Evenin' folks!

Janie, a hot cup of decaf would really hit the spot right now.

Galaxy, I hesitate to say my thoughts about how much white stuff will be on the ground by tomorrow morning....  The weather guessers are leaving themselves lots of running room with this I think.  Up here we have had Lake Effect Snow which one never knows where exactly it will go except nearby the great lakes.  We do actually get a small amount of "Lake Effect across and onto the Eastern Shore of Seneca lake when conditions are right.  So far with allthe white out conditions I mentioned earlier, we have gotten a little over an inch so far.  What happens when "What's her Name" moves in overnight???  Who knows.  I do have to drive into Rochester if the conditions are not awfully bad....  I have gotten so I choose to not go out in snowy conditions if I can avoid it.

Ulrich, my prayers for your friend and his wife!

V8, hope your dog is healing well!

Prayers also for JohnBoy, Jeffrey, and others in need!

Well, sn*w is coming our way.

They can't make up their minds how much we'll get.

Suffice it to say about 14 inches or less, possibly more but not doubtful. Flat our 4-8 inches at least. Or maybe not.

ULRICH: I have added your firend's wife to the prayer candle group.

I have quite a few going now, will have to get more and be sure I don't burn the house down!

Well, since no one won the $400 million dollar Mega millions, Igot us a ticket. A $1 and a dream? we'll see about that!

Oh..jsut in case..if we happen to lose power {chances are due to some idiot hitting a telephone pole}, I won't be on then in the morning!

So...I will be on as soon as I can!

Cold tonight, but the 40s return in 7 days!

***Jeffrey, it is so great to see you standing up and looking strong. Excellent! Some terrific layout pics, too. Especially like the old reddish baggage(?) car.

It's a baggage car, or it was. I modeled it after one that sat abandoned in Leesville for many years. It was pulled from passenger service when KCS/L&A/Southern Belle dropped the service in '68. It was relegated to MoW service. When not in use it was parked on a spur behind the old roundhouse. One year a grass fire swept through the area and the hoses, wires, diaphragms burned away. That was back in the late 70's. It was abandoned in place and sat there and rusted for thirty plus years. Me and my friend David went and took a bunch of photos of it in August of '08. Sometime in 2011 or 2012 it was cut up in place and carted off for scrap. Now you know what the reddish color was. RUST.

Good afternoon, everybody.  ... I'll have egg nog and Christmass cookies, please.

Ulrich .... Sorry to learn about your friend's wife. prayers for her. Also, prayer continue for you health.

Karl .... Hope the cold improves.

Jeff ... I hope the new leg works out okay without the need for Sundown Shops to adjust it.

V8 Dennis .... Sorry to hear bout your dog being attacked. Evidently, the pit bull is very dangerous. I hope it does not get near any small children.

Here is my sleeper/lounge car. I posted this photo and one of the other side in WPF with a prototype photo. Actually, I'm not real happy with it because of some screw ups I made. The car is named "Happy Hollow Club". Also, I weathered it.

Jeffrey: I DO hope it gets "worked out for you", SOON. Besides altering it yourself, DON'T be afraid to raise a redneck ruckus over it! I say that as my first top dental partial did NOT fit right. I didn't know the difference, though and so never raised an eye. I had to glue it in, i had to change/wash it after eating anything at all and it sounded like i was talking in a tunnel. WHen I got my new second partial to replace the first that had been modified to many times, I was AMAZED at how well the new one fit! If I had known the difference, I'd have complained loudly the first time! the first should technically fit me still, but the last time the second was sent "in for repairs", There was NO WAY that old one, even with adjustments was fgoing to fit me, NO WAY!

Now, I didn't have pain with the partial, but you should have little or no pain with the leg. If need be, they need to reshape it for you OR make you a whole new one! DOn't let them snoball you just cause you have Medicaid! Medicaid IS "insurance Coverage", whether they like it or NOT!

SN*W- we are expecting lots, we shall see!It has started...

later gators...dinner is chicken broccioles, stuffing and corn.

Well, have to go take a fresh bale out to the big horses. With the grass in the pastures basically dormant, they eat a lot of hay this time of year.

I had to take the leg off for a little while. I had put some extra padding in it earlier to see if that eased the pain a bit. It did for a while then it start hurting so bad I couldn't stand it anymore. So I took it off and waited for my knee to stop complaining. I put back on about twenty minutes ago minus the extra padding and so far it feels good. We'll see how long that lasts. Updates are sure to come later. One of my aunts, her late husband wore a prosthetic leg for over forty years. She says his first one and a replacement he got many years later gave him trouble. He had one replaced because it was so bad. The other one he made some slight modifications to it and it was tolerable. I hope mine comes under the 'slight modifications' heading. If the doc doesn't have it fixed I will fix it, to hell with the warranty.

Good morning. It's 50° with 56% humidity. The high will be 58°. It'll be cloudy with a fair chance of rain.
 with

Still having some pain issues with the new prosthesis but at least I know now what's causing it. My stump is shrinking more and that causes it to sink lower into the socket and causes parts of the socket to press against places they it was intended to clear. I talked with the doc about this at some length this morning. His advice is to put on the extra socks that came with the prosthesis. That should take care of the problem. Well it did to some extent. The problem part of the socket was still pressing hard against the side of my knee. So I took one of the socks, folded it in half and put that between my knee and the part of the socket that's giving me a problem. That helped quite a bit. My knee isn't really happy but it's not complaining loudly either. I also made it a point to ask the doc if I could take a shower with this thing on. That was one of my stipulations when I'd ordered it in the first lace. The answer was a disappointment. No. I can't get it wet. When I see him next week I'll grill him in greater detail about what I can do to it to make it possible to take a shower with it on. More importantly I'll be demanding to know why I didn't get a waterproof one like I had asked for. Probably the insurance cheaping out.

No set plans for today. I'm thinking about working on Oliver's adventure later. That's not the name of that part of the game but it sounds better than 'Native Fury: Train segment' don't you think?

Good Evening!

It´s been a gray and cold day at this side of the Big Pond. Although all the little snow we had is gone by now, staying outside is not a pleasure these days.

My new MRR friend Reiner called me today, telling me that his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is in hospital, undergoing all the lab work. Surgery is scheduled for next week, followed by chemo therapy. He and his daughers, 14 and 16 years of age, won´t have a happy Christmas time this year. Please include Reiner´s wife and his family in your prayers.

Jeff - I am glad to see that you have regained your mobility. Our prayers for you will continue, as for Johnboy!

Galaxy - I really like to read your limericks. Hope, after a little break maybe, you will pick them up again.

Any news from Barry? And all other MIA´s? I sure miss them!

The day was filled with a lot of daydreaming about a layout I´d like to build. You know I have the habit of firing up my old `puter and prepare a drawing of it,  just

to share my latest creation with you:

Make it a great day!

Mornin'!

Zoe, just a refil for the dark roast coffee, please!

Holy Moly!  There is a white out outside right now!  For those of you down where you don't get these things, a White out is where it is snowing so hard you can't see 20 feet ahead of you.  I can barely see the houses across the street.  This is what the weather people call, Partly Cloudy around here.  It's also coming down sideways!  This is just "Lake Effect".

Todd, in her mind a few minutes usually means the rest of the day......

V8, sorry to hear about your dog...  As others have suggested, report it.  In fact in your jurisdiction not reporting it may be a crime in itself....  There is a Pit Bull across the street from me.  His owners are very responsible and keep him fenced in on their property when he is out and also watch him carefully.  I agree with Todd that most Pit Bull owners are responsible people who train their dogs well, but the breed was bred for fighting, and even the sweety across the street will maul another male dog!  It is in the genes.

Need to finish packing for the RIT show today.  Hope I don't have to fight a major storm to getb there...

Later!

Well

Did anybody in the USA notice:

Yesterday was {TA DA!}  12/12/13, and today is {TA DA!}  12/13/13?

*Luke* This is not your father, but we play with your mind!

Did my errands.

We are 'spectin' some sn*w..depends on who you believe..either 2-4, 4-6, 6-8 or more or 2-4 inches. They up and down it all the time!

We shall see what we shall see.

GUYS: I really got nauseated posting the last few limericks. I am taking a break from them. May bring them back later. but for now, NOT.

Once was  a guy who so boasted

ad nauseum limericks he posted

Of them he got tired,

and so they expired

As his brain was really toasted!

Got it? Good. For now.

well, I go rest my toasted brain..

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a caramel roll please, thank you.

(covers eyes and looks away) Someone tell me what the weather is. I’m afraid to look. Today, a slight chance of rain and sleet between noon and 3pm, then rain likely. Increasing clouds, with a high near 34. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. Tonight, rain and snow, becoming all snow after 9pm. Low around 28. South southeast wind around 7 mph becoming east northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Jeffrey-  Aw Jeff, you didn’t have to shave your leg for us! Laugh Looks great! I bet feels great to see some progress on the road to being mobile again. Sounds like you’ll be spending more time learning to get it set just right than it will to walk on it. That’s good.

Ray- Do you ever get the urge to ask…just how long is a “few minutes”?Whistling Laugh

V8 Dennis- I’m sorry to hear what happened to your dog. It saddens me. I have my opinions on the owner, but I will keep them to myself. I would however say this. I know several responsible people who own Pit Bulls. Raised like any other pet/member of the family dog, these animals are as sweet natured as any dog and have no more of an issue with people or other animals than say your random dog. All dogs have their exceptions. It’s most likely the way this one was raised and taught to behave. I would report the dog attack.

Today I guess I should go to town and get some supplies for until we can get out again. Mainly Oinkies® for the dog. She only has one left and she will demand that today then there will be none for tomorrow until we can get out and to the store. She will not understand and will bring up that whole 4 wheel drive thing again and we all know about thatConfused. Then, w*rk tonight.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good Morning guys!

Still fighting my cold. The good news is my sinuses are clearer. I no longer have to hold a Kleenex under my nose when I look down. The bad news is its now in my chects. In either case, breathing stinks!

Dennis,,, I gotta agree with Galaxy here, the authorities need to be involved. I hate to see an animal put down, but what happens next? My cousins step daughter was the victim of a dog attack (German Shepherd). She survived, but will wear the physical and emotional scars forever.

Ulrich Get that ticker checked out! We'll keep you in our prayers. Angel

Jeffrey: you'll be able to put the leg on straight in no time, even in the dark with your eyes and ears blindfolded and stuffed!

I've already started doing that. I found a certain angle at which it feels straight. I then roll the sleeve up over the rubber liner I had to put on first and nine times out of ten it's there.

I swear I do not like this new format Sigh

Seems that in the previous post the line of "GOOD MORNING" should be bigger that the "FRiday the 13th" lines!

and it seems that words come out bigger than one intends?

and I have to manually add the color in? {thanks Jeffrey}

I dunno about the "high tech" stuff of today.

A tablet, what is that?? something lined {or unlined} you write on! apparently not?!

And a "smart phone". phooey. I want a phone that Is NOT smarter than I!!!  Iff'n I want to TALK to someone I prefer to TALK to them! I don't think I'll be in a situation where texting can be a boon cause of noise levels! My Flip phone form Wally WOlrd works fine. I know some of you out there can't live without texting for 5 mins., but I can!

Dunno. SOmeday the power grid goes out and *POOF* there goes your high tech!

I'm gonna get me a generator...

Sigh

Morning coffee in the diner!

GOOD FRIDAY MORNING!!!

Today is...wait for it:

Today is

FRIDAY the 13th!

{Of December}

Something old that is new again: "A Stone's throw":

Meaning: A short distance

A stone's throw is, of course, literally the distance that a stone can be thrown, but has come to mean any short but undefined distance. Early English versions of the Bible refer to 'a stone's cast' with the same meaning, as in Luke 22:41, Wycliffe's Bible, 1526, for example:

in nd he gat himself from them, about a stone's cast,

'Stone's throw' was used in a non-biblical setting by the end of the 16th century. Arthur Hall's translation The Ten books of Homers Iliades, 1581, contains this line:

"For who can see a stones throw of ought thing in land or plaine?"

Stones hadn't then been established as the definitive objects to be thrown and the following year Nicholas Lichefield wrote:

"The enimyes were come, within the throwe of a Dart."

All forms of the phrase were little used and it wasn't until 1704 that Jonathan Swift revived it in The battle of the books:

"The two Cavaliers had now approach'd within a Throw of a Lance."

The 'stone's throw' variant was established properly by John Arbuthnot in The History of John Bull, 1712, and, following that, there are many citations of the phrase.

"Mrs. Bull's condition was looked upon as desperate by all the men of art; but there were those that bragged they had an infallible ointment and plaister, which being applied to the sore, would cure it in a few days; at the same time they would give her a pill that would purge off all her bad humours, sweeten her blood, and rectify her disturbed imagination. In spite of all applications the patient grew worse every day; she stunk so, nobody durst come within a stone's throw of her, except those quacks who attended her close, and apprehended no danger."

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

V8Vega

Fri.65/40 Sat. 73/48 Sun. 76/47
I take a walk daily for exercise along with my dogs and Cooper my Border Collie was attacked by a neighbors Pit Bull. Tore his skin off for a 4" square, a horrible looking wound. He is all sown up now and should be alright. It had to hurt terrably but he didn't complain, maybe he was in shock. Cost $668 the owner is a young guy, says he is out of work and has no money but he says he will pay. I doubt it but at least he didn't tell me to get lost.

V8VEGA- He TOLD you that so you won't sue or make him put down the Pit Bull...You NEED to report it to the authorities with the Police Dept. that handles that stuff!!! The Dog SHOULD be put down as an attack dog. You do a dis-service to the next person who goes by with a dog the pit bull attacks! WHy? Because the owner is now on notice {if he was nto not already} that the dog will attack. Once it has attacked, if it attacks again, regardless of owners abiltiy to pay, it has to be  put down.  ANd think of this: what if next time it is a small child it attacks?? SO REPORT IT NOW, NOT later, when he can claim otherwise. I am surprised the vet didn't make you do it.

Jeffrey: you'll be able to put the leg on straight in no time, even in the dark with your eyes and ears blindfolded and stuffed!

CAPE JIM! Great to see you, chime in more often!

Garry; wait til you get the CC bill for all those packages! But so CONVENIENT to shop onine nowadays! i did all my shopping except one item online! Now I face the piper in Jan-April with skin flint purchases and ntohing extra!

RAY: SO far, you are the ONLY ONE mentioning missing the limericks! No one else!

CURT WEBB: You have me confused with someone else. My G-ma passed away many many many years ago. I THINK your confusion may arise in that I lighted a prayer candle for one who DID lose G-ma.

Soon to post the morning greeting!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf.....  Whoa!  Who's that walking around in the dinner.....???  Why it looks like Santa's redneck brother, Bubba Claus!  I think it is!  The Beard is right and he can fill out the rest of the costumer well I think.  Huh?  Oh... Jeffrey got his new leg today...  I see.  Dang, I was just imaginin' him riding out to all those little kids houses with his 4x4 pick'emup truck and oversized tahrrrs, with the gun racks, and the dogs on top,  to deliver all the presents to them little varmints on Christmas Eve.....

Hey Jeffrey! Great to see you up and walking again!  Bet you will be very glad to get back home, but it was great that you had a place to stay during the whole ordeal.

I had my doctors appointment about the CPAP today.  He looked at the file he downloaded from the place that sells and verifies the machine.  Grins and says, "Your doing great!"  He isn't making any changes in the pressures and I don't have to check back with him for a year on it.  Guess I get to keep the thing.  I do feel better now!  Just wish I could get my blood sugar to stay down where it should be.  That is a whole 'nuther story!

Galaxy, any time you do want to write more of them Limerick Poems, you'll have a good audience in here.

After I got done with the Doctors Appt. I went and filled up the PiP with dinasaur dung gunk and headed out to deliver a Boy Scout Wreath to my sisters house in Canandaigua.  I was a bit later than I had hoped getting up their and I had just dropped off the wreath on her front porch when she drives in her driveway from bossing...  Ahem, from volunteering over at the Horsepiddle.  She, of course wants to know if I have a few minutes to help her put up her Christmas Tree (Funny she says she is Buddist or something like that and hates those..... cough, cough.  But has to have the most beautiful Christmas tree in the area or she is unhappy).  Well, the Christmas Tree is still at the place where she buys it every year (from one of her former students...).  So I get to drive her over to the store North of Canandaigua and wait while she instructs the guy on how she wants the tree trimmed and everything , then wait for them to put it through the wrapping machine then drill a hole in the bottom of the trunk for the new fangled tree stands they sell...  Then of course she has to go pay for the tree and flirt with the other young guys working there.  In the meantime one of the guys has gotten the tree into my PiP for the ride home.  At her house I get the tree out and into her house without letting Claude the Cat out, and somehow get it onto the new fangled stand using the hole they drilled in the bottom of the poor tree.  I can't leave yet until she tries every possible possition for the tree all the time complaining that she doesn't think they drilled the little hole in the bottom of the tree right and the tree doesn't look quite right.  She asked my opinion and gave it to her.  I said it looked like a dying Balsom Fir slaughtered for the celebration of Christmas...  I managed to somehow get out the door without being cruxified.

Tonight I started packing for the RIT Train Show.  The NMRA Division will have a Modeler's Corner at the show.  If any of you are going, stop by and say Howdy!

Have a great night.  My prayers for all in need (and there are some I see)!

Hey look! .... Duck Dynasty is here! ... Jeff, may I have your autograph please? .... Seriously, I'm glad you have your leg. Things should be lookinmg up for you now.

I sure they look up. I've been out of commission for five months now. I soon as I can get around easily I'll be moving back to my trailer. I can't even watch the TV in my room here on low volume without my father yelling 'You need a hearing aid?' when I can barely hear it. Believe me, that got old fast! So I watch my DVD's on the computer here in the office.

*

Well it's been a pretty full day for me. Went to the orthopedics clinic this morning where they fitted me with the new leg. I then stood up and started walking around the docs office with only a slight limp. He was surprised to say the least. He said most people need help just to stand up and then need assistance to walk a bit. I go back there on the 19th. When we got home it was really nice to walk from the car to the house. I used the folded up walker like a cane just in case. Since then I've been walking around in the house a bit. Just made a trip to the bathroom and back with only my cane for assistance. I had left my chair parked in front of the computer in the office. It feels great to be able to walk around again. I found out earlier today that if I have to take the leg off for any reason (bed would be one) it has to go back on absolutely straight or it hurts really bad. I did it earlier just to see if I could get it right quickly. It took me about fifteen minutes to get it just right.

Time to call it a night here. See y'all tomorrow.

Man, I miss the typeface and color choices on text! By the way, does anyone know how to get those in the editor? On 'Reply', I see very basic formatting choices, but where you can change your signature, I see all the 'old' editor choices. Anyone? (Ah, well...)

The PM reply box has the old software with the text colors and everything else we were all used to. I copy and paste my post there, do my formating, copy my post again, delete what's in the PM reply box then paste my post back here. Just like I just did with this one.

Evening, Zoe - I'll have a hot fudge sundae and a Santa Fe mug of decaf, please 'n' thank-you!

Jeffrey, the leg looks good on you! BowBow Get your "land legs" again and have (mostly) fun adjusting to them. Thumbs Up And it looks like your 'formal wear' is a lot like mine (the shirt that is clean... usually a sign for me that I need to do laundry!) Smile, Wink & Grin

Ulrich, I'd agree with the suggestions to talk with your doctor/medical provider about your weakness/heart problems. Don't put it off, please! (And if you need to have any 'maintenance' done in-hospital, send us word by carrier pigeon/PM/email to one of us, also). AngelAngel

Another cool night in Cape G.-land (which would be walking shorts & T-shirt weather for our NOTB friends like Johnboy & our other Canadian Diners), Supposed to be a bit warmer (only dropping into a little below 20 F/-7 C), and tomorrow, we break freezing during the day (maybe almost 40 F/ 4C!!). Of course, tomorrow night (maybe suppertime or later) we may start getting some more who-know-what, depending on if the temp is at/below freezing by the time the precip. starts dropping out of the sky...

Sooo glad tomorrow is Friday! Yeah Ready for a weekend. Tonight, I got our "Essential Learning" (not-so) that is how our company claims we get our training...Bang HeadBang Head So good to have that round done (though I may have a dozen or more other annual course to (re-)take, but may have more leeway to get those (mind-numbing) ones done.

Think I will kick back at the RC and have my dessert for now. AngelAngel for all those in need of them - for healing, some well-deserved rest (that ya might not have been getting), less/no pain for a bit (at least), comfort and rest. Try to get some MRR-related stuff in your weekend. Thumbs Up

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

Hey Jeffrey, looking great! It has to be wonderful to be up on two legs again.

Oh it's great! Just to be able to walk from the car to the house was a blast. I still used the walker for that but it was folded up and being used like a cane.

I'm working on getting the bend out of the knee so I can stand up straight.

Evening All,

Hope everyone is staying well. Our temps finally dropped into the low 70's today. It was nice not sweating when working outside. Today I moved stuff around in the train room in preparation of tomorrow cutting out the center section of the layout. I have to admit I am a bit apprehensive about itHmm.

Ulrich- I hope your heart issues subside and you feel better.

Jeff- I am glad you finally got your new leg and I hope you quickly are able to use it normally.

John Boy- I continue to say prayers for you and hope you are doing well.

Galaxy- My condolences to you over the loss of your Grandmother.

Jeremy- Happy belated birthdayHappy B-Day

Garry- Good luk with the loco. It looks awesome.

I hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Jeffrey: it looks like you have a foot hold on having a leg to stand on! {Actually I figured to be one of those high-tech thinga-ma-bobbers with the flexible steel....apparently you only get those if you are an olympic runner?} It looks good. Now for the pain of it to wear out so it is comfy for you. Now that you got it when do you return home? I'll bet this open up whole new worlds for you!

I'll return home when I'm comfortable going up and down steps. Right now I'm a bit unsteady walking. It has a flexible ankle so I'm not walking on a rocker bottom plate. I did plenty of that for years with those orthopedic boots. Those things were a pain!
