.

Got the mighty sn*wblower out yesterday, one pull and she fired right upYes. Really not that much I needed it, but hey, since I got it might as well use it. UmmmmmConfused, went to town and ate at Fridays. Kinda tasty but I didn’t think they made chickens that small. Brenda said it was a rather small cornish hen. And the steak, well I’m not exaggerating when I say it was literally two normal bites. Three if you made it real polite bites. Brenda ate just her normal appetizer and some cheesy ball things that for four worked out to be a buck and a half a piece…Indifferent..anyway, the damage was $50 and I’m not sure we’ll be knocking down the doors of this place soon. Could have gone Chinese, got stuffed and not cost neeeear that much. Nope, no Chinese this weekendSigh. Might have to double my weekly visits if this keeps upLaugh. Then we went to this place called Gordman’s that I’d truly rather take a beating than go back there. Brenda shopped, I grumbled about how packed everything was in there and that whoever’s bright idea it was to have shopping carts in there should be punched in the face. Then to a well known shopping club for the Prime rib roast for Christmas dinnerDinner. Brenda disappears and shows up with her Godzilla movie packBang Head. I had to reveal that was one of her gifts, so now…, I have to find another somethingBang Head Bang Head. You see? I told you my planned Christmas shopping was over. She does something similar every year.I can’t just ignore it because then she will say after opening gifts, “but I already knew what they were.” Kinda why Christmas has sorta left my spirit. It’s more like what they get and not that they get something. Don’t know maybe it’s me. Mr Scrooge. But every year it bothers me moreSigh. AAAAnywho…, they handed out some horrible drink that I took a swig of and liked to gagged. Judging by the amount of full cans of this stuff stashed on various shelves throughout the store, I wasn’t the only one who had that opinion. (whew boy) I don’t think the company will keep making this stuff for long. THEN I did it. I pointed out that this place is NOT as economical as they want you to believe. Some things yes, but do the math for many. X brand bread Club price 2 for $3.88. Works out $1.94 per loaf right? Right. Grocery store price….$1.48 a loaf. I finally complained enough for her to interrupt me just as I was saying “and take this for instance” and say “let’s just go”… Mission accomplishedMischief Yes. Oh yah.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning. It's 35° with 92% humidity. The high will be 52° with some clouds.

Put my leg on this morning, put my weight on it and instant pain! Something was wrong. Seems my stump has shrunk up a bit more. I put on one of the socks that was provided and that seems to have fixed things for now. Don't know if I'll do any work on Oliver's adventure. That depends on what else happens today. Later I may see if I can get out to the shop and see if I can find any of my tools out there. I brought quite a few of them down here before I went to the hospital. Hopefully they weren't thrown away. That would be a big expense if they were.

morning coffee..

GOOD SUNDAY MORNING!

Today is Sunday,

December 15th, 2013!

The prayer candles are lighted, one for Johnboy-out-for his mental sanity and physical health; one for Ulrich as his heart to heal; one for Jeffrey {he could use some as he adjusts to his new leg}; one for those who have recently passed; one for those who are not mentioned here but have the need; and one for world peace...

No funny limerick, no wise old sage wisdom imparted, just a good old fashioned "hello"...

...I need to find new material...

'Bout midnight here.  Being done with work for the year has caused me to revert to what I suspect is my "natural" sleep cycle, staying up until after midnight and sleeping late.  Right now, I'm watching the snow come down outside.  It looks like we've got 6 inches or so already, with the heaviest still to come.  Don't worry about us New England folk, though.  We get a couple of these a year, and having it on a weekend makes it one of the no-problem storms.  The world will be dug out by Sunday night.

SWMBO stopped in at Whole Paycheck, the hi-falutin' organic market.  They had giant crab legs for $9.99 a pound, so that was our dinner.  Easy to prepare and yummy, and probably not good for you at all after you dip each bite in melted butter.

Ray, you are one dedicated man, going out in the snow to do a train show.

Johnboy, keep taking an interest in what they're doing to you.  Some years ago, I had rotator cuff surgery to repair some damage I did to myself skiing.  No fun, I assure you, but I prefer to look on stuff like that as being in a real-world episode of M.A.S.H.  It's certainly not comfortable, but damn, it sure is interesting.

Today (or rather, yesterday, since it's not today anymore after midnight) I got a bit of modeling done.  I finished up those pesky brick parapets on the tannery, and then started on the tall water tower.  It's a nice model, but there are all these struts and braces, and it's hard to keep them aligned during assembly so that everything stands straight.  I just finished the last of the plastic pieces, and I'm going to let all the glue set up hard overnight before I start on the wire cross-pieces.  SWMBO's list grows every couple of hours, though, so my time may be short.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Jeffrey, sounds like you are limpin' around pretty well already! Good!

Yeah, with emphasis on the 'limp'.

*

Still got the leg on after putting new powder in six hours ago and it's still feeling good. The only time I feel any pain is when I stand up. It's just a little twinge on the left side of my knee.

No work on Oliver's adventure today.

We've got quite a bit of wind blowing through down here. Sounds like it's gusting about 25mph from the northwest. Forecast says 32° tonight. Did somebody leave the door open up north? Y'all might wanna kick it shut.

Time to shut this thing down and head for the bed. See y'all tomorrow.

Snow, Snow, Wonderful Snow...  (not)

Janie, a refil on the decaf please....

The snow machine has cranked up pretty good at the moment here in the Finger Lakes.  It is mostly falling sideways which is not a good thing as that means it will be drifting good and deep in all the wrong spots.  The local DPW sent the plow down my street an hour ago to fill in all the driveways in the neighborhood.

... WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM EST SUNDAY...

* LOCATIONS... ORLEANS... GENESEE... WYOMING... MONROE... LIVINGSTON... ONTARIO... WAYNE... AND NORTHERN CAYUGA COUNTIES.

* TIMING... THROUGH LATE SUNDAY MORNING.

* HAZARDS... PERIODS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW.

* ACCUMULATIONS... 4 TO 7 INCHES TONIGHT AND AN INCH OR LESS SUNDAY.

* VISIBILITIES... AS LOW AS A QUARTER MILE AT TIMES.

* IMPACTS... TRAVEL WILL BECOME MORE DIFFICULT THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT... WITH SNOW COVERED ROADS AND POOR VISIBILITY. THIS INCLUDES THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY.

Garry...  Thank you sir!  I am starting to enjoy and look forward to completing the project now.  Guess I have gotten to the point where I know I can succeed with it.

Galaxy, you might enjoy this...  The other day when I helped my sister get her Christmas Tree, the garden store where she got it had a small display of NYS Grade A Maple Syrup.  I found a dark amber bottle, picked it up and read the label expecting it might say produced in South Carolina or sumpin', when what do I see?  It says made in Newark Valley, NY!  I look at the owner of the store (a student way back when of my sister), hold the bottle up, put on my best Southern Tier hillbilly accent, and say, "Maple Syrup from Newark Valley???  They ain't got no Maple trees down there!  Them's all Oaks in that place!  Then I told him I once taught in Waverly,NY and one of my Student Teachers ended up teaching Music in Newark Valley.  He had no idea where the place was, so I gave him the business... Figuratively and literally.... I bought the bottle..... Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh

Jeffrey, sounds like you are limpin' around pretty well already!  Good!

Cars...  even the Foe Wheeeeel Drahv, are moving around rather slow at the moment.  Probably we will get the snowmobiles, and off road stuff roaring down the street soon....

Stay safe and warm!

Went to Wal-Mart today to do some grocery shopping and give the leg some 'road time'. It felt good to walk from the car to store and vice versa. While in the store I did the smart thing and got a ride-on cart. No way am I up for that much walking. Boy the store was packed but I was able to get everything I went there for. We came back home and I carried my own groceries for the first time in five months. After all that I took the leg off, wiped out the inside of the socket and applied some Gold Bond body powder to it and stuck it back on. I got the extra strength triple action stuff. It's mostly talc. It also has menthol so I shouldn't have an itch there and it has zinc oxide as a skin Protectant. It feels better now than it did with the corn starch baby powder. I've had the leg on most of the day and it's hardly noticeable. Just when I stand up as the joint passes about 40-45° there's a little pain.

snow snow snow...we are in the middle of it

Johnboy- GOOD to see you! They say "trials and tribulations will make one stronger"..so you must be getting stronger! DO keep us posted! That is a nasty disease you are battling, but as said, if you let it win, it wins every time, so Fight!

Ulrich- With your heart problems {i have a few minor ones myself} you are on the prayer list too!

Actually MOH switched us to a prayer oil lamp..so many candles were a problem, so one lighted lamp, reminiscent of days of old with oil lamps for prayers for all!

Got a call form a real estate agent in Hawaii. He said I had visited his site? Perhaps while perusing and nosing around and the wishful thinking of "retiring there". I told him to send me an email i'd be happy to explain as his cell phone was none to clear..I think the pacific ocean breezes were blowing across his microphone. I sure wish we were there now! CANNOT WAIT TO GET BACK THERE.

Johnboy's comment about the candle costs ring true! The lamp burns a lot of oil, so not much cheaper. what will have to do is switch to votive candles which last longer. A prayer candle is any candle {usaully a long tapered one} that one says the morning prayers over. cheap candles do as cheap candles do.

Well, now that my longing for Hawaii has been rekindled...shoked mOH who kept asking the man's purpose in asking fo me, then finally handed it over to me..I was shocked I think i visited "his site" 2 years ago?

Well, Suze is on in about 45 mins, so I best go and tend to the lamp. Time to take it down for the night.

Angel Prayers and healing thoughts for those who need them and for those who don't think they do!Angel

Just a soimple greeting in the morning, no fancy stuff.

TIred and bedragled

Evenin Folks!

Chloe, could I get a big bowl of cream of mushroom soup, some oyster crakers, and a toasted cheese sandwich with one of those dill pickles too....  Oh, a cup of hot decaf coffe would be great.  What?  Yes, i am chilled to the bone....  Long interesting day!

This morning bright and early I went outside into the 7°F air to brush the 2" of "Partly Cloudy" we got overnight from something we call "Lake Effect" off the PiP so I could drive 50+ miles from my house to Rochester, NY on the New York State Thruway skating rink to go to a Train Show at RIT... Having cleared all the partly cloudy off the PiP I got into the 7°F interior of the car and pushed the little round "Power" button. The ICE was running before I took my finger off the "Power" button. I thought it was because I didn't turn the Cabin Air System off after I drove it home in 12°F temps last night. Nope everything was off except the ICE. Didn't mind a bit either.

It was nice to have heat in the car and I didn't care if I was burning Fossilized Dinosaur Dung and giving $$$ to the Fossil fuel Industry! When it is 7°F outside (and inside the car) I don't mind at all.... By the time I got home from the show my driveway now has 4" of "Partly Cloudy" from the "Lake Effect". But that they say will change as a plain old Winter storm will take over and dump 7 to 10" of the white stuff in my driveway by the time I need to drive back to Rochester for the second day of the Train Show tomorrow! I expect the ICE to start right up and get me warmer than 7°F as soon as I press "Power" again tomorrow! Of course driving 55 mph on the 65 mph Thruway and only getting 46mpg isn't great either..... There were folks doing faster with them Foe Wheeeeeel Drahves! Yippy!!! Hey, Yall, Watch Theeeis vehicles. There were a bunch of them there things off the road in the ditch, there were. Pip drove great and handled the "Partly Cloudy" with no problems. And... I was going as fast as the Big Rigs were too (they evidently like to drive on the road and not in the ditch also!).

Johnboy!  Good to see you in here.  Know you will have my prayers for as long as it takes for you to recover from this ordeal...

Jeffrey, hope the leg gets feeling more and more comfortable as you get used to it and they make tweaks to it for you.

I took the Blacksmith's Shop with me to finish a bit of highlighting on the 3 sides awaiting windows and doors.  Spread them out on the table for people to see while I worked on the remaining sides.  My good friend who did the drawings for me and went and checked measurements and such on the building hadn't seen the walls in person yet.  I gave him the front wall with the door to check out.  He took one look, just beamed and grinned from ear to ear, looked at me and said, "Ray, that is amazing modeling!"  That really made my day!  This is one of the truly great modelers in the world, well known author, and MMR.  His words made me feel very good about what I have done so far...  At some point I will tell you who it is (Maybe several months from now and by then you may already know).  Can't say any more right now...  One other gentleman who is a local Railroad Historian, author, and historical speaker about RRs in my area, stopped by the table and said hi.  He looked at the walls, I said it will be an octogon Blacksmith's Shop...  He stopped me and said, "I know that building!  That's the one in Alloway, NY, built in 1832, and started tell more history about it...  He too said it was an amazing likeness and wants to see it went it is finished.  Glad I went to the show...Smile, Wink & Grin

I have the wood stove lit and the house is warming up!  Guess I'll go enjoy the soup and sandwich!

Later!

Just a quick visit before I hit the hay.

Johnboy - good to see you here. Our prayers for you will continue. I know pretty well what is ahead of you. O have benn through that 32 years ago. The docs must have done a darn good job back then...

Right now I can´t say I am kicking. I am utterly exhausted - way too much has happened this year for me to shoulder it. I knew that one day I´d be paying a price for it but didn´t expect that day to come so soon.

Well, off I am!

Good Night, everybody!

Whistling

Hi Gang, hope your week-end is going well.

Chloe, a double RBF and some scrambled eggs, that should go down OK.

I tried twice a couple of days ago to post here, once on the forum itself and a second time from a note pad and both times when I hit post they both dissappeared and have not been found. I took this to mean I wasn't to post at that time and in well pronounced pear shape tone I just said SCREW IT.. Hope this works today.

I am very weary from all the tests, scans, biopsies, etc etc. I now am gumming it as my teeth were taken to parts unknown last Monday and I got to use the stomach feeding tube for a couple of days, but now I am back to eating by mouth although some things have to be spun through the blender.

They say that I will want to use the feeding tube after a couple of weeks of radiation. The radiation will be concentrated between my eyes, my throat, the back of my tongue and down the sides of my neck for the lymph nodes. They said yesterday after another biopsy that they thought that the thyroid was clear and I am sure hoping that is the case.  I will know when that will begin when I meet with my Doctor Team at the Cancer Clinic next Thursday. They will then fill me in on all the details of my treatment and schedule, right now it is just a vague idea that was passed by us a couple of weeks ago in answer to a question.

I got the Wooden train set up built for my Grandson's Christmas present, I think for right now we will keep it here in the basement not far from Papa's layout. I am eager to see how he reacts over it at Christmas.

Haven't done much with the LM&E lately, too tired after all the running around medical wise. But hope to get into it soon again as I won't be moving much snow or other Honey-Dos for quite a while, so if I feel up to it I can really jusify spending more time there. Lately I've run trains when Solomon comes over( Grandson) and he is fastinated with it.

I really thank Garry and Cape Jim for keeping check on me, and want to thank all other who have been so kind with well wishes, kind thoughts and prayer candles. I think we should take up a collection for Galaxy as he has been burning so many candles he is probably supporting that with his pension money. He might never get to Hawaii at this rate, at least until most of us get back on our feet again. ( Way to go Jeff, stand tall and proud).

Well I have rambled on here, but before I close I want to apologise for any birthdays or anniversaries that I have missed and sincere condolences to those with losses in their families in the past while. And also your Dog, V8 Vega, do file a form on him just in case it happens again to someone. It should be documented.

ULRICH, I have had concerns about you since you entered the political arena.

I know of your dedication but your health was a serious concern. Please take care of it now that you have the time.

hello

we have about 5 inches now. Looked like 3, but felt like four, is five i guess, so...awatiing more as we are in NO WAY done with it according to the radar.

I wonder if there will be mail today. They no longer have to deliver if in bad weather, i understand.

The Gr caravan is now home safe, passed safety  inspection and apparently doesn't even need the tires we thought it might! excellent news! Even the frame is in good shape {the body another matter they rust out from the inside out according to one body guy}. So my prayers here were answered.

SPeaking of prayers, I haven't mentioned it but we still have a prayer candle for Johnoboy {last mountain & easten hogger}; and for Ulrich;  and prayers for others in need, as well as the elusive prayer- for world peace. May healing hands and healing hearts mend

well, I hope all you in the path of the storm are and remain safe! It looks like it has GROWN from last night's satellite!

Those of you who HAD storms dumping snow did NOT have to "Share" with us!

Friday is RAIN AND 40f, makes me wonder of flooding! Thre is ice on the river, and rain will help melt the snow!

they say the global wrming is cooling down now? we are to enter a "new ice age"? Maybe so?

Even Hawaii's temps have apparently cooled down? I know when we were there we were at the Dole Pineaple plantation and it was a miserable 67*F!!! Daytime! IN FEb! SO much for their "average of constant 80F"!  It is 76F 24 C there now at about 10:30 AM their time! Nice fair day it says. It is 79F in Honolulu and expected high of 82F. To be fair, the DOLE is at a higher elevation than Waikiki and Honolulu. Oh how my heart longs to be there, Broken Heart someday maybe...

I digreess... Now to deal with some snow fall MusicBack to life, back to reality Music The plow is coming around again.

have a safe night those in the snow belt!

Afternoon, Flo - I'll have a bowl of chili with some grated cheese and a little diced onion bits in it, plus some of those 'oyster crackers' and a RBF, please. Thank you!

Ray, it sounds like you had an.. interesting time at your sister’s with the tree trip and all THAT... Will she expect you to come back to help take it down after 12th Night or so (but hopefully, avoiding being called back to re-position said tree in the meantime)? Whistling

V8Dennis - I hope you and your dogs have an alternate route for walking (away from the neighbor with the Pit Bull). I’d agree with the others about getting that complaint form filled out. And don’t calculate or put any compensation/vet bill pay from your neighbor into your budget just yet. Oops

Galaxy, I’ll try to chime in more often, but my voice just doesn’t carry well inside from the drive-by window... Smile, Wink & Grin Oh, and you probably don’t want to get me going about those e-devices and their (digital?) idea of ‘spelling auto-correction’ - even though I own a couple of those ‘e-devices’... (Yeah, HA!!) Which gets me thinking - if they’re so smart, what are digital ‘thoughts’ like? Hmm....Huh? (Texting? What’s that? - I am one of only two guys in our men’s group at church who doesn’t get texts from our leader. The other guy’s entry on the group says - under ‘Texts’: NO, NO, and NO again!!) Laugh

Karl - hope things went well for your SWMBO-birthday & Friday 13th!

Todd: loved your comment to Ray ("Do you ever get the urge to ask…just how long is a “few minutes”?"WhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin

Ulrich - I will keep Reister’s wife on my prayer list (and your health). Cute little seaport layout - Is a switcher light enough to go onto the dock, or will you need several 'spacer' cars in front of it?

Ray - I only will say that phrase that (I suspect) is dreaded around your area: “Lake effect warning”....Whistling

And those of you up in the Northeast (Ray, Galaxy, JR, Mr. Beasley, & others) - don’tcha just LOVE how precise the weatherguessers are when it comes to that fluffy-white stuff? (How about if they gave the forecasts in REAL-world terms, such as):
0) “We’ll probably see a run at the stores on milk and bread...”
1) “Might need your sn*w shovel today.”
2) “Better park the vehicle on the street” (except in cities where they have no-parking routes in bad weather...)
3) “Time to fire up the sn*w blower.”
4) “Better bring in the small dogs/cats tonight...”
5) “Best get those logs in the house for the fireplace, and stock up the cupboards.”
6) “Got enough fuel for your generator?”
7) “If you don’t have your plane tickets for Arizona, it’s too late now...”

- And what’s with the naming winter storms? Are they afraid the winter storms/storm gods will have their feelings hurt because the hurricanes get names & they don't? Sheesh! (Somebody at the national weather services must’ve had too much spare time on their hands, I suppose)

Oh yeah, just for fun (and because I could afford to not win) last night I got a few tickets for the Mega-milions. Got mega-sqaut... Sigh Little ventured, nothing gained. Smile, Wink & Grin Besides, our pastor (who isn’t that keen on that form on ‘entertainment’ always says that if one of us wins, he expects us to tithe on our winnings. WinkWhistling

Galaxy - that one explanation for ‘pure’ probably would’ve been better if I hadn’t been reading it just after I had lunch...Dead

Jeremy - that light stuff seems to be what gets blown around by the least little breeze, so it may re-arrange itself no matter where you shovel it off to.

Around here, we're above freezing for a fair chunk of today, so I'm hoping that all the sun and warmer temps will melt off the remaining ice-pack in my apartment parking lot (and the one at w**k...).

Hoping that I will actually get the lights on my little tree in the apartment. The tree's been up since the weekend after Thanksgiving, but I haven't taken the time to get the lights and ornaments on it yet. Nor are my stockings put up yet.

May all of you Diners have some MRR'ing time today! And prayers for all those who need 'em (likely most of us and those we know), including  for Jeffrey and Johnboy, V8Vega's dog, and others needing healing.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Good morning and best wishes to all!

It's supposed to start snowing shortly here in Massachusetts.  The forecasts are all over the place, but we are in the 6-12 inch belt on the Weather Channel web site.  I've got plenty of kits, glue and paint, so if we get snowed in I won't be bored.

Nice to see you up and walking again, Jeff.  It's been a long time, but you made the right call.

I hope Johnboy is doing well.

*

Good morning. It's 54° with 97% humidity and patchy drizzle. The high will be 60°.

Not much going on today. Don't really feel like working on the computer today. This afternoon my father and I will be going to Wal-Mart to do some grocery shopping. Gold Bond powder is on the list. I should be able to walk from the car to the store without too much of a problem as long as I use my cane. It feels like I need a pad in the front of the socket though as I can feel some pain on the front of my knee.

Seems that embedding a video into a post does not work any longer, so here is a link, if you are interested:

The Grand Caravan is in the shop for annual inspection. Since they haven't called yet, MIGHT be a good sign, or they haven't gotten to it yet for its appt, which was 2 hours ago. I will call in a bit to see what is up.

Good Morning Folks!

Quite cold outside, just a notch below freezing. May not be much for you folks NOB and just SOB, but for us  this feels like arctic temperatures. Actually, I don´t mind cold weather, as long as it stays dry. But here it is usuakky wet n´windy to go with it.

I am spending a considerable amount of time searching for ideas on how to build a layout with no money and no space. It must be fully portable, highly detailed, eye candy to see and somehow realistic, not toy-like. And just attempting to square a circle, in a large scale. Anybody any ideas?

Found a nice little vid on youtube on a layout in a suitcase, built by a Swiss guy with the precision of a Swiss watch. It´s tiny, just a little under 15" by 18". Quite small for a G scale layout!

But see for yourself:

(I hope this works with the new forum software...)

Edit: No - it does not work, so here is a pic of this cute little layout:

V8Vega - In Germany, keeping a pitbull is limited to a limited number of trained people, having a license to keep "dangerous" dogs. We had so many incidents when dogs attacked or even killed children that this law passed in no time at all. In your case, that man has proven he is not able to control his dog. Report him to the police - you´ll be doing your community a big favor!

Continuing prayers for JohnboyAngel

Make it a great weekend!

V8Vega!

I'm sorry but I have to repeat what others have already said. Report the pit bull to the police and get it put down before it hurts or kills something (or somebody!!) else. I am an animal lover big time! I hate to see any animal mistreated. However, somebody has created a monster here, likely just to feed their ego, and now it has a taste for blood. Do you really want to be the person who didn't act in a timely manner when you read in the paper that the same dog just tore the face off a young child? Yes I'm putting some pressure on but I have a good friend who bears the scars of a dog attack from when she was a child. Please! Wake up and do your civic duty!

Enough said. Sorry for the rant. Angry

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

PC is still kicking.

Some snow fell last night ( not part of the storm ) its the really light fluffy stuff. The kind you can shovel and it not bother you. I dont know if I will just leave it as it wont add to the stuff that will come to the storm later on. I will continue work on my layout today during the storm. I will probably end up at the mom and dads tonight and then go to my grandmas around the corner to shovel, or just wait until the morning to get at it. Any which case there is going to be some shoveling in my future, lol. But I guess some layout time will be good too. Im getting another canker sore on the inside of my lip so that is frustrating me a bit too, lol. I always get them at christmas, lol. I guess from the stress of it.

Check back in later fols, wether it be on this PC or the phone or the wifes laptop

morning coffee in the diner..

GOOD STURDAY MORNING!

Today is Saturday,

December 14th, 2013!

In honor of our getting sn*w following those who already got sn*w, I figured we'd examine:

"Pure as the driven sn*w"

Meaning: entirely pure

'Driven snow' is snow that has blown into drifts and is untrodded and clean. Examples of the precise text 'as pure as [the] driven snow' aren't found in print until around the start of the 19th century. Nevertheless, we have to thank Shakespeare for this popular simile. The complete phrase 'as pure as the driven snow' doesn't appear in Shakespeare's writing, but it almost does, and he used snow as a symbol for purity and whiteness in several plays. In The Winter's Tale, 1611:

Autolycus: Lawn as white as driven snow.

In Macbeth, 1605:

Malcolm: Black Macbeth will seem as pure as snow.

Of course, the tradition of brides wearing white in many cultures stems from the association between the colour and purity. This was referred to as early as the 1400s, as in John Lydgate's poetry for example, circa 1435:

Alle cladde in white, in tokne off clennesse, Lyche pure virgynes.

An alternative derivation of this simile has been proposed that originates from an altogether different source. Mediaeval tanners used animal faeces in the leather tanning process - specifically dogs' droppings, to which they gave the incongruous name 'pure'. Some have speculated that 'pure' referred to the white form of the said stools that used to be more commonly seen and that 'as pure as the driven snow' comes from that association. It doesn't; the 'pure' name came from the purification of the raw leather caused by the enzymes present in the excrement and has nothing to do with 'as pure as driven snow'.

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

I did a little work on Oliver's adventure today. Mostly adding some detail to the dialog that's displayed.

In the battle with the prosthesis I believe I found the answer. Baby powder. I sprinkled some on the inside and outside of the gel liner (goes between the stump and the socket), in the socket where the liner encased stump goes, being especially careful to get it on the part that's been bugging me. I also put some on the inner surface of the sleeve. The sleeve is a rubber tube that's rolled onto the prosthesis and the unrolled up over the knee and onto the thigh. It locks the prosthesis and leg together as a unit. They don't come apart easily. Now the liner, sleeve and socket can all slide against each other a little and still do their respective jobs and it feels much better. I've had the leg on for three hours and I hardly notice it. I've even been walking around on it a little and it feels all right. I can feel the pressure from my weight (240 pounds) bearing down on it but I don't have the pain I had earlier. Looks like the powder is the answer. A while back somebody said Gold Bond powder worked best, so when I can get some I'll give it a try.

Time to call it a night. I'll see y'all tomorrow.
