I was pretty busy today. I put 'KEEP OFF!' labels on nine locos. Still some to go but I don't run those much as they're really too big for the layout. I laid out some structures and vehicles as a proposed layout for 'Knutzville' on the east side of the layout. I cleared some of the area at the back of the layout for the proposed site of the grain elevator. Still lots more work to do on that. I did some work on an Atlas signal tower kit. The box is quite aged and the instruction sheet is yellow and somewhat brittle. Looked at the date on it. I was only two years old back then. I already have three of these towers so I built just the top half of it. I have some kind of plan for it rattling around somewhere in the dark recesses of the back of my mind.Well, it's time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a decaf please.
Spent most of the day cleaning and getting ready for opening day out at the Museum... We had a small but hard working crew there and got a lot done. We could have used several more days to really do what we wanted to do, but tomorrow we open for the season! Ended up the evening with a nice picnic supper for all who helped, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Potato Chips, Baked Beans, and Potato Salad. We are in the process of installing a display outside of old mile markers, whistle posts, and other railroad ROW signs. Cleaned the office area of the Depot and the waiting room, reinstalled several displays, and stored a bunch of other stuff.
I will need to out there for crew call by 10AM tomorrow. I will very likely be car host on Eire C-254. Oh, Jim, that was an old photo from back when she was working for the Erie (photo can be found on the "Fallen Flags" web site). Here is what she looked like back in 2009 during a night photo shoot at Midway (half way between the two museums):
She went in the shops from some major work two winters ago. She underwent new paint, new roof, and several other repairs. I thought I had a photo of her from last season, but evidently didn't get one. She looks pretty much like this photo at the web site now (also a nice history of her there too):

Vincent, one possible reason (other than "because I can") for bosses' behaviors can have to do with:
who's been there longer (than you) at the company (AKA 'seniority'),
(as Galaxy suggested), someone who has favor with the boss (or other person with influence/control at the company), and thus gets better/more hours of w**k,
the boss had a bad day (earlier that day, or the day/night before) with spouse/child(ren)/other employees (and those at the job the next day catch "it" as a result...
and many more.
As Galaxy said, sometimes you may not even know the 'why', and the challenge is "What do I want to do now? [regardless of the 'why'] So, like a lot others in the w**kforce, you get to choose how you want to respond... "Choose wisely, grasshopper."

Packer evening guys Work wore me out... again, another saturday at work because the manager making the schedule now won't let me have saturdays off (which means no train club). I don't understand why others can have specific days off (some for some really stupid stuff, most can get away with personal) but I can't have it off for my personal reasons because my dad told said boss why I want it off (for train club). It was fine before my father spilled the beans... Ken, IDK what to try to sell it for.

Vincent, welcome to the real world.
Employers have the power to make you do their bidding, and they have their favorites.
In an economy like ours, there are 50 people waiting to have your job, essentially, even if they "don't qualify for being over qualified". Employers know that and have the upper hand.
You best bet is to be the best employee you can be, and to become "invaluable" to the employer {or manager or owner or whoever holds the cards}. Then, and only then,. can you curry favors.
Employers can, and have, and do, get away with firing you over how you look, smell, weigh, smoke or drink or not, attitude whatever they want, for bing sick- even with Dr.s note, except in certian cities that have passed laws preventing that.
So, welcome, again, to the real world, where there is no such thing as "fair".
Smile, it makes it easier to bear....
JimRCGMOJeffrey, what's the billboard (left side, middle-way back) in your Knutzville photo? I recognize some of them, but that one has me guessing.
Evenin', Flo, I'll have a CAW mug of coffee and a hot fudge sundae, please. Thanks! I ate too much earlier today, so I'm just watering the cracks between the other food (and topping it with the ice cream & hot fudge)...
CN Charlie - yup, I'd say the coal shouldn't be 'across-the-layout' loud. Nope... Sounds like you had a good , too. Do you have any still photos (or a video) from your trip that you can post yet?
Jeffrey, what's the billboard (left side, middle-way back) in your Knutzville photo? I recognize some of them, but that one has me guessing.
Paul, it sounds like you & your family had a... full evening (and a yummy one)!
SP&S/BN Gary - you may want to insulate each rail, just in case. I know if you want to separate into blocks later for DCC (even though you may not care to go DCC later), you won't have much to do in the event that you change your mind. (But then again, I am NOT the wiring/electrical/DC/DCC guru... (That's mostly what I may have picked up from listening to the smarter Diners in here)
Galaxy, I think that THAT Kutztown missed their chance - they could've added an 'L' after the K...
Ken, it sounds like you've been kinda "charging your batteries" today.
Terry - are your (new) trees on that hill slightly to the left of the freight train, or right next to the train (between it and the highway)? Trying to figure where you mean.
This morning, I got together with some of the guys from our men's small group from church, for coffee and yakking. That was good; somewhat like visiting in the Diner (well, no train photos, though...). Then took my laundromat by to have the gal there do it (since it was later, and if I'm doing it late, it usually involves longer waits for washers and/or dryers). Then this afternoon when I picked it up, turned out they not only hung up all my shirts, but the person who did it put all my T-shirts on hangers (on those flimsy white wire hangers that aren't even good for trying to get into your car when you lock yourself out...) Also, went by and fed daughter & SIL's dog. Usually she (the dog) barks at me when I pull up, but will lick my fingers if I stick my fingers through the chain-link fence, then back away and bark some more. Today after I fed her, she didn't bark when I got back outside and was about to leave. Time they get back, I may have her much friendlier to me.
Well (toads are gonna get a bit warm there tomorrow), our weatherguessers say we will probably reach 90 F (32 C) tomorrow, and they're talking about that "Heat index" thingee again... Not sure I'm ready for summer weather just yet (and I bet the toads in the well feel likewise...).
Not much MRR stuff I got done today. I did win a RDC-1 on deBay that should be heading out for my direction soon, and I found a Roundhouse two-truck Shay at a good price (will need some fixin', so will need to contact my guy who did my other Shay). But tonight, I'm feeling kinda lazy - may zone out and take a nap in one of the back booths here, if Duke's not using it...
Blessings and prayers,
Evenin', Diners! 70f and the sun is finally peeking through. Rained most of the day.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Evening all -

AmanaMedic - Yes it was me who mentioned getting the new Walther's Fire Dept buildings. I have not gotten them yet, but they are on order.
Welcome to the newbies. Come on in, have a seat and and some if you're of age and drink. I'm John, but you can call me JP for short. Everyone else in here does, so why should you newbies be any different.
Nothing new on the train front. Ex got an apartment yesterday... she signs the lease Monday and then will start moving out of my house. I've done plenty of landscaping this past week, my own house included. I'm dreading going back to the real bill paying job on Monday. I know I'm gonna have 'fires' to put out plus a zillion emails! UGH!!! On a bright note, it's a short work week with next Friday off for Memorial Day Weekend. Gosh I can't believe it's upon us already.
Anyways, I'm off to eat dinner.
Take care!

Got a migraine today with teh weather being IFFY. Rest and relaxation is the order of the day for me.
Hi Fellas!
I'm working on the layout and looking through atlas' wiring book, do I place one insulated rail joiner on the positive track or do I place it on both? thanks.
Afternoon All,
Had a great time last night at my daughter's play. She did not have a big part, but was still fun. Other daughter was able to make the second half, then we all went to a nice bbq place. I had crab cakes and brisket. As usual with us we all shared and sampled each others food. Son-in-law got the bbq plate for TWO. The four of us had a good time trying to finish that. They took two containers home with the stuff we could not eat.
Got up late after getting home after 1 AM and started right in on redoing some track work. Waiting for adheasive for roadbed and track to dry, before doing more.
Just now getting hungry after all the food I consumed last night, so off to make something to eat.
Prayers to all in need.

Good Afternoon,
We are supposed to get rain here shortly but who knows as the weatherman has been saying that for the last 12 hours. With that forecast my wife and I have decided that we won't go anywhere today, just relax and likely watch more of our trip videos. We managed to get about 10 hours of taping which we find really brings back the memories of a trip. We first started taping our trips back in 1990 on a trip to France. Just watching those old 8mm tapes puts us right back into the time and place which I think is due to the sounds as much as the visual. Mind you its only been 3 weeks since we got back so I sure hope I haven't forgotten much or I'm in more trouble than I thought.
We had a great evening last night. We took the friends who looked after our house out to dinner. We went to 529 Wellington which is a really nice restaurant that specializes in beef. I had the roast version and it was fantastic.
To start off my day of doing nothing much I just watched a DVD I bought last weekend on Canadian steam that was shot largely in Winnipeg in the 1958. It was very good.
I did get the adddress and master volume programmed on my Pacific and now will fine tune the individual sounds. I don't think I should be hearing coal shoveling from across the layout but that is way with some of the novelty sounds. I turn such sounds down or off. The engine is a very good runner and just crawls at speed step 1 and that is without any adjustment and about 5 minutes of run time.
ONR fan, welcome. I've actually been to Millbrook a couple of times back in the mid '90s. I live in Winnipeg, by the way, and was there on business.
Well, time for lunch.

Part of my weekend has been devoted to applying these small labels to some of my locos. Here are two on a couple of rebuilt GP40's.Today I'll be applying them to some others. Those include a GP7, a C420, half a dozen FP7's, and an F7. I think that's all my eyes will be able to handle today.
Good Morning, Janie - I will have the #2 special, scrambled, with wheat toast, blackberry jam, and a Santa Fe mug of coffee, please. Thank you!
CB&Q Garry, thank you for the update on Gus. Certainly hope he's a fighter, with the stuff he's dealing with, due to that spider. But you'd better use caution with all those car photos - somebody might mistake you for a "used car salesman"...
Ken, sent you a PM (after your email). Hope your w**k front goes well today for you (and your customers).
JaBear, I'd almost forgotten my Australian from back in school, but like Ray, it came back to me okay.
Galaxy, I think for many of us Diners, the things Jeffrey (& maybe a couple others) eat would give us heartburn, etc. He has what my Dad used to refer to as a "cast iron" stomach. Good to hear you're getting the glasses in order, as well as that YOH got the second job. As you said, now to increase the hours (at the better-liked job)...
Ray, maybe it's because the w**k was already done on it, but that C-254 caboose looks in great shape. I bet that's a more recent photo, and not how it was when the museum got it, right?
Paul, hope the theater was very enjoyable for you (and that your daughter had a great performance).
Mr. B., congratulations to your daughter - I'm sure that a neuroscience major is NOT any easy major to complete! (Hopefully, her boyfriend will get motivated enough to find a paying job for himself...)
SP&S Gary, having a good photo of that SP&S loco is handy when you're trying to match the prototype, I'm sure.
Chris - on your editor's "conflict" vs. NOT making a comment to her: "Discretion is the better part of valor" was the quote that came to my mind. T'will be interesting for you to meet Sliced Bread (and see what the J schools are turning out nowadays...) next week. Please report back on what you learn/see/notice. As for your 'wavy' yard tracks, you may need to (only) "sorta" match the prototype (if you want your cars to stay on the tracks, anyway).
Karl, good to hear that your son know how to say "Thank you" to his father for all those years of support, housing, food, etc. that you gave him! Maybe over the duration of his internship, you can get some cars to go with the QJ?
I was wondering how JR has been doing, also. JR - whatcha been doing?
Speaking of Diners who haven't been in for a little, I guess Ulrich's been busy with the politic'ing (or resting up from all that). And there are a few other MIA Diners, who hopefully will poke their noses in the door to say Hi.
Johnboy, sorry we'll miss you on this trip, but I know you and your family will enjoy Branson - lots of good shows there, and Silver Dollar City is fun, also. Just let Garry &/or me know next time that you're gonna be back this direction.
Barry - on your "Lost Cause", maybe it's time to rent one of those haul-away dumpsters, or one of these (along with that hauler that Garry showed you)?:
ONR Dave - thanks for your introduction and description of your Plywood Central. (Mine is so far a PC also..) Good that you have some help for w**king on yours. Ah, and I see Galaxy covered our basic Diner caveats/rules.
I'm guessing, Galaxy, that when you mentioned "no food fights" in the Diner rules, that THAT didn't cover any of the occasional/rare Diner parties, nor any of the pie fights that (ahem, cough...) a certain Diner (whose name escapes me, but I think it starts with Barry...) has been alleged to participate in? Okay, glad it wasn't any of those! And no "chicken" talk, eh?
Todd - yup, it is a bit puzzling that the ladies do seem to want that "attention," and other paying... Anybody figure that one out yet? Nope?..
Last night I did some more painting on my "downtown" buildings (aka Merchants Row I). Still want to do some more, but here're a couple of progress pics for ya:
Both walls (the most visible once this is assembled and placed on the layout) look a little bit rough (and have some edges that need cleaning up), but I like the roughness of them still. Got to find a smaller brush...
Well (frogs are happier with the warmer temps in there today - up into the 80's F), I'll be finishing up my breakfast (brunch?). Want to run a couple of errands (dropping laundry off for them to do today, and need to go feed daughter and son-in-law's dog), and then may do a little reading or MRR stuff this afternoon. Hope everyone else can get in some quality MRR time today!
Good morning, DIners!
ONR Dave..... Good to see you in the Diner. We'll be interested as you make progress on the layout. Scenery will be fun when you get to it.
Todd ...... It's suposed to be "Early to bed and early to rise", and yes, I know what you mean about femakes and money.
Ken .... It's Saturday. You're off work you said. We'll be glad to see you.
Barry ...... A lost cause? ...... Here you go. Borrow this machine to get started ....
John Boy ..... Of course, I understand if your trip schedule is too busy. On our recent trip we failed to make several visits we wanted to do. Perhaps, next year you can visit. You would have missed seeing one of the three layouts here because my friend Gus is in the hospital. Speaking of Gus. I did get to talk with him very briefly on the phone last evening. Evidently, everything is stabilized. It will take a long period to grow back large amounts of skin. His heart is still not beating correctly, but hopefully that will improve soon. It is taking a long time for the poisen to go away. Would anyone like a 1948 Plymouth? Also, how do you like the styling on the truck trailer?

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes with real NYS Maple syrup... Huh? your out of it and only have the Vermont Maple syrup? That's OK, most of the Vermont stuff is actually from NYS anyway... Oh and I need some dark roast coffee for my R&GV RR mug please. Yes, leave the pot!
Partly cloudy around these parts this morning, although I don't see any partly at the moment... Currently 57°F with a high around 73°F later this afternoon.
A big "Welcome Aboard" to the new guy! Dave is it? I see you are Northwest of my location across Lake Ontario. I was just up visiting Ontario last April for the Niagara Frontier Region, NMRA Convention in Mississauga. Be sure to tell us a bit about what you model and remember we love photos!
I will be spending much of today out at the R&GV RR Museum helping to get everything ready for opening day tomorrow. Tomorrow i will be either riding aboard old Eire C-254 or the PC Caboose trying to keep everyone safe and making sure they enjoy the ride.
Gee, Todd, I got my self up before 8:30 this morning. Amazing what a new mattress can accomplish.
Catch you all this evening!
Good Morning!!!
Coffee and an order of flapjacks please. With that real Maple syrup from New Y…no wait, let’s try Vermont today.
Partly sunny, with a high near 81. Farmers happy it hasn’t rained as predicted. They’re really making progress on the planting. They won't be happy for long...give 'em time to find something.
Welp, once again I’ve not much to say other than boy I can’t believe I slept until 0830 this morn.
I’ll sum up my weekend in one word….yard w**k. Black Raspberries have returned and I gotta get rid of those as have the Blackberries around the AC unit. Luckily, my friend still wants more. “I’ll still take as many as you give me”. She’s wanting to fill in a large area with Black Raspberries. They have 8 acres give or take and a lot is woods so…she explained the area to which I nodded my head as if in agreement, but knew not where she spoke of. Luckily, with me, if later she finds out I don’t know, she thinks I can’t remember instead of the usual female accusation that I wasn’t paying attention. With any luck.
Notice how the things most import to a woman involve “paying”?
Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Hello all
Jim in Cape G. has reminded me to "announce" the rules for the diner to the "newbies". SO here goes:
The RULES are simple:
1} we can come here, the only place {thread} in the MR Forums, to talk about anything..even if not MRRing or trains related. talk about how your day was, events happening in your life, etc.
2} NO religious, political, ethnic, war/peace, product/company bashing or other "flame war topics". If it incites a "riot" or "food fight" in the diner, it can be closed down so everybody looses out! "PRAYERS" and "Thanks for service" IS allowed, but be respectful that others may not believe as you do.
3} NO FOUL {or fowl for that matter} LANGUAGE. We DO have children who read this site and thread, some post here, and so we keep it "G" rated and CLEAN. AS my mother used to say " you can find a better way to express yourself"
4} NO DIRTY/RISQUE jokes, pics, drawings, innuendos. Again, "G" rated and for children/families. If you wouldn't tell your mother or grandmother, or a 4 year old, don't tell it here! {even if you would and it's dirty, DON'T tell it here}.
5} you Can post pics, but our hosts, MR magazine themselves, ask us to not post more than one or two pics per posting {something about "bandwidth" or something}.
6} Due to maximum paging allowances, the diner gets "moved" at the end of every month to a new thread entirely. Look for the new next month's thread late the last night of the month or the first day of the new month. {If you see the last post says "THE DINER IS CLOSED" Look for the new thread for the new month, even if the mods have not yet locked THe old thread}
We are a good group and some very close online diner relationships, so JOIN US, and LURKERS: SPEAK UP!
that is about it. Simple, eh?
OOPS, I got TOPS again! {to the new guys; That means I 'buy" all the others on that page their meals/drinks at the diner with "virtual money" or "virtual credit/debit cards"! WHOEVER gets the top posting "buys" the diners their tabs".{please NOTE: no money changes hands!}}
ALSO- there are NO calories, NO fat, NO cholesterol, and the food always tastes just like you like it, so EAT UP!!!
JimRCGMO ONR Fan - to the Diner (but then again, maybe I was just out and MIA myself when you stopped by before), and have a beverage on me, please. Tell us/me a bit about your MRR layout/plans/ dreams (time era, scale, etc. - I take it you may be NOTB in Sunny Canada, eh? If you haven't been peeking in the window earlier (it's not unusual for people to peek in the windows before stopping in to say howdy), Galaxy can fill you in about the place. (Oh, and thanks for reminding me that it's about time to see about updating my glasses...) Blessings and prayers, Jim in Cape G.

Hi Jim, thanks for the welcome. My layout is based on the transition era and is a work in progress. It is 16 by 28 and is still a plywood central, lol. A couple friends, my son and I have been working on it for the last few months and it is really coming together quickly. The benchwork is done, most of the trackwork is done and the wiring. There is one section my buddy Dave isn't happy with so we are going to fix that up on Monday and then start doing some scenery. It's Digitrax DCC controlled. I do live in Canada, a small town named Millbrook in Ontario.
Dave
Good morning. It's 73° with 94% humidity. It'll be cloudy with a high of 88°.Last night I spent about an hour putting 'KEEP OFF!' labels on the three Bachmann GP40's. The Atlas GP40 was done over a year ago. I had to redo a couple of the labels because the water in the glue made the ink run. Overall they look pretty good. They must be effective as Ray Johnson isn't on any of the units this morning. Being the son of the towns owner he gets away with a lot. He's also the foreman of the Sundown shops, so he figures if he wants to take a ride on one of the locos then he's taking a ride. Who's gonna be stupid enough to tell him he can't?. The owner of the locos. That's who.Nothing going on today, that I know of that is. Who knows what other parties might have planned for my day? I figure it's a good day to watch TV and play with trains.
