yep, saturday, not ready for work but I will probably be thinking about many of the conspiracy theories that my co worker and I discussed while we were working. and a couple more days to go until Halo 4 so the trains may get a red light for a little whille.

good luck to those who are in need of it.

Well the nurse showed up today so I don't have to watch over my mother. I instead went to town and my grocery shopping done. Here's a photo I took the last time I was at my parents home. This is in a second story loft in the great room. The monkey's name is King George and he's on his throne. No offense to our friends in the UK.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, just a decaf for me.  Had lunch with the crew over at the old Scout Office.

I complained they were going to put a bunch of old computers and other electronic junk out in the dumpster and started reminding some leaders about the "Outdoor Code" of the Boy Scouts.  So....  The back of my pick up truck is loaded with old electronic items to go down to the recycling center here in town next week (I hope!).  Since nothing in my truck needed to be hauled to camp, the Field Director (former Camp Director) told me don't drive out to camp.  Just go home, we have plenty of people to handle everything being unloaded and stored and that I will be hauling items to the recycling center for them anyway.  Good thing I didn't head out to camp as I pulled into my driveway here at home, and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor!  Hmmmm.  I will have to check to see if the front or rear brakes are affected and if I still have any brakes left.  I am less than a half mile from the repair shop, but .........

Ulrich!  good to see you are back here....  Hope you get the infection gone ASAP!  Glad to hear you are on the mend.  We worry about you, my friend!

There have been w few whitish flakes coming down during the morning from time to time alternating with drizzly wet stuff.  I think I shall light the wood stove and then head down to the trains for a bit!

 Evening Dinners!

 Flo, Beer Pleases!

Did my running and not much more. Went to pick up my med's at K-Mart, the my VA PA as yet to send in the scrip for my second Blood Presser med! It has been 3 weeks now! Bang Head Two weeks ago while I was at the VA Hospital the PA there (I like her) saw the notes in my PA file about the second blood presser med, she sent my PA a E-Mail about calling in the prescription, still nothing? SoapBox

Curt do you think you are really done? Laugh No, you just need time to think about! While I really do like what you have done with the layout, it is in Pensively right? (boy I hopped I spelled that right) It just looks to flat to me and there has to be a better way to plant your trees.

My idea would be to cut out some of the flat sections, make drop drown section, add 2 inch foam so you can sculpt some ravines, then add some small hills as well. Pleases, don't think I am criticizing your layout at all! I be tickled to run some trains on it! Just trying to give you something to think about!

While I was picking up my med's today at K-Mart I picked up a new CFL light for over my desk. I had three of them, 2 100 watts and 1 40 watt equivalent CFL and it was pretty dinghy. This one is equivalent to a 150 watt bulb, it took a while to warm up, but the light is much better now! I am sure I paid to much for it at $15.49 but did not fell like running to Wally World to save 3 to 4 dollars!

Has anyone here tried the new LED bulbs? I would like too, but the prices of $32.00 for one 100 watt LED bulb sure stopped that!

Jeffery, was that Elvis sitting on the front of the engine you posted earlier?

Having Chile tonight! Dinner so I will see you all later!

 Shaddy says Woof! Wink

By the way, the wall is not nasty looking in person, just in the picture?

Right!!!! I looked at them too and shook my head and said "Self, better wait a couple of years till the price comes down". And then wonder of wonders, I walked away which is really something for me who seems to always be getting sucked into "Leading Edge" stuff. I used to be waaayyy worse about those things but age seems to be making me somewhat smarter about impulse buying. Age and that thing called living off a pension.

We have a lamp that is on all day and night long. MOH likes to have it on so as to never come into a dark house, regardelss what time of day it is and even if cloudy/overcast.. It's bulb is burning low {as in occasional flickering} and so I went to get a LED light bulb. At $32 I thought better of it, but since it burns form about 3 am when we get up til 8-8:30, maybe 9 when we go to bed, I thought maybe worth it.

The problem I have is all our CFLs are all  "daylight spectrum" bulbs as I am a sufferer of Seasonal Affective Disorder {SAD} which is another form of depression, so they provide "daylight" for me even during the time when it gets dark at 4 pm and stays dark til 7:30 Am.

THE LED bulb won't be that, and the full daylight spectrum bulbs also allow for the plants under that light to grow!

So I put it back. but I know it will save us money. And last 22 years?

ALSO< we have had for years two strings of Xmas lights lining a long dark hallway in our house. The Xmas lights were stapled up at the ceiling and provided good lights. WHen we got the first blue-whilte LED sets 2 or 3 years ago o replace the olds ones, we didn't put them up right away, and just did about 2 weeks ago as the Xmas lights finally all burned out. THE blue-white LEDS have a "strobe effect" to them with motion going down the hall!!!

So THAT is a featre I DON"T look forward to if the regular LED "bulbs" do so too! The globe over it seems to be coated so it will look like white light......

We WILL be forced into  them eventually, but I think, except that lamp we can wait for them to be cheaper-if they ever do get cheaper.

Hello guys, and Sue

KEN, I Took the plunge a while back and bought 20 of the led lights for my layout room. They are 4 watt (dim able) They are on a track system. I had to hire an electrician to install the whole set up. They are not cheap but they are sure nice.  My layout is in my attic and the lights are a couple feet above my head so I was concerned about heat. They don't seem to put out much at all and according to the packaging they should out live me? I don't know how to post pictures but I can take a picture with my phone and email it to myself and forward it to another address if you would like to see the set up let me know. thanks!

Oh yes, I know exactly what you are talking about when you mention Seasonal Affectional Disorder. I have a portable SAD light that I use pretty much all winter for a half hour a day. I sure helps me because I certainly don't need any more depressing issues given that I've been on anti depressants for 18 years since finally being diagnosed as suffering from Clinical Depression. I hate the darned anti depressants because of their side effects but it's better than living with the depression I can assure you.

Anyway, the SAD Sadlight works really well and BTW is a special LED daylight spectrum and runs on next to nothing for power including batteries.

Evening All,

Back from the club. Had Pizza andCoffee for supper.

Tomorrow I plan on painting the aluminum signs and possibly start on the PL lamp.

Ken- No issues. I am actually considering a major change on the end of the layout coming out  of the tunnel but it will affect the yard and access to the TT/RH area. It will be a major change so I really need to seriously think about it. Also if I knew what I know now 2 years ago I would of  changed the basic construction of the layout but that is water under the bridge now.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Today has been a little longer than usual. I've already set my clocks back an hour for DST. Today I took care of a plumbing problem that had been nearly driving me nuts. The drain line from the kitchen sink went to a drainage stack embedded in the wall between the kitchen and bathroom. No matter what I did I couldn't stop the kitchen connection to the stack leaking. Well today I disconnected that line and plugged it off at the stack. I reran the kitchen drain pipe, drilled an inch and a quarter hole in the floor under the cabinet and ran the pipe down through the hole and routed a pipe outside to a patch of grass beside the trailer. It's just clear sink water and there's nothing harmful in it. The only soap I use is completely biodegradable. When I get some more pipe I'll route it out to the magnolia tree in my yard. I did the same thing with an RV I lived in before I bought this trailer. The water from the kitchen and shower supplied water for the garden I had then. The water from my kitchen is much cleaner than that flowing into the ditches from the drain lines of my neighbors washing machines and dish washers. I'm sure the magnolia tree will love having a supply of water. It's dry up here on the hill.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

HELLO GEORGIANS!

Welcome to Coffee in the Diner!

GOOD MORNING!!!

Sometimes some say things like "now way, Jose" {especially a certian younger crowd}, so:

Meaning: Absolutely not; never

Origin:

This slang expression originated in America sometime around the 1960s. In Chapman and Kipfer's Dictionary of American Slang 'no way' is listed as a 1960s phrase and 'no way Jose' as originating in Village Voice. Unfortunately, they don't present any other details so I can't check that assertion. The first verified citation I've found is from The Washington Post, December 1979:

"I've got nothing against robots. But no way, Jose, is this guy going to win."

Why Jose? There's no reason to think that Jose was an actual person. The name was probably chosen for the rhyme with 'no way', which predates the longer phrase.

Have a GREAT Day!

Morning Folks, what Time  is it anyway?

Flo, it is time for Coffee

Man, I really did get up early! I forgot about the time change when I got up this morning! My watch said it was 4:38 AM, so I guess it really was 3:38 AM? The time change still confuses my wife, then she gets me confused! (after all that is her job) I had to check for the time on the internet just to make sure what time it was.

Growing up in Ind we did not have time changes, when I moved out here the first one threw me for a loop! I had just moved out here and I was a Area Supervisor. My mangers where to be at work at 7:15 AM to get there shop ready for opening. I was at the shop at 7:15, no manager? May he was stuck in traffic. 7:30 rolls by, no manger and no crew? Started to worry a little. Started calling my other shops, no one in any of my shops? Man had a Ick! sick feeling in my stomach. Had everyone quite on me? That was not going to go over well now would it! Bang Head At 8:15 (well by my watch) the manager walks in. "Where have you been, it is 8:15" I asked! Looked at me like I was silly and pointed out the time changed last night! He then had to explain what a time change was to me. Laugh

Galaxy sounds like I have SAD as well! I hate overcast days and I get depressed as well. Till I got into trains I use to keep the garage well lite. Now I just keep the area where my desk sits well lite. Layout I like darker so the headlights show up better.

I don't know how to post pictures

Thayne, it really is easy. First go here to open a account.

 http://beta.photobucket.com/register

Then up load the pictures you want to post.

When you see the picture you want to post, left click and then copy the IMG Code (on my version it is the bottom selection) then paste here on the site. If done right, no reason to insert (chain thing at the top) and the picture will appear when after you post. Pretty easy!

See you all later after work!

Good morning. It's 63° with 95% humidity. There's a fair chance of showers and thunderstorms today. The high will be 78°.

It's raining here in the wettest of the continental United States. I hear both rain and thunder. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across inland southeast Texas and central Louisiana. I have no idea what I'll be doing today. I may be able to get some of the layout cleaned up. That's been neglected pretty much this past month. But then that's usual. I'll work on it and play with it for a while then I'll leave it alone or flat out ignore it for a while. There's been no further progress on the grain elevator scratch build. Well, these storms are getting closer and are sounding really nasty. Time to go.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, just a dark roast coffee to go...

Gotta get on the road to the Museum.  Last day of operations for the year.  Not sure what i will be assigned to do yet.  Guess I'll find out when I get there.

The sun is peeking through every now and then this morning but the temp is all of 34°F outside.  I'll be wearing the Winter coat!

Stay warm and safe!

Morning All,

Sitting here drinking a cup of coffee thinking about the layout.

After posting last night I did some measuring and my original idea for widening the turn out of the mountain won't work. There is just not enough length for the height I would need. What would work is continuing the curve into the closest yard track effectively making it part of the main. I already have #6 turnouts on the other end so that is OK.

The part that I really don't like is that I would have to move the 2 PL signals that are there and they were difficult for me to get right the first time. Well I have  time to think about it since this won't happen until next year.

Sue- Don't all our animals have a tough  life?

Hope everyone has a good day and prayers for those in need.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast Buffet.

Missy's not up with the time change yet. I know an extra hour, but this dog is set in her ways and any change just wears her out by golly. Changed her brush to the Furminator.....slept for 2 days.

Woke up this morning to a good heavy frost. Didn’t look at the forecast though. The frost was all I needed to see.

Ken- Huh? Get the “Daylight” CFL’s. They are bright. Yes they are a bit more than regulars, but not much. They sure ain’t no $32! Unless you buy like….20 of em. Which, if you add up the years a CFL theoretically lasts and how many you theoretically would have to buy and add the cost up…., factor in the energy savings for the bulb, you would find the daylight bulbs themselves over 22 years, again providing they last the 5 years (of course assuming the LED lasts the 22 as well, I have had LED’s on semi trailer lights go out within a year or two), and depending on your area’s cost for said bulbs, you would be into your 5th bulb and the cost to you would be anywhere from say maybe $6 to oh, maybe $10 at current prices…. over 22 years. Now the energy savings may be good, but it ain’t THAT good I doubt that one LED will save you even close to a dollar a year over a CFL. If it does and I have to wait 22 years to see a difference…..ain’t worth the trouble. Specially if the LED goes out earlier and they can and do. Then you’d never realize the savings if any. Besides, like G said, the light is bright. I remember when CFL’s came out they were so expensive, now, huh, not any more.

Went and seen Doogie Houser.... or was it Randy...something. He sings that "goin out with my boots on" song. Friends drug me and Brenda in Springfield to this bar where he was playing last night. Not bad. $20 for a pretty good time. He ain't no Waylon Jennings, but he was good.

Shower is grouted and hope to get started on the door today. Remember the door? the thing that started it all? Well if it don't fit now I tell you what, it's going to Habitat and a shower curtain is being bought. I KNOW that'll fit.

Oh casually dropped it to Brenda in conversation that the grout has to dry/cure a week before shower can be used. Good thing she wasn't eating, she'd have choked.  Laugh

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning .....

Looks like Missy and Pearl have joined us this morning. (Shaddy yesterday) I bet they are great companions and good to have at home.

Speaking of dogs, look in this older photo, and you may see my junk yard dog (Dawg).

Perhaps others have dogs in their layouts to show us.

Ulrich .... Unfortunately, a bad infection like the one you are describing can do further damage to a diseased heart.  Prayers for you.

I'll have coffee to go. ..... We're on the road again. Michigan this time. If Duke is looking in, sorry it another fast trip and can't meet up this time. (Duke and I have met in MI a few times. If he awakens in the corner booth, he could tell you about it, but don't count on that happening.) ... I won't be here much for  few days.

As jerry would say ..... Have a good one. ..... (I hope he visits the Diner again soon.)
