Did I miss something, Are your parents giving up their beloved house, or is it another house you are talking about?

You apparently missed something. My parents sold their house to a close relative. My parents have a lifetime lease on the east wing. The relatives will be rebuilding the west wing to suit their taste, meaning the 60's era pine paneling is going bye-bye. All the wiring (pre-1974 code) will be brought up to code, walls (including interior) will be fully insulated and sheet rocked, the two full baths will be turned into one large bathroom. All the appliances will be ditched and replaced with new. The west wings central air/heat will be completely replaced. The heat pump was last changed out in the mid 80's. The system in the attic is a 60's era Chrysler. The water heater is an antique from the early 80's and spends much of the time turned OFF as my father is afraid it could pop. The west wing was built in the mid 60's as a Ranch style home. My father and I converted it to a suburban style in the early to mid 70's. Good use of the first half of my teen years (12 - 15). T'wasn't easy! Construction on the newer east wing didn't start until the late 90's and was pretty much completed in 2004. We're still chasing down a few isolated bugs here and there but nothing out of the ordinary unless you count the screwdriver that was left in the central vacuum line. That was my father's screw-up.

You know we got a huge new deal without cable company and there are some 250-300 channels..and nothing we either: want to watch, haven't seen before, is  a new theme on a subject we have already knowledge of, or anything to entertain us! Remeinds me of the old song "...57 channels and nothing on.."

Out here with Dish - 101 to 9608 and nothing is on. Got some GREAT Sirius satellite radio channels though! Classic rock from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's are my favorite. I record them on cassette tapes and listen to them in my van when I go to town for some reason. I have a small battery powered cassette recorder to listen to them on but it's all I can afford. I'd love to find a halfway descent in-dash or under-dash AM-FM-Cassette stereo and some good speakers to put in there but that's something that will probably never happen. That takes money and that's something I don't have to spare. A kid flipping burgers at McDonald's for minimum wage makes twice what I have to live on for a month. That's pathetic but it's true!

TA462

I worked all weekend which kind of sucked but it was easy OT.  Got the Trans Am stored for the winter yesterday, that kind of sucked too.  Put the winter tires on the Cobalt, my little commuter car for going back and forth to work.  Cleaned out the garage at the house so the wife can fit her Jeep in it, she is going to store it as well.  Changed the oil in my truck, the wifes new daily driver and listed my S10 and her Alero on Kijjiji for sale.  I don't need them anymore.   Busy weekend.

I found a 72 VW Super Beetle in incredible condition that I might buy.   I've owned a Beetle years ago and had a lot of fun with it.  Being a muscle car guy it is a drastic change, lol.   A guy contacted me about restoring a 69 Camaro Pace car but hur pain. I pute wants it done in a year.   I could probably do it if I worked on it for 8 hours a day, 7 days a week but that isn't going to happen.  Told him I could do it in two and for him to think about it.  Also recommended a couple other places he might try.  People honestly don't know how much work and time it takes to actually restore a car, properly.  I'm on afternoons this week so its going to be good to sleep in for the next two weeks.   Smile, Wink & Grin

I feel your pain Crying I put my Trans AM to bed last Monday.

Ken, did you here about way back in 1972 the famous Classical Saxophone player  Sigurd Raschér was going to perform on live TV (PBS) a concert with the Philadelphia String Quartet?  Everything was set to go, the concert had been well publicized and it was estimated that 7 million people would be tuning in for the "one of a kind" concert.  Unfortunately, a group of concerned parents petitioned the TV station against the broadcast and the concert was cancelled just a few days before it was to air....  Yep!  They said there was already too much  (are you ready?)  Sax and Violins on TV!

(Gulps rest of coffee quickly and heads out the door!)

Later!

Thunk, Hey Ray, was that a C thunk? Or a C Minor?

Well, it is my own fault. I said I wanted to work some day shifts.

A case of be careful what you wish for?

Boy you got that right Jeffery! Seems I was drafted today! Bang Head Seems I have to work at St Charles the rest of the week and I have to be there at 6:45 AM Tuesday! That means I have to be up and moving around 5:15 AM, it is only a hour drive? Bang Head Will be there the rest of the week with no set hours. I do plan on milking the overtime!

Ken, Life-Like/PK 1000’s had an issue for 2 years where the wheels were defective on their locomotives and rolling stock.  Somehow the wheels were cracking and causing the wheels to go out of gauge and squeal or constantly derail.  When LL was bought out by Walther’s they stopped replacing the 1000’s wheel issues.  One of the members of my train club bought a bunch of PK 1000’s and has been slowly changing all the wheels out with Intermountain replacement wheels.  It’s sometimes hard to see the cracks but if you spray them with developer you can see them.

Lee, great tip! Mine has a huge chunk missing from a rear wheel on the outside edge! Never equated that to causing the random squeaking Any idea on a part number?

Now my P2K SD7, not likely i'll let that one go. It's been custom painted and detailed for BN. What's wrong with your SD7? I've had my SD7 and 2 SD9s apart a few times so I know what makes them tick. I'd like to find other P2K SD7/9s (or BLIs or RPP shells and chassis) to build up a few more for BN. If you decide to off-load that SD7, I could work it in a trade.

Vince Well at this point I don't really have a clue.Well I sort of do? First time around I thought the old motor died to being driven hard and but up wet so to speak. Was drawing way to many amps and BBQ 2 decoders. Happened to have a fresh PK 2 SD 7 motor (well it was used) and tested the motor and amp pull was fine. Installed the motor and amp pull shoot threw the roof! Thinking it was the gearing in the engine, pulled the drive shafts and tested again!  Amps where still way to high? Bang Head Forget the specks off hand, but not decoder friendly! So now it sits on the mountain (whee on my junk goes) waiting for a answer to what the real problem was.

Paul. Thanks for the answer and Barbara will be in my Angel Yes that she is doing better. I use to have a Barb but things did not work out for us. Yes, we where Barbie and Ken! Sure got some snickers when we had our Christmas Stockings made. Whistling

See you all later, 5:15 is going to becoming sooner that I am ready! Sigh

Well time for my once-weekly post. Got a new (to me) ATV, was a aunts, 8 years old and only had 659 miles/ 174.8 hours... Lot of medical problems, father has neck surgery on wed. , grandfather got run over by a cow yesterday, was stupidly trying to load them by himself, was pretty banged up, had to have 5 stitches on his neck, while being examined found a mis-alignment in his vertebrae, awaiting word on that though.

Toto...follow the yellow Brick Road to:

Morning coffee in the Diner

GOOD MORNING!!!

Quid Pro Quo is often heard, SO:

Meaning: Something given in return for a item of equivalent value - like tit for tat.

Origin:

A Latin term meaning 'something for something' or 'this for that'. The idea is more commonly expressed in English as 'one good turn deserves another'. This has been in the language since at least 1654, as here in H. L'Estrange's The Reign of King Charles:

"One good turn deserves another."

'Quid pro quo' is in use in colloquial English but is also a legal concept in the area of trade or exchange of goods or services. A contract is said to be binding if it is quid pro quo, i.e. if it involves an exchange of goods or services for something of comparable value, usually money.

It is often used to describe corrupt practise, where favours (notably political or sexual favours) are illicitly given in exchange for cash. I.e. 'you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours'.

The 'turn' link with 'quid pro quo' was played on by the scriptwriters of the 1991 thriller movie 'The Silence of the Lambs', starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins as Clarice Starling and Dr. Hannibal Lecter:

Hannibal Lecter: Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center. Sounds charming. Clarice Starling: That's only part of the island. There's a very, very nice beach. Terns nest there. There's beautiful... Hannibal Lecter: Terns? If I help you, Clarice, it will be "turns" for us too. I tell you things, you tell me things. Not about this case, though. About yourself. Quid pro quo. Yes or no?

Just joining for a moment. The respiratory problems continue and I have a doctor´s appointment this afternoon. I am not really keen to go there, as I think I might end up in hospital again. So this is where I will be, should you not hear from me for a while.

Ulrich- I know all to well about breathing problems. I have 3 machines {nebulizer, O2 generator and CPAP} to help and 3 inhalers {1 emergency, 2 steroidal} to help me breathe. On days like today when the air will be heavy with moisture {expecting 70% chance of Storm  Umbrella  and the exhaust fumes of cars/trucks will permeate the air {it gets trapped in by the clouds and rain}  will cause breathing to be severely hampered.

I see in some other threads   people  complain about those of who complain about infirmities or life's little foibles here in the diner, but it totally mystifies me as to WHY they read this thread if they don't like it. complain all you like Ulrich, as some of us can commiserate with you. They can complain too, if they like, or perhaps they have yet to experience aches and pains.

Rain is coming down now and expected to get nasty as the day wears on. My knee told me yesterday rain was coming. Hope we don't loose power!

The prayer candle will not be lit until afternoon as we will be gone all AM to the health care seminar. BUT, there are still special thoughts for those in need like you Ulrich,a nd the others in the diner who need them..Angel

Good morning. It's 63° with 100% humidity. It'll be partly cloudy with a high of 85°.

Hopefully today I can get a chance to clean up to clean up the layout a bit and put my kitchen back together a little. I'd like to at least put a front on the cabinet even if it's just luan board. I had planned on working on the layout yesterday and ended up getting Shanghaied into working on things I really didn't want to work on.

Good Morning all,

64F, Hi today 70F, Low 59F

We had a killing frost last week so with the temps in the 70s it’s officially Indian summer here (the period when First Nations/Native American peoples harvested their crops)

Ken, I can ask, what are you putting it in?  Normally the wheels have hairline cracks on the backsides of the wheels or they separate in the middle.

Vince, any idea what would cause a short on a fairly new PK1 E7A?

Jeff, I enjoyed my DISH TV but the equipment broke and when I called there was a long silence on the line when the customer service guy said the equipment was mine and it was up to me to fix it, even though I was renting the box.  I explained that I wasn’t going to pay for something I wasn’t receiving. Still silence, I felt he didn’t care if I was able to watch TV or not as long as I mailed in my monthly payment.  When I took my equipment to the UPS drop off facility there was 40 Dish TV return boxes already on the conveyer belt.  I switched to U-Verse; unlimited home phone long distance, 15 Mbs internet down 1.5 Mbs up,  and it was 2 dollars cheaper a month.

That sounds pretty good. Don't have anything like that here. There's Suddenlink cable, Dish Network and Direct TV. So basically we have one that has high rates and few channels, ones a joke and the other is have it our way or no way. Take your pick.

Good Morning!!!

If a man speaks in a forest and there is no woman around to hear him…., is he still wrong?Hmm

The weather is there. Or here. There is no sun, but yet there is. It’s wet but not raining. Maybe it will, maybe it won’t

Looks like bleach it will be. Usually a good rinsing or if that doesn’t work, cleaner, does the trick. Not this time.

 Paul- Glad the wife’s better.

Jeffrey- I’m wanting to say glad your Mother is home, but you have yet to say if she should be home. Maybe it’s too soon to tell?

Heard my wife talking in the bedroom last night before going to sleep. She said, “Dear Lord, I pray for the wisdom to understand my husband, the love to forgive him and the patience for his actions. Because, Lord, if I pray for strength…, I’ll just beat him to death.”

Gotta Go!!!!

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning, all.  Ham and cheese omelet, toast and coffee sound real good right about now.  Rain and 65 degrees here, supposed to hit 83 this afternoon....in October?  Cardinals finished the season last night by rolling over and playing dead.  Sigh

Good day at work yesterday.  Made the weekly run to DeSoto, MO, to do FCC tests on our sister radio station located there and, on my return, got to record a "one-liner" for use in a promotion spot on the air.  Radio is fun!

However, that job is only part-time, so it's back to job hunting today.  Got a nibble on something on Sunday that I have to pursue today.  There's a house project brewing that will need some attention and some synthesizer programming to do for next Sunday in the worship band.

I'd better go be productive.  Carry on.

Jeff, it’s not bad, internet is nice and fast, the TV box came with a free DVR that will record 4 TV shows at once and you can still watch TV. I’m not a big TV person but there are a few shows I like to watch and I can record them and watch them when I get around to it. I have to police Dorothy; she has filled a DVR before. She saves everything, even shows she has watched and doesn’t plan to watch again. If it wasn’t for me the house would look like an episode from hoarders and the DVR would be filled…. Curt, I had combined billing for IPhone, basic home phone without long distance, Internet DSL 1.5Mbs up, and Dish Everything package (2-TVs). When I switched to: IPhone, Home Phone with unlimited Long distance, Internet Fiber Optic, and U-Verse everything (3-TVs) I saved $2/month. The IPhone service didn’t change, but the Internet went from pretty good to my emails having little burn marks on the edges because it uploaded so fast, and my TV’s have wireless boxes on them instead of a RF remote and an IR remote. If your employer has a AT$T account AT&T will give you a discount on your bill and you get another discount for bundling at least 3 services together and if you go paperless you get a green discount.. Jeff, I feel your pain, when I moved in here you could get Adelphia cable or put an antenna on your house. Service was so bad and so expensive I pulled the plug and used rabbit ears and DVD’s for 3 years. We listened to the radio a lot….

Mornin'.......

Zoe, need a big mug of coffee to start with...  I'll be looking over the specials to see what else you might bring me while you do that.  Thanks.

"It's another rainy day, just a rainy, rainy day....." Dark, gray, gloomy, cold, and wet around the Finger Lakes today.  And, I have another stye forming on my left eyelid....  Yuck!  One of the cats got sick on the rug last night.  Just love cleaning up hairballs...  So far, not a great day here in the Finger Lakes.

Bill, I see you are yet another musician in here.  My joke yesterday about Sigurd Raschér was around way back when I was a Student and a friend of his daughter Carina Raschér, also a great Saxophonist.  She was teaching at Eastman during my Freshman year and I had met her at a summer music camp.  She was also a fine guitarist and was the first person whom I sang with using the guitar for accompaniment...  I took up classical guitar soon after graduating and used it for classroom singing during my entire career.  So... What keyboard(s) are you using?

John, beautiful dog you have there!

Ken, how do you get a trumpet player to play fff?  Mark his music mp.

Prayer go out to Ulrich, Galaxy, and Barry for the moment...

Best get doing some of the many items needing to get done around here.

Later!

Morning all, sorry so many you are under the weather. Me, well aside from a hip that isn't working real well and diddo for a shoulder, things are good.

Part of the aches & pains are due to the following:

Snow continues over most of Southern Alberta this morning. A trough of low pressure moving northeastward across Southern Saskatchewan will continue to generate snow over most of Southern Alberta today with event totals of 10 to 20 cm expected by this afternoon.

So.... I intend to pretty much stay inside, work on my other computer, and perhaps finish putting in the last of the insulation in the Sun room. Nothing like 6 inches of snow on the ground and a high wind with a 20F temp to get a person going !!!

I took up classic guitar soon after graduating and used for classroom singing during my entire career.  So... What keyboard(s) are you using?

Thanks for your interesting reply.  My main 'board is an elderly Ensoniq SD1 synth workstation.  I use it primarily for organs (B-3 and cathedral), strings, cello and neutral analog pads.  I also have an Alesis Ion virtual analog synth that comes to church with me sometimes.  The home studio also includes Roland JV1080 and E-Mu Vintage Keys rack-mount MIDI modules.

Where in the Finger Lakes are you?  I grew up in New Jersey and had relatives in Penn Yan.  I haven't been there for over 30 years and I miss that part of the world very much.

Hi Bill,

I live about 20 minutes North of Penn Yan (You might be from Upstate4 NY if you measure distance by time...) in Geneva.

I used to have mostly Yamaha and Roland keyboards.  They would be considered stone age now although I still have my old Roland keyboard controller that hooks to a rack mount synth via MIDI.  I really need to get out the axe and get some stuff back in my fingers...

Spent a small fortune on it (Cordoba) and so far it has mostly just sat in the case...  Somehow being deaf has its drawbacks.

Later!

I've been to Geneva a few times....both NY and Switzerland (if the airport counts).

Very nice guitar.  Stone age is good.  Most of my gear (with the exception of the Ion) is early to mid-1990's vintage.  Built like tanks and sound just fine in a live situation.

In Texas we shut off cable and watched VHS tapes and used rabbit ears.  We listened to the radio a lot.
