 Evening Folks

 Flo, Beers, lots of Beers.

Work Front, all went well and made some money. Covers that.

Train Front is another story! Bang Head

1 GP 20 is to its dirty tricks, won't budge no matter what I do to it! Vince, where did you get the engine from? If you got it cheap off E-Bay I know why! Whistling

2 Proto Engines are starting to become a pain in my Cabooses! As much as I love Proto Engines there weak link seems to be how the power pick up is attached to the trucks side frames! I have now around 6 of them where one truck is not picking up power! Grumpy Guess on one of my days off I will be cleaning and soldering on the power pick up!

 Later, Ken

Chamomile tea, please.

***Terry, that is a great idea with the forced perspective and you really pulled it off there. 12" wide, never would have guessed that.

***Jeffrey, like that last pic you posted. If you could only camouflage the AC unit, it would be perfect.Smile, Wink & Grin

The tornado siren went off twice this evening. One time it (along with the Weather Alert radio warning) sent me into the basement when the sky turned seriously dark and the heavy blowing rain caused the pasture to all but disappear from view. Only lasted a minute and no damage that I could see. Will walk the farm tomorrow though, just to make sure.

Good night all.

Evening All. Todd a belated "Many Happy Returns" DrinksCake

Finally we've had some rain Storm, hooray!!!!!. For the first time in 30 years the entire North Island has been declared a "Drought Zone", so while you Northern Hemisphere Chaps seem to have had a particularly nasty winter, rain is very welcome here. Unfortunately not enough to be a "drought breaker", but we'll be thankful for small mercies.

Thoughts and Best Wishes to All that need them.

Cheers, the Bear.

Jeff, I guess I did. to be honest I was surprised just how much stuff was in the box.

Vince, there's stupid drivers all over in Wa. they ride your bumper so close that they try to hop in the backseat. that or they don't know how to read a speed limit sign or operate their turn signals.

boy, I'm about ready to just stop being too nice to people I feel like I've just been spat or walked on too many times.

Gary, try driving in Lower Michigan.  I’m doing 70 in a 35 and get flipped off and honked at for driving too slow and that’s on a good day….

Happy belated birthday Todd!

Rob, if it’s “the” Hudson Lionel put out for the adult collectors it’s still worth a good penny.  I had the chance to buy an American Flyer 2-8-8-4 years ago for $1000.00.  They were a display item for hobby shops and never sold to the general public.  I’m not even sure it ran I think it was display only but I kick myself for not buying it when I had the chance….

I made a big hit with Dorothy.  I bought her 2 pair of embroidery scissors at the train show from the small tool guy; you know the ones with the swan handles I think all of our grandmother’s owned a pair….

Good Morning!!!

Just coffee please, thanks.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes. Had a pretty good day even though I never made it into the trainroom or get a napSigh. Noooo guys, didn’t have Chinese foodLaugh, wanted too, but I figured, hey it's the 51st anniversary of my birth, why ruin the wifes dayWhistling Wink Laugh. We went to Texas Roadhouse and it was pretty good this time. Had a gift card and a coupon for free appetizer and we both ate like pigs. Two steak dinners, mine with a side of ribs, two potatoes, she had vegetable too, two salads, two appetizers and four beers (two each which is really odd for me....and her, to have moren one out like that) for.... $13. And yes, I paid for it too as per tradition. Hey, at least there were no straphangers this year. Yes Flo, I tipped on the whole bill and a bit over as well because he was a good waiter. He really was. I was impressed. Oh he didn’t wash my face for me like I'm used to, but I did watch him follow up the busboy and wipe the steak sauce bottle openings off and the light above the tables. He also knew just how to word offering all those extra little add ons to your meal that Brenda and I usually say no to, but this time she was all like..."okBig Smile". Me when he was done with her said, "you got a car back there you gonna try and sell her next?" He laughed and said maybe.

Tom- Sorry to hear about your friend.

Terry- I agree with Jeff. I never noticed anything odd about the cars until you mentioned it and even then, with the picture you posted, I looked and finally I noticed the meats on the back of that Monte Carlo (or so it looks like) is the only give away and who’s to say it’s not some guys “street machine” out for a Sunday drive. Great job with the modeling as usual.

Rob- I kinda like that AC unit of Jeff’s. That unit (or I should say the old one) was part of what helped break the ice for me to step into the forums here. I think I’d miss it if it were gone.

Driving? If you were to drive around Springfield for two days, just two days, you’d find yourself hating mankind. Literaly despising them and all they represent. You'd find yourself reduced to the bitter man I've become. Nervous at the slightest unexpected move. Almost like shell shock. It’s ever man for himself, and God help he who pauses to be considerate. Speed “limit” means speed “minimum”. There’s an m and an I in there common to each so…..see? Each person thinks they're a better driver than Junior Johnson, and's on a mission to prove it while on the phone. Right turn on red IF the intersection is clear, now gets interpreted as, right turn on red has right of way regardless. And furthermore, if you are the second vehicle behind said right turner, you are required to blow your horn several times starting from before the last vehicle clearing the intersection has entered the intersection, until the vehicle in front of you making the right turn has executed the turn and exited the intersection and you have began to pass said car in a huff. I don't know what the guy behind him's doin. Every one’s in a hurry to get….no where and must be the first one there. Only place I’ve seen a multi lane stop light look more like a drag race, engines reving, each one inching towards the light just a touch with each passing second, was in Italy. FIVE wide ina three lane road. Light turns green BAM Jack! Guy three cars back is laying on his horn for the mess to go get out of his way before the red light even goes completely out and the green light lit. Off they go to the next stop light to start it all over again.

I guess if they televised this stuff and made a reality show, we’d all be sitting back in our easy chairs drinking coffee and eatin oreos shakin our heads thinkin….this is so fake. Nobody drives like that….they’d die.Where’s the cops? Oh there they are, pulled the guy over for no turn signal. WHY? They don’t use em anyway…..fake.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning. It's 50° with 89% humidity. The high will be 75°.

It'll be nice enough today but looks like we might get some rain tonight. Well today I'll attempt once again to get more of the layout cleaned up. But I know that just as sure as I have both hands full of stuff the  fucockamamy phone is gonna ring. If it isn't my father it'll probably be some loan company wanting me to take a loan with them or a pizza place advertising their newest sale or some other worthless crap. At least I got about six hours of sleep. I'm still a bit tired but I don't feel worn out like I did last night.

Hey! Somebody has a lot of faith in their VW Samba but somehow I don't think this is gonna work out!

Morning guys

Jeff, That VW with the airstream reminds me of this video:

watch?v=QsPnwi0nb2Q

Ken, It might be the harness itself in that one. If I recall correctly, one of the pins broke loose on it. I pulled it out, re-soldered a wire to it, then glued it back in place. It worked fine when it was here, but the glue may have broken loose in shipping. I only did that because I had gotten it all soldered together then the one wire broke. Like I said before, I prefer to mill the frames on those, and use decoders like the digitrax DH163A0, NCE DA-SR, or the TCS A4X. If you want I can put together one of the other chassis on my bench (P2K GP7, 9, 18, and 20s are pretty much identical) and use a new harness then send it to you. Then you could send the GP20's chassis back.

I saw plenty of silly stuff like that when I was in Germany in the 70's. There was no shortage of laughs and dropped jaws.

Did you get the PM i sent you Saturday? I hadn't received an answer so I was just wondering.

Here in Pennsylvania, drivers seem to mind themselves, but there is that one who just seems to think that they own the road..........................

Good morning.

2 hour delay today. But honestly, I think that a full out cancelation would have been a better idea. While the roads are clear, they are still very sloppy. We also just had a mess of wet and heavy snow fall no more than an hour ago. Hopefully everyone makes it in safely.

Are you talking about the pin that is in the socket that the decoder plugs into? If so, was it one of the pins for the motor? If it was that would explain why it headlight works great and just won't move.

Before I go to work, going to mess with the trains.

Have two hired hands here today, felling trees, building fences, taking apart the last sections of tin & rafters from where the tornado deposited them a couple years ago. Making progress! Will eventually have them in the train room just long enough to give me a hand with removing the last of the N shelf layout.

Lee .... I know what you mean. It's mostly near Detroit where they do that. Western part of MI (Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Battle Creek, etc.) are more normal.

Here in KY, everybody is friendly and drivers of on-coming cars typically give a friendly wave.

Then I go back to Detroit area, and the other drivers wave with only one finger.

I still remark about the last visit. All the Detroit freeway lights were not working because copper thieves steel transformers and other electrical equipment. Mkaes nigh driving in Detroit very dangerous.

I guess idiot drivers are a universal curse.  The stupid stunts they pull makes my blood pressure rise.  I've seen everything mentioned so far and more.  Then there's the idiots who drive like it's summer in the dead of winter with deep snow and ice all over the roads.  And with smooth summer tires to boot.  Wrecking their car or sliding off the road doesn't seem to deter them.  As for traffic laws, what's that, something to eat?  Years ago when my wife was working, I would pick her up late in the evening.  It was a 10 minute trip each way.  One time I counted the number of traffic infractions I observed in that 20 minutes, things which would get you a ticket.  I counted almost 20, and I'm sure I missed more than I saw.  The two biggest things in the city where I live are:  1) the number on the speed limit sign is the minimum speed.  Travel at the speed limit and everyone passes you and cuts you off to teach you a lesson.  It is rumoured that the police won't issue a ticket until you're 10 kph over the speed limit, so everyone drives in a 50 kph zone as if the limit were 59 kph.  2) There are only two colours of traffic lights--red and green.  That amber one in the middle is actually a green light.  Here, one is well advised to wait a few seconds after the light turns green before starting up.  I believe the law is that you won't get ticketed unless you cross the stop line after the light turns red so everyone takes advantage of that.

Okay, don't throw me out of the diner, I'm putting away my soap box.

Afternoon guys

Been busy re-installing horns on the SD45 and F45 that had them robbed... Also I decided to fix the light bulbs in my genesis GP15-1s. That was a pain. Because the cab interior has to be removed from the top, I had to take the cab off. To take the cab off, the nose has to come off. Well after about 20 minutes of fiddling I got it off... While I had the cab off, I drilled the hole for the beacon deeper so the bulb for it was in the beacon instead of below. I tried the two crew figures I have (one's a metal one, and the other is a spare from an unfinished P2K project, but they both were too large and would have interfered with getting the cab back on. I also don't know if all 3 seats would be filled... Anyways, pull the one bad bulb out, then try to get another one back in... Went okay until I had to put the thing back together. I had to do a bunch of filling to get the cab, nose, and whatever box is behind the cab on the engineer's side (most -2s have these) back together nicely. Got it all back together, then realize I wired the bulbs wrong. Take the shell off and re-arrange the bulb wires, then one of the top radiator sceens pops off Angry... But I got it back together and like the change to the beacon's brightness.

I did discover a few things though. Loctite flexible ahdesive works wonders for gluing the bulbs and screens in. Best part is it dries super clear.

Ken, I think it was either the black or grey wirethat I had to do that too... Maybe wiggle the wire around and once it works, glue it in it's place on the socket. Like I said, my offer still stands.

Jeff, Is that van that's pulling the airstream like the one you have?

It's similar. The model is of a 1975 B100 1/2 ton Sportsman (Planet Toys mislabeled it as a D100 which was a pickup). Mine is a 1981 B250 3/4 ton Ram van (Successor of the Sportsman).
