Evening All,

Had tube steak for supper and just finished a cup of coffee so Flo nothing for me.

Went grocery shopping with MOH at Wally World and believe it or not no waiting at the register at 2 PM. I was shocked.

Phil sent me a bunch of Pennsy photos yesterday and they are now in my collection. Thanks PhilBig Smile

I agree with Galaxy about the  Living Will but also in some states like  FL you also need a DNR order if you do not want to be resuscitated if the worst happens. Just something to think about.

Garry- Very nice modeling scene in WPF.

Ray- I think the "Mountain" looks great. It actually reminds me of a RR cut that I would  visit as a child when visiting relatives in Western PA.

Galaxy- Prayers for your MIL and FIL.

Stan- That dilapidated building in WPF looks incredible.Bow

Barry- I continue to say prayers for you.

Ulrich- I am also saying prayers for you.

Ken- I hope your toe is doing better. Diabetes is a devastating disease in the long term if not closely managed.

Hope everyone has a good night and  prayers for those in need.

Well I had to watch over my mother from about noon til 8pm today. It involved quite a lot of walking around getting this and doing that. My ankle is definitely letting me know about it! And now my father tells me he needs me to do it again in the morning! I told him that depends on how I feel in the morning. If I'm not feeling up to it I'm not doing it. He wasn't real happy with that but it's my body, not his.

Well it's time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow, maybe.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf for me right now.

I had to put some air in the tires of my old hand cart to use it tomorrow when we clean out the Scout Office here in town.  The building is in the process of being sold as is the one in Rochester.  The Council is trying to either build or find a new building half way between Rochester and Geneva.  The Order of the Arrow is doin g the moving and storing of items.  Since I am Vigil Honor and have a truck....  Well, you know, Cheerful Service.  (At least Arrowmen know.)  Anyway I turned on the compresser opened up the air line, and felt a lot of air rushing out.  Couldn't blow up the tires either.  Then I noticed the hose was broken in two.  So I took the ari hose over to the Auto Parts Store hoping they might have a replacement as the hose has seen better days... Nope!  So I came back home after buying new windshield wipers for the Yaris I needed anyway and repaired the old hose.

I was filling the tires finally when I heard a horn blow and a car drove in my driveway.  It is the adviser for the Venture Crew stopping by on his way home from work to pick up the paperwork for rechartering.  He was one of my students from way back, and with him was another student from back then.  This guy is now a part time professional musician...  He started Guitar as a freshman in High School and he said it was all my fault.  I was his favorite teacher in Middle School....  I always love to hear people talk like that...Smile, Wink & Grin  Makes me feel like I did some things right!  Yacking with him used up an hour or so of time, and then I got back to loading the hand truck into the pick up and cleaning up down cellar in the work room.  The last test and inspection of all the solar equipment will be Tuesday and I will be away all day tomorrow and Sunday. I think they will want to see a clean area down by the equipment!

Jeffrey, when my Mother had to come to my house to stay for a few days when we had an ice storm knock out the power for a few days, she would call to me, I would run into the living room and ask her what she needs.  She would say, Oh, nothing, I just wanted to know where you were!"  She did that every 10 minutes or so because she forgot she had just talked to me....

Prayers for all in need!

Good Evening...

Well, our weather up here was definitely not boring..if you wanted variation we had it..every ten minutes ago it would change. Literally. We had some sun, some cloud, nasty winds, not so nasty breezes, no wind at all, cold, warm, rain, snow, sleet...even hail. Oh..and a thunderin'boomer showed up as well to add a bit of spice to the mix...ConfusedWhistlingLaugh

Morning Coffee in the Diner...

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Saturday, November 3rd, 2012!!!

November -- the nineth month

Middle English Novembre Latin November Latin Novembris mensis"nineth month"

Novembris had 30 days, until Numa when it had 29 days, until Julius when it became 30 days long.

*grumble* you can't teach and old dog new tricks!, SO:

Meaning: Old dogs (and people) learn less well than the young

Origin:

This must be one of the oldest proverbial sayings in the language. There are many early citations of it (in Heywood, 1546 etc.) and many of those refer to it as an 'old saying'. The earliest example of it in print is in John Fitzherbert's The boke of husbandry, 1534:

.'..and he [a shepherd] muste teche his dogge to barke whan he wolde haue hym, to ronne whan he wold haue hym, and to leue ronning whan he wolde haue hym; or els he is not a cunninge shepeherd. The dogge must lerne it, whan he is a whelpe, or els it will not be: for it is harde to make an olde dogge to stoupe.'

By 'stoop', Fitzherbert meant 'put its nose to the ground to find a scent', as was the meaning of the verb in the 16th century

{Isn't reading Old English Fun? Next time you can't spell something in English, think about the fact that it may have had extra letters centuries ago!}

Howdeee!

Home again, at least for the weekend! I have to report back on Monday, but there are good chances I will not stay there much longer.

Remember the respiratory problems I had some weeks ago? This was caused by an accumulation of fluids in my lung. The docs drained about a quart out of both wings and breathing improved immediately. Over the last fays, thee was no more of that stuff in my lung, so the treatment with antibiotics of the atomic bomb kind must have worked. All this was caused by the infection I had three weeks ago. Not a pleasant feeling, slowly drowning in your own bodily fluids.

Petra brought my notebook with her on Tuesday, but I was unable to connect to the WiFi in the hospital. I used the endless time to finalize my plans for my next layout, re-checking all the dimensions of the structures, only to find out they were all wrong. I had to redraw all of them, using the dimensions of windows and doors I plan to use. More of that a little later.

Zoe, I´d like to have a mug of sweetened black tea and a cinnamon roll, please.

I am sad to hear about the many casualties Sandy caused, my prayers go out to their families and friends. We have bad storms in our region as well, but damage and losses seem to be a lot less. Maybe this can be attributed to the different way we built our houses - a lot sturdier, to last a thousand years, but also a lot more expensive.

I am happy to see many new faces having joined the Diner - a big welcome from the other end of the Big Pond to you, folks. Have a beverage of your choice on me!

Back to may layout plans. I had a lot of time in the hospital, so I redrew every building in that plan. Now I have a set of scale drawings, which will help me to actually scratch-build them. As soon as that hospital thing is out of my way, I will place my first (small) order of detail parts and start to build the first one. Fools rush in, so I will start with probably the most difficult one, the community hall in the center of the following picture. Still no idea how to build that thatched roof, but I will try different techniques to see what looks best.

Here is my latest and final drawing:

... and a "night shot" with inverted colors, showing more detail:

The layout will also have a new name. The German coastal region is known for its bad weather, so the layout will have an appropriate name. Schietwedderooge expresses that in the local dialect, translating into "foul weather island".

It´ll be some time before I can show something presentable here, but I am really looking forward to building this layout.

Blessings to all in need!

Have a good one!

Good Morning All:

3 years ago I turned over my medical file to the VA for their review.  In 2 weeks I have my first physical for disability determination.

Building inspector stopped by to look at the hole in my front yard from the Water Department’s “repair”.  I wonder if he noticed the guy building the attached garage out of used pallets and blue tarps on Naumann behind me???

Ulrich, that’s a load off your chest I’m sure.  I’m glad the Doc found what was going on and was able to help you out.

Today I’m going to try and repair the siding on the garage and drop more dirt into the hole out front.

Good morning. It's 63° with 100% humidity and dense fog. It'll be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain. The high will be 82°.

Sore and stiff this morning. Fog is heavy enough that we're under a dense fog advisory until 9am. My father wants me to watch over my mother this morning and I have to tell you I'm not looking forward to it. He says there's not much moving or walking around associated with it. Horse feathers!! I didn't get much sleep last night plus I had a sugar crash on top of that. When it rains it pours! I also have to get the second half of my grocery shopping done. That might have to wait a day or two. I don't expect to get any layout work done today. In fact the way things are going so far I don't expect to get ANY layout related work done this weekend period.

I can but hope that old Mr Murphy is through with me for a while. They say the bad things happen in three's. Van battery went bad after only two months, water heater busted, electric service pole busted and fell down. That seems like three.

Galaxy, that is a reminder that I didn't need - - - LOL.

I get up too early as it is.

After 6 months of adjustment from last November's time change, I had hoped to wake up at 5 AM rather than 4 AM when the clock was turned forward in the Spring.

No such luck.  My cat continued to wake me up at 4 AM.

That means I will be waking up at 3 AM tomorrow. Ugh.

Just woke up from a short nap. In fact, too short. A bunch of kids " on the loose" were shouting outside like mad. Now, When I was young, our parents kept us inside and would not allow us to go around shouting during midday.

O  tempora, o mores!

We changed our clocks backwards already last weekend, but I still have a hard time to adjust my body to that change. While I like the sun to rise at about seven in the morning, turning on the light at 4.30 pm is not my cup of tea. There will another two hours of those values until Dec. 21st - Sigh

Edit: I see my post count is still gone. What happened to those 5,100 + posts I had before?

Good Morning All,

45F and you can see the clouds just booking across the sky. No rain yet so no complaints. I'm in the shop waiting for the Magnaflux to warm up so I can get a load of crack testing done. Winter rebuilds have commenced though the season is not over yet. I leave for Daytona Monday evening just before our next storm. Hope we get off easy with that as the trees are already distressed and the ground is pretty soaked. Wish we could send some of that rain down to Paul in Tx or other drought affected areas.

Though we got off easy with Sandy, we still have employees with no power at home especially the two living in New York state where they're being told the end of next week at a minimum. No matter what the cause, with the weather getting more severe, we're going to need to rethink some of the things we've traditionally done and the wisdom of having so many people so close to water. The tracks behind my old shop in Ossining, NY are well above the water level of the Hudson, but there was a pic in the paper of a large boat on the tracks ! The yard at Croton Harmon was under water as well, all from storm surge going up the river during the storm.

Well, time to get after it. Good to se Ulrich back in this morning and feeling better. Our prayers for those in need and on the mend.     CUL, J.R.

richhotrain- our time for getting up is MOH's 3 am to get to work by 6:30 AM. Afer Sunday, we will be getting up at 2 AM ourselves {I already am and cannot sleep in as I COULD sleep til 4 Am, but once waking up at 2 AM..I can't...now I will be up at 1 AM on Monday.!!!

ULRICH- You devil! Wondering about you. I had pneumonia 3.5 years ago and had a LOT of fluid in the lungs, so I know what it is like, and Being severely asthmatic, I can appreciate ANY breathing problems and feeling of "not being able to breathe". I sometimes have to go get on the {nighttime} O2 Machine When I don't feel like i am getting enough air.     OH...The MIL is in the hospital {ok, just to give FIL a break while he heals himself}, AND she said "thank you" to me in English and I said "your welcome" {familiar} to her in German. She looked at me and said {in English} "what did you say?". I repeated it. She again asked me in English  "what DID you say?", SO I repeated it, thinking maybe I had it wrong. Then she said {in English} "WHAT DId YOU SAY?" a third time {By now I am hoping I haven't slaughtered it into a swear or dirty word!!!} ANd I repeated once more...she said "GOOD!!". She then said "it's about time you learned German being around us". She said "you need to learn more". I said hold on- I know all of about 5 words and of course, ALL the words to "Oh, Tannenbaum". She laughed hysterically at that...as she knows i know that {and I have to sing it to her in my croaking voice EVERY Christmas !!!}. They say I "have no accent" at least not for that word. SO now I told her I know 6 German WOrds!

Speaking of MIL and FIL...FIL will be at the hospital now, I will go send him home at about 11 until MOH leaves about 4 so he will have a 5 hour break from MIL and CAN take a MUCH NEEDED nap and EAT SOMEHTING. THAT is why he passed out and fell yesterday they think..is exhaustion, and not eating right. Oh, and he fell at the hospital not at home like I thought,.,, they are still there. {at least MIL is}. I will INSIST he go home. I made MIL laugh all day yesterday,s o mabe I can today, as well.

Jeffrey- Good luck with your mother. I had to take care of my mother form a nasty disease all while growing up and after at times. She would want something and I'd ask anything else, she'd say no, and I'd JUST get to my BR on another floor of the house and she'd be screaming for me again! I know the Mil is a Waiter-on-er too, but not as bad as My Mother was...YET. I HOPE I am never that way.

Well, I'd best get on with chores if I am to go to the hospital today!

Have a great day y'all!

Good morning, Diners.  Coffee, please, Chloe.

Today we help a friend with an operating session.  Mr's have a morning session and afternoon session on 2 different layouts.  Last year I met some very experienced operators.  It was super fun, and I learned a lot.

Morning All,

Not much planned for the day. I have some errands to run this morning then I will go to the club later.

I think that I have officially completed my layout. All the projects that I wanted to do are done. I will tell you it sure feels strange to me. Now I have a couple of train related projects to do that I have been putting off until I was done on the layout. I have 2 small cast aluminum  repros of Pennsy whistle and bell signs that need painted and  I have a  single light (amber) with hood that came out of a PRR PL light at Cresson. It works but is in rough shape so that needs rehabbed.

Barry- Sounds like what happens with FL weather.

Sue- Have fun today.

Ulrich- Glad to see you back. On your drawing does the whole fiddle yard slide from side to side? I was curious because the middle track does not appear to connect to anything.

Good morning.

JR ... Glad to hear the big storm did not affect you as much as it did others.

Ulrich .... I hope you will get better. You did not say the cause of the fluid in your lungs. In my case with fluid on the lungs, it is heart failure which is controlled by medication and other treatments.

Thanks to Curt, Stan, and others who commented on my photo in WPF
