Howdeee!

Home again, at least for the weekend! I have to report back on Monday, but there are good chances I will not stay there much longer.

Remember the respiratory problems I had some weeks ago? This was caused by an accumulation of fluids in my lung. The docs drained about a quart out of both wings and breathing improved immediately. Over the last fays, thee was no more of that stuff in my lung, so the treatment with antibiotics of the atomic bomb kind must have worked. All this was caused by the infection I had three weeks ago. Not a pleasant feeling, slowly drowning in your own bodily fluids.

Petra brought my notebook with her on Tuesday, but I was unable to connect to the WiFi in the hospital. I used the endless time to finalize my plans for my next layout, re-checking all the dimensions of the structures, only to find out they were all wrong. I had to redraw all of them, using the dimensions of windows and doors I plan to use. More of that a little later.

Zoe, I´d like to have a mug of sweetened black tea and a cinnamon roll, please.

I am sad to hear about the many casualties Sandy caused, my prayers go out to their families and friends. We have bad storms in our region as well, but damage and losses seem to be a lot less. Maybe this can be attributed to the different way we built our houses - a lot sturdier, to last a thousand years, but also a lot more expensive.

I am happy to see many new faces having joined the Diner - a big welcome from the other end of the Big Pond to you, folks. Have a beverage of your choice on me!

Back to may layout plans. I had a lot of time in the hospital, so I redrew every building in that plan. Now I have a set of scale drawings, which will help me to actually scratch-build them. As soon as that hospital thing is out of my way, I will place my first (small) order of detail parts and start to build the first one. Fools rush in, so I will start with probably the most difficult one, the community hall in the center of the following picture. Still no idea how to build that thatched roof, but I will try different techniques to see what looks best.

Here is my latest and final drawing:

... and a "night shot" with inverted colors, showing more detail:

The layout will also have a new name. The German coastal region is known for its bad weather, so the layout will have an appropriate name. Schietwedderooge expresses that in the local dialect, translating into "foul weather island".

It´ll be some time before I can show something presentable here, but I am really looking forward to building this layout.

Blessings to all in need!

Have a good one!
