Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, just a bowl of Organic Pumpkin Flax Granola cereal with a half cup of blueberries on top and my Seneca Lake Blend dark roast coffee for me this morning.  Thank You Ma'am.

Currently 81°F under something called sunny skies here in the Finger Lakes... Long list of items on the must get done list, so I won't be hanging around online much (except for that which involves being on line).  have to get a certificate of insurance from the NMRA for our Fall Meet...  We decided the little club which will be hosting it is not big enough for the number of people we often get for our meets these days...

Will be having some of my old classmates over in a week to start putting together a booklet to be mailed out to all who attended our reunion last weekend.  Most of them are ladies who are very good housekeepers.  I don't want to completely gross them out by the mess here!

Speaking of Mess®, Whatever happened to Fergie?

Later!

I might have to pack some protection for the mighty Nikon to keep it dry.

Which Nikon are you using as your main body AmanaMedic?

  Morning All,

Currently it is 60 with an expected high of 90. Still smokey skies, but not as bad, except that is, if you are at the Best In West Rib Cook Off. Rib cookers come from all over the country to compete, and have their ribs for sale. Great event if you like ribs, and who does not like ribs? This is my weekend to w**k, so I will not be getting any ribs this year.

Woke up with a pain in my left foot just above the arch. Don't remember hitting it on anything, I guess just old age. If if does not get better I may not be able to put in a full day at w**k, seeing as how we typically walk about 5 to 7 miles a day. It is a big store.

Eye is healing. But still no layout or model w**k yet.

Sue - Glad to see you back.

   Prayers to all in need.

Good morning. .... I'll have oatmeal and OJ, please.

Chris .... I like the photos. Too bad you missed seeing the Centennial loco. ..... I'll be on the look out for the R I shield. ..... Well, I suppose if your definition of "foobie" is a locomotive, Vinnie will allow you to use it in the Diner. You had better not be thinking it means something else.  .... Have any problems with slice bread lately?

Galaxy ... That was thoughtful of you to remind people to be careful with what they say with Sue here. Don't worry about Chris. A foobie is  locomotive.

Todd .... Sounds like a good pie.

Jeff  .... Hope the doctor appointment goes well.

Paul ... You mentioned smoke in teh air. We've been hearing about the big fire in the news.

Barry  ..... Perhaps you should wait for cooler September weather to work outside.

Karl .... Glad the AC guy came. ..... Have fun with the honey-do fridge project. Maybe you can at least day dream about working on the layout while fridge duties are being completed.

Happy Model Railroading.

Good morning. It's 73° with 93% humidity. The high will be 98° and will feel like 109°.

Well there's been a change about the doc appointment this morning. My father got a call this morning notifying him of a scheduling mix-up and he doesn't have to come in today. So he'll be able to take me to the docs office later. It's nothing special, just a standard examination. Other then that I have no plans for today.

Morning coffee in the diner..

GOOD FRIDAY MORNING!!

Today is Friday, August 30th, 2013!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!

Today's fun limerick:

A major, with wonderful force,

Called out in Hyde Park for a horse.

All the flowers looked round,

But no horse could be found;

So he just rhododendron, of course

Today's useless words {or Are they?}:

Boy, maybe there is still some 'Agiotage' going on: - A stock term that means the manipulating by speculations the raising and lowering of stock prices

How many of you want 'Batta' when you work extra hours???- Extra pay; overtime wages

How many have ever told, or had children tell a 'Capilotade' - A story that's hashed together

I am SURE we here all have  'Ziraleet' faces!! - Any expression of joy

Palindromic {words} poem:

Love is This and This is Love by J.A. Linden

Darling, my love

 Is great, so great;

Recalling Heaven's calm above.

 Fate is sweet this---

All after Fall!

Fall? After all,

This, sweet, is fate---

Above calm Heaven's recalling.

Great, so great is

 Love, my darling!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

VINCENT: Thanks! UP may not send their "heritage" units off-system, but the NS has... Ames Railfans has reported sightings of some of them in the Des Moines area on unit grain trains. I think NS did it right: took the actual paint schemes and fit it to the EMD or GE locomotive. UP had a nice idea, but the execution didn't always w**k so well. In other words, some of UP's "heritage fleet" just look better than others. The SP unit is eye-catching, the Katy, not so much.  I think the Katy foobie looks like a Tyco circus train coming down the track with it's red with big white star on the nose.

I would rather they had done like NS and used the original paint jobs. In the case of 1995, I think the freight paint scheme on CNW F-units would actually fit the SD-70 just fine. If you look at them in profile, not a lot of difference in the basic shape. But, some designer decided to "push the envelope" and re-invent stuff. The only thing I like about the 1995 is the large "ball and bar" on the side and the nod to CNW's history with the "Employee Owned" herald on the nose. As for the rest of it? 'Eh, not so much.

I should add, the Iowa Interstate (IAIS) did one of their GE EVO-whatevers, in a classic Rock Island scheme. They didn't re-invent it, just adapted it to fit the modern beast. I've seen it a few times, never gotten a really good shot of it though. Also, the Iowa Northern (IANR) has a F-40PH they use on "The Hawkeye Express," a bi-level commuter train THAT takes Iowa Hawkeye football fans from a distant parking lot practically to the front gate of the stadium. Anyhow, they painted it up in a silver/maroon Rock Island scheme, even had an old RI shield made and put on the nose. Some knucklehead went and stole THAT some years ago when the train was parked, on a siding, along US Highway 6 in Iowa City.

Evenin' folks!

Janie I'll have one of those RBFs I heard about.  Thanks!

Could not get myself going today...  After granddaughters left, I just chilled out for the rest of the morning.  Had to go downtown to get my allergy shot, then bought a couple ears of corn for supper tonight.  Decided to go vegetarian tonight so I made an nice summer squash casserole and the corn.  Then I headed out for a Troop 1 activity just to see how they were doing.  they went to a local miniature golf place.  Turns out one Scout didn't show up so I got to play...  We then went over to where the troop meets and had ice cream sundaes!  Finished up the Railroading Merit Badge with one Scout in troop who got the final requirement done at the museum a couple weeks back.  Since my sugar was once again higher than I like it this morning (141) I debated whether to take a reading tonight thinking it would be out of sight.  Turns out it was only 121.  Not a bad evening level.

I did get out and do a bit of weeding of a flower bed (the rock place) this afternoon and even spent a bit of time doing some painting of a HO Packard Stake Bed truck I have been doing.

Good to see Sue back in here!  Sue, you have been missed!!!

Prayers for all in need!

Good evening guys

I fiddled with the rapido cars diaphragms some more and I came up with a winning solution I think. I filed where they snap into the body, removed the flash from them, and sanded the surface with a really fine sanding block. I tested them around the club layout and it worked great.

Garry, yeah his little Chihuahua mix got the middle of it. One of the guy's friends has one just like it and is sending it as a base to make another car as I have most of the details on mine.

Sue, Welcome back

Chris, nice picks of the UP's CNW foob. Up wouldn't send any of them this way, neither would Norfolk Southern. Just curious, what do you think about the NS heritage units?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Goooooooooooooood Evening, a bucket-sized RBF please 'n thank-you.

Well (way down, toads have again exited stage left for cooler parts unknown), Uncle Pete's full-size CNW foobie, the UP 1995 (CNW "heritage unit") rolled eastbound through town this morning ahead of the posted schedule (Yahoo group Ames Railfans). I thought I'd get to see it as I had an early interview in North Liberty, but alas, 'twas not to be.

Later in the afternoon, UP 6936, one of the DD40AX "Centennials" rolled through, also eastbound, on its way to THAT big RR museum in Illinois for some Labor Day event. Missed THAT one too.

Other 'n THAT, just another hot and humid day in Iowa. The high school football season officially starts tomorrow night (Week One of nine for the regular season). Many games have been moved to a later start time due to the high heat/humidity. The game I'm covering is in Das Peoples' Demokratik Republik of Iowa City. Fortunately they put multiple "misters" on the home sidelines, THAT'll help keep me cool, but I might have to pack some protection for the mighty Nikon to keep it dry. The mist also helps with the lighting, a bazillion water droplets makes an excellent diffuser over the field and buys me up to a full F-stop worth of light.

Continued thoughts and prayers for all in need, have a good and safe Friday and a better weekend.

Chris (in Iowa, where the corn is popping in the fields)

Nothing much happened today. I looked online for some Athearn F7 chassis to use as future parts sources. I found a few that I may get. Progress on the Varney F3A shows it has departed Easton Maryland. I have a doctor appointment in town tomorrow morning. Problem is there'll be no one here to assist me in getting there except my eighty year old step mother. I'll call the docs office in the morning and see if they can get by with a faxed report of the examination done by Home Health today. I doubt they'll agree but it's worth a shot. That's it for today. See y'all tomorrow.

Hi everboddy! Cowboy

Thanks for the RBF SueSmile, Wink & Grin

Well after waiting most of the morning, cable guy A/C repairman showed up at 11:30! Well, in all fairness, they DID say between 7:30 and 12:00 noon. Mischief But the A/c is now fixed!! Yeah!!Big Smile

Finally I can get back to basement projects without sweating all over them,,,,,,,,,,Monday! See, tomorrow I've got a fella coming over who wants to learn all he can about sound installations. He wants me to teach him, pay me for doing that, then go home to convert his fleet by himself, rather than paying someone else to convert them for him. He'll be here all day I'm sure. Then Saturday a holiday party with our future DIL's family on the Patapsco river , Sunday is a 50th birthday party for my cousin on the shore of the Chesapeake Bay!  Bizzy weekend!! LOL!Laugh

Keeping my fingers crossed too. Applied for a job at a local dealership to be the parts departments internet sales manager, handling all the Amazon, Craig's list, and ebay sales. Sounds like something I can handle easily!

Gotta roll out, SWMBO is wanting to clean out the fridge, which means I have to wash the glass shelves in the sink, and toss the garbage immediately after we are done. Yeah, when she says were cleaning the fridge,,we are breaking it down to its smallest serviceable parts. Bang Head Might not be back til the morning!!Mischief

Edit: While the RBF might be on Sue, everything else is on me!!! Eat hearty gang!!Big Smile

Mornin' folks!

Zoe, just a refill for the dark roast coffee.  Had an early breakfast before I even turned on the computer today.

Had my two favorite little girls over this morning while their mom went to a doctors appointment.  They were here for about 2 hours and were good as gold.  I think this is the first time I have ever watched them were they actually played together with no arguments.  Little one went directly for Thomas the Train, and the two of them played that for about 45 minutes.  I also put on an old music video (Professor Iris) I used to show in my 2nd. grade classes.  They watched some of it but it was mostly background for them playing with the Thomas collection here.  Then we gleaned some vegetables from the garden for them to take home.  They ended up with some zucchini, peppers, and a bunch of broccoli to take home.  Both granddaughters love the broccoli!

Paul, sure hope they can get the fire contained soon!  Terrible situation out there...

I have a few "must do" items to take care of, then I may head to the train room for a change!

Later!

  Morning All,

Currently it is 61 with an expected high of 91, with very smokey skies. They say they have this fire 30% contained, so we will probably have smokey skies till the middle of next week.

Just returned form getting my 6 month lab work done, should hear from the doc next week what the results are. They have been good for a few years now, so no change in meds.

  Prayers to all in need.

Got conformation this morning that the Varney loco has been shipped and is on it's way. Estimated delivery is Saturday. No plans for anything in particular today but something may come up.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and an order of biscuits and gravy with 3 scrambled eggs on top please. Thanks.

Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 88. Hm….odd. Weather channel says 91°. Locally, at least yesterday, they were saying around 95°. Morning weather I normally post is cut and paste from the NWS.  I guess we’ll see.

I gotta watch what I say about the waitresses. I may be giving Garry ideas!LaughWink No Seriously Garry, I behave myself as well. One has called me by my name a couple times throughout her time there, and thank goodness never when Brenda was there, but she mostly called me sir or nothing. WHICH is why I really doubt the one called me baby as Brenda contends. I say she said something to the effect of “here, you can pay me as opposed to her version of “here you go baby”.

Karl- You have the same issues we have? SWMBO kicks the covers/sheets off at night do to some personal heat wave, then wakes up when the cool front comes through and accuses you of stealing the covers?LaughZip it!

Dennis- don’t stock up on the AA’s. Soon as you do, something will come up wrong with the box, you’ll have to get another and it’s remote will have AAA’s. Thought I finally got rid of all things using AA’s except for two clocks. One in the dining room and one in the trainroom.  Only have one size battery to buy except the D's for the flashlights. Ok, two. Anyway,  Bought a new DVD player last fall…..remote takes AA’s.Sigh

Now I DID have trouble reading, let alone saying today’s tongue twisting tutor tooting limerick!LaughLaugh

Well what to do today…Confused Oh who knows. Yesterday I did go into town and to Sam’s Club but I walked out with nothing. Basically I went there for their Ribeye steak. They sell the best cut ribeye in town. But I started to think…”when?” Can’t put my finger on it but there’s something this weekend and next weekend is the Fall Festival so that’s out as well as any waking moment next week. So I figured might as well skip it and since we don’t need the volume of some of the things we did need, I just went to Walmart and bought the few things for $80Indifferent. I still don’t see what I bought that added to so much, but it still was cheaper than if I’d a bought it at Sam’s.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

morning coffee in the diner...

GOOD THURSDAY MORNING !!

Today is  Thursday, August 29th, 2013!!!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!

Today's fun clean limerick:

A tutor who tooted a flute

Tried to teach two young tooters to toot.

Said the two to the tutor,

"Is it harder to toot, or..."

"...To tutor two tutors to toot?"

A palindromic poem:

An owl conversation that's silly and fun, by George Marvill.

"Too hot to hoot!"

"Too hot to woo!"

"Too wot?"

"Too hot to hoot!"

"Too woo!"

"Too wot?"

"Too hoot!  Too hot to hoot!"

(Note this palindrome isn't 100% back and forth. It's the 1st 4 lines and then those are done backwards by the last 4 lines. "Too Hot To Hoot" in the middle is the division sentence.)

Every one of us here Deliciates- I guarantee you do too!!!-Don't you think you don't!!! {To make yourself happy or indulge in something you enjoy}.

Do you have a' Delitescent' spot on your layout?? I'll bet you might!- {something Hidden or concealed}

Of course, because of our layouts, many of us have experienced a 'Mycterism' - {A sneer; a taunting}

Now, go play with your 'Octothorpe' - {On the telephone keypad or keyboard it is the # symbol; also called the  pound symbol, number sign, hash or crosshatch}

Another useless day on a another useless front!!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!

Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.

 HO and N Scale.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
