Good morning. It's 44° with 89% humidity. The high will be 65° and feel like 68°.No plans set in stone today. I may get some work in on Oliver's adventure. I think he's all the fun he's going to have in the passenger car. Time to move him on to the baggage car. You know even when a train is dead-heading it can be transporting something of value. So far Oliver has been finding keys, killers, thieves and a bunch of surprises. Who knows what may be lurking in the baggage car? Could it be something interesting? Possibly. Could it be something dangerous? Quite likely. Could Oliver be excited about finding it? Don't bet on it.The disk drive emulator I ordered on 12/08 has made it's way from Bulgaria, landed in New York and is now on it's way cross-country to my location. I estimate it'll arrive on the 20th or maybe a few days later even though the USPS estimate is from the 20th to as late as January 8th.I've already gotten a little walking practice in this morning. I intend to get some more later.

Good Mornin everyone!!
Coffee Flo please, in a big mug, mebbe even a beer stein if you can,,,I need all I can get right now.
See, Swmbo went to bed last night at 11, of course, I said "be right up Dear". Then at 2 a.m. I finally made it upstairs. I WAS just going to just check my parts for the decoder installs I had planned for today. (2 Atlas S2s) I wound up doing them both, programming them, then "testing" them out for a bit!
I see we are back on the weather roller coaster again. We had a dusting of snow last night. Rain today and 39 degrees, down to 34 tomorrow, then 45 Thurs, 54 Friday, and 59 Saturday! 66 Sunday then downhill next week! Ai carumba!
Now what am I going to get into today??
Karl
NCE über alles!
It is a cool -2*F here {or 6*F, or 4*F depending on who you believe}
I'll bet Ray's wood stove is cranking out the heat!
We have the "pipes dripping" to keep from frozen pipes. {I know its the FAUCETS dripping, but "drip the pipes" is how it comes out}
I know it is coldER in other places, but this is the first so low in the season here. You can keep it, thank you!
I'll bet Jeffrey has a cooler spell down his way too.
My old bones are not handling the frigid digits well. Especially my knees.
Oh, Hawaii, my heart longs to be there, BUT thay have had some serious flooding there lately too, so they are NOT exempt form strange weather! It is currently 65*F at the Dole plantation{11pm}, and a low of 67*F in Honolulu. But tomorrow's high? 82*F with plenty of sunshine! {with a low of 66*F}. I'll TAKE IT! Speaking of Hawaii, my order finally came from Hawaii. Maybe not next year, but the following year we should be able to go.
But here we have 37*F, 43, 48, 52 COMING! {Thurs-Sat}. Now wiht teh rian to accompany those temps, adn the river ice and the melting snow, watch us have flooding! Can't win for losing!
Have a safe Warm day, y'all!

Didn't get anything done on Oliver's adventure today. I was too busy doing other things. Practicing my walking, wrapping gifts, practicing going up and down a step. I was all right as long as I remembered to step down with my right foot (fake one). If I stepped down first with the left the right leg didn't like it. Going up the step, I could do that leading with the left or right. It was easiest if I stood on the right and stepped up with the left then brought the right up then repeated it. When my right leg gets stronger it should get easier. On my walking, I can do it unassisted but I'm unsteady. More like stagger around like a drunk horse! It's much easier with a cane so that's what I'm using. On the gift wrapping, I'm not good at it so I took my time. I took nearly an hour to wrap two DVD's, a manicure/pedicure station and a 1/25 Nascar Monte Carlo model kit. They actually look pretty good.
Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

RAY: it is COLD here, but a tad, just a tad warmer than you guys further North in the "Arctic".
We have been dripping the pipes most every day since mid-NOV, and according to long term forecasts, may have to most of Jan-Mar too!
It will be 38, 40, 36 in a few days, WITH RAIN. I HOPE that doesn't lead to flooding!
Evenin' folks!
Janie, hot decaf coffee please... I'll be having a seat in the back near the wood stove to stay warm!
Warm? Not here in the Finger Lakes tonight! Currently -1°F outside. I have the wood stove cranking out heat and will leave the gas space heater on low down cellar in the train room. One cat is sleeping right by the warm air register here in the dining room, and the other is is sleeping on the bed in the bedroom.
Galaxy, hope your a bit warmer where you are or have the water dripping to keep the pipes from freezing!
Catch you all later!

French roast coffee in a SUNNY SOUTHERN mug, please.
***Karl, nice layout pic!
***Ray, I never use an alarm clock anymore. My cat Millie jumps back and forth over my head when she wants to go outside (back screened porch) which is usually before sunrise. Storm Cat just scratches at the door and sometimes meows, too. Fortunately, I can reach that door from the bed when I am trying to sleep in. They only come in at night now anyway.
Trying to get a couple RC planes ready to fly this Wed. Will be only the second chance I've had in about two months, due to weather and/or just not having the energy for it. I have more problems with the electronics in those planes. Looking forward to working on the layout, hopefully before to much longer.
Have a good day all. Rob
kbkchoochUlrich With what you can fit into those micro layouts, I shudder to think what you could pull off in a full basement! Wink
Karl - a basement filling layout is much more difficult to plan than a micro layout. These small layouts force you to concentrate on one scene, but big layouts need a plausible arrangement of scenes (or LDE´s = Layout Design Elements).
Here are a few examples of what I did in the past:
1. A layout idea for Cudaken
One of my "early designs" with a lot of elements "borrowed" fromn Pelle Soeborg
2. A layout idea for Robby P.
3. A small narrow gauge Swiss style layout for a friend of mine in Switzerland (he is actually building this one)
4. An idea I developed for myself (lack of money prevented this one from being built)
... and a last one for my MRR pal here in Germany
The most difficult layout type to design, IMHO" ist that classic 4 by 8, or any table type layout. It´s not the track arrangement, it´s to come up with a real looking scenery, which makes it difficult to design, especially when you plan on having a mult-level layout.
This is one I did, just for fun:
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes with NYS, Maple Syrup, and a pot of dark roast Seneca Lake Blend coffee this morning.
It is currently 20°F outside here in the Finger Lakes at the moment with a predicted high of 19°F sometime today. Yup! That's what the weather people say.... There is something called sunshine out there at the moment an IO shall head out to begine unburying the solar panels in a bit to see if they will fire up, clear off and produce a bit of electrical current today. Last 2 days have been nothing, zip, nil, nada... Well, yesterday it produced .018 of a kWh... Whoopie!
Rob and Todd... OK the alarm isn't actually 130dB. Feels like it when you are right next to it, but not loud enough to cause injury. When it goes off, the first thing I feel is two cats extiting off the bed for parts unknown though. These two are very communitive with me and do let me know if something isn't right around the house. They seem to know that "Daddy" will make it right.
Jeffrey, sounds like you and the leg are becoming friends...
I need to get a wash going and get to cleaning off the roof.
Later!
Hi Gang
Flo, nothin for me right now. I started feeling better yesterday,, but I fell like its one step forward, 2 steps back.
The nose that was running like a faucet for the last 4 days now feels like its full of Elmers Wood Glue, and now my ears are buggin me. So no plans for any activities today.
Galaxy, that VW prbably wont meet Federal Crash guidelines, thats why its Europe only. AT 1700 pounds, its no wonder. Even the Yugo wieghed more! (about 100 lbs)
Jeffrey,,, Glad to hear you are working out the leg issues
Ulrich With what you can fit into those micro layouts, I shudder to think what you could pull off in a full basement!
Gonna lay down for a bit, Catch ya later
Good Afternoon Folks!
We are having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave ...
South-westerly winds brought us some warm weather, temperatures were at 10 °C today, making me feel dizzy all day long.
An uneventful day, I am glad it was. I could sleep all day, have hard time to stay awake, only to get some sleep at night.
I spent some time "painting" another layout idea - a large scale layout in a suitcase, inspired by the video I posted the other day.
I should have enough plans to publish a book by now
Have a great week!
Goo morning. It's 35.5° (seriously, that's what the display says) with 96% humidity. The high will be 62° and feel like 66°.The leg is feeling good this morning. I just have to remember to straighten that knee before I put my weight on it. Didn't do that this morning and almost ended up doing the splits. Last time I did that was when we lived in El Paso. Who would believe that it could snow there? I was nine years old then. Landing in the split position on snow and ice was a memorable experience then and it definitely would be now on a marble tile floor forty-four years later.I plan to get some work done on Oliver's adventure. Maybe I can get him into the baggage car today. It's my intent to get some walking time in today. I've already done some this morning.

***Jim, all the critters are doing well presently. No snow or ice here, just an over abundance of rain. The ol' farm is a mud fest. Nothing on the layout until I get the pickup truck properly fixed/reliable. Need that done first so I have a way to pick up the lumber for the RR expansion. Have no way to drop off the truck and get back home except on weekends and the shop is closed then. Eventually!
***Terry, love the lake with dead-fall and reflection. Very nice!
***Ray, interesting your cats were trying to tell you something was up. One would expect that from dogs, not necessarily from cats. 130dBs, must have been piercing for them. I was waiting for you to say one of them had their head stuck in the Cpap mask.LOL One of my two indoor cats is amused with my mask, the other ignores it completely.
Have a good night all.
Cheers! Rob
Well I did a little work on Oliver's adventure today. I had a set of stack variables that weren't working the way I had intended. Turned out it was one variable causing all the trouble. There are two similar variables, SB1 and SB2. In this instance SB1=1 and SB2=2. When Oliver goes into a seating compartment and starts snooping around SB1=1 and SB2=2. However when he is searching the overhead rack a ten year old boy who was asleep on one of the seats wakes up. Now SB1=0 and SB2=2. The kid runs out of the compartment. SB1=1 and SB2=1. This is where things get hairy. The variables look simple enough and they are. Quick Basic (QBasic) would look at the variables and see them for what they are. SB1 and SB2. It looks at the ENTIRE variable and the assignment (that's the # after the '=' sign). However I'm not using Quick Basic. I'm using Applesoft Basic. It looks at part of the variable. The first two characters (SB) then it looks at the assignment. See the problem? SB1 and SB2 have the SAME first two characters. So the computer is looking at SB1 and SB2 but basic is seeing SB and SB. Guess what happens when SB1=1 and SB2=1. Basic sees SB=1 and SB=1. This causes the stack to crash and I get a stack overflow error. However the fix was simple enough. SB1 is still SB1 but SB2 is now SD2 and the stack is working properly. It involved reformatting seventeen line assignments where SB2 was used, about an hours work. The leg was good to me today. Only some moderate pain but no red spots. Maybe I'll grow some calluses in those areas soon.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Janie, just a upc of hot chocolate and a seat by the stove in the back please...
Currently 25°F outside and the snow plow just now came down my street spreading salt.... Roads were pretty good between Geneva and Rochester today. Worst driving was in Rochester as the "Lake Effect" was still doing a number on the city. It was not a bad drive at all on the way home as soon as I got on the thruway...
Today there was to be 6 of us manning the NMRA table at the show. A couple days ago one guy bowed out from coming as he was home trying to pass a kidney stone! The weather coming up from the Southern tier kept 2 other guys from making the trip up today, and right before I left (an hour and a half late) I got an email from an older gent that for several reasons (I bet his wife put her foot down) couldn't come over today. So.... That left just 2 of us and I was late getting there and the other guy had to leave early afternoon to go to a family gathering. S.... The best made plans....
The funny story of the day was that last night I set the alarm to get out of bed at 7:45. I woke up at 7:30, took off the CPAP mask and went to the little room down the hall (where that old guy with a beard keeps staring out of the mirror at me!) and then headed to the computer to check on the weather conditions to see if I was going to even go to the show today. I no sooner had started the computer when both cats (who were on the bed in the bedroom) came running out to where I was and starred up at me. Manét was meowing loudly at me and Blackie was pawing my leg to get my attention. I just looked down at them, scratched thier heads and thought, "what the heck is wrong with them this morning"? they just sat there and kept trying to get my attention... I got up from the computer to go get my coffee going and the cats blocked my pth to the kitchen still trying to get me to do something. Didn't think much more about it un till I walked to the bathroom to wash my hands, and then walked by the bedroom. Now I didn't yet have my hearing aids in my ears, but I head a strange sound like some kind of an alarm or the phone ringing.... Thought for a second and thought, "I bet one of the guys who is supposed to be coming to the show is calling and ran over to the phone. Nothing... Could no longer hear the sound either.... I went back to the hallway and heard it again! have you figured it out yet??? The cats were trying and trying to tell me the alarm clock had gone off in the bedroom! Duh! Tough being deaf sometimes. The alarm clock is one for the deaf that blasts an alrm at about 130 Db and could wake the dead. But I couldn't hear it until I was right near the bedroom.
Jeffrey, sounds like you are adapting well to your new leg! I stopped at Subway here in town and brought my dinner home with me... That is about the only "Fast Food" place I will patronize. And I don't go there very often.
I think I shall go snuggle in near the wood stove and get warm. Manét will likely join me. Later!
Well I wore the leg for most of the day today. Took it off at 6:45 this evening. No red spots on the stump and knee but a couple spots were somewhat tender. Pain was moderate at worst. From one to ten a three or four. I walked around in the yard a bit this morning and in the house some. This afternoon we went to Subway for dinner and to celebrate my step mothers birthday. I like Subway as long as somebody else is buying. Due to an incident some years ago I'll never buy anything there again. Maybe I'll tell you about it someday.
I take back everything I said about my Green Bay Packers!! What a comeback!

JimRCGMOJeff, I was wondering about that black Apple - was that all as originally built (//e labels, white keyboard, etc.?). I knew about the Bell & Howell Apple IIe (or was it a II?), but never saw photos of the original ones to see if they said Apple or B&H on them. Looks a bit unusual, for sure. And I like your sense of humor about the train sets in those two rooms...Laugh
Good Sunday afternoon, Diners! -6f and clear. Pretty cold.
Had some buddies over for an ops session this morning, my first. Figured it would really shakedown the railroad. I wasn't disappointed. Lots of minor problems to address. I wouldn't have found them without a test ops. We had loads of fun and laughs, though! They've all signed on for the next one after the holidays. That'll give me time to fix stuff.
We only got through about half the schedule over about 3 hours, so an adjustment there is warranted. Granted, they had never run the railroad before so there was a lot of 'splaining at first.None are MRR's.Yet!
Watching the Packers play. Lousily. Really bad so far.
That's all for now.
Good Afternoon, Janie - I’ll have a BLT with some of those potato skins (with the bacon and cheese, please), and a Rio Grande mug of hot chocolate, and a RBF a bit later for my dessert. Thanks!Jeff, I was wondering about your Wal-Mart trip yesterday when you first mentioned it (“Hmm, I wonder if he'll overdo, and try to walk too much, instead of getting a cart inside WallyWorld?”). Glad that your wiser self prevailed. Sounds like the Gold Bond will be very helpful as you get adjusted to the new leg. I was wondering about that black Apple - was that all as originally built (//e labels, white keyboard, etc.?). I knew about the Bell & Howell Apple IIe (or was it a II?), but never saw photos of the original ones to see if they said Apple or B&H on them. Looks a bit unusual, for sure. And I like your sense of humor about the train sets in those two rooms...Johnboy, great to see you posting in here again! Keep at it, and as many have said, we’re pulling for ya! And for you as well, Ulrich! Get rested up (so you can get by Herr Arztpraxis), please.Ray, I would concur that your blacksmith’s building is coming along great! That ‘stonew**k’ is the kind I’ve thought about making some (more Southwestern-styled) ‘stone’ buildings, but I was thinking of casting the walls with a thin coat of PofP in a plastic jig, and then set stones (W-S talus, mostly) in the plaster while it was still kinda wet. I’ll have to go back and find your posts when you started your blacksmith shop to see what all you did/used...Galaxy, with the weather up your (and Ray’s) direction, I’m sure Hawaii did sound pretty good (even at 67 F)! And shame on you, using the ‘S’ word in the Diner! But hey, every guy has his limits - we can only take so much of that white stuff, right? When I read your morning post today (about 'new material'), I was thinking “He almost sounds like a comedian there...”Garry, hope you didn’t get much of that icy part of the storm that had moved through a few days ago. I’m hoping it will warm up nicely in the next few days so the remaining ice/packed sn*w in our parking lot will be gone soon. Mr. B, you’re down with w**k for this year? I think I’m jealous! I’ve cut the shellfish from my diet (bad effect on my cholesterol level, which I want/need to keep down). But baked/broiled fish (salmon, etc.), THAT is still on my diet (love it!).Todd, are you hoping for the usual thing when somebody buys/gets out a sn*wblower (that that means you won’t have any need for it...)? Sounds like Brenda hasn’t got on board with that idea that you don’t buy much of any presents for yourself when Christmas is coming (for the very reason you mentioned on the Godzilla video pack). If I get anything, I make sure it isn’t something I may have mentioned to my daughter, and/or I only get something that I never have said anything about, and that it is not at all like **anything** on my gift list I gave them this year (or the year before...). At least you figured how to get out of that shopping club place... Hey, are you far enough north to catch some of the winter storms coming across/northeasterly, after they dump the white stuff in the St. Louis area?CN Charlie - I’d say that whichever temp scale you use, that’s just COLD up there!!! Bet you even have to wear your light jacket on days like that, eh? And it might be a little while before I get up there to visit you in January, though...Rob, good to see you again in here. How’s your weather been there? I think you may have missed the white stuff and ice, but figured ya coulda got a good soaking from the storm last week. Critters doing okay? And how is the re-doing of the layout(s) coming along?
Here's a photo of my (decorated) Christmas tree - as I said yesterday when I was in the Diner, I still have my stocking(s) and a few smaller decorations to put up around the apartment.

There's a Christmas concert I'm going to tonight at church (free), so that should be good. And this morning was the annual kids' Christmas program. Typical - funny, various little things (one kid couldn't figure how to turn on the microphone's on/off switch), and the littlest kids were the "cattle" in the manger, with 'cow' caps that had spots and horns painted on them. I was thinking the local Chick-Fil-A manager should've been there!
Welp, my food's here, so I'll be at the RC a bit. Do keep on taking care of yourselves (and loved ones), and best wishes if your shopping isn't done (mine isn't...).
Blessings and prayers,

Good Morning,
Well Winterpeg is living up to its reputation this morning as it is -35C or -25F if you prefer.
Johnboy, Glad you stopped in as I too was wondering how you were doing with your treatments. I truly hope everything works out well for you.
Yesterday I had a day similar to Todd's. We drove all over the place in -20 weather, in and out of stores, etc. We finally got home about 9 p.m. Driving here in such cold weather is nerve wracking to say the least because the little snow that fell Friday nicely polished the packed snow on the side streets and intersections to ice and I mean that hard, glassy type of ice. Ice is different when it is very cold outside compared to just below freezing. Come visit some January and I'd be happy to show you.
We are staying inside today as it is supposed to snow this afternoon with a high of -20C. A fire and wine are in order I think.
Not much happening on the RR front. I am slowly making progress on my Middlesex Manufacturing building. I'm just about to put the glazing in the windows, about 50 windows and we are talking N scale so they are small indeed. I am trying to just use strips of the clear plastic otherwise I will have to cut each window out seperately from the sheet. I might run some trains.
Keep warm,
CN Charlie
